Secret chest + spell-like ability will always ensure your spell book is safe unless your DM is a huge *ssh*le and says an ethereal creature chanced upon it and looted it.

But if archmages don't remove spell foci, then this combo is pointless.

By RAW it removes components, and makes no mention of foci. So... does it remove the spell foci requirement? Or do foci don't fall under "components?"

The archmage does not use any components when casting the spell,

It acts as a standard spell-like ability (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/specialAbilities.htm#spellLikeAbilities) (no components at all - no verbal, somatic, material, focus, or XP) except where otherwise noted in the specific entry (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/prestigeClasses/archmage.htm#highArcana) (which puts back the standard XP costs, and adds an XP cost for things with expensive material components).

So yeah, that works fine.

Sweet, alright, thanks! Just had to be sure before spending a day or two planning an entire build around that concept.
