So, I'm just gonna copy over the text from the other thread... (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?365653-MtG-You-Make-the-Card-Challenge!)

Rather than having a weekly contest with many entries and judging and a winner being declared who makes the next contest, instead everyone is a contestant, a judge, and the creator of the next contest all at once!

Each post should contain a short critique of the card made by the poster before them, a card that meets the challenge posted by the poster before them, and a new challenge for the next poster to take on.

Other contests:
You Make the Card (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?365285-MtG-You-Make-the-Card-III-Wrath-of-the-Khans)
You Make the Mini-Set! (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=284678)

There is no time limit on when a challenge can be met, and no restriction on how often you can post other than that you can't fulfill your own challenges. If two people respond to the same challenge, the next poster simply picks which of those to judge and meet the challenge of, though if you're up to it you could also try fulfilling both challenges at the same time, assuming that's possible.

As with the other challenges, cards should be submitted in text format, like so:

Card Name Mana Cost
Type - Subtype Rarity
Card Text
Flavor Text
Power/Toughness

For example:

Giant Spider 3G
Creature - Spider C
Reach (This creature can block creatures with flying.)
"It has a quickness about it that seems unnatural for its large size, yet its hunger is about right."
—Endril, Kalonian naturalist

Who are You and What did You do to Magic?
http://media.wizards.com/legacy/global/images/ps_feature386_1.jpg

We're here to have fun, and having fun includes randomly making new subtypes and/or colours. The reason that this is here is that people keep on asking what they are and how they're supposed to work with them. Idols were designed originally by Fifth Column Games in their game War of Omens, and Purple was due to show up in Planar Chaos but never did. I grabbed both of these into Magic as it currently stands, and some people picked up on them.

This FAQ is to explain what exactly happens when someone's talking about "Purple" or something has the "Idol" subtype without you having a clue what that means.

Idols are probably something that Wizards can do - the idea is similar to Shrines, which happened - but purple is right up there with half-values on the Storm scale, and only half a point down from the eponymous defunct keyword. Challenges which require idols should be fine, but challenges shouldn't require purple, or at least should offer a let-out if you don't like it.

Idols and purple have their own sets and backstory which feature in some of the explanations below.

What's an Idol?

http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2013/121/4/2/styx_idol_by_aisu_isme-d63q4oo.jpg
Styx Idol by Aisu Isme

An idol is one of many shrines, icons or holy objects (including weapons and animated constructs) that fell from the Otherworld due to the actions of Speaker Trianna, a planeswalker from Veldan. They are all spiritually interlinked, and a prayer to one would call out to all nearby.

Mechanically, an idol has the following characteristics (These are the defining characteristics, these are more mutable):

It is an ARTIFACT with the IDOL subtype.
It is COLOURLESS but uses COLORED mana for its ACTIVATED ABILTITY.
It has "CCT: Energise each idol you control," where C are coloured mana. They may both be the same colours or different colours; they might be purple.
It has "When you energise ~, do something."
It might be a creature, equipment or fortification.

For example:

Idol of Life 1
Artifact - Idol C
WWT: Energise each idol you control.
When you energise idol of life, you gain 2 life.

What About purple?

http://th07.deviantart.net/fs71/PRE/i/2011/016/9/d/purple_by_edux567-d37ddmh.png
Purple by Edux

There was, originally, going to be a set with purple in it, which represented a sort of otherworldly, unnatural force. This never actually ended up happening, but the idea stuck with me. The basic land for purple was either going to be cave or city; I chose city, as it fit with Purple's unnatural, and yet all too close to home, theme.

Purple is the third colour of mana, after blue but before black - the new order is WUPBRG. The basic land for purple is City. Cities are basic lands but city isn't a basic land type; purple is a colour but purple isn't one of The Colours Of Magic. This means the following (Coalition Victory and Transguild Courier are the more interesting ones, the others act the same way they would with white)

All is Dust: Destroys purple permanents.
Alloy Golem: When you're asked for a colour, "Purple" is a valid response and the golem can become purple.
Brave the Elements: When you're asked for a colour, "Purple" is a valid response. "Protection from purple" is a valid ability.
Coalition Victory: Checks to see if you control a plains, an island, a swamp, a mountain, a forest, a white creature, a blue creature, a black creature, a red creature and a green creature. It doesn't care whether or not you have a city or a purple creature. If you have a red and purple creature, Coalition Victory sees a red creature. If you have a swamp city, it registers as a swamp.
Emrakul, the Aeons Torn: Has protection from purple permanents.
Transguild Courier: Isn't purple. It would need to say "All colours, and purple." I know that doesn't sound as though it makes sense, but it does.

What is Purple as a Personality Type?

http://th00.deviantart.net/fs70/PRE/f/2012/301/1/b/purple_rain_by_joe_maccer-d5j85do.jpg
Purple Rain by Joe Maccer

My colour is purple. I value individuality and thought, I value justice and personal benefit, I value natural and mechanical. I take what I see as the best aspects of the world out of their context, and live it to the full, but also stand by my own way of thinking with utter disregard for the opinions of others. At my best, I am innovative and a maverick. At my worst, I am debased and an outcast. Nominally, my ally colours are blue and black, and my enemy colours are green and, to a lesser extent white and red, but in reality, I could be anyone's ally and my own worst enemy.

I am purple and white. I value personal discipline and excellence. I am a natural-born leader, and work to defeat tyrannical rulers and follow my dreams, helping others whenever I can. At my best, I am charitable and inspiring. At my worst, I am proselytising and over-zealous.

I am purple and blue. I enjoy escaping to my own company and thinking about the things of this world. I am so much better at considering things I can't see than other people that sometimes people ask whether or not I am real. At my best, I am intellectual and honest. At my worst, I am pedantic and unrealistic.

I am purple and black. I am an individualist to the extreme, believing my way of doing things to be objectively correct. I get things done at an alarming rate, ignoring anyone who thinks they know better than me. At my best, I am efficient and self-sufficient. At my worst I am over-proud and egocentric.

I am purple and red. I am loud and boisterous, and prepared to go with any scheme even without support. I am usually maniacal about something, and love being free from what the rest of the world things. At my best I am independent and confident. At my worst I am destructive and hot-headed.

I am purple and green. I can lose myself in the wilds easily, and much prefer the company of the outdoors to the company of humans, though I'm not averse to taking very close friends along with me. At my best I am carefree and impassive, at my worst I am reserved and distant.

What does Purple do Mechanically? What About the Colour Combinations?

Purple does quite a lot of things, actually!

The Cards are Made Up and the Rules Don't Matter

Keep Calm and Screw the Rules by Slamtackle

"This card has flying!" "No it doesn't." "You can't bring cards back from exile!" "Oh yes I can!" "Wait, it's a sorcery and a planeswalker at the same time?" "Well, no, not the same time. It's a flip card." "EXILE TARGET LIBRARY?" "Teehee~"

There are lots of things that don't happen in magic. Things don't move about between permanent and non-permanent. Things don't eat up people's abilities like cotton candy. You don't exile entire libraries. But then, whoever heard of "Protection from everything" or a spell that repeats itself each upkeep but nigh-on bans you from playing the game? Well, Progenitus and Epic would like to say hi. Strange corners of Magic which could be visited but aren't suddenly see the light. Be inspired!

Examples:

Quijuk Acolyte 1WP
Creature - Human wizard R
1WPT, exile Quijuk Acolyte: Revivify target card. (Return a card in exile to your hand)
1/2

Quijuk Tranquil W/P
Creature - Human Monk C
Silenced (Quijuk Tranquil loses all abilities except silenced, and its equipment and auras have no effect except granting Silenced).
People say they have no emotions. All we know is that they're the ones the Quijuk allow to leave, and they're the ones who've never wanted to return.

Card Wars: The Johnny Strikes Back

http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2013/234/b/2/throw_your_cards_down_by_tempasta-d6j8bso.png
Throw Your Cards Down by Tempasta

"So then I play Crescendo, but because I cast another spell this turn, it does four damage instead of two but because I have a card with Flamestorm 1 that does another 1 damage, and it triggers Perpetual Motion so I draw a card, and then I cast Otherworld Lance, but I have a card with Accelerate so I only pay RP for it, and it does another point of damage, then I draw another card. I use Dust to Dust, draw another card with Perpetual Motion, and that exiles my graveyard, which means I use Otherworld Lance's Otherworlder cost to cast it again from exile, which does an extra point of damage from having Flamestorm, and Perpetual Motion draws another card. Okay, now it's your turn."

No-one does weenie instants or sorceries with much conviction, because they have to cantrip, and most of weenie effectiveness relies on synergy and anthems, which don't work as well with non-permanents. Solution: Have anthems which affect the spells that you cast, and have spells which synergise with other spell casts, in a sort of storm-esque way without bringing back Storm itself.

Examples:
Perpetual Motion 4UP
Enchantment - R
When you cast a spell, draw a card.

Waize Flameholder 2PR
Creature - Human Mage U
Flamestorm 1 (When a source you control would deal non-combat damage, it deals 1 more damage)
3/3

Crescendo 1PR
Sorcery U
Crescendo deals 2 damage to target creature or player.
Second Wind - Crescendo deals 4 damage to that creature or player instead if you've cast another spell this turn.

Exile!

http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2012/084/4/8/the_exile_by_lostknightkg-d4tvtal.jpg
The Exile by Lostknightkg

The exile zone is meant to be a kind of super-graveyard for cards that never come back. AWOL highlights what happened to that idea. Now, purple capitalises on the exile zone, chucking entire graveyards in and pulling them back onto the battlefield with reckless abandon.

Examples:

Otherworldly Power 4PP
Sorcery - R
Otherworldly power deals X damage divided as you wish between any number of creatures and players and you gain X life, where X is the number of cards in exile.
They may be in a better place, but they are no worse magi for that.

Void Dance 1P
Sorcery - U
Exile any number of target permanents you own.
What was ours once will be ours forever.

Seek and Destroy P
Sorcery - C
Draw a card.
Search your library for a card and exile it. Then shuffle your library.
To the Otherworld! Go!

Guild Abilities

Purgators P
Mechanics: Judgement (When a creature fighting, blocking or blocked by this creature dies, exile it), Otherworlder {Cost} (If this card is in exile, you may cast it for {Cost})

House Quijuk WP
Mechanics: Silenced (This permanent loses all abilities except silenced, and its equipment and auras have no effect except granting Silenced), Revivify (Return target card from exile to your hand)

House Kasstar UP
Mechanics: Warpstrike {cost} (When ~ becomes blocked you may pay {cost}. If you do, exile ~ and return it to the battlefield under your control, tapped and attacking.), Shift (Whenever ~ is targeted you may return it to your hand and put another creature with the same or lower converted mana cost onto the battlefield which then becomes the target instead. That card cannot Shift this turn.)

House Zelb PB
Mechanics: Isolation (Spells and abilities which effect "all" or "each" do not effect this card),
Outcast (Permanents with outcast cannot be exiled)

House Waize PR
Mechanics: Flamestorm X (When a spell you control would deal noncombat damage, it deals X more instead), Second Wind - If you've cast another spell this turn, do X.

House Gidai PG
Mechanics: Lock In (Target a card and remember what card it is); Paragon If X has the highest power among creatures you control, [effect].

Clan Trostan WPR
Mechanics: Standalone - If you control no (other) creatures, [effect]; Substitute - If there are no valid targets/you can't/no Xs are Yed in this way, [effect].

Veldan UPB
Mechanics: Conversion {Cost} (Cost, reveal ~ from your hand: Target spell you control becomes a copy of ~. If applicable, X is equal to the CMC of that spell); One Eye Open - When you draw a card, do X.

What's the Story Behind These Anyway?

Until recently, nobody had ever heard of Purple mana. How could a city, a congregation of humans who utterly destroy the land on which they live without reverence or care, be a source of mana? And yet, it was this very same left-fieldness, the selfsame strangeness, that led Trianna, a planeswalker from Veldan, to be able to draw mana from it. She realised that the power of mana on Veldan was being channeled through the creations of the people themselves.

However, Trianna's meddling did not go without consequence. Transplanar Rifts, which allowed anyone or anything to travel through, came between any plane that Trianna had visited and the planes where purple mana was more easily accessible. These rifts appeared first around the places of power, the idols, which were sucked through into the realms she had visited.

And so idols began to appear in Innistrad, Ravinica, Tarkir and Veldan. Preachers stood at the strange structures, praying for a miracle that would deliver them from their enemies. Guilds harnessed the idols' powers to wage war on another front. Clans guarded the idols as though they were sacred. And Trianna put her head in her hands and moaned.

It got worse. The purple guilds wanted their idols back. The Quijuk, responsible for ensuring morals more than law, tried to steal back their idols with minimal loss of life. The quiet and reserved Kasstar, known for their eminent dishonour, took similar tactics, while the psychotic sociopaths of house Zelb killed anyone who got in their way, where as the enraged and flagrant house Waize burned entire buildings to get what they wanted. The Gidai, masters of the hunt, assassinated anyone and everyone to return the idols of the gods. Ravinica was under assault and half of them didn't even know it.

More obvious were the Trostan clan, who ravaged across the wastes of Tarkir defying any and all to oppose them. Purgators, strange mockeries of what it means to be a free being, fought with angel and demon alike across Innistrad. And then, Trianna decided to move in, just to add to the confusion. Nobody was quite sure who was fighting whom, but Trianna was determined to stop them.

Are There Going to be Sets for These?
Yes.

I have no idea what I'm actually calling these, but they get development codenames because they do. Yes, I might actually write them all up because I'm that crazy.

Yellow: In which idols are introduced - artifact themed set. Details the story of the idols appearing; limited purple in the form of mono-purple as Purgators invade Innistrad.
Magenta: In which purple people invade Ravinica. Lots of use of guild abilities.
Cyan: Where Trostan and Veldan lay their scene. Involves three-colour purple, and lots of things cantrip or cause each other to cantrip. (Might keyword cantrip?)

The idea of the set is "Playing Magic in a different way" - Artifact decks and Everything is Cantrips allow you to take a break from creatures and makes card advantage odd, Trostan's change-the-mana-cost abilities radically change the game dynamic, and purple is... well, purple!

Let's continue the proceedings:

Relentless Justicar (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showsinglepost.php?p=18601829&postcount=1484) is weird, and not particularly white. Also, I'm not even sure how you resolve something attacking you.

Lord Inquisitor 3WR
Creature - Human Cleric R
When a human enters the battlefield under your control, put a +1/+1 counter on it, and it has haste.
3/3

Next: Make a tribal card which isn't a creature.

It is not able to and therefore wouldn't have to attack anyone.

Lord Inquisitor 3WR
Creature - Human Cleric R
When a human enters the battlefield under your control, put a +1/+1 counter on it, and it has haste.
3/3

Compare Bramblewood Paragon (http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=153139). Of course Human is a much more varied tribe than Warrior and as such a more powerful tribal. Elf Warriors were likely in that block to get spammed at human speed, however. As such I'd suggest lowering the cost and P/T to make it a little stronger or reducing its rarity.

Next: Make a tribal card which isn't a creature.

Herd the Trees 2G
Tribal Sorcery - Treefolk
Search your library for up to two forests and put one into hand and one onto the battlefield tapped.

If you control a treefolk you may play an additional land this turn.

Cast Down the Just B
Tribal Instant - Demon
Destroy target White creature unless you control a demon.

If you control a demon choose one:
Exile target White creature.
Destroy up to 2 target White creatures.

Challenge: Make something that would make Azorius (either the guild or the color combination) cry/be upset.

Beelzebub1111
2015-01-01, 09:14 PM
Pretty Good human tribal. Not that overpowered.

Prayer for Titania 3G
Tribal Enchantment - Elf R
Tap five Untapped Elf creatures you control: Target artifact's controller sacrifices it.

Nothing quite like demon tribal. I think it fits really well. It could read "If you control a demon Exile target white creature, or destroy two target white creatures. Otherwise, destroy target white creature"

Escape Artist BU
Creature - Rogue R
UB: If a creature you control would be the target of an enchantment spell, it targets Escape artist instead
At the end each turn, exile Escape Artist, then return it to the battlefield under your control.
2/3

Challenge, make a card with the "World" supertype

Jormengand
2015-01-01, 09:24 PM
Prayer for Titania: Hmm... seems to have very specialist use, which I know was intended, but might be too far. Unless you're playing against hordes of artifact creatures, or something like idols (if idols were actually a thing), then it's not going to be at all useful. That's also a lot of elves.

Escape Artist is weird, with the bad guardianesque effect and then shaking the enchantments off. Also, has no creature subtypes? Might be just as well, or Champions of the Parish might laugh their faces off, but seems odd.

The Otherworld 3PPP
Enchantment - World R
Nonland cards in exile have "Otherworlder: pay purple mana equal to this card's converted mana cost" (If a card with Otherworlder is in exile, you may pay purple mana equal to its converted mana cost. If you do, cast it)

Next: Someone who's visited the Otherworld. Maybe they thought it was interesting, or creepy, or offputting... you decide!

That is possibly one of the most exploitable cards I have seen, so far I am not liking the otherworlder ability, I do however like the idea from earlier that isolation could be purple so

Lonely shifter - 3P
Creature - shifter - U
Isolation
Whenever ~ becomes the target of a spell or ability, exile ~ and return it to the battlefield
"I walk in both this world and the other, just try to catch me"
2/2

More purple isolation

2/2

Isolation + effective shroud. I'd be inclined to say as a 2/2 for 4 it is probably fine, but it can trigger ETB effects... whenever you target it which means it's just effectively heroic except it counters the spell that would have targetted it. So yeah it's fine.

More purple isolation

What was the exact wording on Isolation ("This creature is unaffected by spells or effects which affect all, each, or every"?)
Lost Krasis (U/G)P
Creature - Fish Mutant U
Isolation
Evolve
1/2
"Specimen #104 passed through a strange rift. Twenty-six minutes later something came back... I think it had evolved." Simic biomancer on the time krasis project.

Challenge: Make something that does something neat with +1/+1 counters.

braveheart
2015-01-02, 03:14 AM
I always liked simic, and I think that is a good card, by the way isolation was actually (spells and abilities that effect "each" or "all" do not effect this perminent)

I also like new abilities so let's try this on

Siphoning - GB
Instant - C
Target creature gets siphon (damage dealt by this creature may be negated to remove a number of +1/+1 counters from the creature that would be damaged less than or equal to the amount of damage that would be dealt, then place the same number of +1/+1 counters on the creature dealing the negated damage) until the end of turn
Your power is mine

It's a bit wordy but the short is that siphon gives you the option to steal +1/+1 counters instead of dealing damage

Use siphon

I'm trying to figure out a time you would use this except as some attempt to hose Simic if they became extremely prevalent. Even then Giant Growth, Doomblade, or many other cards will be more useful as most of the time this will not really be being used to kill but instead just remove tokens and weaken a target. It might pop up occasionally to get a few tokens on a creature that is being blocked, but unless it's an elusive krasis blocking you're unlikely to get more than +1/+1 or maybe +2/+2 and again there are better common, Green, 1 drops (I forget the name of the Innistrad one with morbid). It would work maybe on a first striker, or a creature which deals direct damage, but even then it's not worth the card slot. That's before you get into Siphon's wordiness, and complicated nature and interactions with rarity.

For something conceptually similar, but more widely applicable, and useful outside of rather specific meta you might want to think about the rather more powerful effect (which likely would never see print due to mixing -1/-1 and +1/+1 counters in a single card) of "This creature deals damage in the form of -1/-1 counters. Whenever this creature deals damage to another creature put that many +1/+1 counters on this creature."

Use siphon

Darkplume Cultist 1BR
Creature - Human Cleric U
Siphon (damage dealt by this creature may be negated to remove a number of +1/+1 counters from the creature that would be damaged less than or equal to the amount of damage that would be dealt, then place the same number of +1/+1 counters on the creature dealing the negated damage)
T: Deal 1 damage to target creature.
1/1

Challenge: Make something Red. If it is dual colored add a guild keyword, if it has more than 2 colors it must have a guild keyword for each color combination of red and one of the other colors it has.

Ninjaman
2015-01-02, 09:33 AM
I like it, but the ability could be worded better, I would do this:

Rakdos Skinflayer - RB
Creature - Devil - U
Unleash
Siphon(If this creature would deal damage to a creature with one or more +1/+1 counters on it, prevent that damage, remove that many +1/+1 counters from that creature, then put that many +1/+1 counters on this creature.)
2/2

It's still way too clunky. I wanted to make it only prevent damage equal to the number of counters but that would make it even more clunky.

Make something green with flying.

Beelzebub1111
2015-01-02, 12:35 PM
Still pretty clunky. And it would be killed by the creature that has the +1/+1 counters anyway, since it would still deal its full damage.

Rakk GG
Creature - Beast U
Flying
When Rakk dies, put two 1/1 Green Beast creature tokens with flying onto the battlefield at the beginning of the next turn's upkeep.
2/2

Challenge: Something based on Borderlands

Jormengand
2015-01-02, 01:18 PM
Hmm... compare Gather the Townsfolk, and then strap it to the tail end of a 2/2 flyer in its own right. I mean, it's probably not gonna be game-changing, but... ehh.

Border Land
Land - R
Border Land enters the battlefield tapped.
Each land you control has each type among lands you control.

Seriously, though, I don't think that people are very likely to respond properly to a challenge that refers to something that most people don't know enough to answer about.

Next: As an example, I'm going to explain what my next challenge means in case anyone forgot.

Make an idol. An idol is an artifact (which is sometimes a creature or an equipment as well), and always has the idol subtype, almost always has an ability (usually costing two coloured mana and tapping) with "Energise each idol you control" and always has an ability triggered "When you energise ~".

r2d2go
2015-01-02, 09:17 PM
Interesting... makes heavy color weights much easier to deal with as long as you have basic lands. Probably balanced?

Idle Idol 3
Artifact - Idol U
T, 1UU - Energise each idol you control.
When you energise ~, you may tap target permanent.

Challenge: Make a new keyword, and a card to go with it.

Zaydos
2015-01-02, 09:48 PM
Idle Idol 3
Artifact - Idol U
T, 1UU - Energise each idol you control.
When you energise ~, you may tap target permanent.

The problem with idols is that to actually balance them at all you have to make them all at once (meaning that they'll only see use in one block at most) or standardize a minimum cost to energize them; the concept is neat but really belongs to a few tightly made horizontal cycles possibly with a WUBRG idol in a MR slot. Jorm's have been 2 mana to energize and ranged wildly in power. This would fit with a 2 mana energize cost better than most (tap creature is 1, T on creatures with it and tap permanent while stronger is not much stronger). That said even this becomes abuseable with several idols at a 2 energize cost (repeatable tapping is usually a 2 mana effect on its own).

Challenge: Make a new keyword, and a card to go with it.

Too bad you said keyword and not ability word

Golden Idol B
Artifact Creature - Construct C
Usury (whenever an opponent casts a spell you may pay B, if you do gain 1 life).
1/1

Challenge: Make an ability to represent a new multicolored faction such as a Ravnican guild or one of the Tarkir groups.

Jormengand
2015-01-02, 09:59 PM
Hmm... having the high-cost energise and not doing much other than tapping things puts it at the not-great end of the idol pool.

Keeper of the Peace 2PP
Creature - Human wizard U
2PT: Target creature gains Silenced until end of turn (Until end of turn, that creature doesn't have abilities except Silenced, and its auras and equipment don't affect it except for giving it Silence.)
Your magic has no place in this world!
1/3

So... a 1/1 which gives you bad kinda-extort? I would expect the getting life bit to be W, rather than B, but otherwise I guess that works.

Kasstar Peacekeeper 3UP
Creature - Human Diplomat
Other creatures get Silenced (They don't have abilities except Silenced, and its auras and equipment don't affect them except for giving them Silence.)
Counter each spell unless its controller pays 1.
Now, now, let's all take a moment to calm down here.
- Viander, Kasstar Peacekeeper

Next: That was fun, so make one of the other purple guilds, or another Kasstar card.

braveheart
2015-01-03, 01:15 AM
That is a very powerful ability, I think the counter ability being added on makes it a bit too strong, also you forgot it's power and toughness as well as rarity I would pay that much for the silence and a 2/2 but when you add in the counters even if it were a 1/1 it might be too cheap now let's try this challenge

Waize striker 2RP
Creature - shifter - U
RP: Warpstrike(after blockers are declared you may activate Warpstrike. This creature is exiled then returned to the battlefield tapped and attacking an opponent)
We can make it through any defense
2/1

Make anything

Jormengand
2015-01-03, 01:27 AM
Re critique, remember it affects all your stuff too.

Nice, though you should say "After the declare blockers step you may pay RP. If you do, this creature is exiled, and returned to the battlefield tapped and attacking."

Lock in is interesting, I assume that it will have other uses besides just a tutor, and I wonder what they will be.
Here we go

Lonely Outcast - BP
Creature-human-C
Isolation (spells and abilities which effect "all" or "each" do not effect this perminent)
Outcast (perminants with outcast can not be exiled)
Even among the outcasts of Zelb there are those who seek further isolation

Alright let's finish these houses

Outcast seems cool, although it might be confused with Outlast too easily.

Quijuk Paragon 3WP

Quijuk Paragon 3WP
Creature - Human warrior R
Paragon - Quijuk Seer is indestructible if it has the highest power among creatures you control.
3/3

Paragon seems more of a Green ability than White. Otherwise it's fine, and it would be a good ability for the Green/Purple guild (where Lock-On would have been possibly a good one for UP).

Next: Make another Quijuk (WP), Kasstar (UP), Waize (PR), Zelb (PB) or Gidai (PG).

Zelb decree - 3BPP

This cannot see print as a mythic in a set with Outcast. Every Zelb deck will require a playset of these to make Outcast work and that will be the guild's one trick. Not so much a problem with this card as the Outcast ability, but as they're being made for the same house set dynamics between the two abilities must be considered.

I'm liking these houses let's keep to them make another card for the purple houses

Gidai Deshaper G/P

I like it, I think that is an excellent way to bring back exiled cards

Waize warp Assault tactics- 4RP

Fortuna

So... warpstrike is effectively a better unblockable. Of course, the way you've written this card it doesn't do what you want; if the creature leaves play and returns, it's a new object, so it doesn't have double strike. But that's okay, because it can also give double strike to a separate creature from the one it gives warpstrike, making this overall "Target creature gets unblockable/becomes unblocked and another target creature gets double strike until end of turn", which is simply ridiculously good. So no, I don't think so.

And thank goodness! A challenge that doesn't require me to make a gods-cursed purple card!

Spell-Eater Grave-Grub BUG
Creature - Insect U
Whenever Spell-Eater Grave-Grub attacks or blocks, you may pay X and exile that many instants or sorceries from your graveyard. For each instant or sorcery exiled in this way, Spell-Eater Grave-Grub gets +1/+1 until end of turn.

EDIT: Sorry, forgot the challenge. Make a card whose art depicts something or someone stepping into a mirror.

Jormengand

Ooh. Horrible if you can get it to be unblockable or trampling in an instant/sorcery based deck. The paying X is definitely necessary.

Odashir's Echo (UP)

Why is this an enchantment? It should probably be a Sorcery since it's one and off.

It's an enchantment because I changed my mind three times and forgot to change the type.

Anyway, isn't normal trap hole 1000? Bottomless is 1500 IIRC. Flavour text notwithstanding, I guess it works. Though taking out Progenitus might be a bit much.

Thoughtstealer Scarab BUG
Creature - Insect U
When Thoughtstealer scarab enters or leaves the battlefield, draw a card.
1/1

With 3 colors might should be 2/2 or 1/2 (given that Black is now T > P and Blue is often as well). I mean Elvish Visionary gets you the entering for 1G, and while this is twice as good draw the color cost makes it more than twice as hard to play.

And it's been a long time since I played Yu-Gi-Oh, I forgot. Though I should have worded it as "Destroy target creature with power 2 or greater which entered the battlefield this turn" that way it doesn't destroy Prot Black.

Next: Make something Kasstar (UP).

Kasstar Spy UP

You make a surprisingly good point, actually - Shockland into Champion of the Parish turn 1, city into Kasstar spy turn 2, mountain into shock turn 3. Find a way of getting Trample on your CotP while you're at it.

Anyway, dragon which sparks without paying cards gonna spark without paying cards. Given cost, attack requirement, and so forth, makes sense.

Blessing of Ophiuchus 3PP

Can we please stop with the purple challenges? I keep stepping in here to see what the latest challenge is and it keeps on being purple. Speaking as someone far more interested in the near-infinite potential of the game without the colour of ridiculous exile effects that probably shouldn't exist, it makes me less inclined to check in at all every time it happens.

It would be somewhat rude to post that complaint without responding, so just once I'll make your blasted purple card.

Deny is a ridiculous keyword. Counterspells without card costs need very tight control. In this case, it makes potentially significant chunks of decks completely worthless - literally completely dead draws. It's just bad.

Veldan Confluence UPR
Enchantment - Aura R
Enchant instant or sorcery. (When the enchanted spell resolves, put this card into its owner's graveyard.)

Trostan Medic PWR

Isolation Camps

T: W or B
WBT: target creature you control gains isolation (spells and abilities that effect "each" or "all" do not effect this permanent) until end of turn
"We swear that it's for your own good" - Azorious escort guard

Lets make something that doesn't have purple in it's color identity, and is from one of these houses Kasstar(PU), Waize(PR), Gidai(PG), Zelb(PB), Quijuk(PW), Trostan(PUR) and Veldan (PWB)

Jormengand
2015-01-03, 02:47 PM
Hmm... yeah, I guess, but I was thinking of trying to keep Isolation as a Zelb mechanic:

Purgators P
Mechanics: Judgement (When a creature fighting, blocking or blocked by this creature dies, exile it), Otherworlder {Cost} (If this card is in exile, you may cast it for {Cost})

House Quijuk WP
Mechanics: Paragon (Creature gets an effect if it has the highest power among creatures you control.), Revivify {Cost} ({Cost}: Return target card from exile to your hand)

House Kasstar UP
Mechanics: Silenced (Card loses all abilities except silenced, and its equipment and auras have no effect except granting Silenced), Shift (Whenever ~ is targeted you may return it to your hand and put another creature with the same or lower converted mana cost onto the battlefield which then becomes the target instead. That card cannot Shift.)

House Zelb PB
Mechanics: Isolation (Spells and abilities which effect "all" or "each" do not effect this card),
Outcast (Permanents with outcast can not be exiled)

House Waize PR
Mechanics: Warpstrike {cost} (When ~ becomes blocked you may pay {cost}. If you do, exile ~ and return it to the battlefield under your control, tapped and attacking.)

House Gidai PG
Mechanics: Lock In (Target a card and remember what card it is)

Clan Trostan WPR

Veldan UPB

Fated Pair 2WB
Creature - Angel Demon R
W: You gain 1 life.
B: Target player loses 1 life.

So willy nilly pay X Black mana deal X damage? The W: You gain 1 life alone is a ridiculous amount of life gain each round (close to infinite streams of life) but could work on a high cost card. The life loss one is way too strong though.

Also needs P/T. Even if it were a 0/0, however, and needed shenanigans (like Force of Savagery) to get out it'd be OP.

Next: I'm pretty sure I haven't said white yet: Azorius, Quijuk, Orzhov, Boros, or Selesnya.

Fortuna

Technically, this doesn't work; Extort resolves whether or not you pay the cost. I'm not sure what the correct wording would be, but probably the easiest would just be to make 'extort' a meaningful verb in the rules and say "if you extorted three times this turn". This seems pretty balanced; it could probably even be an uncommon. Extorting three times in a turn is difficult, and an extort-bear for WB would probably be printable at common.

Izzet Stormcaller 1RR

@Random Person: That'll teach me to not go with my initial wording (which just used extorted as if extort was a keyword action), though now I'm thinking I might could just have gotten by at that rarity with if Extort triggered 3 times even if you didn't pay to use it all three times (meaning 1-3 spells with 1-3 extort creatures).

Weeping Angel 6
Artifact creature - angel statue- R
Whenever ~ blocks or becomes blocked it stops being a creature until the end of the combat phase
4/4

So in effect if it blocks or becomes blocked remove it from combat possibly with the ability to get away from certain old basilisks that just destroy things that block them. As it's a disadvantage as often as an advantage on a 4/4 and this is a rare you could get away with making it a 4, maybe even a 3 (since it can be chumped by a 1/1 without them losing the 1/1). 6 mana is definitely too high (also on the Stormcaller remove the self ping and it's a significantly better gelectrode which is one of the better ping creatures in the game, though I'd advice letting it target players like gelectrode which is generally valued at less than targeting creatures)

Hmm... the thing is, some Trostan aren't the Trostan colours, and it would make sense for something to be the Trostan colours without being Trostan. Maybe make a name check (sure, you can change something's name, so you're tricking the slave into seeing his master even though his master's not actually there. The other big problem is I don't see W and R (Chaotic good, essentially, although I guess not necessarily) keeping slaves, and P doesn't really add to that. Veldan is more the right colours.

Mechanically, it's fine.

Oh dang. That is some potent stuff  two Evolves in, and you've got value, anything more than that gets more and more powerful. I'd say that's definitely rare power, and probably complex enough, since this makes evolve into a quadratic growth instead of linear. That alone makes it frightening, but the ease in which you can abuse it is even scarier. Not to say combo potential makes a card OP, just that combo potential on an already strong, complex card means it should probably be higher than uncommon :smalltongue: I really like the card though! Very cool, very interesting, not blatantly overpowered.

Rakdos Flame-Runner 1RR

Errr, Enrage (http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=83076) already exists, and it's better than this card. It's almost strictly worse than giving a creature unblockable for a turn, and that can be accomplished for a lot less (e.g. Distortion Strike, a common which is hilariously superior in that it only costs 1 mana, gives +1/+0 and unblockable, as well as getting re-cast the next turn for free). This needs a power boost - easiest thing I can think of would be giving the creature +X/+0.

I'm not sure if this meets your criteria, but Kol is an RUG planeswalker that I've made with a sort of cult/tribe that follows him, who broke off from Temur, so good enough? :smalltongue:

It's alright :smalltongue: playing this plus a creature is going to be expensive, but slap it on something with a lot of keywords and you're golden.

People have said I need to use wins an not H/T somewhat frequently (it might just be you over and over, I don't know). I've mostly ignored it because it doesn't really matter, but it seems that critique is being used in lieu of an actual evaluation of power or balance. So I'll just say, I disagree. Ral Zarek, Mana Clash, and Odds//Ends are three cards that use H/T, and some design space requires its use. So there's no reason for me to inconsistently use H/T only when I need it.

Rakdos Flame Runner 1RR
Creature - Human R
Haste
R - Target creature you control gets +2/+0, haste and this ability. At the end of turn, sacrifice this creature.
3/1

You need to make it a triggered ability usable when a creature enters the battlefield under your control. As is, you pay X red mana, give a target creature a permanent +2X and haste and the ability to do that to another creature if you're willing to lose it. Making it triggered limits it to 1/creature while also making it harder to actually pull off and leaves it still actually pretty powerful.

Hmm. Three colored and quite expensive. Double exalted is nice, so it at least attacks as a 4/8, which is about appropriate for a 6 cost. Apart from that, annoying to remove. It's really just nice to have on its own, but won't win any games. Sharing its hexproof and flying with others, however, could get quite nice. I'm not sure how one would break it, it doesn't seem to be. So, good job.

Creatures have "R/P: Warpstrike. (After the declare blockers step, you may pay R/P. If you do, exile this creature then return it to the battlefield, tapped and attacking.)"

So all creatures are unblockable (actually better than unblockable) if you have R or P, and you can get ETB effects off of them which actually makes it better than "creatures are unblockable". Definitely should cost more than 4 even with it being an equal field effect. It would also never be made as an equal field effect anymore because it is insanely good against non-Red but would make mirror matches much too short and suddenly deadly for yourself actually. Also I doubt everything has block avoiding flickering would ever see print as an uncommon regardless of the mana cost because that just screams Rare.

So 2/1 for 1 in Green (exists at uncommon with a beneficial ability in G/W hybrid). Vanishing means it has to attack each round if able or it will die. It can't get 3 time counters on it unless an opponent attacks the turn you play it and you buff it because afterwards if you do not attack for a turn it will die, or if you can give it double-strike. It would work better as an uncommon power-wise as 9 times out of 10 it's weaker than Dryad Militant, Elite Vanguard, or any of the 2/1 can't block creatures. Does make me want to build a deck with it and proliferate.

I'd make it Sorcery or Instant only in keeping with the nature of weirds, Izzet, and Red Blue; it also serves to make it a little less than a bear with UR, T: Draw a card and ping. Otherwise I'd be tempted to make it a 1/1, because it's above the curve for pinging creatures and 2 mana and tap is relatively cheap for card draw with such an open ended method. That wouldn't really do much to weaken it, and it might make it as is, but it'd make it a little more Uncommon power level, I think.

Forecast: U, Reveal ~ from your hand: Target player may scry 1. (Activate this ability only during your upkeep and only once each turn.)

Challenge: Create a card with the signature ability of two different Tarkir clans or shards of Alara (not sure if each of those does have a signature ability, I mean Exalted for Bant, Devour for Jund, something about power 5 plus for Naya, not sure if anything for Grixis or Jund). Either! Hellspike seems a little strong at uncommon, since it's pretty much a 3/3 for 2 with upside. Otherwise, nice card, not much to say. Enchant Land
When Fading Terrain enters the battlefield, draw a card and put two depletion counters on it.
When enchanted land is tapped for mana, its controller may pay all mana of the kind produced. If they do, add that much colourless mana to enchanted land's controller's mana pool. I like the idea of it. The execution, I feel, could use a bit of work. For example, you forgot to put in the "Enchant Land" line! That's kind of important! But the rest of the card is good, I like the drawing a card and neutering of a land. It seems fair for its price of 2B.

See, you could get a 5/5 for 5 with no drawbacks normally, so I don't see that it really needs them. Goblins, apart from the reckless misspelling in the name but apparently not the ability itself, are kinda bad given they kill themselves after swinging twice successfully, so they probably want to sit there and block which isn't very red.

3

My first instinct is to say that the emblem is a little too strong for how easy it is to get it (4 mana, keep this from taking damage for one round), but it requires you to have a good amount in your graveyard already... It'd need playtesting. And well it also completely kills Mill a bit too easily. It might work better as exile although then it really can bite you hard. Actually I might make it -4 Exile all cards in your graveyard and you get an emblem with "Whenever you would draw a card, you may instead return target card exiled by ~ to your hand." That doesn't kill a whole deck archetype with a 4 drop that they have 1 turn to remove, and also allows the ultimate to be used again if you can manage it.

That's pretty strong for 4, mostly because of the first ability. +1 is basically "draw a card" (note that it's spell, not card), while -1 is actually not that strong (Frost Breath is pretty much strictly better and is a 2U common) and the -4 is prone to hilarious shenanigans but overall not too strong due to the second part not allowing infinite cycles. I suppose it's alright, but I feel like people would just spam the first ability.

Flash-Freeze Weird 1U

Huh. It's interesting, but I think it costs a bit too much for psuedo-flashback. I'd rather just run Snapcaster Mage :smalltongue: though this gets the effect repeatedly, it costs more, does less as a body, and doesn't get you card advantage due to the exile. Some decks might find it useful, but not particularly strong. Still, cool card

Enchant Land
Enchanted land is a 3/3 blue and red Weird.
Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery, choose one: Enchanted land gets +2/-2, enchanted land gets -2/+2, enchanted land gets unblockable, or deal 2 damage to target creature or player and 2 damage to enchanted land.
By imbuing existing structures, the resulting creature is more capable than equivalent-cost weirds. Unfortunately, it is also less... robust.

It originally appeared on Turbo Powered Rocket Slug, allowing you to reveal TPRS from your hand and attack the turn before you summon it. You lose the game if you don't pay the mana cost, though.

Karn's Command is... kinda pointless. I mean, sure you might want to cast it, but you'd never actually bother including it in a deck unless you required a specific set of cards for a combo to work and Karn's Command allowed you to keep pseudo-mulliganning, but... ehh.

Copying permanent-type spells that never were on the field raises possible memory issues, particularly if you have multiple conscripts down - there's a reason copy effects are seldom at common. Remove the Revivify and it would be a powerful 8 drop mythic rare. Remove Revivify and Paragon and it would be an appropriate 8 drop mythic. The Revivify is just plain out broken on its own and no amount of mana cost will fix that (Rise from the Grave).

It's good, like really good, maybe a little too good, I would change the exile target permanent to exile target nonland permanent, because it will probably be doing 2 a turn because it will usually be triggering paragon, the protections seem excessive, I would narrow those down, and it is still at the high end of costing 8

Tasia Zelb BP
Planeswalker - Tasia MR
+1: Put a 0/1 black and purple human creature token called "Zelb's Guard" with defender, outcast and isolation onto the battlefield.

There might be some confusion arising from the fact that you have to choose targets on activation, but the mode isn't determined until resolution. The +2, in particular, initially made me wonder whether the two targets would have to be the same, and as worded, I think they would. Otherwise... I guess it seems okay?

Chromatic Upheaval 2U

Why not more Skaven? Everyone loves more Skaven!

For reference, my other Skaven:

Skryre Engineer UBR

Creature - Rat Wizard (U)

Skryre engineer comes into play with three warp counters on it.

Whenever you remove a warp counter from Skryre engineer, flip a coin. If you lose the flip, Skryre engineer takes 1 damage.

Remove a warp counter from Skryre Engineer: untap target artefact.

Hm. How about a few free bonus cards.
Mordheim Meteor 2BR

Sorcery (R)

Destroy target land, then put a warp token on each rat you control

Warpstone Capacitator 2

Remove a warp token from ~ or equipped creature: warpstone capacitator deals one damage to target creature or player.

Warpstone Mine 2B

Enchant Land

Enchanted Land has: "T, sacrifice a creature: Put a warp token on target rat."

Throt the Unclean 3BB

Legendary Creature - Rat Mutant (R)

Throt the Unclean comes into play with two warp tokens on it.

Make an instant or sorcery that costs precisely {S}{S}{S}{S}{S}{S} (that's 6 snow mana) and has a weak base effect for that cost, but has an additional effect for each color (purple might or might not count; it's up to you) that occurs when that color is used as part of the aforementioned mana cost.

Unfortunately, Evolve 10 doesn't exist - Evolve is a static keyword that always gives one +1/+1 counter. You could have it have Evolve, Evolve, Evolve... but then it would only get counters up until it hit the highest P/T. Lastly, big vanilla creature is not really worth 10, but it's too complicated to fit its power (common level). Good try, but needs work.

Also, at the entry formatting: You don't need the spoilers, and generally a little more than "good" is desired for critique (but not necessary, I suppose :smalltongue:). Lastly, such specific challenges are generally frowned upon, but it seems you are new so that's ok

I think the bloodrush should be 1 more mana, and it might be a tad on the strong side, but nothing that wouldn't be fixed with +1 mana or making it 1URG instead of using hybrid costs.

another 3 guild combination

Tol, Erun Clade Lifeshaper GU
Legendary Creature - Merfolk Wizard R
Evolve
Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery populate.
Whenever a token creature enters the battlefield under your control put a +1/+1 counter on it.

(populate seems to be ~1 mana or switching a colorless to color on cards such as Sundering Growth, Druid's Deliverance, Rootborn Defenses, and Wake the Reflections is W just to populate; goblin electromancer reduces sorcery costs by 1 at common as an RU bear, this is a rare and legendary so should be somewhat more powerful, 0/2 evolve is weaker than a 2/2 bear, but the effect is hopefully substantially stronger in a dedicated deck)

I can tell you that that would be immediately put in my EDH Riku deck so much token synergy and the evolve will go off at least 2 times if not 3, admittedly though I don't see the third guild. It might be a bit underpriced, because of it's self synergy.

Haven't been back here for a while.

Okay, first thing is you're missing a power and toughness. The card is effectively 7 mana MR making your creatures effectively unblockable with slight mana input (unless I'm misunderstanding warpstrike) so it'll end the game in a couple of turns if not dealt with. Makes it's toughness very important so we if things can deal with it. If warpstrike allows it to be blocked again after use, it's more balanced but I'm not sure it'd work rulewise with timing. If not, it's a bit op and too much like unblockable. Like it thematically though.

Going for a recent one to fix here:
Tol, Erun Clade Lifeshaper 2GU
Legendary Creature - Merfolk Wizard R
Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery you may pay {1}. If you do, populate.
Whenever a token creature enters the battlefield under your control, you may put a +1/+1 counter on it.
1/3

The card having evolve didn't seem to fit for me thematically given it facilitates rather than adapts itself, so made it 1/3 and removed evolve. Seemed undercosted for what it did so upped the cost by 2 and added a slight additional mana cost to the populate trigger (still considering making it 2 mana not one).

This is very close to a 2 mana tutor, which is... a bit too powerful. Most games will end before you get through more than a half of your deck, and if you exile half your deck, you have a 93.5% chance of finding a card that's 4-of in your deck. I'd make it cost 1 more?

Compare coalition victory, which can be countered and is probably a lot harder to win the game with - the ability to put your opponent's biggest cards on the top of their library at the start of the game is a big deal if you can get a lot of damage out quickly. Or, just put all your Biovisionaries at the top of your library, along with some mana if you're colour screwed, and win before your opponent has any real ability to do stuff.

Wizards wrote up P as being between U and B, resulting in 6-colour 6-cost as reading WUPBRG.

Adding mana at the start of your upkeep is very unusual, and most decks won't find much use for it. It's also not a blue ability - on past precedent, it's red, or perhaps green. So this is more likely to be in Thought mode most often. But it's so blue-heavy that it's hard to play in a multicolour deck, particularly in a draft, which means that it's very likely other people will have better creatures. The result is that this card is usually simply not very useful. Its flavour is also somewhat confused; why does an Eldrazi contribute so much to a debate?

Also, setting the next challenge is part of the game. Skipping it is rather rude.

Perfectly reasonable. There's really not much to say. I mean I could compare it to Gideon's Lawkeeper or another of the White pay mana to tap creatures, but with requiring 2 colors and being a 0/1 it's perfectly reasonable. The only thing I might add is something to stop it from being used after the creature is tapped to attack if your intent was not to allow that and to ;eave the target as a blocker; I could see it being printed either way.

Interesting, though enchantments are less likely than creatures to be worth copying. It's also interesting in that certain cards (e.g. Bestow) make this much stronger, and blocks (e.g. Theros) make this much more interesting as most decks will be running enchantments and can thus disrupt a plan you might have.

In a block where Outcast is prevalent this could work, though it'd still have to be an expensive ability due to its ability to be used in modern, casual, vintage, etc. With a 3 color cost and a 1/3 this probably works.

Is there some kind of explanation somewhere on what the fluff of those groups is? Because I've seen maybe two or three cards you made on the purple and I'm always a bit lost.

Well...

Why Purple?

There was, originally, going to be a set with purple in it, which represented a sort of otherworldly, unnatural force. This never actually ended up happening, but the idea stuck with me. The basic land for purple was either going to be cave or city; I chose city, as it fit with Purple's unnatural, and yet all too close to home, theme.

Purple as a Personality Type

My colour is purple. I value individuality and thought, I value justice and personal benefit, I value natural and mechanical. I take what I see as the best aspects of the world out of their context, and live it to the full, but also stand by my own way of thinking with utter disregard for the opinions of others. At my best, I am innovative and a maverick. At my worst, I am debased and an outcast. Nominally, my ally colours are blue and black, and my enemy colours are green and, to a lesser extent white and red, but in reality, I could be anyone's ally and my own worst enemy.

Purple and the Invasion

Mechanics

These are constantly being edited. Bear with me.

Purgators P
Mechanics: Judgement (When a creature fighting, blocking or blocked by this creature dies, exile it), Otherworlder {Cost} (If this card is in exile, you may cast it for {Cost})

House Quijuk WP
Mechanics: Silenced (This permanent loses all abilities except silenced, and its equipment and auras have no effect except granting Silenced), Revivify {Cost} ({Cost}: Return target card from exile to your hand)

That card cannot Shift.)

House Zelb PB
Mechanics: Isolation (Spells and abilities which effect "all" or "each" do not effect this card),
Outcast (Permanents with outcast cannot be exiled)

House Waize PR
Mechanics: Flamestorm X (When a spell you control would deal noncombat damage, it deals X more instead), Second Wind (You get an extra effect if you've cast another spell this turn.)

House Gidai PG
Mechanics: Lock In (Target a card and remember what card it is), Paragon (Creature gets an effect if it has the highest power among creatures you control.)

Clan Trostan WPR
Mechanics: Deny X (Counter all X unless its controller pays 1), Accelerate X (X cost one mana of any colour less to cast)

Veldan UPB
Mechanics: ???

Purple Sets

The idea of the set is "Playing Magic in a different way" - Artifact decks and Everything is Cantrips allow you to take a break from creatures and makes card advantage odd, Trostan's change-the-mana-cost abilities radically change the game dynamic, and purple is... well, purple!

it seems balanced, just because of how long it would take to get there, exile target library hurts so much

I had imagined that the plane with purple mana was what you described (maybe with a reference to the void, like Welvoid or something) as veldan and that the 7 houses were competing factions. also that Zelb was a house that was exiled (not game term) from the rest of the houses and were forced to live in the wastelands alone. I had not picked up on the totem involvement and I like the flavor for the set. with that in mind lets make the finale for it into a card

I like it. It's very similar to Gravepurge, though they both have their own sphere of uses. I think this is better, but meh. Its cool, usable, the whole kip and kaboodle. The one thing I would be worried about is using it, selecting an opponent as the target player, then profiting because they have no creatures in their graveyard. But for a cost of 1B, it seems balanced.

Now, before you read this, keep in mind the number of win conditions that come online before you get 16. And Emrakul is the least of them. And plus, if you can play this and you're usng a Sliver deck, you've probably already won.

That's... not overpowered, exactly, but very strong. Generally, burn wants to be directed at creatures unless you need a finisher, so the creature-only part is not too problematic. ...If by "look it up", you mean "search your deck for it", that's not inherently part of imprint, nor proper syntax. You'd have to say "Search your deck for a land, then imprint it." As is, you lose a land as part of the deal, making this card pretty bad, though by no means unplayable. If you searched your deck for the land, this card would be very strong, as it would be close to a 3/3 unblockable for 4 colorless - though not overly so.

Enchantment - U
Whenever an opponent draws a card outside of their draw step, draw a card.

At uncommon this would need to cost at least 4 mana. Combine it with Temple Bell, Vision Skeins, or other mutual draw effects and it gets far too crazy for a 2 drop. Compare Mind's Eye (http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=338452) at Rare, it can let you draw from their draw step, but costs a mana each time you use it and is a 5 drop rare.

Reflected Madness is extremely strong in conjunction with Wheel of Fortune and similar effects; if you're discarding a full hand, it can easily turn a symmetrical effect into "Each opponent discards their hand", which is perhaps too good; likewise, it's very strong with cycling, and obviously rather amusing with Madness. Also, it has the most obvious combo with One With Nothing ever. I would say it should cost 2BB at least. Reflected Amnesia is funny; I'm sure it has uses, but it seems fairly innocuous.

Powerful in a madness deck, especially as it can be done turn 3 or even turn one with the right hand/design (but that requires two dark rituals or another way to get at least 4 mana) but fairly reasonable. Anyway, 7-drops gonna 7-drop. Since you're unlikely to get the effect off before turn 11, that doesn't look game-breaking.

Amalgam of Flames 2BG
Sorcery - U
Put a 4/4 red elemental creature token with haste onto the battlefield under your control.
The outcast knows the burning rage within, the wilder knows that blazing passion without.

Next: A planeswalker who would fit in the sets yellow, magenta or cyan (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showsinglepost.php?p=18647611&postcount=141).

4/4 haste for 4? Not exactly OP, but that doesn't seem at all like a black-green card. Mono red, or black red, more like. "Don't copy a guild" doesn't mean "Wreck the color pie". And it's still pretty strong. That said, it's a good solid card, so not bad

I'm not sure it's entirely fair of you to tell others it's not okay to make challenges based on tv shows and such when you ask to read through your fluff.

What happens if the creature it's attached to dies? I think it would work better as just an equipment that auto-attaches when it enters the battlefield (though potentially still an enchantment). It would avoid having to add new rules for how aura equipments work which are unnecessary complications when it could either be an aura that let you pay mana to re-attach it, or an equipment which equips as it enters the battlefield depending upon whether it's destroyed if the creature it's on dies.

It was meant to be to do with ally colours.

You had to read three lines. Something to do with the purple guilds or idols or cantrips, was that so hard?

Not necessarily, but I did notice that in that post (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showsinglepost.php?p=18647611&postcount=141), you said "Read through the fluff I've written"... Which I assumed to mean all of it, which is a little much. I really wouldn't care if you hadn't been telling off others for things that are similarly quick google searches. Though you did provide a link, which is somewhat better than just "do something based off X".

Anyway, it's alright - It's very similar to Shock+Cantrip which isn't all that powerful. Might only be common level, maybe Uncommon at 1RR?

4/4

I'd remove the trample. As it is in a deck with a few idols this is better than an 8/8 trample for 5 colorless. Without inherent evasion it'd just be a cheap beatstick that you have to build around, with it the card gets really underpriced. That even ignoring the fact that you can use it to energize other idols which will usually not be the big thing you want but may well end up being better.

Challenge: Make a new mechanic/keyword.

Relic Monger 3UU

Wait, so is it Salvage 2 or are you removing up to 3 artifacts? And I'm gonna guess you put a +1/+1 counter on it for each one?

But anyway, I like it assuming it works like I think it's meant to - I'd run it in an artifact deck.

Emergency Fire 0

Counter target spell.

Emergency Weaken 0

Emergency Empower 0

That's... weird. I mean, on the one hand, it's free creature destruction. On the other, if the opponent can't do something against something so weak for three turns, they kind of deserve it.

Wall of Black Thorns 3GG

Wall of Black Thorns may block any number of creatures.

Don't like it. It will always trade above its weight unless your opponent has something which Tims (T: Deal 1 damage to target creature or player), in which case it will trade a card for a tap which is terrible. However, I don't remember the last time I played anyone with a Tim or equivalent effect, and the only other ways of getting it down without losing a card are cantrips (which cost a lot for what they do), fights which don't cost a card, counterspells which don't cost a card (both very rare and usually hard to do), and provoke (does anything even have provoke any more)? It doesn't cost you anything but the card itself and the inconvenience of having to wait three turns, and costs your opponent a creature that might be very expensive.

Worldbreaker Vine 2PG

2 drop for weak effect, combo with delve for burst mana (old black style), but would be reasonable with a 2 mana buyback and this needs synergy to be even that good. Would work in a set/block where it's likely to get exiled (delve for example).

Rarity? Because something that complicated isn't going in below R. Anyway, an X/X+1 for X+3 would be bad, but the scry and cantrip make it bearable so long as you're happy shoving that many artifacts into the Otherworld. Basically, it would be balanced if it just upped and got the +1/+1 counters.

So that's 4 with "1W: Search your library for a permanent and put it onto the battlefield tapped." You can tutor up Emrakul and Progenitus and put them on the board on turn 5! Fortunately the stupid chrom thing stops you Urza'ing it up, but really now?

EDIT: And if you think that making that effect cost any less than about 10 makes it balanced, you're very much mistaken.

Hyperaccelerator 6

Hyperaccelerator has Flamestorm X, where X is the number of times you energised it this turn (When a spell you control would deal damage, it deals X more damage instead.)

I'm assuming this is supposed to have a non-existed mana cost and be just identified as red/blue. In which case... I think there's a way to cheat it out still which becomes problematic (it might come out with Epic Experiment I'd have to double check), and it'd never see play outside of that. but it'd actually make a nice card in EDH where somebody could counter it and people are throwing around 10+ mana.

Daern's Instant Fortress 3

Artefact (U)

You may cast ~ any time you could cast an instant.

T: Target creature gains +0/+5 until end of turn.

Giving all creatures you control +0/+5 (and reach) until end of turn is 2 mana (1G). This is flash and gives it to whichever needs it for the rest of the game so it's actually significantly better (the other will save you for a round and make a few trades, this will save you for a round, make a trade and protect your creatures until it is removed). Therefore, I'd say the tap effect really ought to have an associated cost, otherwise it's a 3 drop which almost says "creature's I control can't be burned" in addition to making a lot of trades in combat a lot easier. Maybe 2 mana in addition? Or perhaps make it a smaller toughness bonus.

Yeah, not sure on this but it seems crazy. For a start, the ability combination means that it will do TRIPLE its attack damage to whatever it attacks, meaning that a single Elder Cathar death can net you something swinging for 9, and it only gets worse when you start adding weapons into the equation. The fact that you actually gain all that life is just icing on the cake. Speaking of cake:

Misinformation 2UU
Sorcery - R
Choose a card which isn't called "Shadowborn Apostle" or "Relentless Rats" and isn't a basic land. Search target player's hand, library and graveyard for any number of copies of that card and exile them. Then that player searches your hand, library and graveyard for any number of cards called Misinformation and exiles them. Then exile Misinformation.

The cake is a lie!

Yes, I'm aware you can target yourself for otherworlder effects and then search your h/l/g for zero copies of misinfo, but that's not exactly a common occurrence.

Next: Create a card that follows your own challenge.

I think if you need a line of text like "Choose a card which isn't called "Shadowborn Apostle" or "Relentless Rats." you should probably think of another ability. I mean even if you allow people to remove all those cards, it's not like that would be that broken. Playing 30+ useless cards to maybe get the chance to play with a -30 card deck isn't really worth it.

the fact that that can be dropped turn 2, when the second player still ends their turn with 6 cards in hand usually means that this guy will frequently be a delayed discard one (specifically when you had first play) I don't like that the power of this card is directly influenced by who played first. the effect just seems too powerful to be able to be dropped turn 2, without being a rare.

Firebreathing count as growing?

Haley's Latent Bisexuality 2WR
Legendary creature - Human Spirit R
R: ~ gets +1/+0 until end of turn.
"I'm always shocked at the number of fantasy genre readers who can suspend disbelief more easily for dragons than bisexuals. Especially considering that almost no bisexuals breathe fire. Like, hardly any. Less than half, certainly."
-Rich Burlew

Damn ninjas!

Should read "X: Put a +1/+1 counter on ~. X is this creature's power" or "Pay mana equal to this creature's power: Put a +1/+1 counter on it." In any case, it looks fine.

Degenerating Cage 5
Artifact creature - Construct U
At the start of your upkeep, put a -1/-1 counter on Degenerating Cage.
When Degenerating cage dies, if it had 5 -1/-1 counters on it, put an 8/8 colourless avatar creature token with annihilator 1 onto the battlefield under your control.

Whee boardwipes. Good thing Repercussion isn't modern-legal or I could see funnies if this were. The one B mana looks very out of place, though.

Erika, Trostan Princess 1WPR

Accelerate spells which prevent damage or cause players to gain life. (Accelerated spells cost 1, W, P or R less to cast)
2/2

Neither of those should be common enough to be keywords (think about multiple deny in play at once), and accelerate would probably work better as just colorless, but either one shatters things if common in a block/set (and shouldn't be a keyword otherwise). Overall this card is rather weak for a 3 colored 4 drop Rare legend even as it is written.

You need to define imprint as each imprint card specifies a zone to exile from. Hand, graveyard, deck or battlefield. As a result I can't really judge the card.

Trostan
Legendary Land
~ enters the battlefield tapped.
T: Add R to your mana pool.
R, T: Target white creature cannot block this turn.

So, Trostan is a mountain in Northern Ireland according to google.

Make a removal spell.

Um. Neat? Not much to say, really.

Unravel B
Enchantment - Aura U
Vanishing 3 (As this permanent enters the battlefield, put three time counters on it. At the beginning of your upkeep, remove a time counter from it. When you remove the last time counter from it, sacrifice it.)
Enchant creature with toughness 4 or less

And they get scolded if they don't do so? And the new challenge forces you to read through the thread to even understand what they have to do?

I don't wanna sound angry, but this is really not the spirit for a casual game such as this.

Anyways, I take it this faith guy has something to do with healing and regenerating.

Shatter the faith BB
Instant - R
Until the end of turn, creatures can't regenerate and players can't gain health.

Reasonable I believe. I prefer it with the interesting cycle over being a cantrip.

New challenge: recreate a famous spell or ability from another game.

Magic Missile 1R
Instant U
Deal 1 damage to up to 5 target creatures or players. This damage cannot be prevented.

If you really care, then add a link. It's not hard.

Honestly a little weak compared to electrickery but then again electrickery is a remarkably good card. Quite flavorful as well. I like it.

Kentaro's Messanger 1W
Creature - Human Samurai C

Whenever ~ deals combat damage to a player you gain 2 life.

Imperious Commander 2BB

Vigilance, Bushido 2
Creatures fighting, blocking or blocked by Imperious Commander deal no combat damage.

Faith's Invocation 2WWW
Sorcery-Arcane R

As long as I stand, this shall not harm you

That is massively overcosted, and shouldn't be a rare, and needs to be an instant. I was going to list other protection from color cards but blessed breath (http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=50451) is so much more directly relevant than any of the others I could think of.

challenge: make an item or spell from someone interacting with faith, in a similar style

ps. faith is a girl, since someone refered to her as he

This is difficult because Faith doesn't have a unifying theme in the cards you have made. While there's a bit of life gain and regeneration unifying three of them, the other two are just kind of out there.

Liliana's Hex BBB
Instant
Until end of turn whenever target player would gain life they lose that much life instead.
"Little girl, that's laughable, the hunter was at least a challenge."

And that doesn't really fit Liliana's theme (which is primarily discard), but at least it fits one of her secondary themes (Mono-black in the form of this card (http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=370658)).

Challenge: A card related to Garruk.

CantigThimble
2015-01-15, 04:20 PM
It's alright, mono-black commander staple but otherwise almost unplayable.

The Slayer's Helm 3
Artifact - Relic R
Attune 3 (3: Attach this card to target legendary creature or planeswalker you control, attune only as a sorcery.)
Whenever a creature dies, you may put a loyalty counter or +1/+1 counter on attuned permanent.

This mechanic would be printed in a side set, like planechase or commander, not a normal block I don't think.

Make a red card with flash.

Fortuna

Seems potentially very, very strong. Plop this on a planeswalker and board wipe for the win? I don't see this happening in a Commander set, and I'm not sure I see it happening outside one either.

Wildfire Elemental 1RR
Creature - Elemental R
Flash
As an additional cost to cast Wildfire Elemental, sacrifice a land.
When Wildfire Elemental enters the battlefield, if it's your turn, it gets haste and +2/+2 until end of turn.
Sacrifice a land: Wildfire Elemental gets +1/+1 until end of turn. If the sacrificed land was a forest, instead put a +1/+1 counter on Wildfire Elemental and it gets trample until end of turn.

Sacking lands is generally hard to do early game (in my experience), so it seems like it shines in the late game much more than in early game. On that tangent, a 1-for-1 land-for-+1/+1 counter deal seems a little weak for late game, but since legit enough. I think it seems playable, and is definitely flavorful enough.

Time Lordian - 1PP
Creature - Alien Citizen R
T: Place or remove a Time counter from target permanent which already has a time counter on it.
Remove 6 Time counters from your side of the field: take an extra turn after this one.
0/1
Even your average time lord has a greater mastery of temporal warping than the best humans.

Challenge: Make a new, flavorful use of a keyword.

CantigThimble
2015-01-15, 06:04 PM
That's a pretty cool idea. The exact wording would be "Remove 6 time counters from among permanents you control". I'm not sure how to judge the power level. It would vary in power a lot by the #s of vanishing or fading you could use it with. A quick gatherer search tells me it would probably be too strong with the fading cards but most of the vanishing cards are only 2 or 3, so you would be sacrificing 2-3 permanents to get an extra turn, which is a reasonable trade, but I'm sure there would be super busted combos based around this. I might make it tap and not untap during extra turns to use it's second effect, but IDK, it's really hard to judge.

Energy Storm 3R
Sorcery R
Forecast - U: Tap target creature.
Deal 3 damage to each untapped creature.
Run for cover!

This was a cool challenge, Again!

Haha love doctor who, you would need a lot of stuff with phasing, since suspended spells are technically exiled so it would be pretty hard to pull off, also it would hurt you because it would likely kill off a number of your phasing permanents. also it should probably say "from permanents you control" not "from your side of the field"

Energy storm is weird, but neat I guess. Wall of Doom is weird, because either it automatically blocks something without evasion each turn or it gets shocked/timmed quickly.

Melchior's pet is probably too good, but it's on a line. Faith's Gamble is... meh. Okay, I guess.

So I need a random, flavourful use of a keyword allied with Faith... hmm...

Faithful Prayer 2WUR

This doesn't work. At least one card (Faith's Fetters) predates your Faith, and I can guarantee you that referring to a class of names (rather than a specific name) will cause you problems when translating. Subtypes are a better way to achieve this sort of effect.

Sword of Night 4
Artifact - Equipment
Equipped creature is black and cannot have any other colour.
Equipped creature has deathtouch.
If equipped creature would deal damage to another creature, instead regenerate it and it deals that damage.
Equipped creature attacks or blocks each turn if able.

Jormengand

Dunno what it's from, but either way I'd knock the cost down by 1.

Gidai Berserker 2PG
Creature - Human barbarian R
When you cast Gidai Berserker, Lock In target creature you don't control.
When Gidai Berserker would deal damage to the Locked In creature, it deals twice as much damage.
Second Wind: When Gidai Berserker enters the battlefield, you may have it fight target creature (You get second wind if you cast another spell this turn.)
2/3

Next: Something with a colour identity that's exclusively green and/or purple with a Second Wind effect (Second Wind works on any spell type, or possibly even a land).

Fortuna
2015-01-15, 07:09 PM
The translation issue is why no existing Magic cards refer to groups or characteristics of names. Much like Jormengand's purple, it's something that those of us who like to design cards that could see print will take issue with.

Tick Tock seems very weak. 5 colourless for a 3/4 flying would, I think, be about on curve; phasing is a huge drawback, and makes it just about unplayable even in Limited.

Making green evil is very difficult without mixing in another colour. Green mostly doesn't take any particular notice of morality, or of the kind of statement about the world that morality makes. Making amoral green is very easy; making antimoral or immoral green is not, and making something everyone will agree is evil is even harder. Moreover, the kind of evil to which green most lends itself - the perpetuation of toxic cycles - is very hard to render on a card.

Warden of the Cycle 3BG
Creature - Dwarf Shaman MR
Whenever another creature enters the battlefield, put a +1/+1 counter on it and a -1/-1 counter on each other creature except Warden of the Cycle.
3/3
"All things decay. All things, in time, pass. So it is, and so it should be."

With proliferate and other shenanigans, it seems strong. It is mythic rare, but it stacks too much because its not Legendary. With that kind of effect, and a MR rarity, it seems almost insulting to not be Legendary, just on the whole basis of the thing.

I think it fits the Golgari theme pretty well, so good job!

Pit-Born Underdog - B
Creature - Human Fighter R
B, T: Put a +1/+0 or a +0/+1 counter on this card.
At the end of a turn where this card takes damage and is not destroyed, place a +0/+1 counter on it.
At the end of a turn where this card deals damage in combat, place a +1/+0 counter on it.

I'm not sure if it would ever see use, but I doubt it'd ever see print. Unless there's an easy way to get 7 red creatures in the meta at the moment it's not really epic enough to see print as a mythic without it, and it's a one sided field wipe for 5 mana which hits planeswalkers too so it's comparable to Garruk's Wake, except 4 mana cheaper with awkward psuedo-convoke which just makes me really doubt you'd see it printed (just like a Garruk's Wake with convoke wouldn't be printed).

Oh, I see - encouraging your opponents to play devotion. :smalltongue: Really, having this around does kind of force the metagame into high-toughness creatures, but otherwise doesn't benefit the user that much; it doesn't counter tokens or anything. I'm not sure why Ghostflame and Ghostfire seem to be opposites, either. Shouldn't that be, like, Meatfrost or something?

Evil Santa 2UB

I understand the card, but it doesn't work how you think it does. The wording is off (damage doesn't directly destroy a creature) and to actually function it would have to regenerate it no matter how it was destroyed that turn which would make the first use not functional as intended. Also this is worth at least a mana on searing spear, lightning strike, etc not just a second color. Also it just seems like two effects are stuffed together in a way that confuses the Vorthos in me I mean I can understand how you could fluff a fires of purification effect this way but it just seems off and you don't want that in a legendary/planeswalker related card.

Orzhov Battlecry 3WB

Cast ~ only during combat after the attackers have been declared.
Deal 2 damage to every creature you don't control.
Prevent the next 2 damage that would be dealt to every creature you control this turn.

Orzhov's standing army pales in confront of Boros' and Gruul's. They do make up for it with a little divine help.

This does break the color pie a bit (and so i made sure this thing has a high cost), but it does make sense in a flavour perspective: they cast this before attacking, hampering the opponents and shielding their own.

Hmm... because white are usually weenies, it seems too kinda anti-white for a white card. Also strikes me as more red than black. The colour pie breaking is a bit too much for it to fit.

Gidai Reinforcements 2PG

Second Wind: When Gidai Reinforcements enter the battlefield, put 3 +1/+1 counters on them. (You get second wind if you cast another spell this player turn.)

Which makes it more of a white effect (see Crossbow Infantry, or this gatherer search (http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Search/Default.aspx?name=+%5Bdeal%5D+%5Bdamage%5D+%5Batta cking%5D+%5Bor%5D+%5Bblocking%5D||type=+%5Bdeal%5D +%5Bdamage%5D+%5Battacking%5D+%5Bor%5D+%5Bblocking %5D||subtype=+%5Bdeal%5D+%5Bdamage%5D+%5Battacking %5D+%5Bor%5D+%5Bblocking%5D||text=+%5Bdeal%5D+%5Bd amage%5D+%5Battacking%5D+%5Bor%5D+%5Bblocking%5D)) weakens it (then again 1 sided pyroclasm is probably 4 mana judging from Electrickery and Mizzium Mortars and this was currently significantly better) although it remains more Boros than Orzhov.

Gidai Reinforcements 2PG
Creature - Human Soldier U
Second Wind: When Gidai Reinforcements enter the battlefield, put 3 +1/+1 counters on them. (You get second wind if you cast another spell this player turn.)
When Gidai Reinforcements enter the battlefield, Lock In target creature. When they die, transfer all +1/+1 counters to the Locked In creature.
1/1

As written Second Wind is confusing. It should be "You get Second Wind if you have cast another spell this turn" or "You get Second Wind if this is the 2nd or later spell you cast this turn" as is it reads like you gain it if you cast another one after this one which does not work for its effect as it would then never trigger.

Next: Something else with Second Wind in P, G or both.

EDIT: Incidentally, I might swap Paragon (WP, and you have paragon if you have the highest P among creatures you control) and Second Wind (PG and you get second wind if you cast another spell this player turn). Paragon seems more green, somehow. Thoughts?

Paragon is a Green ability through and through, though passes as G/W and might make a good ability for GWP. Second Wind is a Red/Blue ability, or an omnichromatic one and doesn't work any better than paragon for WP, actually due to card draw being most emphatically not White Second Wind fails to work as White more than Paragon does. And only paragon actually works with the themes you've listed for purple.

Gaia's Strength G

Target creature gains +2/+2 until end of turn
Second Wind - If you have cast another spell this turn target creature instead gains +4/+4 until end of turn.
Gaia blesses us with an abundance, let us put it to good use.

Challenge: Make a mono-Green or Black cantrip.

Am now thinking Silenced as white, Paragon as green and Second Wind as blue. Or Second Wind as red, Warpstrike on blue (blue are big on bouncing and evasion, after all, and Warpstrike is OP on red's high-power creatures.) Hmm.

Hopehunter: Cool, nice use of Lock In. Ravinica MK III denizens are usually humans, yeah.

Soul Spike: See, I feel that the fling-a-creature-at-someone mechanic should be red, but the exact details of the card make it fit in black.

Irresistible Force 2RR
Instant - R
Irresistible Force can't be countered and the damage it deals can't be prevented.
Irresistible Force deals 3 damage to target creature or player.

Immovable Object 2WW
Instant - R
Immovable Object can't be countered.
Prevent the next 3 damage that would be dealt to target creature or target player gains 3 life.

Fuse

So if an irresistible force hits an immovable object, then the outcome depends on whether we're talking creatures or players.

Next: Make an Idol (Idols are artifacts with the idol subtype, which have an ability costing 2 mana and tapping to energise each idol you control, and a line which starts "When you energise ~")
