How do the two comparel in power?

How easy would Alchemist be to retrofit in 3.5?

Artificer is far, far more powerful than the Alchemist.

Alchemist is a lot simpler to play however, and requires a bit less planning because you don't need items to Infuse, you just pop a cork and drink your problems away.

Artificer is really easy to put in 3.5, just split the skills back up.

This, pretty much. The power difference is quite vast and it's easy to back-port.

Artificer is one of the harder classes to port to PF due to how craft changed, forcing changes to their craft reserve (do you give them a straight up WBL boost? Do you remove it? Do you impose a limit on how much of the reserve can be used on an item?) but alchemist is very easy to put in 3.5.

There are two main issues with porting it to 3.5:
1: There's no "alchemist" spells in 3.5 so you have to a: add non-core 3.5 spells to their list 2: port PF spells alongside them 3: leave them at a huge and unfair disadvantage and leave them with just core spells (worst of the three)
2: Beastmorph is tricky due to polymorph changes (but it's just an ACF, though a really useful one for melee alchemists)
