Elvish/Dwarven quaterstaff!

According to the rules for elves they "treat any weapon with the word "elven" in its name as a martial weapon". Note that it doesn't say, they CAN do so, but rather that they MUST do so. RAW this means that Elves who only have simple proficiency(such as wizards) cannot wield elvish weapons(presumably made for elves), but can wield it if it was made by anyone else. A human can wield a elvish quaterstaff is more proficient than the elf that the weapon was made for. (This is of course, also true for the dwarf, as he has a similar ability).

Except that there is no such weapon as the Elven Quarterstaff, and racial weapons are fairly tightly restricted to exotic weapons.

This only refers to weapons that have Elven as part of their proper/complete name.
The Elven Curve Blade (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/equipment---final/weapons/weapon-descriptions/curve-blade-elven) is the only "elven" weapon currently in existence.

Compared to the Dwarves, who get about 8 racial weapons. Or the Orcs who also only get _1_.

Incorrect! Orcs also get proficiency with the Torch and Laser Torch! Both of which are already martial! :smalltongue:
