Alright. So the SRD says
A zombie retains all the natural weapons, manufactured weapon attacks, and weapon proficiencies of the base creature.

Let's take a Human Fighter and make him a zombie. Does our walking heap of meat now have Fighter proficiencies, or Humanoid (Human) proficiencies (which he'd get anyway by virtue of undead type, but you get the point)?

The zombie is assumed proficient in any weapon mentioned in it's stat block or fluff description. So for your human fighter, you'd give it proficiency with whatever weapons it was holding in death, or whatever the animating caster put in the thing's hands before casting animate dead.

Well, that opens up some necromancy options. Kill a guy holding on to a catapult, raise him, and voila, you began the creation of your zombie siege engineer corpse.

I had a great CR 2 encounter that involved a long room that the door opened to face 4 zombies with heavy crossbows. It was a trap set up to cover a necromancer's rear while he went deeper into a crypt. 4 bolts at whoever first opens the door, then they drop their bows and attack with their natural weapons.

Hmm, what if the Fighter took an Exotic Weapon Proficiency feat? The Zombie loses all feats and benefits derived from class levels, so would he lose it?
