Need Help pricing an item

Ring of Self-Sacrifice
This ring allows the wearer to help others, but at the cost of some of their own life energy. The wearer of a ring of self-sacrifice can cast the spells restoration and cure critical wounds at will, but they automatically receive a negative level each time they do so. These negative levels remain in effect for 7 hours before disappearing.

According to the formulas in the DMG/SRD, I think it comes out to 233,000gp, but I personally think that's far too high.

Ehh, that seems a bit harsh for BOTH effects- the Cure Critical Wounds should just incur HP loss on the user.

well, it's a negative level, not a level drain (they're different), and I structured it so that the negative levels can never cause level drain.

Yeah, but I still say that seems extreme. (It's an okay loss for restoration,a s that can restore lost levels via drain and such, but...) Either way, as it stands I certainly wouldn't pay 233,000 for it. I'd say it's too expensive.

Edit: Maybe 200,000 straight up... But come to think of it I really need to read up on item pricing again.

At those affects? Maybe 20K. You give up a level for most of the adventuring day. For what? A CSW. Not worth it really even at 20K. And really not worth it at 233K.

I like the flavor of this. (I'm all about power at a price) but, yeah. 233k? not a chance. I worked out a "cursed item" price calculator once... Unfortunately lost in the great hard-drive nose-dive of a year or so back. I can't remember exactly how it would go, but 20K does sound about right, though in my opinion, it's the sort of thing that would be found in a loot pile and then be pretty darned hard to sell.

I like it. I dunno about pricing, but 20k sounds about right to me too. Maybe even a tiny bit higher, restoration is a powerful spell. Maybe something more like 25k. I dunno.
