Is there an example published in 3.5 official sources of a staff, only instead of it having 50 charges it can cast spells X times per day? Doesn't matter which spells or which source, I'm just trying to see if they priced it as the custom item creation rules would indicate (kind of like how they did with Eternal Wands relative to normal wands).

Edit: also, wasn't there an enchantment or item mod somewhere that would let one hide a blade on a staff, and then be able to have it spring out? (can't remember if it was more a spear blade or a scythe blade)

Are Runestaffs (MiC 176-182) what you're looking for? They have a selection of spells on each which can be cast using charges per day from the staff and a spell slot.

I think that's closer to the Eternal Wands, which are indeed priced as custom magic items.

No, just regular staffs, except with charges per day rather than normal charges which you spend until they're gone. Any examples anywhere in published 3.5?

Step 1: Get Eternal Wand.
Step 2: Place inside staff with wand chamber
Step 3: ????
Step 4: Profit!

As has been noted, Eternal Wands are the closest thing to what you're after, but you might also be interested in Minor Schemas (Magic of Eberron), which can have up to level 6 spells in them. They can only be activated by casters (or UMD monkeys), and they function once per day.
