So, yeah. I had an idea the other day, and I wanted to see if people wanted to play.

Gladiator

Every round, players may activate one stance and execute one attack. Attacks are executed as so:
Attacker rolls attack against his target's defense.
If the attack roll exceeds the defense roll, the attack hits.
The attacker then rolls damage.
At the end of the round, all damage is tallied, and everyone makes a vitality roll. If damage exceeds a player's vitality, the player loses a life.
If you lose a life, you cannot act for the rest of the round.
Players with 0 lives are dead. All players start with:
1d6 damage
1d6 attack
1d6 defense
1d6 vitality
3 lives

Players also start with 4 points to customize their character. They may purchase passive skills, stances, special attacks, and special maneuvers with these.

(Whenever an attribute is marked with a '+', this means an increase in die size. If it is marked with a '-', this means a decrease in die size.)

Passive skills: These skills are always active.

Strength: Damage+
Dexterity: Attack+
Agility: Defense+
Constitution: Vitality+

Stances: A player may choose to use one stance each round.

Rush: Player's initiative increases by 1, defense-
Stealth: Player PMs actions to me, instead of posting
Rage: Damage++ defense-
Frenzy: Attack++ vitality-
Power Attack: Damage++ attack-
Combat Expertise: Defense++ attack-
Shield Other: Grants defense++ to one ally
Flank: Grants attack+ to all players who also attack your target
Perfect Clarity: Defense++ vs one opponent (your choice), defense- vs all others

Special Attacks: These skills replace your regular attack. Effects after the slash affect the player.

Javelin: Player's initiative increases by 1 / attack-
Net: Target's initiative decreases by 1 / damage-
Sunder: Target loses 1 attack* if it hits / attack-- (does no damage)
Shield Break: Target loses 1 defense* if it hits / attack-- (does no damage)
Impale: Target loses 1 vitality* if it hits / attack--
Weakening Strike: Target loses 1 damage* if it hits / attack--
Stunning Strike: Target cannot act for 1 round if it hits / damage--
Counterattack: Attack first person who attacks you / attack+ damage+
Whirlwind Attack: Attack all who attack you
Two-Weapon Fighting: Attack twice / attack-
Leap Attack: / attack+ damage+ defense--

*permanent

Special maneuvers: You cannot activate a stance or attack in a round where you use any of these.

Repair: Restore target's permanent attack and defense damage by 1
First Aid: Restore target's permanent damage and vitality damage by 1
Taunt: Target must attack you next round, but takes defense- for 1 round

Temporary effects (such as those granted by stances) do not stack. Permanent effects do.

All attacks happen simultaneously (unless initiative-modified), and all actions must be posted here (unless you are using Stealth). Up to 1 change may be taken, in either case.

Dice stacking goes like: 1d2 - 1d4 - 1d6 - 1d8 - 1d10 - 1d12 - 1d14 - 1d16... and so on. Yeah, yeah, they don't really exist.

So, how about it? Does anyone want to play?

People who want to play:

Hmm but theres another build I kinda want to try... oh well

assuming that your ++ and + are supposed to show what your rage would do, then your incorrect, rage decreases defense, and does not affect attack. Course I could be wrong on what your little +'s mean.

@V but then why do you have d10 attack and d8 vitality, you already spent your points on those... me is confused

Raging Hippo bullrush attack!

@V but then why do you have d10 attack and d8 vitality, you already spent your points on those... me is confused

Nah, you were right, I was confused over what the standard was. Sorry.

To clarify for Abardam, ++ on Damage. + on attack. Rage stance.

Which leaves me on 1d10 damage and 1d8 attack I think before rage stance.

A small, but well muscled, gladiator steps into the ring, he holds a short sword in one hand and a net in the other, adopting a stance with his sword to put maximum power into his attack. He slowly gives a cold look around at his enemies, ready to kill or be killed. He sees Gezina ready to counter attack his opponents. He mutters to himself ugh I hate that counterattack cheese as he flings his net at Gezina, hoping to capture the opponent and run them through.

I thought we like rolled initiative... because otherwise what the heck does my net do?..

And also its seeming like net doesn't do anything but good for your enemy... well unless I kill them with it and they had counterattack, and so they die before they get their counterattack in.

So yeah, net has balance issues, and IMO so does counter attack, but whatever...

Also, powerattack net attack on silkenfist.

Before main attack stage:
People who took rush and Javelin (no one)

Main attack stage:
People with no initiative modifiers

After attack stage:
Netted people

Of course, the main attack stage also consists of netted people who have rush or javelin. Vitality is rolled after each stage, so take the example of a Netted gladiator:
A Rushing gladiator attacks him for 2 damage. After that stage, however, he survives.
Three other people attack him on the main stage for 1 damage apiece, meaning he must roll against 5. He fails, losing a life and his action (but not his stance).

Your counterattack example wouldn't work unless said counterattacker was already netted and you weren't, or you were using Rush+Net.

Round 2 ends tomorrow, and I still need 4 more actions.

Zar Peter Frenziedly attacks Castaras ([roll0]vs[roll1]); if he hits, he will deal [roll2] damage.
Eldritch Knight attacks Zar Peter ([roll3]vs[roll4]), dealing [roll5] damage if he hits.
Castaras activates Combat Expertise and attacks Zar Peter ([roll6]vs[roll7]), dealing [roll8] damage if she hits.
Selrahc Rages and attacks Silkenfist ([roll9]vs[roll10]); if he hits, he will deal [roll11] damage.
Inky Power Nets Silkenfist ([roll12]vs[roll13]), and if he hits, he will deal [roll14] damage and Silkenfist will be Netted, attacking at a lowered initiative.
Silkenfist, using Combat Expertise, attempts to strike Selrahc ([roll15]vs[roll16]) and Inky ([roll17]vs[roll18]); if he hits, he will deal [roll19] damage.
Lucid Archon Rages and smashes Zar Peter ([roll20]vs[roll21]) and if he hits, he will strike for [roll22] damage.
Warpfire takes revenge and Power Attacks Lucid Archon ([roll23]vs[roll24]), and if he hits, he will deal [roll25] damage.
Someone attacks Warpfire ([roll26]vs[roll27]), if he hits, he will deal [roll28] damage.
Someone else also attacks Warpfire ([roll29]vs[roll30]), if he hits, he will also deal [roll31] damage.

Power (non net) attack on silkenfist, might as well take advantage of your slowness...

The dark warrior, finally strikes true with his net, slowing down his silken opponent.he drags him over Powerfully stabbing down at him with his Gladius. Combat Expertise and Whirlwind Defense once again.

The Silken warrior upon being entangled crouches down and clutches the blade against his body to both prevent him from being struck and the weapon from being caught in the net. Briefly forgetting about his training to be graceful and stoic in combat, he mutters curses concerning inky's parentage and unfavorable comparisons between him and small rodents. He pauses for one moment as he realizes how accurate these analogies seem. The sight of inky's blade being struck down on him forces him to abandon that thought, though. He shifts his body under the net to deflect the strike with his blade while grappling the meshes with his feet to pull the net away and start counterattacking.

The Dark gladiator slowly circles his battered opponent. The Silken warrior continues his whirling calculated defensive spin. It was a fine tactic, but it had not managed to keep him alive against the onslaught of the others. You have fought well, but i'm afraid it is time for you to die. And with that he charges forward swinging his sword down in a powerful arc of deadly steel, slashing aside the defenses laid out by his opponents sword as the net slows down the Silken warrior just enough that his opponent can get in a slash before a retaliation.

Round 15
Main Phase
Someone turns to attack Castaras ([roll0]vs[roll1]), [roll2]...
But finds that both his target ([roll3]vs[roll4]), [roll5] and Inky ([roll6]vs[roll7]), [roll8] are waiting for him!
Slowed Phase
Eldritch Knight uses his Counterattack to drive off the Inactivity Lions.

Abardam

Bah. Inky and Castaras tag-team Heretic, but nobody hits, again.

Power net attack Heretic, to avoid the sla****y death that awaits me if I run into EK's counter attack.

Round 16
Main Phase
Inky is attacked! ([roll0]vs[roll1]) If he is hit, he takes [roll2] damage.
But he is waiting, and he manages to get off an attack ([roll3]vs[roll4]), for [roll5].
Castaras, too, joins in ([roll6]vs[roll7]), striking for [roll8].
Post-Main Phase Phase
Eldritch Knight stands around.

Abardam

Vitality rolls
Inky: 5 vs [roll0]
Heretic: 6 vs [roll1]

Remember, folks, both of these guys are at 1 life!

Defying the odds, Heretic survives the dual onslaught and manages to take down Inky, who is-or was-the biggest damage dealer (after Lucid Archon), as well as having the net. What will happen next? Will the battle be reduced to Heretic and Castaras trying to hit each other, again? Will someone attack Eldritch Knight? Stay tuned!

Abardam
2007-05-03, 04:27 AM
Well, I wish I had a good excuse for why the update is late, other than 'I forgot.' Anyway...

Round 16
Main Phase
Someone attacks Castaras (sigh, [roll0]vs[roll1]) for [roll2].
Castaras in turn uses CE and attacks EK ([roll3]vs[roll4]) for [roll5].
Mauled Phase
EK is mauled by lions for just standing there. -1 life.

Damage roll:
Eldritch Knight: 4 vs [roll0]

Abardam
2007-05-03, 04:33 AM
So apparently Eldritch Knight loses the will to keep fighting, and takes double damage from Castaras and the lions. And is killed. Also Heretic is mega-blocked.

Castaras
2007-05-03, 09:43 AM
So it begins...Heretic, let us battle it out!

Taking a gamble...I'm just going to attack him.

Round 17

In an unprecedented event, Castaras throws caution to the winds and attacks Heretic without using her favored stance ([roll0]vs[roll1]), striking for [roll2] if she hits.
And Heretic isn't going down without a fight ([roll3]vs[roll4]), for [roll5] if he hits.

Hmm...I'll take the gamble again and just attack Heretic. Fingers crossed...

inky13112
2007-05-05, 01:44 PM
To s[peed things along we could make like 3 attacks per round now... If the contestants agreed to it.

heretic
2007-05-05, 02:00 PM
Or he could update the thread as soon as he receives both actions. He has both of ours now, so there's nothing to stop him.

Castaras
2007-05-05, 02:00 PM
Except whether he is online or not, of course.

heretic
2007-05-05, 02:01 PM
True. I meant as soon as he logged in.

Castaras
2007-05-05, 02:08 PM
Yeah.

May the best fighter win, Heretic. :smallamused:

heretic
2007-05-05, 02:09 PM
I certainly hope not, since you're the best fighter...

Remember, I used half the normal number of points when building my stats. :smalleek:

Castaras
2007-05-05, 02:14 PM
Ah yes, because you came in late, didn't you?

Well, maybe late will beat full pointed...you never know...

heretic
2007-05-05, 02:17 PM
True, the dice could favor me this battle...

Unlike my last game of 40K...grrrrr...

If there's any balance to this universe at all, karma will grant me the luck of the gods.

Castaras
2007-05-05, 02:24 PM
Well, currently I'm in a better situation...but that's probably because the dice love me, and kept me at high defence...But you have a better chance of hitting me than I hitting you...

heretic
2007-05-05, 02:31 PM
I thought we were equal in attack to defense ratios. And then you have more vitality.

Castaras
2007-05-05, 02:33 PM
You have more attack than me, but if I don't use combat Expertise we're sorta equal...I think...

*Goes to check stats.*
Heretic
1d6 damage
1d8 attack
1d6 defense
1d6 vitality
A Dextrous and Stealthy gladiator.

Castaras
1d6 damage
1d6 attack
1d8 defense (1 point)
1d10 vitality (2 points)

Combat Expertise (1 point)

Going to be an interesting battle...

Abardam
2007-05-05, 10:55 PM
Or he could update the thread as soon as he receives both actions. He has both of ours now, so there's nothing to stop him.

Good idea. Implemented starting now.

Round 18

Castaras attacks Heretic! If she hits, ([roll0]vs[roll1]), she will deal [roll2] damage!
Heretic strikes back! If he hits ([roll3]vs[roll4]), he will deal [roll5] damage!

((Hopefully we'll see some action...))

Abardam
2007-05-05, 10:57 PM
Bah. Your defenses are too good.

Next round on: Tuesday, 2:00 AM GMT, or when I have both of your actions, whichever is sooner.

Castaras
2007-05-06, 01:24 AM
Right.

ATTTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK! Heretic.

Vampiric

Castaras
2007-05-06, 05:31 AM
(( Restart probably, after me or Heretic kills the other. Currently, it's just us two though. ))

Eldritch Knight
2007-05-06, 12:01 PM
Actually, I was attending a wedding where I was a groomsman, and was without internet access until now. Oh well.

Abardam
2007-05-06, 01:03 PM
Well, I was talking about the fact that you got double ones.

Anyway, since Heretic sent his in... ((you know, Heretic, you can just post in the thread...))

Round 19

Castaras has a go at Heretic ([roll0]vs[roll1]), who attacks Castaras ([roll2]vs[roll3]). Damage: [roll4], and [roll5], respectively.

Castaras
2007-05-06, 01:04 PM
OMG.

Come ONNN! Can't we hit already?!

heretic
2007-05-06, 02:21 PM
Sneaky sneaky me. I attack Castaras.

That's white text in case somebody is really oblivious.

Castaras
2007-05-06, 02:26 PM
Wow! I really didn't expect that! *Gasp*

inky13112
2007-05-06, 05:26 PM
Hmm pretty much the only real decision is whether Cassie expertises or not. And since shes not using combat expertise (to make it more fair? maybe?) you could just mass roll until someone dies. Just some thoughts. Course that would deny the poor lions (dang kitties :smallmad: ) any hope of getting food, but still...

:/ (they really need an OOTS style smiley like that)

heretic
2007-05-06, 05:34 PM
I agree. I would have a template to attack and Cassie could have a template to attack until she loses and life, then Expertise, or whatever she wants.

Abardam
2007-05-07, 02:06 AM
Yeah, I should've allotted more points. And put a limit on the number of times you can get a skill, because you'll probably just pump your favorite attribute, or something like that.

Round 20
Castaras attacks Heretic ([roll0]), dealing [roll1] damage if she hits!
Heretic attacks back ([roll2]vs[roll3]), for [roll4], if he hits!

Please, dice roller. Please.

Abardam

Error: Heretic's defense:

Abardam
2007-05-07, 02:13 AM
Okay, I feel that I should do something to 'spice things up', as it were. Uh, okay, the crowd chants, "Kill! Kill!", giving you both Attack+ and Damage+ for the rest of the battle.

(This will repeat again in the next round, if nobody hits.)

Wooo!

Okay....Template time...

I will always Attack Heretic, until I go down to One life, and then I'll attack him with Expertise on.

Just roll the dice again and again and again, Abardam.

Abardam
2007-05-08, 09:43 AM
Lo! Template time! Until it's over! Probably every day! (I'm assuming Heretic always wants to attack Castaras. Because, you know.)

Round 21

Heretic attacks Castaras ([roll0]vs[roll1]), for an improved [roll2] damage!
Castaras, also empowered by the crowd's blood-thirsty cries, attacks Heretic ([roll3]vs[roll4]) for [roll5] damage!

exilerating indeed one of the many threads I have had the enjoyment of watching but I will say it will end this next time.

Sorry just felt like I should add something.

Abardam
2007-05-10, 08:05 AM
Yeah, hopefully. Or I'll have to get Castaras and Heretic to agree to some kind of draw.

Overlord Jack Chainer
2007-05-10, 08:07 AM
If you wouldnt mind if you decide to do another one if I could join up and play? send me a message or something and ill get to it later. have a good day mate happy killings you two play nice.

2007-05-10, 08:21 AM
Oh yeah, I'll probably do another. Still open to everyone.

Castaras
2007-05-10, 09:35 AM
Hmm...and so I will now put on Combat Expertise and attack Heretic.

Just to confirm.

heretic
2007-05-10, 07:01 PM
I would mind you just rolling for as many rounds as it takes to win, all at once. Just to cut out the suspense/waiting factor.

Abardam
2007-05-10, 09:35 PM
Yeah, okay.

Round 23

Castaras uses Combat Expertise, and attacks Heretic(vs[roll1]) for [roll]1d12) damage!
Heretic attacks ([roll2]vs[roll3]) for [roll4] damage!

Round 24

Abardam
2007-05-11, 10:11 AM
To be clear:
-'hits': Overcomes defense
-'deals damage': Overcomes vitality

Some points:

Nobody used Flank or Shield Other.
Nobody used stat-damaging skills.
Counterattack is complicated.
Nobody used Initiative-enhancing skills.
Everyone puts too much into passive skills.

Skill changes:
Flank: Target other player who is attacking the same player as you gains Attack++
Shield Other: Target other player gains Defense++
Sunder: Target loses 1 attack* if it hits / attack- (no damage)
Shield Break: Target loses 1 defense* if it hits / attack- (no damage)
Impale: Target loses 1 vitality* if it damages / attack-
Weakening Strike: Target loses 1 damage* if it damages / attack-
*do not stack with each other
Counterattack: If your target is attacking you, this attack is at Attack+ Damage+.
Stealth is now passive.

Also, there is a limit of you may purchase any skill only once.

Conditions:
Stunned: A player who is stunned may only use a stance for one round. For example:
There are three gladiators: Speed, Smasher, and Swordsman.
Round 1:
Pre-phase:
Speed goes first, as he is Rushing.
Main Phase:
Smasher stuns Swordsman.
Swordsman still gets to go, as the stunning happens after the phase.
Round 2:
Pre-phase:
Speed goes first again.
Main Phase:
Smasher stuns Speed.
Swordsman is stunned.
Round 3:
Pre-phase:
Speed is stunned.
Main Phase:
Swordsman is not stunned anymore.

Blinded: A player who is Blinded takes Attack- and Defense-. Whenever that player attacks there is a 50% chance he attacks someone else.

New skills:

Automatically unlocked stuff:
Fighting defensively [stance]: Defense+ Attack-
Fighting aggressively [stance]: Attack+ Defense-
Sprint [special]: You may not be the target of attacks this round, you may not use this for two consecutive rounds

Fortitude [passive]: If you lose a life in a round, you do not lose your action.
Blind-Fight [passive]: You do not suffer the 50% miss chance while Blinded.

Juggernaut Stance [stance]: Defense-- Vitality+++
Spring Attack [stance]: You do not count as attacking when it would be beneficial to you (such as determining extra damage from Counterattack)

Coup-de-Grace [attack]: Lower initiative attack; if it hits, and target's life is 1, target dies instantly/ Attack-
Desperation Strike [attack]: Lose 1 life / Attack+ Damage+++
Stunning Smash [attack]: If you hit, target is stunned for 1 round/ Attack-
Enraged Smash [attack]: / Damage+ for every attack skill you have
Hulk Smash [attack]: /Attack+ and Defense- for every point of Damage you have over target
Hamstring [attack]: Target player may not use Sprint next round / Attack-
Falling Spider [attack]: If your target is stunned, he loses 1 Vitality
Eye Strike [attack]: If you hit, target is Blinded/ Attack--
Shield Bash [attack]: If you hit a target whom you successfully defended against last round, and this attack damages, your target is stunned

Two-Weapon Rend [special]: Target player who you hit twice last round loses 1 vitality. This takes place before the round's actions start
Blinding Powder [special]: Target player is blinded for 2 rounds
Caltrops [special]: All who attack you this round lose 1 Initiative
Shield Body [special]: All attacks directed at target player this round are instead directed at you

Shouts: You may use a shout at any time. After you use a shout, you may not use another shout until x+1 rounds have passed, where x is the number of players affected. Man, I'm stealing so much from Guild Wars.
Charisma[passive]: You may use shouts

“Everybody to the Limit!” [multi-target shout]: targets' Attack+ Damage+ for 1 round, you may not use another shout for an additional 1 round
“You are on the Way to Destruction!” [single-target shout]: If target's life is at 1, he takes Attack- and Damage- for 1 round
“I Will Survive!” [personal shout]: If you are at 1 life, you gain Vitality+ for every foe attacking you; you also gain Defense+
“Halt!” [single-target shout]: Target may not Sprint this round
“Hammer Time!” [multi-target shout]: The next time targets use an attack with Smash in the name, the target of the attacks is stunned for an additional round (if the attack does not stun, it stuns for one round) if it hits
“Charge!” [multi-target shout]: Targets have Initiative+ for 1 round
“It's Just a Flesh Wound!” [personal shout]: If you would lose a life this round, and you would die due to this, you instead do not lose a life. You may only use this shout once per game
“The Power is Yours!” [multi-target shout]: You lose 1 damage and all other targets gain 1 damage for x rounds, where x is the number of targets
“Go for the Eyes!” [multi-target shout]: The next time target attacks, if he rolls the maximum on his attack roll and hits, he may add that value to his Damage roll

Psionics:
New attribute: Psi, 1d6; Psi automatically regenerates at the rate of 1 per round, at the end of each round; New action: Psionics, replaces attack; New status: Concentration: While concentrating, you may not use a stance, attack, use psionics, or use a special maneuver

Intelligence [passive]: Increase Psi by 1

Expansion [stance]: Damage+, Defense-, Vitality+, Initiative+/ required: 1d4 Psi/ pay 1 Psi (Augment: Damage ++, Defense--, Vitality++, Initiative++/required: 1d6 Psi/ pay 2 Psi)
Telekinesis [stance]: Replace your Attack score with your Psi score.
Biofeedback [stance]: Replace your Vitality score with your Psi score.

Diversion [psionics]: If target is using a special attack or psionics, he may not use it again for 3 rounds/ required: 1d6 Psi/ Pay 2 Psi
Migraine [psionics, concentration]: Roll Psi against your target's Psi; if you succeed, target loses 2 Psi for every round that you concentrate. After you stop concentrating, you may not use Migraine again for x rounds, where x is the number of rounds you spent concentrating/ required: 1d6 Psi/ Pay 2 Psi
Mind Thrust [psionics]: Roll Psi against your target's Psi; if you succeed, target loses 1 life/ required: 1d6 Psi/ Pay 3 Psi
Silence [psionics, concentration]: Target cannot use shouts as long as you are concentrating on Silence/ required: 1d6 Psi/ Pay 2 Psi every round/ concentration requirement: 1d4 Psi

Skull Smash [attack]: If you hit, target loses 3 Psi/ Attack-

Drink Like a Demon [special]: You gain Attack+ Vitality+ Defense- Psi- for every consecutive round you use this skill. The bonuses last for 3 rounds after you stop drinking, during which you cannot use this skill
So, comments? Yay, or nay?

Yeah, I will. But first I'd like your input on

Team Battles
Before the game starts, players are grouped into teams of 4, 3, 2, or 1. A team wins if the last players remaining are among its members. (Basically, if it's the last team standing.)
Team Configuration:
4 players: 3 life each, 4 skills each
3 players: 4 life each, 5 skills each
2 players: 6 life each, 6 skills each
1 player: 8 life, 8 skills
