Hinjo has an awesome sword. Paladin, with a black katana. So damn cool.

But is it just me, or is it actually more of a greyish color in today's (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0433.html) strip? I hope there is some reason, or it changes back, because it is definitely nowhere near as cool.

I wonder if this puts any more light as to the metal the sword is made out of now that we know it's really dark grey and not black. It think the two biggest possibilities were either adamantine or cold iron.

Yeah, it definitly looks black in the Miko/Hinjo duel, whereas its meerly a darker grey color in today's strip.

I remember someone once speculated Hinjo's katana was Cold Iron, and added the metal was a prerequisite for creating a Holy Avenger. If that's the case, I'd hope that's what Hinjo's sword is, or will eventually be... b/c Holy Avenger sword plus Dire Wolf mount = kickass paladin.

I think it is steel, just painted or blued to prevent it from rusting.

i just thought it was to show he was cooler then miko....which wasnt hard. Really didnt see it as anything but a different colored sword

It's very likely just cold iron. If you look back at Haley's fights with Sabine, you'll see that haley's cold iron arrows have the same colors as Hinjo's sword. Also, most chaotic extraplanar creatures can have their damage reduction penetrated by cold iron.

In the fight with Miko, Hinjo's sword is, in fact, black. However, Miko's is the normal gray, so you can't assume it's lighting changing te color.

What if the sword is made of Obsidian? Hmm, I don't even know what Obsidian is, I just remember it from a book Trilogy (Dragon Weather I think). And it's black.

I've always figured that it was an adamantine katana. From what I've read on Wkipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adamantine), adamantine is often described has being black in color. Besides, it'd be extremely cool and fits with Hinjo's general badassness.

Forging an adamantine katana mustve been a ridiculously hard, though.... how much heat would you need to bend a nigh-indestructible metal?
