I've heard people mention this on several forums, and a couple of my friends have mentioned this a couple times as well, but I've never been able to find anything on it.
Are virtual size categories a set rule in one of the D&D books, or is it a houserule?
(Didn't know where to put this, so I put it here incase it is a houserule.)

I believe virtual size categories were first introduced in Craig Cochrane (aka Upper_Krust)'s Immortals Handbook (http://immortalshandbook.com/). It's a third-party book designed as an accessory to epic-level play.

It's usually applied to older categories of dragons. The categories themselves are Collosal +, ++, +++, etc. I guess you could also have Tiny-, --, ---, etc., though.

Just as an amusing aside, my gaming group has decided that the size category above Colossal is "Big."
