Awakened Shield Guardian?

This is a hypothetical question, being as I don't have any characters capable of casting 9th level spells - yet.

Assume you have a shield guardian for which you are in undisputed possession of the control amulet. Unlike most constructs, as I'm sure you are aware, the shield guardian is not controlled by its master so much as it is by its amulet - and thus it is already 'independent' of its creator and the spellcaster.

Would a shield guardian who was the recipient of an awaken construct spell remain under the control of the linked amulet?

Constructs are bound to its creator by the ritual used to create them. Awaken makes them self-aware and because they can act independently and refuse to follow your orders, the "binding" is arguably gone. So if the "binding" to its creator is removed with awaken, what chance of a "binding" to an amulet have?
