I've been toying for a while with the idea of doing a one shot or even possibly a full campaign that takes place wholly or mostly inside of a construct(beyond colossal in size category).

I'm just wondering if there is any precedent on if this has been done before or mechanics of building one of this scale in DnD(3.5E)

I'd love some ideas for encounters or events to happen within the construct itself. I have a couple of ideas, but I would love to see what people might think would be fun.

Thanks.

Bionicle is literally this. They live inside a giant construct body.

Ah, someone beat me to it. I played around for a while with the concept of a campaign following the Bionicle storyline, but I let it drop because my group is more into the fantasy side of D&D, and the premise is a little too sci-fi for them.

Anyway, poking around the Bionicle storyline is a good way to get ideas, most of which aren't too hard to convert to D&D. You can find a lot of it at the BS01 Wiki (http://biosector01.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page).

Clash of the Kingslayers is a module from Paizo.

At the beginning the dungeon is not alive but as the PCs continue to explore and advance the dungeon starts to move A LOT.

Ah, you beat me to it. But your img link (https://www.acaeum.com/ddindexes/modpages/modscans/cm4.jpg) didn't work?

For those of you who've never heard of it, the Earthshaker is a castle-sized humanoid robot-golem-thing, run by a clan of dwarfs. IIRC, the entire adventure is based around trying to stop it from the inside. (It has some nice details, like everyone inside needing to secure themselves every time it takes a step.)

Elder Evils has the Leviathan, which is a dungeon taking place in a giant sea monster. Actually, IIRC, it is in one spike of a giant sea monster. That has thousands of spikes.

I recommend Dragonmech, which has mechs large enough to house entire cities. ANd I'm not talking about mechs you could find in an anime, these are great lumbering constructs that have none of that elegance. Not surprising, considering that they are mostly steampowered.

Stronghold Builder's Guide should be perfect if you have access to it.

There was an adventure of this sort in issue 97 of Dungeon called "Heart of the Iron God" for 13th level characters. It was 3.0 not 3.5, but the updating should be super minor.

You can refluff a Genius Loci (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/epic/monsters/geniusLoci.htm)-turned-demiplane as a construct, or add various constructy bits to it.
