View Full Version : Alternative Site for list of spells/feats/classes

All I have is this. My main source is not available. I still have the books but I don't want to spend a ridicules amount of time looking through PDFs, and books. Anyone have another site besides the one I listed for list of spells/feats/classes nicely organized?

I can't find any 3.5 materials on WOTC site as well.

There's a project to collect and archive all the 3.5 web enhancements somewhere around here, but I can't find the link at the moment.

Generally, any site that lists everything is going to be infringing on copyright, which isn't exactly something we should be discussing (see: all the locked dndtools threads from the past 24 hours, plus the one that got moved and is no longer accessible).

I'd really like to know why that one was so darn special. I had posts in there I'd like to access, but unlike all the other locked threads, that one's just GONE. If the threads really are getting locked due to discussion of [the blatantly inferior mortal enemy of ninjas -- I'm not even sure we're allowed to use the name any more] by some posters...that was a tiny portion of the posts. *sigh*

Priority. It was locked by the new mods, and it sounds like it's been moved to the moderator only segment of the forum for full review. Once protocol and precedent have been seen to, then that protocol and precedent will be applied to every other thread about dnd tools.

You could always PM a moderator and ask for quotes of your own posts or anything specific, although with the whole thread being about piracy in one way or another I doubt it. I'm unclear on whether HTTrack is against forum policy.

Rofl you reminded my of a adult title i seen in a bargain bin at the last anime convention I went. "The booty worth plundering" (unrelated to topic)

Yeah I understand that this isn't ideal. I'm sure that I am not the only person though that would like to know of an online database that is currently available for use if any. Like I said I own a few books and what I can't find I have PDF. It just so time consuming. I also just called wotc just to complain about not having a data base that refers to their 3.5 materials. (I found out I wasnt the only one) I mean they used to have one but its gone.

Honestly, it is not possible to have a database for materials; it's very existence is a copyright issue unless all you want is name and page number.

The whole thread wasn't about the "rogues of the sea" in one way or another. I was just lambasting WotC, laying out their history of using this practice only once they had given up on 3E sales, and calling for a boycott. We should be able to have a thread to register our disgust and anger at the company for their actions. Many people were taking that track, only a few were doing as you say. I'd prove it by linking to the locked thread, but...I can't.

At least Id like to ask everyone in dnd 3.5 to call and voice their complaints to wotc about not having an available database/resource on their website for 3.5 materials. Man on the phone from wotc said the best way was email. They say they can do it over the phone as well.

Hell, even name and page number would be an improvement on nothing. Not, obviously, as useful as one that told you enough to know whether you actually wanted to look it up, but still. Digging through dozens of books is a horribly dysfunctional way to prep for a game.

It's funny, in a dark way - "It's not like WotC is going to come take your 3.5 books away!" has been a common response to complaints. Except now ... they kind of did. Good luck starting a 3.5 game with people who don't happen to have the books; I'm certainly not looking forward to the prospect.

One thing worth noting is that dndtools helps us from beyond the grave! On the google search results page, you can still see what book spells and feats are from (sadly, you can't do the same for classes for some reason or another):

Yeah, I recently got a new group to start playing, and while not all of them were wholly invested in the characters building, there was that one pair who mulled over every feat, skill point, level up, and spell choice like they'd never play the character again (which I think one of them actually believed, as he was about to delete the mythweavers sheet when the character died).

One of them has just now noticed the whole thing and has voiced considerable amounts of concern. The other, when informed of this, was both upset at the event and the fact that I wouldn't allow him to take things without me being able to read them first.

Unfortunately, thats not really any more helpful then what the tables that you can find in the WotC archives were.

Largely, the real value of that site was for spell-referencing, as actual book diving would take hours for any class. and even longer for any caster planning to deal with heroics. Being able to see mostly accurate consolidated class lists helps

This (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?364374-TRAGEDY-HAS-STRUCK!-%28Possibly-%29) thread should help with your second question.

As to your first question: there are other resources out there, but I cannot link to them here for obvious reasons.

Dunno if it was covered in that thread, but wotc never actually deleted the articles, just moved them to a archive.wizards.com subdomain. You can find them all here (archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/arch/dnd)

The Mod Radiant: I'm leaving this thread open for now, but tread carefully. Keep the discussion to legal sources of indexes and lists. Nothing with full text of non-OGL material, no discussion of resurrecting the recently closed site, and especially no piracy.

I'm fairly certain that WotC has a class and feat index on their site. Not sure about spells.

IIRC there is a spells one, but its so poor as to be worthless.

Which is annoying because paladin and ranger had later books redeem their spell lists

There's also the Guide to Free D&D (http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=513.0), which compiled a list of the free web enhancements. Note that many of the links still have www.wizards instead of archive.wizards; you'll probably have to fix that yourself. It's still extremely useful, and the list is well-organized.

Feat, class, and PrC indices. Here's the links to the archived versions:

http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/lists/feats

http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/lists/class

http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/lists/prc

And here's an archived index of spells from the PHB and Spell Compendium:

http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/lists/spells

Limited, but I wouldn't say worthless.

Oh, wow, I didn't know those existed. Thanks for linking them, I have a new place to search for a particular item's source.

{scrub the post, scrub the quote}

It would certainly help with dragmag content, but would be good for feats/spells as well.

I personally only used DnDtools for the obscure stuff, like the Marshal class out of that miniatures handbook. I use this website (http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Main_Page) (fully OGL/SRD compliant) for the majority of my inquiries, and I've found that other questions can be semi-answered using the "Tome of ____" compilations, like Tome of Feats.

Only caution for that site is it hosts homebrew stuff, and sometimes the distinction can be a bit blurry...make sure to check if you're not sure if it's actually WotC material instead of some-dude-called-Jimbo material.

the easy way to check that is by scrolling to the bottom of the page and checking the sorting
