View Full Version : What system would you use for Ghostbusters?

I'm sure I'm not the only kid who grew up hoping that one day ghostbusting would become a legitimate career choice and that I too could carry an unlicensed nuclear accelerator on my back. Perhaps my kids will one day live in a world where we've not only confirmed the existence of an afterlife, but have started locking up its inhabitants for vagrancy, but it's starting to look unlikely that I'll ever see it.

So I turn to the next best thing! I've been thinking of putting together a oneshot where the PCs are the new owners of Ghostbusters franchise in Las Vegas and all the shenanigans that would go with it, but haven't really settled on a system for it. So Playground, what would YOU use?

I guess the first choice would be Ghostbusters International (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghostbusters_(role-playing_game))

Or if you can't track that down
Mutants and Masterminds can be used to run everything (PL6 - 8 sounds about right for such a campaign. Mostly because the proton beams tend to be very destructive)

But even d20 modern would work.

There is a net supplement for this floating around somewhere.

Just reflavour hitpoints into coolnees points.

Loosing all of them, doesn't kill you, but it makes you lose your cool...meaning you will run away screaming.

Hmm, that's a tough one. First I have to admit that in this case my go-to Delta Green is actually the wrong answer.

New World of Darkness, maybe?

The d20 modern ghostbuster rules are just awful, at least the ones my group found, the proton packs were line attacks with a flat ref save for half.

I ended up redoing the rules for the proton packs (and all the stuff from the surprisingly good ghostbusters video game) myself, when I get home from work I'll see if I can dig them up.

So in your system you have to bump the ghosts against the wall to capture them?

I've really been meaning to getting around to making a Fate system conversion for Ghostbusters, but I am notoriously lazy and easy to distract.

There's always Inspectres (http://www.memento-mori.com/rpg/inspectres)...

The best way I'm familiar with is Ghostbusters Resurrection, found here with a podcast of some people playing it: http://nerdyshow.com/gbrpg/

*chuckle*

Well, you're not the first person to think that (http://ffn.nodwick.com/?p=221) (and yes, I did go all the way through the FFN archives to find that strip when I saw this thread title :smalltongue:)

I would go for Atomic Robo.

In fact, I think someone built some Modes and sheets for Ghostbusters.

Let's see... yep, here they are (http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?740542-Ghostbusters-Fate-Core-stunts-for-Winston&p=18428326#post18428326).

I actually came into this thread to suggest this. InSpectres is technically not a Ghostbusters RPG, inasmuch as none of the specific names are used and they're copyright clear. It is about three examples and some names away from a Ghostbusters RPG, really obviously pulled from Ghostbusters, and should work beautifully.

My first thought was, like most things, Mutants and Masterminds; but I wanted to see what other folks thought. I'm pleasantly surprised to find that there's already a system(or two) out there specifically for it though. My life feels a little more complete.

You gotta LARP it dude.

You mean burst into a hotel ballroom and set it on fire to get rid of the ghosts? That's the kind of urges they medicate out of you.

Seriously though, if I knew anything about LARPing I'd get right on that. I love the image of me and my friends sneaking around an abandoned building making the proton pack noises.
