Hi all.

Just wondering what would happen if a class like dread necro or beguiler took levels in mage of the arcane order. It seems that by raw, there's nothing that would restrict the spells in the spellpool, so would they be able to access all spells on the wizard/sorcerer list?

To enter they would need to have the Arcane Preparation feat, and once they were in, they'd have to use the spellpool mechanics to access the spells, but yes. Otherwise, all wiz/sorc spells at their finger tips.

Some DMs will also require you to "prepare" blank spell slots, but that of itself is not much of a hassle.

Thanks for the replies, I figured that was the case.

This is why you use it for long-term/persisted buff spells, or for Contingency coupled with another spell.

In before Curmudgeon, with his favorite argument:

Strictly speaking, they can't benefit from the spellpool. You can only borrow spells of a level that you can cast, and level includes class information. "Wizard 1" is not a level of spell that a beguiler or dread necromancer can cast, and so they can't borrow such a spell.

They might be able to borrow spells which appear on both the wizard list and their own list, but this would be pointless.

Spell level is just a number. Your class spell list doesn't matter since spellpool already specifies that it uses the wizard list.
