View Full Version : Rules Q&A Clerics and BAB.
If for any reason, the Cleric's BAB would be lowered to 1/2 (from 3/4) would this be considered a SUPER NERF on the Cleric class? This would go to the Arcane Disciple from Dragon #311. It is pretty nerfed, but it shares a theme with the Cloistered Cleric, so maybe it wouldn't be that big?
Also, if the core Cleric BAB would be nerfed, still would be a big issue?

For clerics that don't do combat (e.g. buffing, BFC, summons), it wouldn't matter. Even a poor BAB character will make most if not all touch attacks, and a lot of good cleric spells don't need attack rolls.
For clerics that do combat, it wouldn't matter because Divine Power.
In short, hardly a nerf. They're still high T1.

In a lot of ways, Cloistered Cleric (which has 1/2 BAB) is just a better Cleric.
Clerics could have 0BAB per level, and thanks to Divine Power they'd still be good.

The question is why do you want to do this?
If you want to balance the caster Cleric, this doesn't really hurt them. It makes melee cleric non-viable without metamagic cost reduced buffs. It only hurts the low op hybrid and for them it's a mega nerf.

PrCs for melee clerics get a bit wonky and if nightsticks and persist spell is limited in any way, it'll nerf melee clerics that are higher op and completely nerf low op clerics.

Not much no, although the class will be harder to play earlier levels (or rather, a certain style of play will be enforced) since all clerics will appear to be cloistered (and thus using knowledge devotion to bolster to-hit).
