I just read through the deity section in the Player's Handbook, and noticed that all of the suggested domains are there for the Cleric to choose from... Except the death domain. Is it possible the Dungeon Master's Guide has additional archetypes? Or that they left it open for homebrew or additional splatbooks later on?

What are your thoughts on this, people of the playground?

Oathbreaker paladins are also there, but I'm not sure if they're treated as an archetype or a penalty for breaking your oath.

Where are you getting this info?

From the paladin chapter in the player's handbook.

From the paladin chapter in the player's handbook.

Can't believe I missed that.

Can't believe I missed that.

We've actually known about it for quite some time - as long as we've known all of the classes and subclasses that were in the PHB.

Yeah death domain is in the dmg. Sounds pretty cool.

as in, we knew well before the phb even came out. i don't remember the original source, though.

Either word of mouth or twitter. I don't think there were any forum topics with leaks or any interviews about it.

There may not be deities listed because most of the gods of death are evil, but kelemvore is one of the few ones that is acceptable for a player to have.

Sometimes WotC asks what we'd like to see previewed from the next book to be released.

I say we push for oathbreaker/death domain info!

Death Domain and Oathbreaker Paladin's will be in the DMG. Not sure why, as Players could use info for both, and heck the Necromancer is in the PHB, so why not those two?

Anyhow, DD will follow the standard cleric subclass/domain progression. Not sure about Oathbreaker Paladin though, since a Paladin could be an Oathbreaker at any level. Does he loose the subclass abilities he had before, retroactively, or keep them? In any case, Paladin's have a huge amount of flexibility in ethics this time around. It's stressed in the PHB that the Paladin may loose his abilities if he does something really against his Oath. I like it. More freedom for players.

Some other things said to be in the DMG:

-Spell point casting instead of slot based for all casters. I suppose it will be somewhat similar to what the Sorcerer can already do.
-Optional combat rules, such as flanking!
-Magic items

Given the lackluster reception of the Eldritch Knight, maybe we will see a proper Gish class/subclass in the DMG. I would like a Battlemage class for the Wizard, like the EK is for the Fighter. And a Magery Tradition for the Wizard for Universal specialists...or maybe an Archmage Tradition.

I can't imagine that being any more than an oversight, although the cynic in me is inclined to say they're holding out on the death domain for future splats, because necromancy never goes out of style. I can't imagine them outright ommiting the domain from the new version.

It appears they haven't, a small sidebar in the cleric chapter of the Player's Handbook mentions it's in the DMG as was pointed out in this thread.
