Can you, dear playgrounders, help me think of some monsters that are naturally resistant or immune to Sonic energy?
Thanks in advance.

Anarchic creatures have sonic resistance 5. That's all I got off the top of my head - it's not a common resistance.

Storm Elementals (MM3), Rukanyr (FF) and Song (Monsters of Faerun), Emerald (MM2), Pyroclastic (Dra), Howling (Dra) and Battle (Dra) Dragons.

Slaadi are immune to it. Destrachans have a weird pseudo-resistance (no straight reduction in damage taken, but they get a +4 to saves against it).

Slaadi (MM) and sonic creatures (Advanced Bestiary) are both immune to sonic damage.

The Knell Beetle (MM III) is immune to Sonic damage and heals 1 point of damage for every 5 points of Sonic damage it would have taken.

It appears that the ironmaw from the fiend folio has sonic resistance 10.

That sounds like an extremely odd monster. A beetle that eats sound.

Thanks everyone! I'm impressed that you were able to come up with so many for such a rare resistance.

It has a giant horn on its head.

No, not that kind of horn.

Yep, THAT kind of horn.

Dr. Robotnik is immune to Sonic, though his machines (and machinations) aren't. How many times has he been defeated, and yet he hasn't been actually imprisoned or even injured once?

I believe that the yrthak has a resistance or immunity.

One of my favorite critters, the Fiend Folio's Steel Predator, is immune to Sonic.
Its also badass.

Any thing with the Incorporeal Subtype has a flat 50% chance to ignore Sonic damage, assuming it's magical — otherwise it's immune.

Valkyries, from Tome of Battle, have a decent suite of immunities, including sonic.

Zodar from Fiend Folio is immune to sonic (just like to almost everything else)

I believe that the yrthak has a resistance or immunity. No. Actually, yrthak has a vulnerability to sonic

I always thought it would make sense that the Song dragons would be immune or resistant to sonic, but they're just immune to electricity and poison for some reason.

I might be remembering worong, but I think the Chronotytryn from the Fiend Folio is immune.

Yep, THAT kind of horn.

It was one of the first monsters I ever used in my own campaigns. It's hilarious!
