So since the official DM screen isn't out yet, and the one GF9 has for HotDQ is alright, I am considering making one of my own.

I've started researching other homebrewed screens, and was curious what information you all would consider important enough to have on a screen.

So far I have

1: Action Types
2: Conditions
3. Common Save DCs
4. Typical formulas (spell DC calculation, etc) - I play with a bunch of brand new players so good to have quickly on hand
5. Cover and Movement rules

What else would you want on your screen?

I'm currently using this one (http://www.reddit.com/r/DnD/comments/2huj3y/another_dd_5e_dm_screen/) and it's serving me well.

I'm more concerned with construction. The two binder trick is unwieldy and too tall to see over. I'm considering tack board.

Give a copy of what you have to the players as handouts.

Also add on any House rules that you may have.

Leave a section open and have someone not at the game put a sticky note there that is cover I g up another sticky note that has an evil/creepy joke. When you need to freak out the players uncover the stocky note and read it... Laugh... And watch the players be freaked out. Rolling dice right before this helps too ;)

I use two CD cases, glued/taped together, with inserts printed of the things that I want on it. Folds up nice and small, keeps things organized, sturdy as heck, and has plenty of room in it while closed up for a bunch of notes so that I don't lose them between sessions. I saw someone post something similar on a different forum and I liked the idea. After customizing it to my tastes and using it for a few sessions, I absolutely LOVE it, far far more than a traditional screen which I always considered too big.

edit:
Took a minute, but I found the one that I used as a base for mine.

get a cardboard box from the ups store or post office. easy to work with if you have a boxcutter and some tape, and it can be any shape you want it to be. just print out and tape any info you need onto it.

ProTip:
When connecting the two cases, tape one side first, then super glue between the two, allowing it to dry and set before continuing construction. The thing is solid as a rock when done this way.

I made one out of office supplies: A couple of file folders glued together and cut to height. I use some fold-back clips to hold sheets to it that I change around as needed.

Since we're talking structure as well, I use this (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1930855591). It's smaller than the multiple binders and puts the pages in a landscape perspective. It's pretty good.

1. Buy Risk game with the little soldier figures in it at Goodwill
2. Unfold the board halfway (as it is cut into 6 sections)
3. Tape up the three sections that are visible since you only half unfolded it
4. There you go, new DM screen. Lightweight, durable, just the right height.

I love this idea - especially the compactness and easy to travelness of it.

Edit - And yeah, construction is also a concern of mine, especially since the specific DM Screen on Amazon that is customizable is expensive.

Just spent 2 hours at work cutting boxes and using this. Awesome! Thanks for the link.

I used heavy duty page protectors so I could slide in and out what I wanted.

I also made an excel spreadsheet for my player's basic info.

On the flip side I just put in some cool D&D pictures I found on the web.

Wow, that CD case idea is incredible. I may have to make one of those for my traveling DM kit.
