Just curious how this'd work in 3.5:
Say you have a Fighter with both Exoticist ACF and Thug ACF.

Exoticist says the following:

Bonus Feats: The Exoticist gains bonus feats as
the normal fighter class does, but the Exoticist must
select bonus feats from the following list (gives a list)

Then Thug says:

Bonus Feats: A thug doesn't gain the normal fighter bonus feat at 1st level. Also, add Urban Tracking to the list of fighter bonus feats available to the thug.

Do they modify the same feature and thus not stack? Or how does it work?

By RAW, Thug is a variant class, not an alternate class feature. Alternate class features for the fighter can't be applied to it unless a specific exception is given.

Ahh i see... So since its not actually a "fighter" but a "Thug" that has alot of similarities with the fighter class, it therefore doesnt qualify for any fighter ACF's. Good to know

To be precise, it can be combined with exactly one Fighter ACF:

Some fighters prefer stealth and cunning over martial skill. This variant can also be combined with the thug variant.

Gain
Sneak attack (as rogue).

Lose
Bonus feats.

Edit: However, in some settings, Thug may replace Fighter completely, which could make it valid. (In this case, bonus feats "as the normal fighter class" would not include a bonus feat at 1st level.)

With your DM’s permission, you can use any one of these variant classes in place of the standard class of the same name. Depending on the campaign world, variant classes may exist side by side with standard classes, or they may replace standard classes entirely. For instance, the DM may decide that all monks must choose a fighting style that reflects their original training, or that all barbarians must choose a totem.

It's also pretty easy to combine variants, much as the Pathfinder rules allow you to combine archetypes that don't conflict. Ask your DM.

Barring the issues with your example, as long as the ACFs don't replace the same things, they're kosher.

TDC is correct... you can "trade out" your features for ACF's as long as you have them to trade. If one ACF requires a first level feat, and a second requires a skill to be given up, you can combine.

However, if one requires a first and third feat, and the other requires a skill penalty and a third level feat, you can't combine.

You can combine ACFs, but neither Thug nor Exoticist is an ACF; they're both variant classes. Whether you can combine variants in general or just the ones that specifically allow it isn't mentioned in the rules, as far as I know, so you'd have to ask your DM.

The main points of contention between the Exoticist and Thug..Exoticist gives up martial weapon proficiency. Thug gives up shield proficiency, and medium and armor proficiencies.

Also, bonus feats that apply to specific kind of weapon must be applied to exotic weapon that exoticist is prof. with.
