Welcome one and all to a counter-strike thread.

I picked up the entirety of the Counter-Strike collection (original, Source, Condition Zero, and GO) on the Steam sale.

Good lord, I have so many bad habits from other FPS games that I need to unlearn in order to be good halfway decent at this game.

The biggest problem I have is that I strafe. Almost always. In games like BF3, Fallout, HL2, TF2, and Mass Effect, this has negligible effect on your accuracy in most cases. That's pretty clearly not the case with CS:GO at least, since spread goes out real fast when you move.

I don't play it much, but I have fond memories of LAN parties where we played the original Counterstrike. It's a very different sort of FPS that encourages a particular sort of play, and that was cool. My favorite experience was when we had a 3v3 "escort the VIP" game on the oil rig map. It was ridiculously tense.

A bit of advice: Recoil patterns are fixed in CS:GO--the SG 553 will always make a figure 7, for example. If you want to learn how to control the recoil, just load up a local game, set it to private, turn on infinite ammo and shoot the walls for half an hour with your favorite gun.

It's a habit worth getting out of for a lot of games. I thought movement hurt accuracy in CS, but then I picked up Far Cry and saw it get really painful.

Heh. You should have seen the original Deus Ex. :smalltongue:

Ah yes. Agent JC "What Barn" Denton. It was quite tragically beautiful, really.
