This is a new and (hopefully) improved version of the system. I decided to post it as a separate thread to avoid all the confusion with double skill lists and compendiums.

Generica is a simple set of rules that can be adopted for almost any setting, especially suitable for video games. Here is the basics:

Six stats.

They are similar to D&D ability score, but some of them have a slightly different purpose.

Strength-It affects your Physical Attack(PA) and slightly boosts the damage of physical abilities.
Vitality-It affects your Physical Evade(PE) and Physical Defense(PD).
Agility-It affects Initiative and evasion.
Intelligence-It affects your Magical Attack(MA) and slightly boosts the damage of magical abilities.
Wisdom-It affects your Magical Evade(ME), Magical Defense(MD) and support magic(healing and buffs).
Willpower-It affects your Status Evade(SE) Status Attack(SA) and Status Defense(SD).

Every character starts with 20 points to distribute among this 6 stats. Maximum is 7 and minimum is 1. At level 3, and every two levels after that you add +1 to two stats of your choice.
To gain a level your character needs to gain 10 EXP. Encounters usually provide somewhere between 2 and 5 EXP. DM can give EXP for RP actions, if it is fitting.

Every character regains SP every turn equal to (Intelligence+Wisdom+Willpower)/5.

Combat mechanics

Combat mechanics are simple. At the start of encounter every participant rolls Initiative. Turn order is simply from the highest initiative to the lowest. Once it is your turn you can perform one standard action and one minor action. Standard action is usually spent on using one of the skills that your character possess. When you use a skill you roll the appropriate attack value. If your roll is equal or higher than the targetís appropriate evade you are successful, and the effect is carried out. Some attacks have a chance to inflict a negative effect in addition to the damage they deal. For ailment attacks this is usually 100%, but physical attacks usually have around 60% chance to inflict an ailment. If the caster has spent any points in a Mastery skill each point adds +10% chance to inflict the particular ailment. If the target spent any points in an Evasion skill each point adds -10%. As long as the attack hits it deals damage, even if the effect is not applied.
When a creature is affected by an effect that affects his actions(charm, stoneÖ), his initiative is reduced to zero. If the effect is removed the initiative is returned to normal. If the effects is not removed the creature takes itís turn at the end of the round.

Rows, intercepting and countering

When combat starts characters are divided in two rows-front and back. When a character is attacked an ally can use his minor action to intercept the attack. This effectively switches the target, and the ally who is intercepting takes the attack. Front row characters can intercept any attack, but back row characters can only intercept attacks aimed at an ally in the back row.
When a character intercepts a attack he can use his next standard action to perform a counter attack. The counter attack must target the intercepted enemy and must be a single target attack. A counter attack has a +2 accuracy bonus.


Now we can get to down to the Shin Megami Tensei goodness.

Classes


Avatar Tuner-Hailing from Digital Devil Saga, Avatar Tuners have the ability to morph into a demonic form, thanks to the Atma virus. They learn new abilities by equipping different Mantras and gaining enough Atma Points to unlock the power of currently equipped Mantra. They are different from the others because they can learn all the skills in the game, with enough time. However, they are limited to few active skill. Changing the active skills takes a short rest, so it can not be done when in combat.
Persona User-Hailing from the Persona series, the Persona Users have the ability to summon the manifestation of their inner-self to protect them. Every Persona User starts with two Personas(or Personae, whatever you prefer). Only one persona can be active at any time, but you can switch your active Persona as a minor action. Your level determines how many Personas you can carry with you. Your current Persona rooster can be changed at the Velvet Room.
Demon Tamer-This version of Demon Tamer is inspired by Devil Survivor series. Demon Tamers donít engage their enemies themselves. Instead, they use demons to attack their enemies and support their allies. They can have maximum of two demons with them. As a minor action they can summon two demons, dismiss two demons or exchange one demon on the field for one stored demon.

Each class has itís own mechanics, but they all use the same battle system.
Avatar Tuners are the simplest, most of their flexibility comes into play before the actual combat starts. Their strengths, weaknesses and stats are fixed. They begin the game with two Tier 1 Mantras mastered, and a third one equipped. They can equip three skills from the start. At level 2, and every two levels afterwards Avatar Tuner unlocks another skill slot.
Persona Users have their own stats. However, this are averaged out with the currently equipped Persona. They usually donít have any strengths or weaknesses, so those are usually based on the active Persona. Their skill set is completely based on the Persona. Every Persona starts at Rank 1 with one or two skills. After every encounter every persona that was involved in the conflict receives EXP that allows the Persona to Rank Up. Maximum rank for a Persona is 8. Rank determines stats and skills of a Persona. Each Persona user starts with two awakened Personas.
Demon Tamers gain strengths and weaknesses from their demons. They gain their skill set by combining the skills of their demons. Demons also provide bonuses and penalties to Tamerís stats. Every Demon Tamer starts with 3 Tier 1 Demons of their choice.
Personas do not manifest physically and demons are consider to be one with their summoner. As such they share a space, move together and do not grant additional actions per turn.

Hitting an enemy's weakness grants you quite a few benefits. First, you roll the damage twice and take the better result. Second, you get an extra minor action. Third your enemy is Downed.
If your enemy has resistance to your attack, you roll the attack twice and take the lower result.
When attacking a Downed enemy you always roll the damage twice and take a better result. If you are hitting a weakness you also roll the attack twice and take the better result.
If all your enemies are Downed and if your GM allows you can perform an All Out Attack. This attacks deal 1d10 damage to all enemies. Each character also adds half his level to the amount of damage inflicted. This damage is non-typed Almighty and as such it can not be reduced in any way.


Poison-Damage over time. -10% maximum HP, 3 turns.
Fear-50% chance to be unable to act. 3 turns.
Exhaustion-Damage over time. -20% maximum SP, 3 turns.
Stun-Loses one standard action.
Mute-Blocks Elemental Attack skills, 3 turns.
Paralyze-Blocks Physical Attack skills, 3 turns.
Enervation-Blocks Healing/Assist skills, 3 turns.
Panic-Blocks Ailment Attack/Manipulation skills, 3 turns.
Sleep-Unable to act, awaken when attacked. 4 turns
Curse-Damage inflicted to others is also inflicted to the user. 3 turns.
Charm-Heals enemies and attacks allies. 2 turns.
Stone-Unable to act. 3 turns.

AP are gained after every battle, the amount is equal to total level of defeated enemies*2 divided by the number of participants.

Sub-Persona User
Inspire by the upcoming Persona Q, this class serves as a variation of the standard Wild Card. This group of Persona Users have a permanent Persona of their own (that can evolve if the DM allows it), but they are still able to use the standard set of Wild Card's Personas. Their primary persona can learn up to four skills, but they start with no skills of their own. Once their persona achieves level 3 they can start learning their personal skills. Total tier of primary persona's skills can not exceed persona's level-2. Generally, primary persona can learn any skill, but DM always has the last word and can restrict some skill combinations.
This primary persona comes with a price, naturally. This character's sub-personas can only learn up to 4 skills. This essentially means that they sacrifice some versatility for reliability. In the end, the power level should be identical. At least in theory.

Social links
What would a Persona game be without Social Links? On a second thought, don't answer that, it can only lead to old Vs new persona debate, and those are never productive. Anyway, optional rule for social links gives you a small boost for every rank you attain in a social link, and this boost applies only to personas of that particular Arcana. This bonuses should follow the Arcana's specialists. MD and healing boost for Priestess Arcana? Yes, please. Physical attack boost? Well, that's just proves you never played any persona game.

Tarot cards
Sure, the DM is free to hand out or withhold Personas as he sees fit, but tarot cards are a nice way to limit what personas your characters can use, but still maintain the illusion that they have any choice. Essentially, to summon a particular Persona you need enough cards that correspond to that Persona's Arcana. Allowing the players to trade this cards and giving them a few blank cards will give them some choice. To avoid large numbers I personally go for 1/3/5/7/10, to make it simple.

Material cards
This are listed as optional, but I advise every DM to let their players use them. This cards allow you to add an additional skill when awakening a persona. It is a great way to add skills like Void and Break, that might be very hard/impossible to find. Giving your players a small list of skills to pick from is encouraged.


Tag ring modifications
Every Avatar Tuner has a Tag Ring, that is how they access the Karma Terminal. This tag rings can support various modification. Every tag ring starts with two modification slots, and DM can choose to increase this, if he wants to give his players some extra power. Any modification must first be found and installed in order to be activated. As with skills, active modifications can be changed at any time outside of combat.

Personal Items
This are items that a DM can give out as a quest reward. They are bound to a particular Tuner, and can not be traded.

Strength:
Counter Power-Every point spent in this talent give you +0.5 damage when countering.
Strike Mastery-Every point spent in this talent gives you +1 damage to your Strike skills.
Slash Mastery-Every point spent in this talent gives you +1 damage to your Slash skills.
Pierce Mastery-Every point spent in this talent gives you +1 damage to your Pierce skills.
Strike Focus-Every points in this talent reduces the HP cost of Strike skills by 0.8.
Slash Focus-Every points in this talent reduces the HP cost of Slash skills by 0.8.
Pierce Focus-Every points in this talent reduces the HP cost of Pierce skills by 0.8.
Toughness-Every point spent in this talent gives +1 to your maximum HP.
Regeneration-Every point spent in this talent gives you +0.5 to your HP recovery.
Vitality:
Greater Interception-Every point spent in this talent give you an extra interception for one minor action.
Toughness-Every point spent in this talent gives +1 to your maximum HP.
Strike Focus-Every point in this talent reduces the HP cost of Strike skills by 0.8.
Slash Focus-Every point in this talent reduces the HP cost of Slash skills by 0.8.
Pierce Focus-Every point in this talent reduces the HP cost of Pierce skills by 0.8.
Strike Defense-Every point spent in this talent gives you +1 Strike damage reduction.

Protector-Every point spent in this talent reduce the damage you receive when intercepting by 0.5 points.

Agility:
Evasion Pool-Every point spent in this talent gives you +1 to your Evasion Pool. Every time you are attacked with a physical or elemental attack you can spend any amount of points and add them to your evade against that attack. This pool refreshes after every encounter.
Accuracy Pool-Every point spent in this talent gives you +1 to your Accuracy Pool. When making a physical or elemental attack you can spend any amount of points and add them to your accuracy for that attack. This is done after you roll the dice. This pool refreshes after every encounter.
Greater Interception-Every point spent in this talent give you an extra interception for one minor action.
Intelligence:
Elemental Mastery-Every point spent in this talent gives you +1 damage with two elements of your choice.
True Caster-Every point spent in this talent give you +1 to your maximum SP.
Fire Focus-Every point spent in this talent reduces the SP cost of Fire skills by 0.5.
Ice Focus-Every point spent in this talent reduces the SP cost of Ice skills by 0.5.
Wind Focus-Every point spent in this talent reduces the SP cost of Wind skills by 0.5.
Electricity Focus-Every point spent in this talent reduces the SP cost of Electricity skills by 0.5.
Water Focus-Every point spent in this talent reduces the SP cost of Water skills by 0.5.
Earth Focus-Every point spent in this talent reduces the SP cost of Earth skills by 0.5.
Light Focus-Every point spent in this talent reduces the SP cost of Light skills by 0.5.
Dark Focus-Every point spent in this talent reduces the SP cost of Dark skills by 0.5.
Fire Penetration-Every point spent in this talent adds +2 damage against a target that has Null:Fire or Strong:Fire. This damage can not be reduced or nullified.
Ice Penetration-Every point spent in this talent adds +2 damage against a target that has Null:Ice or Strong:Ice. This damage can not be reduced or nullified.
Wind Penetration-Every point spent in this talent adds +2 damage against a target that has Null:Wind or Strong:Wind. This damage can not be reduced or nullified.
Electricity Penetration-Every point spent in this talent adds +2 damage against a target that has Null:Electricity or Strong:Electricity. This damage can not be reduced or nullified.
Water Penetration-Every point spent in this talent adds +2 damage against a target that has Null:Water or Strong:Water. This damage can not be reduced or nullified.
Earth Penetration-Every point spent in this talent adds +2 damage against a target that has Null:Earth or Strong:Earth. This damage can not be reduced or nullified.
Light Penetration-Every point spent in this talent adds +2 damage against a target that has Null:Light or Strong:Light. This damage can not be reduced or nullified.
Dark Penetration-Every point spent in this talent adds +2 damage against a target that has Null:Dark or Strong:Dark. This damage can not be reduced or nullified.
Invigorate-Every point spent in this talent adds +0.3 to your SP recovery.
Wisdom:
Elemental Defense-Every point spent in this talent gives you +1 damage reduction for two elements of your choice.

Ailment Accuracy-Every point spent in this talent gives you +10% accuracy with 3 ailments of your choice.
Mentality Pool-Every point spent in this talent gives you +1 to your Mentality Pool. When making an ailment attack you can spend any amount of points and add them to your accuracy for that attack. Every time you are attacked with an ailment attack you can spend any amount of points and add them to your evade against that attack. This is done after you roll the dice. This pool refreshes after every encounter.


Two (or more) characters can combine their skills to create more powerful skills. This is especially useful at lower levels, when you only have access to basic skills. General rule is that a fusion skill is considered to be performed by the character with highest relevant stat, while applying appropriate talents of all characters involved in the fusion.

I've been tinkering with a Persona based system for a while now. I'm willing to help with the Persona section of the system. Got a question about the Persona Compendium, are you basing it off any specific Persona game? Reason I ask is because a lot of the Persona are different from game to game (eg Slime's arcana in P3 is Fool, but in P4 it's Chariot).

Compendium is created by mixing personas from all 5 games. Some personas are more powerful, some less. Plus, they were adjusted for 20 levels, instead of 100. The base Compendium is mostly finished (5 personas for every arcana, I just need to convert 40 more personas from previous version), but Alternate Persona Compendium is used for personas other people suggest. Mostly for my players who want a custom persona.

You mean something like Persona 4 fusion forecast? Well, that depends entirely on the DM. The system can allow it, but I haven't planed for it.
By the way, your system inspired me switch from d20 to 3d6.:smallwink:

Being a group based on artwork, as most deviantart groups are, I'm not 100% sure how they do what they play, I think it's based on posting artwork specific to the group and getting viewing ratings or something. But that's not the part that interests me. I found their grouping of the Arcana, Persona, and Skills quite interesting.

One more week of work, then I'm on leave. Hopefully I'll have time to post something during my holiday.

I've not looked too deeply into how they did it, leaving in depth observations for when I'm on leave. I do like that they have an excel spreadsheet for all their groupings (I've taken a liking to working in excel :P ). I do like that any low level Skill can be used by anyone, but higher level Skills are suit specific.

I'll definitely have a more cut and dry split in my system. Swords - Physical attack; Wands - Magic attack; Cups - HP, ailments recovery and status buffs; Coins - Ailments and debuffs. Splitting the Arcana might not be easy though.

I've not looked too deeply into how they did it, leaving in depth observations for when I'm on leave. I do like that they have an excel spreadsheet for all their groupings (I've taken a liking to working in excel :P ). I do like that any low level Skill can be used by anyone, but higher level Skills are suit specific.

I have something similar in mind, you get a primary role and a secondary, but your secondary only counts as half your primary. I haven't worked on that project in a while.


I'll definitely have a more cut and dry split in my system. Swords - Physical attack; Wands - Magic attack; Cups - HP, ailments recovery and status buffs; Coins - Ailments and debuffs. Splitting the Arcana might not be easy though.

I use Striker/Caster/Healer/Controller as Swords/Wands/Cups/Coins.
Some are easy, some not. I would go with something like this:

Swords-Emperor, Chariot, Strength, Justice, Tower
Wands-Magician, Sun, Fortune, Death, Judgment
Cups-Priestess, Hierophant, Star, Temperance, Empress
Coins-Lovers, Hermit, Devil, Moon, Hanged Man

Some of them are not 100% fitting (like Tower and Hanged Man), but they are mostly OK.

I use something different. I give my players optional objectives, based on what they do the most. If they fulfill them they unlock special skills, that can be added by "burning" an additional persona during fusion. If one of my players uses elemental attacks I allow him to unlock Gido(Almighty) skills if they exploit enough elemental weaknesses. And this objectives are secret, other players don't know about them. It adds an extra layer of fun to combat.

That's not actually mine. Dust has a new version out that apparently has a bigger fan base, so I put the old version in my sig so I wouldn't lose it because it no longer has support. Thanks anyway. I guess that means I need to put the FRPS in my sig, since it's the one I did do.

Yep. It's his. I found it before I found BESM 3, otherwise I'd use BESM 3 to run Final Fantasy. I'm willing to use BESM 3 to run anything, but I can't quite figure out a few things required for a Persona based game. That's what brought me here. I've got a game over on RPoL that isn't requesting players because I'm not done with frontloading.

Well, it's called Realm of Shadow: Blood of the Fools. for Storyline reasons, everyone is a Wildcard. Also helps players not squabble so much, but I have an actual reason connecting Philemon to the story why everyone is a wildcard. There's also some secrets regarding the World Arcana that I won't reveal until pretty close to the end of the game. It has some Sentai elements in that there's attacks that all the characters MUST participate in for them to work. There's one fairly big name drop, and my idea uses an MMO as the basis for gaining all these rlykewlpwrs and not just randomly using them in public. I got the idea before SAO though, (inspired by the Midnight Channel actually)

I'm just flat out not using all the conditions though, because they're so much of a pain, but I'm using most of them.

As long as ailments are actually useful it doesn't matter if there aren't many of them available.

Yeah, basically, I'm ironing out details at the moment. I've opened up a BESM Community game over there too, so I can iron things out but people aren't very active so I've mostly just written down the ideas as they've came to me.

It's kind of iffy, I've done a good bit of work and RuBB is different than whatever code this uses. Some things won't work right, and I will have to work up to "wanting to fiddle with it" to transfer it.
