View Full Version : Monsters you want statted

I really need some good monsters to stat, and I'm sure some other people share my plight. Just give me something, be it from a myth, obscure fantasy novel, B-rate 50's movie, or an untitled post on deviantart, and I'll put stats for it on the homebrew subforum (3.5/PF only for now, those are the rules I actually understand).

Stat the Catbus and Totoro from "My Neighbour Totoro", I'm not sure how that would work in D&D/Pathfinder, but why not?

It's a bit odd, but how about Theo Jansen's Strandbeests (http://strandbeest.com/)? I plan on using them in my 3.5/3.N campaign setting, all I have written down for them right now is "gnomish strandbeest, gargantuan clockwork aberration".

I've been wanting to see a skoffin (http://illogictree.deviantart.com/art/Skoffin-213581153) statted, preferably as a critter suitable for an animal companion or familiar. This is a rather obscure creature, so for reference, it's a mythological creature from Iceland that's a hybrid between a cat and a fox. It inherits the cat's lack of fear of humans and gains a paralyzing gaze. The only pertinent legend I've been able to track down in English also mentions that it likes to eat corpses, and constructs elaborate networks of tunnels to break into graves without being seen.

Aside from that, here's a few works of my own that I'd be interested in seeing someone's take on. See if any strike your fancy.

Falchion Dragon (http://illogictree.deviantart.com/art/Falchion-Dragon-47372945)
Hydrax alien (http://illogictree.deviantart.com/art/Alien-Species-Hydrax-57550870)
Iipive alien (http://illogictree.deviantart.com/art/Alien-Species-Iipive-57552583)
Fluur (Trader) alien (http://illogictree.deviantart.com/art/Alien-Species-Trader-57553980)
Some weird creatures (http://illogictree.deviantart.com/art/Sketch-Dump-Weird-Creatures-252913027)

Well, here are some

Shoggoth

Moroi

Dhampir

Bunyip

I think Pathfinder has these statted already - dhampir is a PC race, and Moroi I think is what they call the standard vampire template.

I don't think they exist in 3.5, though, but the PF stats would be a place to start.

Seconded. Although some of the SCP's would be better as magic items.

Okay, I'm going to orginize these into three things:

Monsters I really want to stat
-1/3 of the stuff on the SCP wiki
-Iipive or whatever it was called
-Dropbears. These are beautiful.
-Jackalope
-Probably some weird [CENSORED] I find on Courage the Cowardly Dog, now that I think about it
Monsters I will stat when I get around to it
-1/3 of the monsters on the SCP wiki
-Flurr (trader)
-Sloth (this one's going to be easy)
-Panzershoggoths (possibly a whole race of military shoggoths)
Monsters that I am not statting for fear of utterly failing
-Strandbeests
-1/3 of the SCP monsters
-Catbus and Totoro
EDIT: Added fourth category
Monsters I will stat when I figure out what the hell they are going to do
-The weird sketches on deviantart
-Kami
ANOTHER EDIT: Added fifth category
Monsters that I am not doing, along with an explanation why
-Hydrax, looks kind of bland
-Any vampire/zombie, I'm totally bored of undead

I will start a stats tread when Scream Fortress 2 is over.

EDIT: I'm still thinking everything over, I just don't have time to get it down on paper.

What's that mush-faced fellow from The Goonies called? Slop? Loap? Something like that right? He'd be good to stat up cause he's a friendly monster. The Monster Manuel has too few monster for evil parties to fight and he would be perfect.

Also the Jackalope. I know they're typically as innocuous as a duckbunny but that Tiny Toons episode that had a jackalope in it scared the bejesus out of me when I was a lad. It's more horrifying than any of Ravenloft's darklords any day.

I actualy have to agree on the jackelope now, it would be number 2 on my most wanted list after the dropbear.

Glad you liked a few of my things there.

I'm actually not that fond of the Hydrax' design myself, but at least it's better than my older versions. :smalltongue:

Anyway, I'll be interested to see what you come up with for all of these.

Panzershoggoths.

Granted, the end result is probably just going to look like a regular Shoggoth in power armor with a zombie-powered ballista turret attached, but it needs to be statted as its own thing, because reasons.

Just a little update, adding some more monsters to The List (it sounds much more important in bold:smalltongue: ). I think I can handle the SCPs, although a list of some good ones would be great. I already know all the famous ones' numbers (682, 999, 49, etc.), but some of the B-rate ones would be nice.

So, you take a Shoggoth and give it +8 armour? That doesn't seem that hard.

Almost. You take a Shoggoth (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/oozes/shoggoth), give it power armor (http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/cw/20070212a), some kind of automated device to set fire to the Panzershoggoth and everyone nearby, and stats for a fire-and-cold-immune undead ballista crew on top. It's not hard to stat, per se.

I just want to see a statblock somewhere titled 'Panzershoggoth.'

SCP-021 (http://www.scp-wiki.net/scp-021) would be fun. Maybe even include rules for it as a familiar?

SCP-040 (http://www.scp-wiki.net/scp-040) also seems interesting. I personally think a Sarrukh-like ability would fit here best.

SCP-068 (http://www.scp-wiki.net/scp-068) could be fun to make.

And let us not forget SCP-096 (http://www.scp-wiki.net/scp-096), one of my personal favorites. That, and he's just creepy as heck.

I think that could be statted separately as a Dire Jackalope.

Wouldn't that be a Fort save, since it entails maintaining physical control?
Now, remembering the Silence, that would be a Will save.

I demand my Panzershoggoth Division!

And I think the term for the undead ballista crewmen would be panzershoggothgrenadier (PzShG). Ahh, German.

Although I must say, putting a shoggoth in power armor negates its main characteristic of being an amorphous macro-amoeba capable of shaping itself however it wishes. When I first said "Panzershoggoth" I pictured it wielding huge "shields" of RHA it could rapidly redeploy by reshaping around them and/or maneuvering them with its pseudopods.

Andnow that I think of it, one could be armed with an 88mm gun "pod" which was self-contained and crewed, and which could be pulled in or pushed out as needed and could be simply shifted about the shoggoth's mass to switch between the 88's anti-tank and anti-aircraft roles. And unlike a normal tank, if the heat got too bad it could simply be pushed behind one of the abovementioned shields.

I apologize for my large delay. I was roped into watching "Scream" Friday night, woke up at one in the afternoon, and realized how much homework I had to do. I am planning to stat on Monday, but given my track record, I'm not making any promises.

Sloth, I think. And he's not a monster, just a human with really terrible stat rolls for everything except strength. (Ok, maybe he's a Half-Ogre or something...)

Anyone want to try statting the Ambiguous Puzuma, from Discworld? It "lives in two dimensions and eats mathematicians."

That's the shadowing lemma you're thinking of. The ambiguous puzuma is a big cat that can travel at near light speed (well, light speed on the Disc, anyway), but can't know both what it is and where it's going at the same time. It took a while for wizards to realize that they weren't naturally pancake-shaped.
