First of all, the thread that got me to fall in love with the whole inquisitor idea is here (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?370221-5e-Homebrew-The-Inquisitor)
Anyway, group projects, when they don't flop their great, so let's give one of the coolest class ideas in my not-so humble opinion (I'm pretty arrogant)
As always we are going for a mid tier 3 class. I like to think of the basis of this class being similar to a ranger, but where a ranger uses druidic magic, and inquisitor uses clerical. (So a Inquisitor is to a cleric as a ranger is to a druid)
And let's try to avoid "favored enemy syndrome" that is to say, ranger's are great against there favored enemy, and can justify the less optimal fighting styles that they're forced into when against them, but are just straight up mediocre against anything other the their FE.
Additional let's hope for no dead levels and a cool capstone.

------------------------------
The Inquisitor
Fluff: Inquisitors dedicate themselves to a cause or a deity. They go under the saying "To the ends, by any means". Whether in golden clad armor or simple robes, the Inquisitor seems to always have something on hand to make the tides flow their way. A paragon Inquisitor represents the true meaning of the cause or god, more so than a Cleric or Druid or such. These warriors are not necessarily divine, but have an aura radiating their cause.
Hit Dice:
Ability Scores: Strength or dexterity is important to the inquisitor depending on whether they chose to fight melee or ranged. Wisdom is very important to an inquisitor, and they may benefit from a high constitution score.
Class Skills
The Inquisitor’s class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are
Climb (Str), Craft (Int), Diplomacy (Cha), Intimidate (Cha),
Jump (Str), Listen (Wis), Ride (Dex),Speak Language, Survival (Wis), and Swim (Str).
See Chapter 4: Skills for skill descriptions.
