View Full Version : Psionic Healing

My long-time group just switched to 3.5 for a change of pace. I decided to play a Psion (Shaper) since I've never gotten the chance to play psionics.

Kalashtar Psion
Ogre Fighter
Pixie Rogue
Elf Fighter (Archer)
Human WIZ 3 / Cleric 3 / True Necro 2

The Rogue has a Wand of Cure Light (and maybe one of Cure Moderate, but I'm not sure). No one else has healing. (The Cleric spontaneously converts to Inflict.) I've been trying to find a way to contribute healing through psionics, but am not having a lot of luck.

The DM ruled that Use Psionic Device and UMD are NOT the same, so I can't just get some wands. I do, however, have max ranks in UPD and a high CHA, so can use psionic stones and dorjes, even for powers not on my list.

The only trick I've found for healing is Empathic Transfer, followed by Body Adjustment. Is there something else I am missing?

Mend Wounds (Complete Psionic) has a decent PP to HP ratio, or you can play a Sangehirn (http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20040625c).

You could hire a multiclassed Ardent (with the Magic Mantle) or Psychic Warrior (Mantled Warrior ACF, Magic Mantle)/Druid or Cleric to put Lesser Vigor on a Dorje or Powerstone.

Everyone should buy a Belt of Healing from MIC and the group should put the funds together for a few wands of cure light or wands of lesser vigor for the cleric to use on people outside of combat. You shouldn't need more than that.

Psionic repair damage works well if you're a warforged, particularly since you can share both it and vigor with your psicrystal, then link your hp pools with share pain.

Fleshies don't have many options beyond what's already been mentioned, unless you can switch to a Dreamscarred Press class (Society Mind (http://dsp-d20-srd.wikidot.com/society-mind) or Worldthought Medic (http://dsp-d20-srd.wikidot.com/worldthought-medic), also known as Tactician (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/psionics-unleashed/classes/tactician) and Vitalist (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/psionics-unleashed/classes/vitalist) in PF).

This.

If you want to "heal" in combat, the best way to do it is by preventing your allies from being damaged in the first place.

Mend Wounds (Complete Psionic) has a decent PP to HP ratio,

It's a 6th level power, which means the UPD to use it as a power stone would be 31. My UPD is 15, which means I'd have to roll a 16 to use it. The roll to use a dorje is a flat 20, but that would be an 49,500 gp item. Since we're already way over WBL, I can't see the DM giving me an item worth that much.

 I don't want to be a dedicated healer. I'm just looking for a way to heal the party.

The DM is really inexperienced. If I went to her with either of those ideas, she'd look at me like I walked off Mars and say no. And we're in the middle of a dungeon (and will be for a while), so no hirlings. (She is letting us ask for what we want as drops.)

I didn't say anything about in- or out-of-combat healing. As it stands, we have almost no healing at all, since the only items we have is/are the wand(s) the Rogue has (which won't last long if he doesn't actually have a CMW wand).

I'm looking for something I can use, not drop on another player and tell them to use. (I don't think the Cleric's player will object to using wands, but I don't want to tell him he has to.)

I can add Healing Belts when I write-up my wish list.

I'm not really sure why this would be an issue. For out-of-combat healing, with no meaningful limitation on actions, the question of who actually uses the wands is functionally irrelevant as long as someone can.

Yeah, this. If the potential objection comes from the Cleric not wanting to pay for the wands, then you're looking at it wrong, since items that benefit the whole party (of which healing wands are probably the #1 example) can and should be paid for by everyone.

If your GM lets you retrain, you can ask if you can use the True Healer (http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20070314a) ACF to get access to the Life mantle, which has some nice healing powers. EDIT: My bad, for some reason I read "shaper" as "egoist." Ignore that part. Wands are still a good option, as are healing belts.
