The "D4 or D12" thread kind of got me thinking of it, rather than gank another thread, let's just talk about it here, and throw in a poll, just for kicks!

So here it is, what's your favorite die?

I rather like my d5.

The D10 for sure. Two of them can do so many things. They roll for HPs, Dmg and %. I also used them to track my life in Magic: The Gathering. Oh yeah, and Vampire, nuff said.

If you allow custom dice then it would be d13 - my lucky number.

d12s make great tops and awesome ammo for throwing at people since I barely use them otherwise.

Of the options provided, the d20, but really I like the d30 the bestest!

I roll to hit....Yeah! I got a 27, before adding modifiers!

What about the D12? or the D14? or the D16?! Nooooooooo!!!!!!!!!! We're gonna die without those vital dice?!

Okay...I'm done...I'd have to say the D20...when it actually likes me....last week my D20 rolled ten 2's in a row.

Hey! I only got 5 options for the poll, talk to whoever is running this show if you wanted more.

By the way, I voted for the D20, it really is the most important, and it is the ultimate power in the D&D game, within it's perfectly matching faces and stout geometric figure, all of our fates rest.

What? No love for the d6 folks? Doesn't anyone play rogues, or wizards? Isn't there something glorious about grabbing up a handful of those little guys and scattering them across the rolling surface of your choice for a fireball or some sneak attack damage?

I have a friend who has the d20 of Dominance. It's bigger than a fist, and weighs several pounds. All you have to do is threaten to throw your d20 across the table. Go d20!!

As for custom dice, I rather enjoy my d(randInt 1,x) where x is the number of sides. Is it obvious that I'm a math geek?

D4 for me. Spell damage, wizard hit points, and caltrop all in one.

D4 is my favorite type of dice. My actual favorite die is my Chessex royal blue scarab d20 which averages out at 11.98 and has a 9.61% of rolling a natural 20. (Results are compiled from 1,000 consecutive documented rolls.)

... you documented 1000 consecutive rolls?

I'm with D10 as I play Vampire: The Requiem, so each player has 15 D10.

They're so nice, especially when the successes are painted in silver.... the nice big 0 so you know that... Oh yes!!!! REROLL!!!!!

Yes. I was bored and I was curious whether it really rolled well or if it was just a figment of my imagination. (I didn't do them all in one sitting, though)

DaMullet

Well, they weren't bloody consecutive, now were they?

Galathir

Well, I was referring to the fact that I wasn't picking or choosing which rolls to count, and the fact that I wasn't doing anything else with the die between rolls. I actually rolled a few hundred, read a book, rolled a few more, checked my email, rolled a few more, etc. You're right, I didn't have exactly the same amount of time between each roll, but I didn't expect that to affect the rolls in any way, shape, or form.

Your dmom.

My mom is dead!

UglyPanda : That's not cool, my brother died that way

I chose d4, because they are caltrops!

(Note neither my mother nor brother are dead, it's just the best comeback to any "your mom" and I wanted to use another dead joke.)

D8! It earns my love for being the most reliable dice when I roll it. Plus, it's great to stack dice with.

d6's are great, but I prefer my d8.

I have bent it to my will.

Hm, that's hard to say.

Ultimately, I think I'm most fond of d10s, because I play White Wolf, and White Wolf is awesome. While the d10 is the only D&D-die that isn't a Platonic solid, it's decimal, which is nice and sensible. Unfortunately, I don't tend to play fighters (except in gestalt, where I can pair 'em with a class that actually gets skill points), so I only get to use 'em if I'm playing a character that uses a bastard sword.

As far as my usual D&D play-style is concerned, I think my d6s see the most use. I tend to play rogues (sometimes bards), and rapiers with their 18-20 threat range make me happy. Also, sneak attack FTW. However, I'm not really a fan of the d6 aesthetically. Polyhedra other than cubes are prettier, in my opinion. Perhaps I just became inured to them as a result of a childhood full of board games.

I'm rather fond of d8s, both aesthetically and in D&D usage. I've played my share of rangers and scouts (did I mention I <3 scouts?), and the longbow is a lovely, lovely weapon. There's a certain symmetry to the d8 that appeals to me; it might also help that it reminds me a little of a d10.

So... how should I vote? :smallwink:

How gross... my favorite die (d10) got itself associated with the gimped fighter. It's like the V:tM die.

I don't know why, but I've always found the d8 neat in how it has less corners than sides.

For favorites, I'm a bit torn between d6, d8, and d10, leaning toward d6.

A d8 can also pull for a d4. I dislike caltrops and can't read them properly, so d8/2 works fine for me.
