View Full Version : What oath would a paladin that swore the same thing as don quixote (in post) have?

For those who don't know it, in the musical adaption he sings

To dream the impossible dream
To fight the unbeatable foe
To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not go
To right the unrightable wrong
To love pure and chaste from afar
To try when your arms are too weary
To reach the unreachable star

This is my quest
To follow that star
No matter how hopeless
No matter how far

To fight for the right
Without question or pause
To be willing to march into Hell
For a heavenly cause

And I know if I'll only be true
To this glorious quest
That my heart will lie peaceful and calm
When I'm laid to my rest

And the world will be better for this
That one man, scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
To reach the unreachable star

I was thinking that if I ever roll a paladin I would make them swear this, what oath do you think would be most appropriate?

Devotion!

The abilities of Ancients just seem too nature-y to fit. And Vengeance you could play as dedicated to chasing down wrongdoers, but it just strikes me as the "darker" of the three oaths, and less suited to a Quixote-esque character.

Devotion. Devotion is the code of the traditional Knight-Errant/

A lot of the fluff for the Oath of the ancients does seem nicely fit to this, with a focus more on chivalry than altruism, but I agree that its mechanical abilities are not a good fit for a don quixote style character.

Oath of the Ancients. The code is very similar. I think the Aura is a better fit than Devotion's Aura.

Quixote might be Devotion or Ancients, but Sancho is definitely Devotion
