So I am currently DMing a desert game in which the players are all level 1. The game has gone on so far for about a week, 1 day in game time and the only thing I have rolled so far is scorpions for them to face. Which while not a bad thing, they will eventually get tired of fighting them, and are thinking about walking aorund them again in this battle as they are not worth the effort of angering whatever spoke to them the day before from beneath the sands.

It is a Female werescorpion drow Vermin lord that spoke to them, but they are not aware of that. This character is a neutral party at the moment and has taken into possession a key item due to a player dropping it in the game but they don't know they dropped it yet.

So basically any help I could reciever making an encounter table for level 1 characters that they would only find in the desert would be a great help. Nothing more powerful then CR 5 though please.

Set environment to Desert and Max CR to 5. It'll give you a nice list. There might also be one in Sandstorm.

A flock of rabid vultures might also be fun to fight. Or an "ooze" type creature made of living sand.

The encounter table in Sandstorm includes Camel (Dromedary, Two-humped, or War), Porcupine Cactus, and Ash Rat, among other fascinating creatures. Truly the wastes teem with life, if you know where to look.
