In case you don't know, in 5e merrow are corrupted merfolk. While in previus editions they were aquatic ogres.

Personally I don't know what I think about it, I mean the new merrow are pretty cool. Kinda like more interesting merfolk, but it is weird that they took aquatic ogres and got rid of the ogre bit. I don't know, what do you think?

I've never liked adding aquatic to the name of a creature and calling it a new thing so I like the merrow in 5e. That being said I never encountered merrow in any other edition (as a DM or player) so I can't comment on what they used to be.

I think it is cool because you could build up a friendship between PCs and some merfolk, and then have some of the latter go exploring and come back as merrow! The PCs need to save the rest of the merfolk! Maybe even reverse the merrowism!
