View Full Version : Greenlopen-Temple Knights (IC)

You are all within the Temple Knight HQ located slightly north of the market place, it is mid-day. There are a few other Temple Knights gathered around. The room is full of chairs facing forward towards the heavy-set second in command named Alfred Woolocks (wool-locks)

Alfred, in an apparent rage screams at you all "There has been FIVE muggings and THREE shops have been stolen from today alone! What do we have to show for it?! NOTHING! Have you just been sitting on your asses or something? You're Temple Knights for Cuthbert's sake! At least act like it. Thankfully SOMEONE has done something productive today. " He recovers his composure and brushes back what little hair he has on his head and continues. I was able to aquire some intel on a plan to highjack the dwarven mithril shipment that is to be coming through on the east side of town just outside the city limits. In five hours. I want you all to prevent this at all costs. Should the enemy prove hostile, you have permission to use deadly force. HOWEVER! I want you to bring back at least one of them, preferably someone other than a plain grunt back alive for questioning. I will not tolerate failure. DISMISSED!

Draga walks out of the office(?) with his fellow knights. He starts in with a language that you would never expect from a half-orc unless you had been around Draga for awhile. "Some intel... it's about time. You'd think that we were the only ones doing anything in this place." Draga thinks for a second, then continues, "The captain said we should leave in 5 hours, but perhaps it would be best if we left now and escorted the caravan into town. If you're going to attack a caravan, why wait until it's almost to town?"

Kyace
2007-03-27, 06:01 PM
The elf Arafin, effortlessly keeps up with the other knights. "Why rush for five hours to meet a caravan we don't know how to find when we know where the ambush will be? Lets get us a good meal and hang out just east of the city. We'll be able to catch the caravan there without running two hours out then marching three hours back." Arafin shuffles the bow and the backpack on his back and thinks for a moment. "Besides, if we catch the robbers too far from the city, we might be out of jurisdiction. We might have to rough them up then drag them back into town as it is."

OOC Edit: Do we all already know each other?

Joanna has remained silent ever since entering the office, and the slight twist of her mouth is the only immediate sign of her irritation. "Yes, it would be unwise to allow ourselves to be ambushed when we don't know how strong the enemy is." She glances at Draga. "We should try and prevent the hijacking instead of hiding away until they make the first move. The longer we stay out to the east, the more time we have to investigate the area and perhaps find the criminals before they strike."

OOC:
How many of us are heading out, and where does our jurisdiction end?

Aroneth
2007-03-27, 10:59 PM
Aroneth smiles at the suggestion Joanna makes. "That seems like a good idea, well scouting the area that is. Although one can always go for good food," He grins at Arafin for a moment before putting on a more stern face, "our duty is to the fair people of this city, and to carry on Saint Cuthbert's will."

"If we can walk, they can walk. If you want to get a cart, we can ride it and they can walk behind it." Draga goes into the HQ and gets 5 sections of rope and the manacles. Once he signs for them and finds a backpack to put them in, he returns to the group. "Shall we head for food?"

Joanna (http://www.rpgwebprofiler.net/view.php?id=49593)

"Yes, we can go for food," she says in an attempt to bring Draga's mind back to the matter at hand. "And we can sit down and talk instead of loitering here. We know when and where the dwarves will be attacked, but we don't know by who, or how many there will be, or how many we will be bringing back. I can reserve a cart while the rest of you go on ahead." She hopes that the rest of the planning will not be like this -- five hours may seem like a lot now, but the shadows are starting to lengthen.

"I was thinking of using the cart as a holding cell. As long as we can take it out of the city and keep it safe, we can load the robbers into it and be able to bring them in without worrying about whether they are going to escape." She furrows her brow and taps her foot lightly on the ground. "Horses, perhaps?"

jlousivy

"Horses?" Draga replies. "From what I know, I don't think anyone here can ride a horse in battle.* If you'd like to use them to haul any prisoners, be my guest, but don't expect us to catch anyone with them. A cart won't be able to catch up with horses."

"Well, all of those arguments are thoughtful, but he said to bring at least one back. We won't need a wagon. All we need are manacles, and we already have those. So might I suggest that we have some food, and wait a while, and decide closer to when we will actually achieve it?"

Luther then rubs his pale, stubby chin thoughtfully.

Don't put spaces next to the characters, it's throwing it off. Also, if you use the "Fixedsys" font, they'll line up perfectly. Voila.

Draga charges and smashes down his longsword digging deep into the thief's shoulder as the thief screams out in pain. In response he drops his bow and draws his dagger, thrusting it between Draga's armour plates. (5 damage)

Aroneth's mace connects clearly with the thief's neck.
Aroneth easily dodges one attack from a thief while the other's attack is narrowly deflected by his armour.

Arafin parries the thief's dagger just before it connects with his face.

*snap* With a sudden grin Luther charges the thief and cleanly cuts into the thief's neck causing it to hemmorage (critical hit 16 damage)

Unless something changes drastically (due to the spot check or the thief moving), Arafin will move to the square to the north west of the running thief. (Moving up to H3 then diagonally up to K0 for a distance of 40 ft.) Once there, Arafin will attack the remaining thief with rapier. If before Arafin can move, the thief moves to a point that doesn't put him 50 more feet away from Arafin, Arafin instead tries to charge the thief. If the thief moves farther than 50 ft more + the 30 feet distance he already has, and the spot check doesn't reveal anything drastic before then, then Arafin runs after him.

If due to the spot check, the fight changes before Arafin can attack, I'll wait until then to decide what Arafin does. If Arafin fails the spot check or the spot check doesn't change the fight much, then use the above actions.

Umm, Arafin (http://www.rpgwebprofiler.net/view.php?id=49957) don't have the run feat, but has base speed of 40 ft. so 40 ft * 4 is 160 ft. If the thief has a base speed of 30 ft then 30 ft * 5 = 150 ft. Assuming we "gave chase", Arafin stands a good chance of catching him. Arafin was only 30 feet behind, so for every round we ran, Arafin should have been gaining 10 ft. At the most, Arafin should be only 20 ft away from the thief, and thats only if the dwarf was exactly opposite the thief from Arafin, if the dwarf was at an angle, then the thief is closer, maybe within rapier range, but at least in whip range.

From the caravan, "Heh heh heh.... now if only you little boys and girls would leave, I might spare your friends life..." his voice sounds sinister, tainted with malice.

Thief: "WHAT'S GOING ON?! I GIVE UP!" free action: fall prone.

Joanna, make a will save, DC 17.

initiative:

???(18+)
Luther(18)
Draga(17)
Thief(8-16)
Arafin(7)
Joanna(4)
Aroneth(2)

(I'll get the grid up here in just a bit), general situation: caravan stoped moving now, it is about 30 feet away from the first group. The caravan is 20 feet in length with an enterance on the front and back)

Arafin (http://www.rpgwebprofiler.net/view.php?id=49957).

Since Arafin doesn't see the eyes and since the thief has already ignored several chances to give up before attacking us, running away and attacking an unarmed dwarf (which luckily wasn't real), Arafin will move up to the thief and attack with the rapier nonlethally. "For your own good, stay down. You've already used up most of my good graces."

[roll0] +8 normal tohit, +4 to attacking someone prone and -4 for attacking with nonlethal.

Luther (http://www.thetangledweb.net/profiler/view.php?id=11607)

Luther rushes over to 10 feet from the eyes if possible, steathes his sword, and if possible, pull his lantern in an attempt to shed some light on the situation.

With the light of the lantern you see the inside of the caravan, it has a couple small piles of mithril, but definitely not enough for a full shipment. You do however see several boxes with something written on them in a language you do not understand.
You also see an old frail man dressed in black robes, they have orange symbols on them. From what you manage to see of his face, it seems like it has been deformed in some way, like a freak burning accident. In his right hand is a quarterstaff. You see a slight sparkle of silver underneath his robes.

Arafin lunges his rapier at the downed thief, stabbing the caravan right next to the thief's head, in response the thief cries out again "PLEASE DON'T HURT ME! I GIVE UP!! I GIVE UP!!"

(note if you think you should be in a different spot. state it in your next post. but be reasonable, i know none of you are ON the caravan or behind it right now :smalltongue: )

Arafin (http://www.rpgwebprofiler.net/view.php?id=49957).

"Fine, stay down, but so help me, if you try to hurt another unarmed passerby or try to run again, you won't even see the inside of a jail cell."
Turning back toward the rest of the team, "Anyone have some rope on hand?"

Assuming Arafin can see the robed man, he turns toward him and says "Sorry about the trouble sir, we'll be out of your way in a moment."

Joanna (http://www.rpgwebprofiler.net/view.php?id=49593)

Her head still buzzing from the attack, Joanna moves up to the caravan. "Not at hand, sorry," she says as she searches for the source of the energy that hit her. She frowns as she notes the contents of the wagon*. After the vanishing dwarf she's not surprised that things aren't as expected, but who knows whose hands the cargo has fallen into? She recoils slightly as she sees the stranger's ruined face. "He is not our friend. What did you do to me?"

Move to I5, ready action: If the stranger does anything funny (ie. begins to makes a non-physical attack), move around the caravan until I'm out of line of sight. Also, if I can use it here, Sense Motive (+8 mod). What are your rules for making skill checks?
(*If the writing is Dwarfish she can understand it, and if it's in a language that uses the Dwarfish alphabet she can read it but not understand it.)

Spellcraft check to identify the spell (if it was a spell)?

Draga moves to the back of the caravan. "I would suggest you not try that again," he says as he readies his weapon.
