Has anyone successfully used a binding spell before?

Our group is going up against the BBEGS and were planning tactics. This looks promising, but somewhat impractical.

While the main caster casts the spell, supporters casting dominate monster pump the spell's caster level (by 1/3 of their CLASS) to get through SR and to decrease the chance the target gets a saving throw.

Our DM likes that kind of teamwork, which is a plus.

But how does the different casting times of the spells work? Main spell takes a minute. But assistants' spells are standard action. Do all spells take a minute, or can assistants just cast their spells at some point during that minute?

How do you get the BBEGS to stick around for a whole minute, while your main casters are busy with this? I doubt our meat shields would last long enough to keep him busy and in range for a whole minute, while all casters do this. He'd be toasting those casters and messing with their casting, I fear.

Can you cast and hold a spell like this, so you can release the spell as an ambush when BBEG arrives?
