Elephant Priests

[Inevitability]

This is just a really, really silly idea of mine, but I was wondering what the playground'd think of it:

If you are starting a game with maximum starting wealth, a cleric gains 200 GP. This is enough to buy an elephant. However, where would you go from there? Which spells, domains, races and backgrounds would make this unusual build playable?

I myself am thinking of a buff-focused variant human cleric with the nature domain who picked up some more druid spells through Magical Initiate. Background would be Hermit or Acolyte.

I think I'd have to go for an elephant knight. War cleric grabbing a lance ASAP and charging/trampling enemies. Probably go with the variant noble background.

Alternatively I'd try to make one of those wizards from Heroes of Might & Magic 5. Something like knowledge domain, using summons as much as possible and grabbing the sage background.

Another thing that'd be fun: Be a variant human with the Dual Wielder feat. Once you have some money, buy two lances. Next, take that fighting style that boosts TWF'ing. Enjoy your 2d12+8 DPR.

Elephants are cool. They don't have a set price but 200gp seems absurdly cheap for one. They're huge and expensive to raise. I couldn't see one selling less than for ~500gp, assuming you're living next to a natural elephant habitat and there is a booming trade in elephants that keeps supplies high.

While I agree with the sentiment of your post, PHB does indeed list elephants at 200gp (pg 157).
