"I got kidnapped by a girl I've been seeing"

"I had to go skype a friend"

"My girlfriend gave me ebola"

"A party got started at my house"

"I went to Yaoi-Con"

"Steve said he had to get milk."
"He's five hours late."
"Well, you know how sometimes you get one of those shopping carts that just won't go in straight line..."

"I can't come because meteors are outside." Granted it was about two weeks after the event in russia in 2013 but still.
"The FBI is investigating me."
Are probably the best of the best as far as my group goes and most recent. But few others like.

"My grandma is not letting me come over because she thinks its satanic."
"I have to do laundry!" Was our friends excuse to not show up or go anywhere so was humorous to us at least.

Mine has been "toothache."

Which, when DMing, would've turned into "You look up as you exit the dungeon and see a cluster of Daishis dropping on you. Roll initiative."

" You now I've been feeling short of breath and with chest pains. Well it turns out I fractured my sternum and the doctor has ordered me to hospital "

(On the other hand once a player informed me he had his university course's final exam the day after the game. He wasn't telling me that to get out of the game, he still came, he was just making conversation )

"I broke my neck."

2014-10-06, 08:26 PM
"Ran into a van." (OK, that one was for a WoW meetup, but it made a funny story at his wedding a few years later)

"Wasn't sure game was actually happening because I didn't get a text back when I asked."

"People's bad planning has become my problem." (Ok, actually it was basically "crunch time at work", but I think that was what he MEANT)

"Wasn't sure game was actually happening because I didn't get a text back when I asked."

Guilty and sometimes it was more like "You didn't send a email this week about the game so I thought there wasn't one"

"I caught a cold and I'm the type that does not share the wealth."

I think the weirdest reason that a friend ever gave for showing up late was that he fell asleep in the shower...I think he was serious too.

"I'm busy that specific day" for every occasion for over a year.

If you don't wanna play, just say so man.

"All the roads between me and where the game is are underwater" - not actually made up, there was some pretty severe flooding going on.

2014-10-07, 11:28 AM
I believe one i used is actually one you don't hear very often.

-"Sry guys, i forgot my sister is having her wedding today"

At least it wasn't mine wedding :smallcool:

"I'm busy that specific day" for every occasion for over a year.

If you don't wanna play, just say so man.

...you kept asking him, for over a year?

2014-10-07, 04:42 PM
I forgot it was Sunday, as in what day it was, not when the game was scheduled.

'I have to take my dog to the vet.'

Every week for about four weeks running. Then we stopped asking him. And he stopped coming, and instead went online to trash-talk the gaming group for being 'inhospitable' and 'clique-y'.

"I went to Yaoi-Con"

As the DM of that game, I would just like to step in and state that this actually happened and I'm still in shock from it.

"What do you mean it's 2:00, I'll get there at 12:00"
(I had done an mtg midnight release just before and the call woke me up)

2014-11-18, 02:59 PM
"I went fishing."

2014-12-17, 10:26 PM
The best one for me was over winter break one year.
"Sorry man, my girlfriends going on vacation so this is the last time over the break I'll be able to see her"...

... then a week later (still during the break) his excuse was "Sorry man I'm hanging out with my girlfriend tomorrow"

"I suddenly got group work." which is then followed up by everyone backing out and rescheduling. Rinse and repeat.
