So I might be late to the party but I've been hearing a bit of buzz around a Steam platformer called Freedom Planet. It seems to be a sonic game that is doing its damnedest to capture everything I loved about the retro 2D sonic games.

But my heart has been broken so many times (and trodden on by Boom) so now I'm leery. Has anyone played it who can assuage my fears? Should I put this on my wishlist for the holidays?

Jesse Cox put out a video of two and a half hours gameplay footage, which you might be interested in watching.

Doing Sonic better than Sonic isn't a challenging proposition at this point...

I saw this a short while ago on GOG, it looks quite cool, but is the sort of thing I probably wouldn't play much on PC. If it gets an eshop/xbla/psn release I'll probably grab it.

I'm actually going to avoid that because the storyline seems kinda interesting and I want to see it for myself. But it does sound like he likes it which is a definite plus.

You know - there's a lot of indie releases on Steam that I think could take off on console arcade. Why isn't this happening more? (*glances briefly at Binding of Isaac and One Finger Death Punch*)

Binding of Isaac Rebirth is on PS4/Vita. The original was planned for 3DS eshop but Nintendo didn't like the look of it.
