This thread is about what goes into a good story: plot, character development, building tension, etc. It is inspired by Andrew Stanton's TED talk of two years ago: The clues to a great story (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxDwieKpawg) (20 min, strong language).

Micro Tension, that is, constant little phrases to keep the reader ALWAYS tense, has gotten a lot of press lately, and I have to say, while it can be good for serial fiction in moderation, some stories ive read that use it just get... exhausting to read. I've always been fond of a nice rising pitch, release, fall, and rerise.

Yeah. I haven't found any good references about pacing yet. :smallfrown:

In the meantime, I found another video: The mystery of storytelling - Julian Friedmann (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=al3-Kl4BDUQ) (20 min)

It must be a region code block since I can see it. Here's the TED link (http://tedxtalks.ted.com/video/The-Mystery-of-Storytelling-Jul), tho it may have the same problem.
