Wonder how the playground would hit a DC 30 for a homebrewed craft skill at lv 4. I would like it to not be a build but would be open to hearing anything.

Cleric, level 4, 7 ranks in the craft skill, +2 int mod, +2 tool, a single casting of guidance of the avatar. Baseline +31, no roll needed.

If you don't want to be a cleric, just buy a potion of GoTA.

Other things you can throw around if your DM dosn't like the duration of GoTA and specifies the spell has to be in effect for 8 hours.

Magecraft - +5 to a craft check.
Divine insight, CL 8 - +13 to any check

Take 10.

Now you are looking at a 38 without really trying.

Guidance of the Avatar (https://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=dnd/sb/sb20010504a) gives a +20 competence bonus to a skill check. That alone plus one rank required to use Craft (homebrew) will let you hit a DC 30 by level 3.

+2 Masterwork tools, +2 to ability score from magic item, +2 Favored in Guild feat, +3 Skill Focus feat, +4 from having an 18 ability score to start. Add the seven skill ranks and you should be able to hit DC 30 by taking ten.

step 1: max ranks. 7
step 2: have highest int 4
step 3: skill focus (craft skill) 3
step 4: buy potions of magecraft spell (eberron book) which gives a +5 competence bonus to next check
step 5: buy a wand of Improvisation at CL 10 (+5 luck bonus)

so you have 7 ranks +3 feat+4 ability +5 competence +5 luck = +24 take 10.

You can also get some assistants to give you a +2 bonus each by using Aid Another.

Cleric is the way to go for quick mastery of crafting. Take the Craft and Artifice domains; one gives you Skill Focus for free, and the other just gives +4.

Since it's a class skill, you should have 7 ranks. Assume that you have a vaguely competent assistant using Aid Another (+2) and a masterwork tool (+2). Add in the ability to take 10 (which the Craft skill has already), and all you need is a minimum of Int 14, and you're golden. This doesn't even need spells!

7 ranks, Skill Focus and cast Skillful Moment. Exactly a 30.
Edit: assuming DM material is allowed, if not, I upvote last post.

truenamer 1/ factotum 3

7 ranks,
20 int (race =+2 int) for +5
universal aptitude +5
inspiration +3
+2 tool
+5 item (2500g)

total of 27 without any problem

if you want it classless...

7 ranks
5 from stat
+2 tool
+5 item
skill focus the thing +3
take 10

Or marshal 1. You can add your charisma to all int checks.

Also note the feat Laborious Training can net you 2 more available ranks in all int skills for another +2.

Hmm. Ancient Unseelie Fey Human Cloistered Cleric 3/Marshal 1. Artifice and Craft domains, substitute domain Knowledge for Forge (from Dragonlance). 18s in Intelligence and Charisma. Increased stat to Intelligence. Feats are:

Flaw for Academic Priest
Least Dragonmark (making) and Skill Focus (Diplomacy) at 1st
Favored at 3rd
Primary Contact at 4th (replaces Skill Focus from Marshal)

8 (ranks)
6 (Intelligence)
3 (Skill Focus)
4 (artifice domain)
2 (forge domain)
2 (dragonmark)
6 (minor aura)
+31

The only spell involved lasts days per level and you hit 30 every time, even when distracted or threatened and with no tools, expending no resources to do so. Sure, your Strength and Constitution are 1 (Dexterity is 4), but it's worth it, right?
