You have been traveling around for awhile and one day you stop at an inn in the small town of Renthin.
A large storm starts to rage on the town you are staying at, for weeks. No one has ever seen a storm this powerful or this long-lasting before. It is almost unnatural, and when any clerics or magic users try to control the weather, they are unable to get a grip on it... It is impossible to travel with it and many people have been stuck inside of the local Inn, unable to leave. One day while sitting in the Inn a strange Heavy Armored Kings-guard walks in... He walks over to the empty job request board and nails something to it. He looks around at everyone staring at him, then casually walks out. You can hear whispers, why was a kings-guard here, of all places... You can see a few people walk up to the board, shake their head and walk back to their seats....

Kregar watched silently from the table, waiting for everyone to get over their curiosity before he sated his. He scratched Amber (his wolf) behind her ears as it nuzzled against him. Luckily for him, he got there earlier and managed to get a table and room. Though his money supply was starting to dwindle because of this freak storm.

He got up out of his chair and left Amber to guard the table. He was sure no one would take it. He hobbled over to the board and took a look at the note.

You read the poster:
Wanted: Dark Clerics & Cultists
Wanted for necromancy, murder, thievery, terrorism, unnatural tampering with nature, and hosting high class criminals.

Reward: 1,000 gold pieces.

Other Information: There is currently 4 dark clerics in the nearby woods about 1 hour east of Renthin right off of the trail. They have been assumed to have been creating the horrifying storm that has been plaugeing this side of the continent for weeks. They have been robbing and killing most men who travel across this road as travelers and will practice dark necromancy in raising these people as vile undead monsters. It has also been rumored, but just rumored that the Dread Necromancer has been leading the cult as a hero. These are just rumors and speculations, no guarantees. Because of the atrocities he has committed, bring his head, we do NOT want him alive, to the Great Castle of Westforge for a reward of 1,000,000 gold pieces. But there is a low chance that the rumors are true, they were most likely created by the Dark Clerics to scare off most bounty hunters. Beware, they are not to be taken lightly. You most likely wont be able to do this on your own, recommend a small group and NOT a singular adventurer.

To collect your reward please bring the cultists (dead or alive) to Lord Horgras, Governor of Riverrun.

New Quest: Slay the Dark Clerics!

The small hooded figure watched in abject curiosity as the people of the Inn gathered around the notice. And then watched as they slowly moved back to their tables, apparently unable to fulfill whatever criteria was set for it. Finally one lone figure who appeared guarded by an overly large dog had moved forward and seemed interested in achieving what was asked. Perhaps this might be worth taking a look at Gix thought.

Gliding off the chair he moved quietly through the crowed with little notice until he got to the board. Necromancy, perhaps the one school of arcane arts that he detested, Gix never quite understood the point in reanimating corpses. It was simply better to create something out of sturdier material than to use lumps of flesh and bone. But the money was very good, especially if this Dread Necromancer guy was indeed hanging around. But slogging through undead wasn't exactly his strong suit, he was going to need others to achieve this.

One of the people who was calmly staring at the boards, as the notice was posted, was a cloaked and armored human, who seemed to give off an aura of confidence. One could not properly see his face, not entirely, because of the angle at which he sat, at the side of the bar, but one could tell general features. He had a slightly odd complexion, a combination of a tan, and the skin color of someone who'd lived in the mountains their entire life. He also seemed to have short, black hair, that seemed to be in a terrible shape, but one didn't expect more from a road-weary traveler.

He was Leviticus Vandire, a Son of Zarus, and he arose slowly, held down slightly by the weight of the greatsword at his back, that was seemingly very well made, but still large. It took him some time, as he made his way across the bar, walking quite slowly, and purveying the rest of the fellows looking at the board. A bunch were non human, and some were human, but most of them seemed to not like the odds, as they would shake their heads and walk away. Terribly timid of them, and a waste of what they could do.

By the time he'd reached the board, there were only two others who seemed to be up for the challenge, but as he began to read the poster, he sort of understood why some were backing away. A whole group of corpsedefilers was bad, and an unwillingness to work with others helped their attitude towards it.

But he had no qualms with working with others, even if they were degenerates or non humans, for one could not do everything alone. You had to exploit a few fellows to get things done.

He murmured to himself, under his breath, but loud enough for anyone near the board to hear "So, I'd need a group of people to do this. Wiping out a whole army of undead, plus their masters doesn't seem very easy for a single man, even trained like me, to do."

"Oh, I don't know, I suppose that would depend on the depth of your training" says a breathy voice from behind the armored man. Turning, those gathered around the posting see a wild-eyed, disheveled man craning his neck to read the notice over Leviticus's shoulder. "Or, perhaps, on how sane one still is" he adds flatly, tilting his head this way and that, as if trying to get a better view, though his vision is unobstructed.

The goblin turns around to look at the company that had decided to join him. He looks weak and his skin leathery beneath his studded leather He is holding a walking stick in one hand and is slightly supporting himself on it. He has no hair whatsoever and his green eyes are quite odd for a goblin. Yet the most grotesque feature of his was the scar running from the lip of his mouth all the way to his ear. Someone or something had done quite a number on him to give him such a scar. Goblins were not pretty creatures to begin with, he looked ten times worse.

A simple thought was going through his mind which he spoke out loud. I'm sick of this storm. I want to get out of here and move on. How about we team up and split all treasure found and earned evenly. As the paper says, we can't do this on our own. Four of them. Four of us. Fair enough I say. the goblin rasps, taking deep breaths during his talk. It seems his scar gives him some difficulty talking but not enough to hamper him.

He looks to the other three. He wasn't particularly interested in joining with them, but he didn't really have a choice. None of them did if they ever wanted to get out of here. Though usually his scar scared away most people.

A new found party has been made! You realize it is very late so you think you should all head to bed so you are all well rested in the morning for your adventure. Is there anything else before you all head to bed?

Xalos

((sorry had a long day yesterday and didn't get a chance to get on here))

You all go to bed and rest successfully... But in the morning you wake up to a loud boom. And you can smell just a slight bit of gunpowder in the air...

Ellowryn
2014-10-30, 07:48 AM
Well, not the first nor the last time i will be woken up by gunfire.... Gix thought. He then dressed in his usual manner, folding his wings in close and pulling his cloak tight, apparently unconcerned with what was going on outside. He then took some time to meditate on his dragon 'ancestors', renewing his vows with them and his purpose. Once he felt satisfied to that he quitely stepped outside his room and slowly made his way downstairs to see what was happening.

Heavensfury

At the sound of the explosion, Duma's feet shoot up from the pillow, turning first one way, then the other, as trying to get their bearings. All the while, gentle snoring continues to emanate from the bottom portion of the bed. Flexing violently at the knees, his feet deliver a terrific kick to his backside, at which point the rest of him shoots up, alert for danger...or at least he would be if his head weren't still covered by the bedspread. He sniffs loudly, slowly pulling the cloth down until his face peeks out. Letting his nose lead the way, he attempts to suss out the source of the combustion, still draped in the bed-sheet.

((since the others didn't respond ill say they went downstairs to))

You get downstairs and you see a bunch of people huddling around children in corners crying and everyone in mass panic with the bartender and wenches trying to calm people down.... you dont just smell gunpowder anymore it is starting to be a bit more like smoke by the time you get your stuff and get downstairs.

It seems that instead of us finding a problem, a problem has found us.

Looking around, Gix sees the bartenders moving about and moves over to one.

Excuse me, but what in the name of the nine hells is going on? It sounded like an explosion earlier and the presence of smoke seems to confirm it. Also, there may or may not be a fire around here somewhere.

The bartender looks worried... "The whole town is burring! The group of clerics that you were searching for came to us and are slaughtering us, and the rumor about The Dread Necromancer helping them... it's true! We are all going to die here!" The bartender starts to cry a little bit but quickly wipes away the tears.... "I must return to trying to calm the citizens down, get your party, you may be the only one that is able to save us!"

As he finishes saying this and before anyone has the chance to do anything else a swift wind goes throughout the building knocking out all the torches making it entirely black. The windows seem to be magically tinted from the outside for some reason not to let any light in and everything goes quiet, accept for a person or 2 crying. The only light that has emerged is from the cracks of the front door. All of a sudden you hear a loud crash at the door as if someone was trying to break it down. Then a second crash 2 seconds later. Finally a third crash and the door comes flying off of the hinges. In the light of the doorway you see the silhouette of a person standing there with a large scythe, that for some reason is connected to a chain that floats around by itself instead of a pole. The man waves his hand and all of you black out. Next thing you know you are in full blackness, and you fell you are laying down. What do you do?

"By the blade of Zarus, what am I supposed to do with this?" the human said, as he attempted to regain his footing, and lifted himself up with a grunt. "Come on and get up, you buggers, we've got necromancers to kill." He drew the large blade from his back, and immediately got into a fighting stance, ready to bring down the wrath of man.

He waited for his newly made party to also reacquire their footing, so that they could advance upon the clerics that were causing all this havoc.

Duma awakes, feeling warm and cozy in the bedspread conveniently still draped around him. He tries to stretch, but much to his annoyance finds tight walls restricting his movement. "Oh bother!" he exclaims before he starts fishing around beneath his shirt with one hand. Pulling out a crystal, which had sadly lost its luminescence after too many days beneath the sun, he starts feeling the walls with his other hand, trying to identify the material. Concentrating, he projects his thoughts to the crystal. Xe! Get up you lazy bum! Did you see what those black-clad hooligans did to us, and do you know what this thing is we're inside? He shakes the crystal a little as if trying to wake it up, though of course the construct never sleeps, and waits for an answer.

Hoping that as a construct, his psicrystal wasn't affected by that knock-out spell, Duma is going to see if it "saw" what happened while they were knocked out. Even if it didn't, it's unaffected by mundane and magical darkness, so should at least be able to heroically tell him what the box looks like.

The psi-crystal remembers nothing, just as you don't remember anything.... The crystal is able to tell the box is made out of stone....

Gix & Leviticus you are able to tell it is stone and there seems to be straight cracks on the uppermost area as if the top were a lid....

A stone box? Sigh, i am a sorcerer, purveyor of arcane magic to reign destruction down on my enemies. I don't do heavy lifting..... With little recourse left, Gix will right himself and attempt to use all of what little strength he has to lift the lid.

He runs his hands along the sides and kicks his feet as well. It takes him a moment to realize that the entire thing is made of stone. And most likely heavy. Probably too heavy for him. It seems if you are in a medium sized room lit by a single torch.... 8 coffins line the northern wall (4 are open that you and your party members came out of...). Listening and smelling the air it seems as if you are in some sort of murky dungeon by the smell of moss & the sound of dripping water.... There is closed door on the southern wall, and another closed door on the eastern wall.

Getting out of the coffin, Duma makes a great show of stretching out his cramped muscles. "Really? Any information? Very well," he says in response to the kobold's question, "we appear to be underground, possibly in a crypt, with four as of yet unopened coffins which may contain nothing, our equipment, or perhaps awakened corpses dreaming of our juicy brains."

Stepping out of his own coffin with exaggerated care, he moves over to one of the unopened coffins, and lowers his head so his ear is resting directly against the lid. "As to why those brutes put us here...I don't know. Food? Entertainment? Perhaps to accomplish some task only able to be done by the pure of heart?" After a brief pause, he starts tittering madly at this last supposition, finding the notion ludicrously amusing.
