Dragon Familiar + Dragon cohort

I am making a sorcerer focused on draconic abilities in a No WBL non optimized game so no need to super cheesey it up. I have been reading the dragon books and decided i wanted a dragon companion and saw dragon familiar and dragon cohort. The familiar is good as i can make my gold dragon able to lift me up and fly me around but they do not level so later in the game he will be more put to the side where i want him to be a constant buddy of mine. Could i get both abilities and use my already existing dragon familiar as my cohort to level with me?

No it doesn't work that way. You'd end up with two dragons. which is till fun. Take the alternate class feature that replaces your familiar with an animal companion than take obtain familiar, and then you could end up with 3 dragons. although that's very feat intensive.

If you can get a dragon Animal Companion and a dragon Familiar (or Special Mount) there is a feat that lets you stack those abilities on one creature.
