Welcome to...
Iron Avatarist

This Iron Avatarist contest will be judged by

(Ego Slayer/Vorpal Tribble/Hawkeye/Roland/Dark Corax)
(Final lineup subject to change - If any of you want to draw instead just let me know!)

This week's theme is...
Military Dress

That's right! You will be drawing avatars (in the OotS style) of figures in military costume. Whether it's battle fatigues or mess dress or something in between, it can come from any time period or location. Do make it a take on an actual military costume of some sort (and not just characters with weapons). On the one hand, we're not a historical society here; on the other hand, we're looking for more than just folks dressed up for battle (if that were the contest we'd have most of the avatars on the site posted here!)

Oh, and make sure to dress up OotS characters, too!

And, of course, there is going to be a First through Third place of the following:

Best Avatar
Best Group (>1 Being = Group)
Best OotS Character as...
Best OotS Group (>1 Being = Group)
Best Erfworld-style Avatar

And, of course, the Best Overall award.

As usual, I'll be giving the medal of honor-esque Roland’s Choice Award to the avatarist's creation that most appeals to my, admittedly conduct unbecoming, sensibilities.

Every entry must include a bolded introduction as to what category you are trying to enter in.

Every entry must include a bolded introduction as to what your entry is.

For example:
Best Avatar
British Naval Captain
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b259/RolandStJ/Roland_Pirate.gif
(Image by ChrisThePontifex - taken out of context, so any historical inaccuracy is my fault.)

Only the avatarist who created the avatar may submit it.
However, you may submit old creations as long as they have never been entered into an Iron Avatar Thread before. It does not have to be something made specifically for this thread.

All entries must be completed by April 15th at Noon Eastern Standard Time.

No, but they should be uniforms/costumes from an organized military (real or fictional).

Comrade Zebra has two notes:

The avatar is named after one of the main characters of Call of Duty 2. Although inspired by, he is not Vasili as presented there, etc., so... he's different.

Secondly, there are 3 or 4 historical errors in the picture that I know of. I'll let you find them if you want, but aside from the dagger (I don't think a Private would have that, but it looks rather cool), they aren't glaringly obvious.

It isn't much of a stretch that a soldier have his own dagger.

As for the two inaccuracies, I'll guess the dogfight and the fact that the mortar on the bricks near the sniper has inexplicably reverted to liquid, although that might just be due to shoddy Communist engineering.

No, but the pommel looked fancy, like something you'd find on an officer. I suppose he could find one, but he wouldn't have been issued it.

Actually, the things I was thinking of were: a. the Russian plane should have a rear gunner (it was supposed to be an Il-2 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ilyushin_Il-2)) but I figured it was such a small detail that it wasn't worth the effort to go and edit it back in once I was looking at the finished product, b. the German plane (BF-109E (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bf-109)) and the banners on the second rear building are noticeably devoid of the swastika for the purposes of not offending anyone, c. I don't think there were actual red stars on the helmets, although I'm not certain (if your interested, this (http://www.d-9models.co.uk/images/models/IT6069.jpg) was my reference picture), and d. I didn't have a good reference picture for the German paint job, so I 'winterized' an Afrika Korps camouflage.

As to the mortar... there's a pile of what was supposed to be powder, smashed bricks, etc. that he's laying on, and then there's the snow, which looks kinda liquidy.

@^ Agreed on both counts.

Please display your works in 117' x 117' or at least at a size that doesn't stretch the screen. Also, don't hide anything you want judged in spoiler boxes; it just makes it that much harder for the judges to compare things.

P.S. When the page loads, it loads everything including what is contained in spoilers. So large images, even in spoiler boxes, really slows things down. Thanks!

I have a bunch of friends who made their own X-Wing pilot costumes, including chestboxes and helmets. One chick even has a car that's painted like an X-Wing.
