View Full Version : Dealing Nonlethal Damage at Range

So far I've found the Merciful trait I can put on, having my ranged weapon be a +1 weapon, which is good. Any other ways to stack on nonlethal damage to your attacks? I had planned to use a dip in Justiciar until I found his features are melee only. I am also aware of Nonlethal Substitution for spells.

The I'm pretty sure that is about it. Other than taking a penalty of -4 to attacks (melee only) and Subduing Strike (melee only, also converts Rouge SA to Nonlethal)

I believe bolas will also do non-lethal, but sadly I suspect most of the ranged thrown nonlethal weapons will be exotic.

Lassos and Bolas can be used to trip at range, though, and Nets can limit an opponent's movement, though less than being prone would, and their ability to avoid being hit by attacks. Though if they're prone it does get harder to hit them with ranged attacks if you really don't want to get near 'em.

Don't whips technically count as ranged? I mean you are 15ft away.

I seem to remember that under the rules of version 3.0, the whip was a ranged weapon. However, under 3.5 rules, the whip is a one-handed, exotic mêlée weapon with a 15-foot reach that shares some traits of ranged weapons. For example, you don't threaten any space when you use a whip, and when you use it, you provoke attacks of opportunity from enemies who threaten you.

Blunt arrows were reprinted in Races of the Wild.
Bloodhound's Kid Gloves ability allow you to deal nonlethal damage without restriction, which sets it apart from the others.
