Gnome battle machines!

So I'm running this campaign and I want to put a civilization of gnomes in it. It's a sea fairing campaign so I need some constructs that are light enough to be useful on a ship to do the fighting for the gnomes. I'm looking for a template our something that I can use to make mechanized warriors but not iron forge. Is there anything like that?

Consider taking the automatons from MM2 and beefing them up a bit (e.g. removing the Unreliable nonsense).

May I suggest adding some Spider Thieves to the vessles? They could just be scurrying about the ship, delivering little messages, food, bringing rags and other small tools to the workers, etc.
