Two hundred ships set sail with the lost Quill explorers with orders of their own. They were to see the sailors home safe and then seek guidance to each and every country they could reach by water. Each captain bore a missive destined to the highest authority he or she could reach. And so it was that redwood ships with leather sails and scaled motifs scoured the ocean wide for many months.

To all the Lords and Ladies abreast the shores, you are invited to the Hundred Seas Conference on the island of Novrania, as the guests of King Corvus Caine. All delegates are guaranteed safe passage from any and all Novranian citizens. Please rely upon this letter bearer to guide or provide passage for a delegation to Novrania.

Signed,
King Corvus Caine

--- 457, Late Spring ---

Upon their return, those long sailing captains came home to find thousands and thousands of ships at sea, awaiting their arrival. Clear lanes of travel prevented any possible venture into the Shark's Teeth, or anywhere else but Dordestone's extensive harbor. For all the ships in the sea, the harbor was clear of any traffic, clearly prepared for clean sailing and zero accidents.

Acting as liaison and guides, each captain has also been charged with escorting their delegation throughout the city for the duration of their stay. Accompanying him or her are two soldiers as well, for added security.

The city itself is one immense boardwalk, dotted with thousands of wooden homes, often covered in moss and lichen. Some stonework can be found, but it's truly rare. The wooden streets are filled to bursting with Novranian citizens, eager to catch a glimpse of the exotic delegates. The massive hordes of people would be worrisome, but there are also hundreds of soldiers always within view. Their red vests stand out starkly against the paler colors of the common folk. Each seems armed with a serrated spear and a stone-headed club. Despite their armaments, it is easy to see that most of these soldiers are newly drafted men and women and are often caught staring at the delegates themselves.

Each delegation is to be escorted first and foremost to a private suite prepared ahead of time inside the King's Fort, as it was now called. The rooms are not extravagant, but comfortable. They were in fact larger than most Captain's Cabins, clearly a measure Novranians held as a high standard. Amenities and food are available to each delegation upon request.

Those that decide it is time to meet their host are lead through the central hall into a circular room. At the fair end is a black, stone throne on a raised step. Sitting in the throne is a young man of thirty-two with a short black beard, dark hair, and tanned skin. He wears a crown of pale driftwood, polished to a near glow, studded with blue coral. His clothing only differs from the citizenry in the fact that it is of darker and richer colors, and the sword hanging from his belt. Behind him stand two large men, one with graying hair and a bent back, the other bald but bearing a ferocious black beard. The seem to be bodyguards or advisers, depending on the situation.

The rest of the room is inhabited with elder captains and scriveners, intent to learn as much as they can of the outside world. Each of them sit on benches that line the walls, broken up by the well placed brazier. There is a door on either side of the throne, leading off deeper into the Fort. All in all, the room feels a bit crowded, but everyone seems to be taking their roles very seriously.

Some notes for OOC:
-Feel free to describe your own escort Captain, but please remember that these are responsible, proud, and solemn people... who have volunteered to meet new nations with zero idea of what to expect. So they may be very individualistic. Refer to People (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showsinglepost.php?p=18175750&postcount=44) for physical descriptions. Men and women are equal and elders earn extra respect for surviving on the sea at such an age. Please, no hooligans.
-Novranians are a primarily sea based people and such aspects are to be reflected in the city (Translation: Yes, there are taverns).
-Your delegation will not see the queen or the child, as they have been put to sea for the duration of the Conference.
-Let's pull a trick from DoomHat and roll d100's to determine who arrives in what order.
-Use the Throne Room for introductions and gifts (if that's your intent). Use private audiences for negotiating deals.
-In the Throne Room there will only ever be one delegation at a time, and even then, more private discussions are to take place in separate chambers at a later time.
-While awaiting your audience, feel free to interact with each other by having your escort bring you to the other delegation.
-Try not to kill each other, as this will result in you being sent home early. :smallannoyed:

Senators Hanistizo Kellin and Sashra Sha Sa arrived in a small Triumviral galley that had been sent to accompany the Novranian escort and invitational ship. The two Senators had met with the Novranian Captain and found him quite an intriguingly stoic fellow and Han had asked that they be allowed to travel with the newcomers and dismiss sending one of their own ships but his request had been refused as too dangerous and as an imposition on the Novranian people to have to sail the Senators back. Begrudgingly Han had agreed, though he and Sha had made a point to meet with the foreign captain nearly every day on his ship for dinner. It was pleasant, and the Captain, who's name was Tork Plumé, or as his crew and the Senators better knew him as, Captain Plumé was a wealth of knowledge about the new country the Senators were journeying to.

This would be the second country to rise from a largely internationally irrelevant group of peoples that the Senators had visited in recent years. Han had wondered to Sha whether it was something in the water. Despite his jokes however Han had also gathered an impression of the new country before he had yet arrived. It seemed in many ways to be a similar origin to that of AQUA and a culture no doubt that would be somewhat reflective of their northern neighbors. Still, if Captain Plumé was any indication they were not near so revelrous as their northern cousins which was certainly something to keep in mind on this journey.

The journey had taken nearly 2 months, some of which was exacerbated by passing through the Straits of Diyu and negotiating passage through the Salterri controlled waters. Bordeux had never been close with the Triumvirate but silently Han wondered whether the Solusian Canal when completed would be such a bureaucratic nightmare. In any event, the Senators had arrived at the city and docked at Dordestone's harbor, discharging themselves from the boat and being guided to the King's Fort by a team of guardsmen.

"They're sso new at thiss, but sso proud," Sha whispered to Han as the two of them were guided inside.

Han smiled at his friend, "Not unlike our Cree friends. Though perhaps not all these men have been trained to crack the spines of Khalifs."

Sha hissed out a small bit of laughter and the two arrived at the suite that had been set aside for them.

"Thank you honor guards of Novrania, you do your country proud," Han shook the guards hands, letting a golden coin, a Triumviral Igno, slide out of his hand and into the hand of each guard, "We would appreciate an opportunity to meet with your king at the earliest time convenient to his Majesty."

Han smiled winningly and the two Senators entered their suite, appraising it approvingly and awaiting to hear back on their invitation.

Senator Hanistizo "Han" Kellin - Senator from Nyroth, a faefolk man of middling age with pale shimmering skin, shoulder length pink hair, violet eyes, tall and thin. Dressed well in a tunic of silk and comfortable and rich but not overly extravagant clothing.

Senator Sashra Sha Sa - Senator from Nyroth, lizardfolk woman of middling age with dark green scales beginning to fade at their edges, short and thin and identifiable as female only through her voice and height and even then only to those who have sharp perception or a familiarity with lizardfolk biology. Dressed finely and in a similar style to Han.

The guards have had plenty of time to become accustomed to the Senators and their foreign cultures, and so they were not completely perplexed as to the purpose of the golden coins. However, the Senators also know that there is no currency on Novrania, most transactions operating on a barter or merit system. Nonetheless, each guard keeps the memento to add flavor to the stories they'll tell one day in the future.

As to their request, Captain Plumé and his men will take the Senators immediately through the halls and to the Throne Room. As they enter, the good Captain announces, "I bring Senator Hanistizo Kellin and Senator Sashra Sha Sa, of the Triumvirate. They have traveled far across the seas and between many lands to grace our waters."

"And they are of utmost welcome. I am Corvus Caine, the First King of Novrania. Please pardon us if our eyes linger, but I will admit freely that we have never imagined people of your appearance would be in our presence. We are a young nation, new to the world at large, and we apologize for our rudeness." King Corvus stood as he spoke and made it clear to those present that it was indeed rudeness to stare in awe at their guests. For the most part, those in the room seemed to attempt to follow the advice, but the scriveners went mad with imaginative descriptions and eloquent details as the furiously copied everything down.

"Your Majesty," Han said himself and Sha bowing deeply, "You honor us with your invitation. As for any perceived rudeness, think nothing of it. We are a strange and new people from your perspective just as yours are new to ourselves. If people cannot be expected to be curious about the unknown then the progress of civilization is doomed."

Han looked around the room, noting the two men standing vigil beside the new King and the myriad of pseudo-courtiers scattered about the room.

"I must first compliment your court King Corvus, you have done much in little time. Captain Plumé told us how you rose to overthrow a corrupt council that sought to keep your people back through their greed and selfishness. To depose a cruel master, no matter the number, is something we of the Triumvirate shall always support, but tell me, if it is not too much to pry, how is it you settled on Kingship? I got the impression from Captain Plumé that yours was a nation of sailors, with Captains picked on merit and ability. To say nothing against Kingship, but what is it that assures the next King is a good and proper ruler?"

Han did not mince words, and though he was not a fervent Civil Rights member or even a latent Reformist, the most recent events surrounding Dissator Ethmorl's ascendancy had reawakened a lively debate over succesroship within the Triumvirate. Han wished to hear an unadulterated opinion from a nation that had so recently made the choice to follow a King's hand as to why and the foreign thoughts on maintaining the stability of such a rule.

At that question King Corvus sat again in the large, black throne. Without reason to hide his contemplation, he furrowed his brow and thought over his answer as the seconds dragged on. The elder adviser stepped forward and whispered something to the young King that they both seemed to agree with and then King Corvus spoke again, "You have heard correctly from Captain Plumé, captaincy is indeed a position of merit and responsibility. However, it is more often than not the crew that picks the Captain. And when a crew is stuck with a bad Captain, for whatever reason, it's often the crew that removes and replaces said Captain. And so it was with our Council. As good crewmen who felt the needs of many being overlooked, we rose in mutiny.

"But this you likely know. As for why we settled on having a King, well, it may be that a Council had proven faulty. It may be that the Captain that lead the mutiny was a clear choice for the role. It may also be that the novelty of such an idea appealed to the people, in such a way that was comforting and familiar. As with my role as Captain, I am beholden to my Crew, my People." King Corvus finished his small speech to some applause by those in the Throne Room and as it died down he continued. "As for what makes the next King so great? I owe it to the people to raise my newborn son in such a way that he would make a great Captain, and thus an acceptable King. And I am not alone in this. Among my people we often say that it takes a ship to raise a child right. Well, we've got the entirety of Novrania to call upon. Markus should be fine in his own time."

Han smiled and nodded, "A social contract, a connection between a leader and his people. Very good. Our friends to the south, the Kingdom Carmine are beholden to the people in much the same way. It is the responsibility of a good leader to rule well and wise the responsibility of their people to hold them to these standards, for it is within their right to 'mutiny' against those deemed unworthy. I sense you already know of this, your words speak of its wisdom being ingrained, but I personally find reminders have never hurt my feelings."

"But please forgive me, I come into your court and firstly question your right to rule. You must understand it is trepidation the Triumvirate walks with while leaders such as the Teotlkan of the East subjugates and abuses those under his rule that causes our paranoia now when meeting new sovereigns. But yours seems a responsible and fair governance, so let me speak now as a new friend with smiles and gifts! Aboard our galley men await to bring you treasures from our lands, I would humbly request they be contacted that they may bring forward these gifts. However, while we wait for their arrival I too have a personal gift that your answer to my questioning has proved you worthy of in my eyes."

Han pulled a small box that had been held by his belt out and extended it forward, not approaching the King so as to not cause undue alarm but allowing one of His Majesty's retainers to come and take the box for examination and passing on.

It was an intricately carved wooden box crafted from the dark hardwoods of Genivanan jungle wood. The inlay on the box depicted an ocean scene with ships and waters filled with Pono Al Ono. Inside was a intricate silver ring, forged with the engraving of a ship upon it and a small circlet of gems alternating between rubies, sapphires, and emeralds encircling the engraving.

"It is the policy of the Triumvirate to recognize great captains within our navies with rings of silver such as this one. Admirals receive ones with a precious gem embedded. This gift to you represents the Triumvirate's belief in your nation as commanders of the southern seas much as we respect AQUA as the leaders of naval ability upon the Sea of the Golden Sun."

Han smiled pleasantly, he hoped the sovereign would recognize the ring for what it was, an endorsement from a foreign realm hoping to bind ties with the new power in the south through friendship and cooperation and that it would be taken as such.

The two soldiers accompanying Captain Plumé immediately turn and leave, intent on relaying the orders to retrieve the items from the foreign Galley. The Captain himself brought the small box forward to King Corvus and hush fell about the room. At first, Corvus admired the beautiful woodwork of the dark container, something many Novranians take pride in. He then opened the box and pulled the treasure from inside, holding it high for all to admire. A collective gasp went about the room and unfiltered awe shone from every Novranian in the room. It may be at this time that the Senators noticed that there was no jewelry or ornamentation of any form of metal on any Novranian they have ever met. In fact, the crown of their King is made from driftwood and coral. Before they can second-guess their gift too much, however, King Corvus says, "This is truly a beautiful work of art and craftsmanship. I thank you, personally, from my deepest depths. I shall cherish this ring, and all it signifies, for the entirety of my rule. And if my successor proves to be an able King, so shall they." The room bursts into applause and many men and women, Captains and Scriveners alike, are unable to decide between staring at their esteemed guests or their astonishing gift.

So, yeah… a small bit of gemstone fever is natural to Novranians. They may be descended from pirates…

My roll is 22 (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showsinglepost.php?p=18216605&postcount=1141)

The AQUA delegation arrived with their latest ship designs. Lead by Skipper-General’s Flagship “The New Horizon”, it was flanked by 6 other ships of similar design. Kingbirds flew in formation, landing and taking off from the decks as they sailed. The ships integrated clockwork mechanisms to reduce crews and increase speed, and aeromancers upon each assured the wind blew to maximize the force on the sails, no matter what the natural wind did.

Each ship was equipped with both lens technology and sound-directing technology using thundersheet plants. It allowed the captains to talk to each other clearly and concisely. Granted, they hadn’t quite figured out how to stop it from sending amplified sounds, but it worked for the most part. Glowing crystals shone light below decks, removing one of the greatest threats at sea- fire.

With the armada came an escort of six Pono al a Ono. They had prospered under Celero’s more hands-on guidance, but they still saw the AQUA sailors as kindred spirits. Sweetums and Gonzo the Great were amongst them.

Captain Hassen stood beside the Skipper-General, anxious to take his turn piloting their remarkable ships. She was one of the older Novranian captains. She didn’t believe the wild stories the shipwrecked AQUA sailors told of their homelands. Even after returning the crew and spending time in the Islands, she found some of their behaviors incredible. But as she travelled with them, she came to understand the inherent fatalism of the Islanders. Their Sea of the Golden Sun was fickle and wild, with storms popping up almost in an instant. Her encounters with the kracken, the leviathan, even the friendly Pono al a Ono reinforced the idea of death lurking everywhere. It made the Islanders “live for today” attitude more understandable.

When they arrived, the giant sea beasts made themselves comfortable among the rocks while the people travelled to the meeting. The humans and non humans carried their weapons suitable for sea warfare. It would not do to travel aboard ship dressed like a stone. They settled into their staterooms like seasoned sailors, used to travelling light.

Only Andus, Maximillian, and Scora went to meet the king. Andus, for obvious reasons. Max tagged along, having formed a strong (some say largely horizontal) bond with Captain Hassen as they travelled. They waited patiently for their turn to speak to the King. Scora as the Quill elder.

****Upon their appointed time****
King Andus smiled and greeted the king warmly, “King Caine, Greetings! We of the Ancestral Quill Unification Alliance are so proud to have been part of your introduction to Telluris, even if it was by accident. Your people and so many of ours seem to have such a kinship.”
“Captain Hassen has told us much of your history as we travelled. AQUA too, arose from the compact of the ship and crew into the Skipper-General and Council positions of today. We look forward to another cousin of the seas, so to speak, coming upon Telluris.”

“We Islanders use that word, cousin, uniquely. To us, it is wider than merely a blood relation. It is those with which we have shared struggle, strife, and triumph. A cousin is one with whom we share intersts and passions. We would be proud to call your people cousins to ours.”
To assist our new cousins, we offer several gifts.” Max brought forth a study sea trunk. It was of fine hardwood and decorated with jewels and precious metal accents. But the king’s practiced eye noted it dimensions, its construction, and quickly saw it was designed to be exceptionally seaworthy and watertight as well as beautiful. He opened it, revealing that it was full of papers and had several objects.

“We offer you first a record of our history as we moved from individual sea captains to a unified government, and then into our current alliance. May our triumphs and mistakes prove instructive. We offer also our latest maps and star charts for all the seas we have travelled. If there is a greater joy than sailing the wide oceans, it is seeing yourself safely home after a long journey. May these charts keep you safe. And lastly, we offer a sample of the navigation aids we often use- the compass, telescope, and sextant. May they be instruments of further engagement between our peoples.”

-----
The Silver Moon delegation arrives on a small contingent of ships- five, the largest of which was the Lord John- named after the first ruler of Bordeux, who repelled the hordes of the Cree in ages long past. The ship itself is constructed of strong cedar, with a large witchlight stone set on the prow. On the mast resides a Kingbird, with its rider equipped with lenses from Bordeux. Beneath the hold are samples of Valterran gemstones and Malkavanin Adamus, glowing faintly in the light of witchlight stones set into sconces on the hull.
-----
Miranda steps off the boat accompanied by two others- one, a member of the Faceless, clad in a gold mask in the form of a tiger. The mask contrasts sharply with her long silver hair, marking her as a Valterran elf. The other is Aaron Nu, a broad shouldered man with brown hair and brown eyes. One arm, however, has been replaced by a prosthetic. It is made of a thin adamus veneer with small glass windows, wherein gears meticulously tick. Around the edges of the windows are carved faint symbols. Miranda herself is dressed in a black velvet dress, the edges of which are picked out in gold runes of mourning.

Greeting from the Silver Moon, honored Captain. I was informed there were rooms available for our use? I believe the Lady would perhaps like a moment to refresh herself- and steady her legs. Afterwards, we would like an audience with your King.
-----
You know, it reminds me of home, smiles Aaron, a tad wistfully.

Doesn't compare to Aralis, though, I think. The marble arches, the great cathedral, the clear blue canals. Interesting to see what the people- and their leader- will be like.

AQUA Delegation

At sea, several ships nearly capsized for overcrowding the rails as thousands of sailors forsook their duties to witness the marvels that were the AQUAn ships. Many Captains and sailors were overcome with such joy and awe that their own livelihoods looked laughable in comparison. Most of those persons found a new resolve to better the art of ship craft, while a few decided to find meaning in their lives elsewhere. Most likely as a woodworker.

Of all the peoples set to arrive at Novrania, the AQUA Delegation was the first to be greeted with cheers. The Quill explorers from two years past were considered celebrities and their goodwill was returned tenfold to the delegation. An entire ship's crew volunteered to tend to the Pono al a Ono in all their needs, as such creatures were not entirely expected. Truthfully, most of the original Quill's stories were considered a bit exaggerated, and the King's library was hundreds of years out of date. Nonetheless, in the spirit of hospitality, the Novranians made a serious effort to amend their shortcomings.

Captain Hassen was pleased to escort the delegation wherever they so desired, and soon they were before the Throne itself. Before she could make the introductions King Andus beat her to it. Taking his cue from the Captain that had traveled with these people, King Corvus waited and allowed the older King to say his piece before replying, "And a fitting description it is, Cousin. May you always feel at home in Novrania."

As the gifts were brought out something unexpected occurred. One could call it a riot and be wrong, but not by much. Every single person in the Throne Room was on their feet at the presentation of such a perfectly crafted chest. But once it was opened Captain Hassen's soldiers had to level their spears at the crowds to prevent a mad rush for the goods within. Nearly a split second later King Corvus and his two advisers were examining the written works within and utterly failing to hide their wonder and speechlessness. As King Andus continued to explain the contents of the chest and further gifts it was soon apparent that the crowds would chance the spears for a better glimpse of the treasures. The murmuring crowd had become a dull roar and soon an uproar in and of itself. The last words of King Andus' message were lost and soon King Corvus stepped up onto his Throne, drew his pale blue blade and demanded, "Silence!"

The following quiet was disturbed only by the echoes of that command reverberating along the circular chamber. Every Novranian stopped immediately, such was the ingrained respect for their Captain-Above-Captains. "Are we children to clamour for gifts? To make animals of ourselves before our guests? The lot of you have ashamed me!" he says to the crowded room. He turns his eyes to King Andus and sheaths his blade, saying, "Please, accept my deepest apologies. I fear we, as a people, are unaccustomed to receiving gifts. Let alone our very heart's desires. You must understand, we have been shrouded in ignorance for so long that the only treasure we value more than gemstones is that of knowledge. If there is any way in which we can repay you for these generous gifts, you must simply ask." Those who had been willing to risk injury for a chance to read some knew scrap of knowledge or examine a tool designed by these masters of the sea were now sitting quietly, each greatly ashamed of their own actions. The room takes on a somewhat solemn atmosphere as things return to normal.

Silver Moon Delegation

The wood known as cedar to those of the Silver Moon is also the same wood used to build the ships of Novrania, as they soon find out. The detailing is very different, of course, and it seems the Novranians paint their ships with a deeper red coat that serves to darken the redwood, but the smell is the same. And that smell is what greets them in the Dordestone Harbour. From this angle, it appears that the entire city is made of the same wood, with many of the buildings mossed over. It's apparent that this is a land of heavy rains, and the locals have accepted the inevitable growths.

The Captain that had escorted the delegation, a stout man named Brock Sanders, nods curtly and proceeds to lead their guest to the King's Fort. Off of the main hall there are a small collection of rooms reserved for such a delegation. Once ready, the three delegates are escorted further down the hall to the Throne Room, where Captain Brock announces, "The Lady Miranda, Aaron Nu, and one of the Faceless, from the Kingdom of the Silver Moon. May I present you to Corvus Caine, First King of Novrania."

"Welcome to Novrania," King Corvus responds. "I hope your journey was well?"

A Novranian galley heralded the arrival of the Huroshans roughly two hours before scouts reported a gigantic ship/zeppelin hybrid flying through the air above the sea to the north of the city. Swiftly approaching, it made its way to the harbor, hovering silently above a stretch of water under which no ships laid anchored. The ship shone in the sun, plates of mithril, adamantine and orichalcum glittering in many, many colors.

http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g452/allisinthepass/airship_193730.jpg

A lift was lowered from the Marius' Pride, as such was the name of the carrier, hung up on a long mithril chain, was lowered with a long rattle, within it two Novranian crewmembers who wanted to experience riding the air currents in such a monstrous machine.

Shortly after, a second lift was lowered, revealing Emperor Wayve Earthguard and his son and heir, Rove Earthguard, attended by the Keldagrim Ambassador, the dwarven woman known as Helga Grimhammer. However, something was different this time. They were not clad in their armaments, chosing to instead dress in normal shirts and vests. By no means they weren't up to standard, being made out of fine silks, cotton and laced with crimson Tanedhan feathers, but it was quite different from what the world had seen before. Nevertheless, the Huroshans still carried their weapons wherever they went, Wayve's massive axe resting comfortably upon his back. Three members of the Royal Guard accompanied the trio, watching out for any potential disturbances. The Ambassador of Zargrim, Kenwyn Jakson and the Ambassador of Gwîstîn, Grïend, remained on the ship to supervise the crew and keep the ship running.

Being guided by the two crew members, they made their way to the private rooms, in which they made themselves comfortable for half an hour, admiring the scenery, before requesting a meeting with their host.

They entered the circular chamber, all three saluting the king with their hands on their harts before Wayve spoke up.

"May disaster never touch upon your Prowess, King Corvus. I am Shïnguard Wayve Earthguard, Emperor of the Hurosha Empire. Although we do not share a border with you through the waters of the ocean, we are connected by the endess sea of air that surrounds us all. Fortunately, my colonists stumbled across your ships in foreign ports and send me a message of this Conference. I hope you can forgive my rather unannounced arrival."

Rove presented a bundle, offering it to the king.

"In this bundle lays a Tanedhan feather cloak, a traditional gift to promote good-will and friendship from my homeland. It will keep you warm, even in the coldest of climates. Also, I bring you a copy of the star-charts of the northern hemisphere, may they guide your people on their journies."

Councilor Conrad Wulfen arrived in the city aboard a Sterk ship which quite surprisingly came from the west rather than the east. The Councilor had been chosen to attend the Conference some months prior however with the Sterk navy serving to ferry Caercian troops to Nan Hai to march north against the Zuiguo he had been forced to accompany the warband west past his destination and then take one of the docked ships at Nan Hai back out to sea to return to the island of Novrania. Needless to say the Councilor was had been rather nonplussed about the entire situation but had carried himself with a good and happy demeanor. The warfront would have perhaps interested him more in his younger days when he was still seeking glory but his position now as Councilor upon the Caercian Council meant there was little of appeal upon the fields of battle and to remain removed from the political realm for so long as to go to war would surely be a detriment rather than a benefit.

Still, the time abroad as a Councilor travelling with the Lord Protector had allowed him some time to become more familiar with his new son Nao. Councilor Wulfen had opposed the boy's adoption and placement within the lineage, petitioning Markus or even Ji, who though adopted was raised his entire life Caercian, to press their own issue and depose the adopted foreigner but the Golden Emir and Golden Dragon, as the Court had taken to calling Ji, had dismissed him and the Councilor had felt certain the Consortium was doomed. Yet Nao had proven surprisingly adept at gauging the political dissent that so circulated around him and in a quiet hour the young man had confessed to the Councilor a plan he wished conveyed to Markus and Ji both that had changed Conrad's notions on opposing the young lad. It was a matter he planned to discuss with the other Councilors upon his return as well as passing the message on to the Golden Emir and Golden Dragon, a position as messenger which he hoped would earn the House Wulfen no small amount of renown.

His thoughts drifted back to the present as the Sterk ship docked and he was lead through the island to the King's Fort and politely thanked his accompaniments, informing them there was a small amount of gifts that had been stowed secretly on the ship to keep the Sterk sailors from ransacking the gifts during their ferrying duty and asking that they bring the items to his room that he might prepare them and himself for a meeting with the King, to be carried out at the King's convenience.

The three bow- Aaron and the Faceless both bowing deeper than Miranda. It was fine, Good King. Thank you for your concern, and for the hospitality you have yielded to weary travelers. It certainly beats a rocking ship.

And, as thanks for that hospitality, I have brought gifts, collected from across the lands under the Silver Moon. Opening the cedar box, he pulls out a crown made of adamus, with rubies and sapphires set into the sides. In the center is a small witchlight stone, its warm, golden glow filling the room. The adamus in the crown, as well as the metal coating Aaron's arm, glows a fierce white- not as bright or as intensive as the witchlight, but giving the metal an inner glow. The colors from the assembled gemstones, too, grow fiercer within the light. With this gift, I must give a short history lesson. The silvery- white metal this is made of is sacred to my people. A council of elders from across Malkavan were assembled before this could be commissioned. In the end, it was decided the gift to be made. Know this, and that to harm the adamus or the witchlight is a grave offense to us. Many apologies if the crown is not to your specifications- if necessary, smiths can recreate it to another size, should it be necessary.

Next, he pulls out a leather bound book, with the words "Grand History" emblazoned on the front in gold. This is a book printed in Ashenia. It details the recent history of the world, at least as much as could be ascertained from public knowledge from around the world. It is printed in the common trade tongue. Regretfully, we do not possess the knowledge of your own tongue- else we would have had it printed in that. Finally, he pulls out a small glass bottle with a gold and ruby stopper. Inside it is a rich, golden liquid that flows with the viscosity of honey. This is ambrosia, imported from Indica. The residents say it will lengthen your youth; personally, I doubt it. In either case, it possesses a wonderful taste- sweeter than honey, but inducing reinvigorating feeling. There is more, aboard our ship, albeit in less fancy packaging.

"I am glad it is well taken Your Majesty, I regret much of the rest of our gifts may not be so personal, though I hope they'll be no less enjoyable."

"Yess, they were ssertainly an amusing bunch to have aboard the sship," Sha said.

"Hush now or you'll spoil the surprise!" Han admonished his fellow Senator lightheartedly, "While we wait, perhaps you could tell me King Corvus, what future do you wish for Novrania? You are entering a complicated and oft times dangerous world so inviting the world to your court. What is it you hope for the world to think when they look upon your flag or your outline upon a map?"

It was rare for anyone to stand taller than King Alfmark at international gatherings, but even he was overtopped by the Novranian escort as he stepped from the Qzare Xiu Wandao. Novrania was a tedious place to get to: while the distance might have appeared convenient on a map, the circuitous route necessary via the Grand Canal and the Straits of Diyu rendered it hardly quicker than to cross the mountains and travel by land. The indignity of waiting at the checkpoints at both Maos and the eastern Canal had done little to improve the royal family's mood, and upon passing the Titan the sight of the enormous statue of the king's nephew had produced a curiously neutral response. But Corvus was a king, and a king deserved to be treated as such. Alfmark had not travelled abroad for ten years and it was time he responded to the honour extended to him at the last Games.

He was accompanied by his twin sons, each of them with more pronounced elven features than his own, and with skin so dark as to be almost completely black, each also nearly indistinguishable from the other even in their late twenties. The only identifiable difference was in clothing, where one of them wore gloves and a very high collar that reached right to the base of his chin, though otherwise their garments were similar in cut and in colour. All three wore swords, though Alfmark had as usual traded the crown for a simple circlet to denote his position.

One of his retainers handed a notice to the escort to precede him at the King's Fort in order to avoid any embarrassment regarding titles or failure to recognise the heraldry - his full title style: Alfmark, King of the Jarrs, the Venns, the Sylphids and the Elves, Prince of Farridon, Proconsul Carmine - and the identity of the other eminent persons within his entourage. Behind the king followed a tall man of similar age and classically Jarrland features, bearing a Kasumor-style sword, a pale and slight woman with mottled skin, apparently in middle age, and a distinctly elvish figure with extremely pale skin and blue-grey hair.

Having established themselves in their quarters, they left the servants to unpack all but the gifts for their host, and made their way to the King's Fort to greet him.

Huroshan Delegation

The two hour lead that Captain Shael Gyren had over the Huroshans most likely saved many from plucking their own eyes out in disbelief. Be that as it may, none truly took her story at face value for the sheer enormity of the task and the impossible nature of a flying ship. Those very same persons were all greatly humbled as the Huroshans "docked" in Dordestone Harbor.

No man or woman begrudged the delegation their weapons, in fact such finery was just as often the target of awe and admiration as the fine clothing and the strange anatomies. The Novranian people were gorging their eyes on exotic peoples and fine things, as they seemed to assume was their right. This was their homeland, after all.

As the delegation was brought to the Throne Room, Captain Shael Gyren announced them, "May I present the delegation for Huroshan Empire: Emperor Shïnguard Wayve Earthguard. His heir: Rove Earthguard. And the Ambassador Helga Grimhammer."

The large man, with his ferocious beard, whispered something to his King just quiet enough to be missed. The younger man spoke to the delegates, "I am Corvus Caine, First King of Novrania. Be welcome here in my home and may the winds forever favor you. Had we known of such a marvelous Empire out of reach I would have instructed my Captain to trek across the land to invite you."

As the gifts are presented, many of the older Captains give a gruff nod of approval to the feather cloak, showing their appreciation for it's practicality. Many more restrain themselves from blurting out any of the thousands of questions they have about airships. As the star charts are provided a round of appreciative sounds and whispered conversation fill the circular room. Such knowledge is truly a gift that can be shared with all the Novranian peoples.

"Emperor, you present truly extraordinary gifts that we shall ever hold dear to our hearts, but it is my duty to speak for my people and I know their thoughts exactly in this matter: What secrets of the Airships can you divulge to a nation of proud Captains newly made humble?" King Corvus asks. It wasn't the most polite of requests, but it was honest and sometimes that was the better route.

Caercian Delegation

Escorted by a young female Captain by the name of Dimula Gyren, Councilor Conrad Wulfen and Lord Protector Nao were perhaps the least overtly extravagant delegates to walk the streets of Dordestone. However, soon word spread from one source to another and when the Captains heard that the delegation was from a Kingdom at war they began telling tales of how extravagance is a luxury of peace times. The story passed like fire through the wooden city and no matter where the delegates looked, they found solemn respect reflected in the eyes of nearly every citizen. War had been one of the most common topics of the Secret Library, and after years of reading and re-reading the same stories over and over, many of the citizenry decided that war was truly a gruesome thing, not meant to be celebrated.

As Councilor Conrad and Lord Protector Nao refreshed themselves, runners were sent to retrieve the gifts from their ship. Once they were prepared, Captain Dimula lead her esteemed guests to the Throne Room and presented them, "I present Lord Protector Nao and Councilor Conrad Wulfen of Palas Caercia to the East and West. They heed your invitation during a time of war, my King."

"Then I welcome you, and bid you respite should you require it. I am Corvus Caine, First King of Novrania, and although I am unable to pledge assistance in your war, I promise your safety here. May the land offer you shelter for when it is needed," Corvus said as the strangers were presented. The entirety of the room took on a more somber tone and many men and women removed their hats in respect. The scriveners kept to the writing but almost ashamedly so, as if writing anything in regards to war bothered them personally.

Delegates from the Kingdom of the Carmine Sea

The elves of the Carmine Sea were a surprising sight to many of the Novranians that had lined the city streets. Where many of the other delegations had humans of shorter stature, these folk were nearly as tall as their hosts. It prompted many a shorter person to find an unknown pride in some semblance with such an exotic people, despite knowing nothing about them.

That royal family had been escorted by one Captain Corrin Arios, an old hand at sea who had now seen more than any of his ancestors. Such feats of magnificence were the Straits of Diyu, and the Grand Canal! To say nothing of the enormous Titan! What tales he would tell; how rich he had become in stories. But as per his orders, he was busy with the delegates and soon he had them in the Throne Room. Stepping forward, he announced, "I have the great honor to present Alfmark, King of the Jarrs, the Venns, the Sylphids and the Elves, Prince of Farridon, Proconsul Carmine-" he takes a deep breath and continues "-Queen Melhib; Prince Alfwyn and Prince Alfmyr; Duke Wiltor of Sunder, the King's Champion; Neralla, Ireiarchon Varasugis; and Elthwe, Earl of Liustia." He finished with another large breath and was about to announce his own King when the young man in the throne and crown raised a hand.

"I am Corvus Caine, First King of Novrania. I bid you welcome, all of you, to my home. May the winds forever whisper your names upon the gentle waves. I understand you have come a long way to reach us and I thank you again. This is primarily a time of learning and knowledge for my people and I hope you enjoy your visit."

The eyes of every Novranian in the room turned to their King and awaited his answer. Even the scriveners stopped and waited, ink quills at the ready to catch his next words. To his credit, King Corvus Caine took a moment to think before he responded. "I wish to throw off our shackles of ignorance and turn Novrania into a place of great learning. I wish us to be a prosperous trading partner on the world stage with the likes of other great kingdoms and empires. I wish for our Captains to earn their pride from the respect of other nations and cultures. In short, I wish for my people not to simply survive, but to thrive."

Silver Moon Delegation

The crown that was granted as a gift was more beautifully crafted than anything Corvus Caine had ever seen. He was tempted to wear it now, as a symbol of status and power, to cast off his driftwood crown and feel truly wealthy and powerful and... and he stopped there. Those were personal desires that were not conducive to the ruling of his people and thus had no place in a Captain. He had not yet earned this crown, and such a jewel may cost more than it was worth. "I do appreciate the beauty and the history behind this crown, I really do, but I do not know if my people would be content with me accepting it. Perhaps, down the road, when our two nations are closer in spirit, such a gift would be appropriate. As for now, let us earn such respect."

The Ambrosia was accepted with many thanks and some curiosity, but it was soon forgotten as the Grand History was revealed. Such a treasure was beyond imagining. A book, containing a history of the known world during those hundreds of years when Novrania was lost to the world. Several scriveners stopped writing for sheer awe. The Captains went silent, their eyes on King Corvus, terrified that he might turn down such another wonderful treasure. But Corvus wasn't entirely a fool, he accepted the book with gracious words, "I don't know how well you know our people, but such knowledge is considered worth more than gemstones. My Captains are afraid I will turn this down as well, but even I cannot resist this treasure. I thank you from my deepest depths, as a King and as a man of Novrania."

I am glad you can enjoy it, Good King. There is more than that, though; while the holds of our ships are filled with ambrosia, and gemstones like those on the crown, it appears knowledge is what is truly valuable to you. There are books of math, and science; wonderful inventions like the printing press, to create more books like that, and of clockwork gears. They are free to you. I expect no compensation; these books are common knowledge to much of the world. To withhold them from you would be akin to a crime.

And, to help those like me., Aaron steps forward, his prosthetic arm held out for inspection. I know, it looks- and feels- odd, unnatural. But it saved my life. Missing an arm, even as a child of a minor nobleman, was a disaster for me. But this, this lets me lead a normal life. One I couldn't have led otherwise.

AQUA Delegation"Please, accept my deepest apologies.

Andus laughed gently to lighten the mood, "The joy of your people at our humble gifts is repayment tenfold. May the knowledge serve you well." He did pause for a moment then added, "We would request some time to discuss more formal trade relations, at your convienience of course. We are willing to wait until the arriving delegations have all had a chance to greet your people."

Andus pointed to the large map of Telluris he brought with. "Celero has colonies here and here, AQUA along here. Bordeaux controls this region, Alydaxis, here, and Ashenia all along the map up top here. The Salterri Empire and its vassals control most of this region." He said gesturing.

"You are stepping into a ocean, full of big fish. Celero and AQUA have survived as little fish for a long time by being clever. We have been debating a more formal union for some time, but find it hard to do as a two entity group. But with you having maritime ambitions, perhaps your nation could be the balancing point between ours."

He goes on to describe the Federation AQUA and Celero envisions. A mercantile, innovation, and defense union, while leaving the rule of individual nations to their own devices. He does not ask for an answer at any time, merely that it be considered.

"Big Empires are offering many gifts to people willing to sell their freedom to them. They all seek vassals they can control- even if they claim they won't control them. The feeding frenzy over an independent Crima a few years back was positively disgusting."
ooc: It is a serious offer. Logic and I have been trying to find a third for a federation for several rounds now. Logic would go the curiosity route, and forget about faith. I'd take either military or diplomacy (exploration), I'm not particular. You could take your lands almost any way you wanted

Han threw his hands up in a welcoming gesture, "Then may I welcome you as a friend to the Triumvirate!"

At that, no doubt a cue that had previously been worked out by the Senator a literal band of, what no doubt looked to the Novranians to be, large silver scaled skinks came spilling into the room. Some skittered quickly ahead on all fours, instruments strapped to their backs which quickly slung around front as they entered properly and sat back on their haunches allowing their forearms to freely grab their instruments and begin playing. Others came in more slowly, steady but deliberate in their walking with only two feet, instruments already at the ready. A melodious and upbeat song spilled from their instruments and a few of the creatures began to sing, their voices almost hypnotic in their pitch.

"May I present for your entertainment, the preeminent Kobold musicians to come out of the Musical Halls of K'Braashriix!" Han shouted above the music, smiling broadly.

As the musicians played and entertained the king and his guests the Senators moved to ready their other gifts, chests that had been brought in by the native porters along with the musicians for presentation to the King.

OOC: Nao isn't Lord Protector (yet) nor was he intended to be present though rereading my introduction I can certainly see where both misconceptions could have arisen and I apologize. This is why I usually do an attendees Spoiler :P That said, while Nao wasn't going to be present I kinda like the idea that he is so I'm going to roll with it and he's heir to be Lord Protector so the title might as well be applied and we'll say he's known as Lord Protector Junior since the original inheritor title of Emir has kinda been kept by the previous heir.

"We thank you for your hospitality and offer apologies that the Lord-, my father could not attend personally but matters in the West draw his attention," Nao spoke somewhat stiffly.

"The Consortium wishes that your interactions with the greater world do not find you faced with belligerent foes as the Consortium has found during its years," Councilor Conrad added, his demeanor that of a much more well trained diplomat, "For that purpose we have brought with us Cana as a gesture of diplomacy and goodwill."

The Councilor raised a small bag from the small assortment of gifts on the floor. Inside it were six small brown beans flecked with green spots.

"These are enjoyed for recreation and in diplomatic meetings to relieve tension and stress, you are invited to join myself and the Lord Protector Junior in partaking in this ritual if you so choose," at that the Councilor and Nao both took a bean each and popped them in their mouths, chewing them slowly.

****TIME BUBBLE****

At some point, the AQUA delegation takes time to mingle with the Caercian Delegation.

"Lord Protector Nao, Councilor Conrad Wulfen. So good to see you. I hope that your presence here bodes well for your troubles at home?" Andus asks politely.

"I can't say I know to which troubles you might be referring," the Councilor smiled pleasantly, "Perhaps you mean the recent addition of Lord Protector Nao as a member of the family Caercia? I assure you that has been met only with the utmost joy and celebration."

Nao looked flustered as he glanced towards the Councilor but caught the older man's subtle look and regained his composure.

"Yes, things run well in my adopted homeland, the Lord Protector Cassius has made sure to ensure prosperity continues and I have done my own share as his adopted son and appointed heir for the people of the Consortium and in memory of my blood father to make sure the coming transition is a smooth one."

"Indeed, the Council and the people have the utmost faith in Nao to carry on the traditions and rights of our people. The Lord Protector Cassius would not have chosen him as his son and heir if he did not believe in him and both Lord Protectors continue to prove themselves on the soil of the Zuiguo as that wretched Kingdom is brought to heel to its betters."

"But enough on local politics of our nation, what of AQUA and Neimidaland? Such a wide spanning net those of AQUA cast. I have heard that the Governor in the Eastern Province passed on his title to his youngest son, the boy's bloodline is from Tzaltec lands no? It seems AQUA has expressed displeasure with the practices of the Tzaltec, I hope the new Governor recognizes to whom he is pledged? The Qzarina has made it clear the Imperium is not to become involved and the Consortium abides."

"I am pleased to hear your recent changes have occured without incident. AQUA recently finished a new round of voting for Council positions which was trouble enough. I can only imagine the issues from your political structure. But you are right, my in-laws can be quite a handful. They have been...interesting in politics for decades. It was a great sadness to him that the Grant family's miraculous fertility failed in him. Adopting my wife and her brothers brought Martin and Yvinia great joy." He realized he was waxing nostalgic, so turned to more formal talk.
"Martin has both loyalty and affection for his leige. He honored his pledges and followed directions. I expect his son Gilligan to be loyal as well. The boy, excuse me, young man might have a reputation as accident prone, but he is a capable administrator. And his wife comes from Ashenia. Power politics is the very color of her blood."

"Voting among such large numbers must no doubt be troubling. We of the Council of course confirm our Lord Protector's heir as is our right, but to amass the votes of so many must no doubt be the definition of tedium pardoning the sentiment," Conrad said through a smile.

"It is good to hear that the young man will have a steady hand to guide him. Behind every great man there is a great woman isn't that what they say? I do wonder about those men who take so long to marry yet still lead great lives however," his eyes flashed towards Nao, "One must wonder how long a single individual can sustain themselves without the input from another more delicate hand. It has even been recognized in law that a Protector and Lord Protector both need a Governess and Lady Governess respectably to help guide the hand of governance."

Nao looked uncomfortable but remained friendly. The young man's blood father had been unlucky in love, fathering Nao late in life, and it seemed the boy took after him. The Councilors, Conrad included, had been petitioning the man to marry one of their own daughters so as to improve their standing within the realm and secure their support upon his ascendance. So far he had managed to avoid any out and out promises but the pressure remained to find a wife. He hoped his actions upon ascendancy might lighten that obligation but considering Councilor Conrad's reactions when Nao had explained the preliminaries of his plot he wondered if that would prove true.

Silver Moon Delegation

A resounding cheer broke out, unimpeded, as the full meaning of "printing press" became clear to those in the room. Books were a precious resource on Novrania and now they would have the technology to create untold copies and make them available to every citizen in the land. As the din began to die down, King Corvus spoke to the delegation, "You again have my deepest gratitude, on behalf of my people. Such knowledge is sure to part the seas of ignorance we have been forced to sail for far too long. And such wondrous machinations, surely they will save lives of many, and provide meaning to many lives previously saved. Now it is my turn, is there anything I can do for you? Perhaps you'd wish to discuss it more privately?"

AQUA Delegation

"Formality can be served," King Corvus says to the delegation. He stands from the black stone throne and leads them personally through the door on his left, with the only the younger adviser following. The group is lead through some wooden halls and eventually to a small office. There's a small shelf with cross sections of model ships and a few dusty tomes on wood carving techniques. The chairs are of padded leather, dyed a dark red that seemed to go with the rosy tone of the wooden room. The King sits in one of the six chairs surrounding the circular table and gestures for the others to do likewise. The large, bearded bodyguard follows suit, sitting to the King's left. "I hope this room is private enough..."

Expect a PM shortly.

Triumviral Senators

The circular shape of room played with the echoes and soon the entirety of the space seemed filled with the physical sensation of music. This, coupled with the alien appearance of their guests, first caused some trepidation among the Captains and scriveners, but soon that anxiety was soothed away. For as long as they were willing to play, the kobolds had an enthusiastic audience. Astute observers would notice that many of the scriveners chose not to write anything, understanding that words could never come close to describing this effect for those not present.

When at last the music had ended, and the gifts had been presented, King Corvus stands and says in a quiet voice, "My friends, you have brought such wonder and amazement to our home. I would like to personally extend an invitation to all foreign born persons in this room: Should you ever find yourselves in need of home, safety, or simply change, you are welcome in Novrania. If there is anything you would have of me, all you need do is ask."

King Corvus takes a moment to consider his options when offered the bean, many of his assembled Captains nodding or shaking their heads in the background. Even the advisers seem nervous, but they both elect to say nothing. Seeing the other two men take a bean, Corvus decides to partake as well, and he eats the proffered bean.

"Much thankss to you your Majessty," Senator Sha replied, a smile in her voice.

"We of the Triumvirate have always gotten on well with island nations," Han added, "AQUA, Celero, both fine nations and friends of the Triumvirate both. But, let me delay no longer," Han opened one of the chests that had been brought in revealing a copious amount of...papers?

"These dear King, are the patents and blueprints for some of the most useful and necessary technologies needed for the running of a Kingdom. I invite you and your scriveners and scholars to peruse them at your leisure but I assure you you will almost certainly find them of some significant interest. Included as well are potential contracts, should you wish to sign them, offering the services of some of our trained professionals, the Architects of Woodwind and the Musicians of K'Braashriix, to aid you in developing a good and proper nation within this world should you so desire them. Their Guilds require some amount of payment, and I apologize that not all can be gifts but our professionals have need for quality of life as well which I am sure you can understand."

Gift Techs: Clockwork, Raaneki Diplomacy, Pitch, Plate Armor, Printing Press, Sewage Systems, Zeppelins, Lenses, Calculus, Automota

Trade Offers: K'Braashriix Kobold Musicians for Wood or Medicinal Herbs AND/OR Woodwind Architects for Wood or Medicinal Herbs

My preference for trade is Medicinal Herbs for either of our professional resources and then Wood for the other if you want to do both trades.

The bean was slow to have an effect and without focusing on one's thoughts it might have seemed to be doing nothing but when contemplating the effect it became clear that the mind was thinking in new and different ways, somewhat slower and perhaps with less obvious conclusions or answers being drawn, but it was an interesting way to experience the world. A user might also notice an increase in the humorous qualities of a situation and a desire for food that was greater than average. One bean was enough to at least kick start this reaction, especially for someone who had little to no experience with the mind altering plant.

The Councilor reached into the pile of gifts again and this time removed an oblong object about the size of a fist. Upon closer inspection it appeared to be an egg, pinkish in color with darker red splotches covering it in a random pattern.

"Allow me to offer to you King Corvus an egg of a Gretan Clawling, one of the Consortium's strangest and most interesting creatures. This egg was laid by the Lady Governess' own pet Clawling not three weeks ago and is due to hatch very soon. They make wonderful pets and are as loyal as a good dog. Not to mention their long life. The Lady Governess' own is going on 10 with no signs of slowing down," Councilor Conrad held out the egg for the King to inspect or take as he so chose.

I'm pretty sure they're handwaved no bonus techs that everyone has under the "medival tech" starter clause, yeah. Added the trade to my actions.

Alfmark smiled. "It is both a blessing and a curse of my kingdom that we are separated from the rest of the Imperium by mountains, and the only sea route to the western ocean is many miles north, beyond Fiassa's Fast. Unfortunately, then, travel to almost anywhere is time-consuming and difficult. Nevertheless it is important to welcome new communities to the world, however hard it may be."

He clicked his fingers and waved forward a couple of his retainers. "Please accept these gifts as tokens of our friendship and gratitude for your hospitality."

There was one chest full of books, including a recent history of the Salterri Imperium, collections of legends and histories of the Carmine peoples, a transcription of the Book of Fire, a copy of the Codex of Laws, and an anthology of Jarrland poetry. There was also a cloak, the silk lining dyed in the Jarrland colours of purple and carmine, the outer covered with cloth-of-gold and the whole edged with fur, a very fine hat with a crest of huma feathers, and finally a small chest of jewels and trinkets: matching golden torcs set with quartz, and a delicate silver livery collar comprised of interlinked "C"s.

Nothing that would need to be kept secret. Trade, perhaps; the expanding populations of Valterre and Malkavan are always hungry, and can offer adamus or precious gems, such as those inset into the crown. The gifts of knowledge given, too, include all acquired secrets Bordeux possess, save one: that of the simple clockwork automata invented in Fera. Regrettably, we are bound by oath not to trade or share that technology. There are many others who would be willing to trade or gift it to you, I'm sure, though out of respect to Fera and Niskovia I ask that you at least contact them first.

As above, I'm gifting everything except SCA. I'm also asking for a trade of either Adamus for Fish or Gems for Fish. I don't have a preference to either. Except maybe both, but that's probably a bit much to ask. In case you're wondering, adamus is separate from adamant or adamantine (ie, not granting a battle bonus)(confusing, I know), though it would fulfill a metals requirement.

New Crima Arrives

The sound of string instruments (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TpQBG_W-vdg) could be heard drifting with ever growing strength across the tranquil waters toward Novrania. For those ashore, the song seemed to be coming from the sea glare of the morning sun. Out from the brightness a ship emerged.

She was the first ever galleon designed and constructed by the Cree, The Reckless Abandon. She shared many similarities to Triumvirate design in her basic architecture, but brimmed with cultural touches native only to Crima. The two most instantly recognizable for anyone who'd ever even heard of the region being the unsettling Crest of New Crima waving on every banner, and the intimidating figurehead which depicted a berserk flaming horse with bat wings.

As the galleon pulled into port and the gangplank dropped, the music remained in full swing with a rhythm that compelled heads to bob and feet to tap. On to the dock and into the town danced a band dressed as an honor guard following after an attractive young man riding a handsome brown horse with white speckles. The horse, for its part, seemed to be strutting along with the beat.

The man was in red leather and carried a purple flower with a strong coarse looking stem in his right hand. His silky black-brown hair and smooth wood brown skin seemed almost to sparkle in the morning light.

https://33.media.tumblr.com/4d5ce5aa7daee8ab9ef330e9d8c6e922/tumblr_nd9vmhzi1q1skwqimo1_500.jpg

They met the eyes of each person in their wake with infectious smiles as they paraded down the boardwalk toward King's Fort. Upon reaching the door, in anticipation of being asked to leave his horse behind, the young man sprang from his saddle, somersaulted over his steed's head into a kneeling position at the feet of the gate guards.

As if perfectly timed to this moment, the song reached it's conclusion and the honor guard bowed as well.

“Saikhan Uzesgelent of Tyrant Oluska Geriin's fabulous Bloodknights here to represent the interests and extend the best wishes of Glorious New Crima!” he said with a voice like rich plum served on a bed of black silk.

The gifted technologies elicit a cheer from the crowd of Captains, and many of the brighter ones seem on the edge of their seats in curiosity. "My friends, these gifts are much appreciated. In return, I pledge to exchange bales of medicinal herbs and ships filled with our redwoods for Musicians and Architects, respectively. May we prosper perpetually."

Thank you for the tech. Looking at it now, it seems that the secrets of Printing Press really should have garnered you the excited response, but that's the way with these time traveling events.

Musicians for Herbs, Agreed.

Caercian Delegation

The effects took some time to become apparent to King Corvus, and he made an effort to remain self-contained in front of his Captains. It was somewhat like being brought through a fever without much of the negative side-effects, a rather enjoyable feeling. Once proffered, King Corvus takes the egg fearlessly and smiles at the thing. "My son may adore such a creature. I haven't mentioned him, have I? Little thing, Markus is. He turns out alright and he'll likely be sitting in that throne after me," Corvus says with a small smile. Some of the scriveners look to the advisers as if unsure whether or not they should really document this. A stern nod from the older man returns them to their work.

We've already agreed to it, but I'm putting it here for easy access.

Grain for Wood, Agreed.

If you want to RP it out, that's fine too. Otherwise I am amenable to private discussions as well.

Delegates from the Kingdom of the Carmine Sea

As per usual, the presentation of books brought about an uproarious response from the gathered Captains and scriveners. They only intensified as the physical gifts were presented as well, the gemstones especially. A clamor of questions and pet theories were quickly hushed by King Corvus as he said, "I thank you, deeply, for such splendid gifts. Truly marvelous craftsmanship is on display here, not to mention generosity of freely granting such a wealth of knowledge. Novrania thanks you."

As the crowd quieted, Corvus continued, "My friends, what can I offer you in return for such kindness?"

Hi, everyone else is getting a Spoiler box and I didn't see the need to leave you out. Would you like to trade anything? I have at least one left of each of my three resources.

I do not wish to cause problems for you down the road, as you have been more than generous with your technologies and gifts. So, all your tech aside from Automota, which I have from the Triumvirate. Is there a list somewhere where I can see what I'm getting?

Gems for Fish, Agreed.
Adamus for Fish, Agreed, assuming your people are okay with this.

Bloodknight of New Crima

Such music had never been seen in the streets of Novrania and the crowd loved it. They were cheering and laughing and singing wordless melodies of their own as the procession made it's way forward. At the edge of the musical procession marched Captain Vilien Galbrik, a middle-aged man with weathered features and an easy smile. He was smiling still as the entire city seemed to thrum with music as the procession stopped at the King's Fort. Once Captain Vilien appeared, the guards opened the doors for the Bloodknight, Saikhan Uzesgelent.

After they were brought to a series of suites, Captain Vilien escorted his delegate to the Throne Room. In his rough, salt-worn voice, he said, "I present Saikhan Uzegelent, Bloodknight of New Crima, here on behalf of the Good Tyrant, Oluska Geriin."

The man on the throne stood and said, "I am Corvus Caine, First King of Novrania. I welcome you my home, and wish you find comfort and peace."

Hi, you're getting a spoiler box because everyone else got one. I really like the artwork you put into your posts, it's a great little touch that shows your dedication to the game. Either way, I know you spent all your actions and you can't trade anything, but maybe this will lay the groundwork for future deals, yeah?

Nao looked sideways at Conrad who looked equally surprised, both of them having their surprise amplified by the effects of the bean.

"Your son is named Markus?" Nao asked.

"How wonderful!" Conrad exclaimed, "Markus was the name of the first Lord Protector to rule over Palas Caercia and Palas Ritius as one realm and he is Cassius' father and grandfather!"

"And the name of my now brother," Nao said somewhat quietly.

Conrad seemed to ignore the young man's comment, "I would wager such a name bodes well for the child. It is a strong and respected name in the Caercian Expanse. Perhaps it also speaks to cooperation between our people..." the Councilor trailed off for a moment, "If it is not too much to pry, what do you know of the region known to our people as 'The Far West' where our armies currently fight?"

I'm basically out of actions this round - I guess I could build a trading post if you were up for it, but wouldn't be able to offer you anything in return save a trading post of your own and that's probably not a good use of your time at this point. I might be interested in a trade of Quartz for Medicinal Herbs or even Wood at some point though - perhaps next round at an event, if you have any left by then?

"Indeed it is, I wished to talk with you regarding the Solusian Canal and trade opportunities. As you're no doubt aware the Imperium likes to levy taxes on any who pass through their lands on missions of trade which is one of the reasons the Triumvirate has been hesitant in making trade deals with the Silver Moon's holdings. Solus of course falls on the Sea of the Golden Sun, but such is Alydaxan and while we would trade with Bordeux its resources as so consumed in internal trades it leaves little available. Obviously the new south western holdings of Idinica under Bordeusi control interest us, but again, the Straits and the Imperium's taxation is some manner of concern."

"But now we hear that our old friends Alydaxis are working to build a canal to make the Straits defunct in their control between the Seas, yes? Tell me then, though I know it is a foreign country it is well known Alydaxis follows the will of the Silver Moon and is vassal in all but name, what is it the Silver Moon plans to do with this canal? Will it serve as a free flowing opportunity of trade as the Grand Canal does? I would certainly like to hope so. No doubt the ability to pass through waters without undue taxes would be welcomed by many well-traveled merchants."

The only conditions I have set is the free passage of Silver Moon ships. Beyond that, it is well within Alydaxan rights to tax ships passing through the canal that they have spent time and effort into building. Whether they choose to exercise those rights- that is not a question for me. I will begin export of Indican dyes into Alydaxis, as just compensation, but that is a personal decision. Alydaxis did not request nor require the export. I would expect that will be enough of a compensation for the free use of the canal.

"I imagine the Imeprium might take some issue with the Alydaxan actions though? They have long controlled access between the Golden Sun and the sea of the southwest. If the Alydaxans are willing to allow trade ships to pass through won't that significantly cut into Imperium revenues? Not that I mind incredibly as an unassociated party, but I had hoped to discuss matters of trade with your Kingdom and I would like to know which path shall be the most profitable for Triumviral merchants. If the Solusian Canal is to be cheaper in tax or more expensive I should certainly appreciate knowing that I can inform the merchants should we succeed in striking a deal."

"But of course, it would be Alydaxan law that dictated such," Han said with a smile, "Though I had thought they were more bound to the Silver Moon and its laws given their willingness to absolve their long standing Kingdom to facilitate the easier transition to vassalage but perhaps I overestimated the power held by the Silver Moon in that union."

Make no mistake, Alydaxis is a most loyal follower. Though I suppose I have not really asserted my authority much, and neither did my mother. Yes, they have. Arrangements have been made as compensation. As it stands, I expect it would be cheaper; of course, the canal isn't finished yet. I doubt Alydaxis would tax a trading partner of Bordeux; certainly not their long-time allies the Triumvirate. Of course, recent thievery on your part certainly won't help.

A slight cough came from beside the pair, and one of the king's sons - the one with the gloves and high collar - stood there. "Please forgive my rudeness, gentlemen, for I did not mean to eavesdrop, but having overheard your conversation I thought it should be more polite to disclose my having done so rather than scurry off in secrecy. As a representative of the Imperium, however, I might be in a position to shed some more light on the Qzarina's position as I understand it."

He nodded to Han. "It would indeed be a shame to lose the Bordeusi trade through the Straits, though the financial blow would be far from crippling. It is of some concern that neutral shipping might choose to use the canal rather than the Straits, though I should imagine if the crowns of Alydaxis and the Silver Moon are to have any hope of recovering their investment the tariffs would have to be set so high the Straits would probably be preferable to most traders in any case, to say nothing of the cost of maintenance. Any time saved is likely to be measured in days at most, not weeks, and for most cargo that will be of little significance. Besides, tariffs at the Straits can always be adjusted to account for competition.

"Indeed, such is the cost of building this canal, the likely savings so small, and any financial windfall so so distant, that the Imperium is less concerned with the trading applications of the canal and more its military potential. The economics of the situation are debatable and in years to come it might be seen as a visionary project or a folly, so our fear is that in order for the western crowns to invest so heavily in it it can only be intended as an avenue for attack.

"I understand however negotiations have been conducted on that basis, and I admit that this long period aboard ship means I am slightly less well-versed in the present diplomatic intricacies than I might be."

"Thievery?" Han asked, genuinely confused, "I must admit being confused as to what you are referring My Lady?"

*Snip*

"Ah, your lordship," Han bowed, "Indeed, I have wondered why the canal was being built myself, which partly led to my avenue of questioning. The Triumvirate was lucky to inherit the Grand Canal which had largely been bankrolled, and subsequently bankrupted, the territories of Grmanhil and to have received much aid in its construction so perhaps our view on recouping losses involved are skewed. Though, the good Lady has just informed me that she suspects the Alydaxans to handle taxation lightly so I wonder whether practicality or goodwill shall win out."

As I said. Negotiations have been made. At present, the Qzarina seemed satisfied with our agreement. Though she has yet to act upon it, I'll note.

Triumvirate
I've heard tell form the few supporters I yet retain in Ri Chūgǎng of a variety of ships, some from Guilder, some from the Triumvirate. Of course, I cannot yet say that they act on the orders of yours or Guilder's government, but I do know that many critical notes from the inventors of Ri Chūgǎng medicine have gone conspicuously missing.

"Oh! Of course!" Han laughed, "I had not imagined our efforts to secure such a valuable and important technology for the health and benefit of the people that might otherwise be lost to the chaos of the Far West to be taken as an aggressive move, but I suppose it might well be. Rest assured My Lady, the Triumvirate plans to share any secrets recovered from the West with any nation that cares for the health of its people, your own included."

"The health and benefit of the people is important to the Triumvirate, regardless of national borders, it isn't as though the lands are not plentiful enough to allow greater populations."

"True. With arranged marriages you have the common interest of the families to keep you together. With AQUA, occasional dalliances are common and accepted. Others are more stringent about monogamy."

He turned to look at Nao. "If you love someone, things will work themselves out."

"Every married man and woman knows one cannot be expected to remain with their duty bound other when the calls of lust still linger. Better to satisfy one's desires and maintain a healthy partnership than strain such a bond with unfulfilled desires," the Councilor agreed.

Nao smiled an appreciative smile but his eyes betrayed disbelief in the Skipper's statement.

"Skipper, I am curious, yours is the one who uncovered Novrania hiding from the greater world, no? It seems those of AQUA have a propensity for exploration, is it possible to hire your explorers or are they strictly a national entity?"

Wayve smiled at the brashness of the Captain King.

"In due time, we may, if relations between our two nations grow more and more tight. I am sure, even with the huge distance that seperates us, that we both have what the other needs, if not now then in a point in the future. However, I might have an offer of interest to you. Do you have time to discuss our common interests when you are done with the introductory meetings, King Corvus?"

I see you need metals, of which I have plenty. I have Lead or Iron available and if possible would like to trade Medicinal herbs for one of them.

Nearby Councilor Conrad Wulfen....

After doing bussiness with King Raven (the name Wayve gave him in his head), his eye fell upon the Caercian Councilor, which he immediately saw as an opportunity to inquire about his nephew, Marevain Earthguard, who was the subject to some nasty rumours while doing his duties in Caercian lands far away from Kasumor. Approaching him with a swift gait, he politely nodded at the representative.

"Good day, Counsilor. I couldn't help myself to approach you and yours, for I am worried about my kin residing in your lands. He is a nobleman in charge of the province called Minotron and goes by the name of Marevain Earthguard. I have heard some quite disturbing rumours as of late, and as the worried uncle that I am, I wondered if you could tell me some more, if you so please?"

Andus was glad for a change of subject, "AQUA has no desire for rulership beyond its homelands. We explore because it is our nature. When we found the Sea of Glass, we welcomed the Pono al a Ono into our council. Later, we realized Celero was better suited to development. Celero now nominally controls the islands, yet Councilor Gonzo the Great sits on our council still, and we control both trading posts on the islands. We maintain control over the Bloomewald Isle we discovered because of the dangers those islands pose. And here, in Novrania, we offer assistance and friendship to a populace ready to expand on their own." Andus finished proudly

Then he caught himself, and continued more reservedly, "That was a bit long winded. My apologies. AQUA is always willing to allow others to develop the lands they find, in exchange for long term trading rights."

"A fair enough exchange for the service," the Councilor nodded, "I believe we may be in need of capable explorers soon enough. The Far West is largely unknown to us and being as the Consortium is in negotiations with the Qzarina to be returned to controlling Nan Hai it would serve us well to have explorers seek for shores south of the province. I shall be needing to speak with the Senior Lord Protector, but it may well be your services are requested sooner or later. Perhaps you shall have more luck in finding regions with actual inhabitants." the Councilor added with a wry smile.

"Then for the mutual benefit to all our peoples, let us make the deal," Corvus replied. His fears of offending his guests were assuaged and he was eager to have his smiths start working with the mysterious metal. Perhaps he would put some prohibitions on the craft, however, so as not to show disdain for its importance. No adamus nails or hinges, for sure. Only finer fates for such a fine metal. "With such business now agreed upon, is there anything else we may do for you, as hosts?"

Okay, trade is accepted.

Caercian Delegation

"To Markus!" Corvus says with an edge of pride in his voice. He grins a bit overmuch and his voice is a little louder than needed, but no one in the room can really begrudge the man who's newly a father. When the topic of the Western lands arises, Corvus replies, "Little and less, I'm afraid. Our introduction to the world at large, has come from a very out of date library. The latest pages I could decipher mention the rise of a Duumkon Dy-amis, if that even makes any sense."

Triumviral Senators

"And thank you, dear ambassadors, for your gifts and your presence," King Corvus says as all the Captains rise to their feet. Many of them nod respectfully to the dignitaries, some even bow. Mostly, the mood seems to be one of gratitude and respect.

Delegates from the Kingdom of the Carmine Sea

"Certainly, but I fear it may simply become a lesson taught from a wiser King to a newer one," King Corvus replied with a smile. There was much that he could learn from this man, and his fellow delegates, but it was entirely possible for him to cross some unknown line by accident and he had to be careful. "With respect to you, King Alfmark, perhaps we should make plans to meet again in the future, when I have a little less to learn."

I don't feel like I can really convey it IC, but Corvus is afraid of being influenced by the powers that are and a private chat with someone with so many titles has him on edge. He doesn't want to really convey that King Alfmark is teaching him how to rule his own nation and that's just a subtext that he needs to avoid. A future meeting would be great. As for Trade Posts, not just yet, please. And for Quartz... that only really affects Lenses, which I have now... So it's good, but what would really be great is Paper or Papyrus or Books. Novranians will definitely be needing those now that they have a Printing Press.

Huroshan Delegation

"Of course, of course. If you'll come with me," King Corvus says as he steps down from the throne and leads them personally through the door on his left, with the only the younger adviser following.

Iron for Medicinal Herbs, Agreed.

Anything private can be said through PMs, or here if you insist.

"A Northern tale, mostly fictional I believe. In any event, largely irrelevant to matters in this sphere of the world. But do not fear your lack of knowledge, we of Palas Caercia have only in the latest generation become more than a regional power scraping by and the Far West, despite hosting our soldiers, is a mystery to us as well. I was simply curious whether your proximity had lent you any insight on the matter."

"You see, we of the Consortium are always on the lookout for knowledgeable sorts with a knack for leadership, a knack I'd dare wager you possess. And given your location geographically, well," Conrad paused, "Do keep in mind that the Consortium is generous in wealth both land and coin to those who are loyal friends. A trait shared by the entirety of the Salterri Imperium, my own nation's great and kindly liege-lord."

The Councilor let the unspoken offer hang in the air a moment.

"But we discuss politics too long and dull the festivity of this day. Allow us to take our part, should the Lord Protector have no more to say?"

"Nothing but to thank you King Corvus for your hospitality and invitation," Nao said, with a genuine smile.

"A sentiment I shall echo, thank you Your Majesty, for allowing ours to stay. May the wind ride at your back forevermore."

The Councilor bowed and the Lord Protector nodded a respectful depth and the Caercian delegation made to depart the King.

At the unspoken offer, King Corvus smiles warmly but shakes his head. Novrania was still new to the world and he needed to ensure that he knew more about said world before making such a decision. As their guests turned to leave, Corvus replied, "And may the seas see you safely home."

Thanks for coming out. Feel free to RP among the other delegations as you wish. Try not to kill anyone, nor get killed. That'd be a bummer.

I should look forward to a conversation at a later date."

That's fine. I have Papyrus but I'm at 6/6 for trading, although a trading-post for it wouldn't be impossible. Unfortunately most of my resources are spoken for.

The man on the throne stood and said, "I am Corvus Caine, First King of Novrania. I welcome you my home, and wish you find comfort and peace."

Saikhan knelt and gently laid his rose on the floor in front of him.

With a practiced smile he said,
“New Crima gladly accepts your welcome and good wishes. When the Good Tyrant heard your nation was at last prepared to enter the world stage she was much pleased. It is my mission to offer you a hand in friendship.”

One of the Bloodknight's entourage stepped forward and placed a large embroidered leather bota bag into Saikhan's hands. He then held it up and forward toward the King.

This! This is Airag! On a base level it is our native liquor, but its cultural significance is great. Airag refreshens and sparkles softly on the tongue. The taste is slightly sour, but quite agreeable to the strong spirited. It offers many benefits to the body's good health. All of these things are meaningless next to its power to bind people in common fellowship!

For Airag is never to be imbibed alone. A bowl is poured and passed around the room to the lips of each member of the family and each honored guest. The bowl is passed until empty. In times of plenty and celebration the bowl is filled again.

The Good Tyrant regrets that she could not be here to share a bowl with you and yours, but as a member of her most loyal and decorated legion, she has sent me as her proxy. Will you share Airag with the Tyrant oh King? Might our nations be bound by fellowship as mutual stewards of The Seas?”

Thanks! I'm glad to hear people like the drawings! Even though I don't have the actions to spend on accomplishing any crunch, the Tyrant is trying to spread legitimacy and influence whenever and however she can, so she wanted to at least make a show of good faith.

Sorry for taking so long to get out this reply.

"Your patience is much appreciated, King Alfmark," Corvus responds. "If I may be so honest, I feel barely a King at all and find myself referring to my life as a Captain for guidance. And although there are many different forms and practices between Captains, I do not think my methods much different than the next man." There was a round of polite laughter and a few disbelieving remarks tossed around in good faith after that. Although King Corvus may declare that he's no more than a Captain to a foreign King with many titles, his people believe him to be the best possible Captain Novrania has to offer.

Bloodknight of New Crima

As the fancy knight made his purpose clear, the elder adviser coughed lightly into his fist. King Corvus caught the old man's eye, but no words were exchanged. Instead the King stepped down from his raised throne and said, "In honor of the seas that connect us all, let us drink." He takes the bowl when offered and has a generous gulp before passing it back to the knight.

Saikhan took a drink in his turn and passed it to the Creefolk on either side of him, who each took a drink in their turn. With one final draft remaining the Criman soldier waited for an indication as to whom should receive the bowel next among those gathered in the hall.

King Corvus beckons his younger adviser to partake in the ritual and explains, "Drake Nasheel, my second in command since before I became King. If any Captain feels they're more deserving to drink from the bowl, speak quickly." The silence in the room was broken only by the sound of scratching pens and quiet gulping as the man with the ferocious beard drank beside his king. He passed the bowl back to the knight with a quiet word of thanks and resumed his post beside the throne.

"Saikhan, I bid you and yours welcome here in Novrania. May you return home with only joyous stories to tell and may the truth behind them be enough. Thank you for coming to our Island."
