I was wondering how an item such as orange prism Ioun stone would affect Dragonfire Adept. Considering a prestige class that increases arcane caster level grants increased capacity with invocations as well as breath weapon damage, Would items that increase caster level also increase breath weapon damage?

Nope! Breath Weapon damage isn't explicitly tied to caster level, so just increasing caster level won't help. You have to actually add new invocations to include increases in breath weapon damage.

Definitely not. That would be like caster level increases increasing sneak attack on a rogue.

So adding caster levels with items etc. has no practical effect. It's a shame how little support exists for the class. Thanks for the input.

It has the practical effect of increasing the caster level of your invocations. That can certainly be relevant.

You may be interested in the Dragon Spirit Cincture from Magic Item Compendium, which increases your breath weapon damage by 1d6 and, if you are wielding a weapon that does energy damage of the same type (such as a 600 gp dragonfang weapon from Draconomicon), increases the save DC by 1 as well.

I realize that it does have [B]some[B] effect on invocations, but it is no where near the impact it has on spells. Significant increase of damage/range/duration etc. And yes the dragon spirit cincture seems to be the best and only item targeted at the class. The class came out much to late in the edition to receive any love. But to be honest it doesn't need a lot to still be a fun class to play. Thanks for the reply.
