View Full Version : Journal Campaign logs archive- Story time!

EDIT: I didn't have sufficient time for this thread in awhile, so I let it slide for some time. But, if you're ready and willing, I'm ready to keep updating the archive!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I like writing them, I like reading them (Even if I don't have enough time). But sometime I see a log, read part of it, forget to leave a mention of where it's at/ book mark it or such, and kind of lose track of it. Or sometime I just want to know what sort of campaign logs are out there, stories I haven't even seen, ideas, concepts and more. If only there was one place that put them all together, a library or archive or something.

So this idea came about. My hope is that people (Writers and readers) will see this thread, write a small intro (mostly on their campaigns), and we will archive it here, for ease of access to all. If it turns out a good enough resource, then maybe it will get "stickied", and we won't have to search for it, and we'll have a small library of our own.

I will try to manage it as best I can, here are some grounds rules though:
1) I'm suggesting a format. The idea is to give it a brief summary of the campaign log. You can add to it, but please make it a short brief intro, a bit like the blurb on the back of the book.

2) In all preference, have the writers of the log give their own entry to their logs. If this is impossible (for example, if the writer is no longer active, after you tried contacted him) then someone else can try.

3) You can use the thread to recommend or ask about logs, and give general impressions and input. But please leave particular discussion and critique about the content to the specific logs to the logs themselves.

4) A fair share of writers get frustrated and quite after a few sessions. For this reason I'll put in logs that are 5 sessions logged and up. (Unless this was a short campaign or even a one shot. If these are completed, feel free to drop them in).

5) The logs don't have to be from the GiTP.

Ok, these is enough. Now to my suggested format. Feel free to add to it as you see fit, but again- keep it short and sweet! Either send me your entry on a private message, or post it on the thread, and I'll manage it.

System: AD&D
Setting: Forgotten Realms? Generic Fantasy World?

After Thorns (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?134766-After-Thorns-Exalted-2e-campaign-journal)
Author: TheCountAlucard (Primary) and Slade (Secondary)

Setting: The fantastical world of Creation, mostly the East and South.
Point of view: Out of character, but mainly focuses on Shichirou, a vainglorious brawler.
Description:
Encapsulating the entirety of Exalted 2nd Edition, this log tells the story of a circle of Solar Exalted who start off struggling, but eventually grow so powerful that mortals, and eventually even Dragon-Blooded pose no threat to them; true to the gameline itself, in spite of the Solars continuing to overwhelm everything, the story is eventually dominated by the Reclamation and the Yozis. In theory, it's the story of a group of Solars eventually becoming great enough to defeat even the dreaded Mask of Winters, but really it's the story of a group of players out to defeat the ST.
Main features: A guy who punches things and a kung-fu cyborg Doc Brown teaming up to create a legion of Space Marines; a magical skyship blasting a fortress off the back of a miles-tall giant; four-hour combat scenes; a perpetually-beleagured Sidereal cleaning up after our messes.

An Adversarial process (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?240332-An-Adversarial-Process-Campaign-Recap)
Author: Kaveman26
Genre: High Fantasy
System: D&D 3.5 (limited rules sets)
Setting: Forgotten Realms/Greyhawk centric homebrew
Point of view: Mostly PC in and out of character. Some DM notes and input
Description: A small ragged group of adventurers initially just want to find a freaking horse and end up trying to stop a tapestry that leaks the most vile and horrific creatures from all planes into their own. OR: Our normal DM got bored and wanted a break, so we gave the screen to a First Time DM. He had one simple creed “My goal is to kill you all. That is how I win. You not dying…that is how you win”. What started as a means for him to be diabolic and give our main DM a few weeks vacation became a sprawling and truly awesome campaign.
Main features: Low-Op/High Strategy. Took on elements of a Monty Haul type campaign. A perfect example of how to do DM-vs-PC. I highly encourage reading this if for no other reason than to see how we created an enduring and lasting hatred for wagons.
Status: Complete-approximately 17 sessions. (extensive read)

System: Pathfinder
Setting: homemade setting non specific
Point of view: multiple perspectives
Description: On the border of three nations a complex which stretches deep below the earth is discovered. For one hour every thirty days, the doors to this dungeon come open, and at the conclusion of one hour, no force mundane ,arcane, or divine can keep them open. At first this structure was deemed an oddity. Once tales of those who survived the thirty days and exited with vast wealth and long forgotten relics spread it became a boomtown. It has been six months since the doors opened for the first time and strange tales of those altered by their experiences have been whispered.
So my friends naturally created a brutally evil and well synergized band of characters and proceeded to drive a herd of cattle and horses into a dungeon.

Not exactly an evil sort…he is quite jolly…he has an insatiable thirst for further power and glory. While he prefers reason to violence he is not afraid to take lives.
The expansionist nature of Knobhin’s empire had generated no shortage of enemies for the proud bard and he is fully aware of the bounties on his head. Genre: Fantasy
System: Pathfinder
Setting: Golarion
Point of view: 3rd person? It's the GM's summation of the events that happened in pseudo-story form
Description: Council of Thieves Adventure Path. PCs are a rag-tag group of people from all walks of life, living in the oppressive former Chelish capital: Westcrown.
Main features: Everything basically occurs within one city, which the PCs have strong ties to. PCs are rather well-behaved rebels and vigilantes, working with the various authorities on several occasions even if they do butt heads where ideals and methodology are concerned.
Status: Finished with 51 sessions recorded! Last few sessions are unfortunately MIA as the GM never got around to writing them up and likely never will.

DM's campaign log- Wrath of the Righteous (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?321974-DM-s-campaign-log-Wrath-Of-The-Righteous-%28PF-amp-spoliers!%29)
Author: Kol korran
Genre: High fantasy, good vs. evil, save the world.
System: Pathfinder
Setting: Golarion, The Worldwound area.
Point of view: DM. Describes the game, not just the IC story.
Description:
This is my 4th log. 3rd as DM. The game explores the PF adventure path of the same name, and intends to see it to the finish. The campaign is a classic "against the hordes of the abyss" kind of game, with fairly clearly defined good and evil, yet we try to put some spice into it. I try to take the modules min concepts, and give it my own "treatment" to make it to a more interesting experience. On the way the module explores different rules systems: Mythic heroes, mass combat, hex exploration and so on.
As this is a DM's log, I try to incorporate aspects of this role- decision points, design points, balance, and more. A sort of "behind the screen" look. I also try to use the readers' help in some design issues.
Main features:
- Highly in depth description of the game and DM's work process
- Exploring an AP from start to end. (20 levels+ 10 mythic tiers)
- Interesting twists on this AP, making it better?

It began with a crash (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?233191-quot-It-began-with-a-crash!-quot-Adventure-log)
Author: Kol korran
Genre: Fantasy, grim/ survival/ fugitives, low magic.
System: D&D 3.5 (With some rule variants)
Setting: Homebrew
Point of view: Player, IC 3rd person and OOC, as needed.
Description:
This is my first log as a player. A homebrew world of one of the player, the adventure begins with the party crashing and then trying to survive in a secluded valley. What made this campaign awesome is the interparty dynamics. We barely got along but we "got along". Along with a contained Sandbox environment, this made for a memorable adventure.
The game uses quite a few variants and house rules (Extremeley low wealth, armor as DR, highly altered races attributes for starters), which made it also quite interesting mechanically. Unfortunately, the game never ended, as it was cut short after 10 sessions. Still, great fun!
Main features:
- Awesome dialogue and party dynamics
- A good "fugitives" game!
- Lots of great visual aids.
Status: Incomplete, cut short, no longer updating. 10 sessions.

"Kill it with Fire!" A Goblin Alchemists journal of the Carrion Crown (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?374496)
Author: Miscast_Mage (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/member.php?56477-Miscast_Mage)
Genre: Fantasy with a dash of horror.
System: Pathfinder.
Setting: Golarion, Ustalav.
Point of view: Player, in character, first person, told with images of his journal.
Description: The death of a renowned professor, Petrus Lorrimor, brings several of his friends and associates to his funeral in Ravengro, a small if somewhat xenophobic Ustalavan settlement, most notable for it's now abandoned prison Harrowstone, which once held the most criminals of Ustalav.
Things run deeper than they first seem, with Lorrimors death being tied a cabal of necromancers called The Whispering Way, while restless ghosts and spirits roam the halls of Harrowstone, and even the dead begin to roam.
Main features: Told from the journal-viewpoint of an unstable goblin alchemist with copious quantities of coffee, enough explosives to level a small town and a burgeoning and worrying like for rope, thanks to a particular dwarf. Said goblin is also a student of the University of Lepidstadt, and may or may not have accidentally burnt down one of the alchemy labs. Is currently pregnant with a meat dinosaur. Fire bombs and Molotov cocktails abound, and things go boom.
Status: Incomplete - currently five sessions have been played, four of which have been posted. Updates every two to four weeks, depending on when the players can meet. If a session gets delayed, side stories and backstory musings can be posted.

Many journeys are made through the Kyrpra forest, site of an epic mage war of centuries past where purple trees and crocodile-squirrels are the least of your worries. Puzzle-filled towers award grand prizes to those who overcome their challenges, and the enigmatic salesman Jack will happily offer a deal on your winnings...

*DM Notes expand on design choices and how things often don't go as planned ^_^
*Usually light-hearted in tone, though some serious drama does occur.
*Large amounts of custom monsters and items.
*Creative players and a permissive DM.
Status: 61 sessions over 3 years, still ongoing.

Lords of the green (https://lords-of-the-green.obsidianportal.com/)
Author: Mark (GM), Oxybe (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/member.php?41654-oxybe)(player-Nisha)
Genre: Fantasy
System: Pathfinder
Setting: Golarion
Point of view: 3rd Person
Description: Kingmaker Adventure Path. No one could settle the Stolen Lands for a decent period of time. Under the banner of the Swordlords, a group of unlikely fellows march off to stake their claim.
Main features: Party raises a kingdom from nothing into a major power, happens over the course of almost 20 years in-game. Wars erupt over territory. Allies are made and trusts are broken. Giants, fey, dragons, barbarian hordes, owlbears and more all take star roles as antagonists. Technically happens in the same continuity as the Council of Thieves and Savage Tide game we ran. I can't remember if the GM name drops some of the PCs in this summaries but they do feature to a very minor extent as a sort of continuity nod, though the exact timeline is rather blurry.
Status: Ongoing! Currently on the last module.

Many Facets of Darkness (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?169769-Many-Facets-Of-Darkness-DM-s-Campaign-log-Eberron-3-5&p=9429514#post9429514)
Author: Kol korran
Genre: High fantasy, good vs. evil, save the world.
System: D&D 3.5
Setting: Eberron (Khorvaire and a bit of Xen'dric)
Point of view: DM. Describes the game, not just the IC story.
Description:
This is my first log. A campaign of a new group, new to Eberron as well, I decided to keep it easy on the lore. The party gets entangled with a machinations of a group calling themselves "The Dark Six", and go to vast reaches in Khorvaire and Xen'dric trying to stop their plans. As my first attempt in DMing since a loooong time, you see how I cope with the different things the players throw at me, complete change of plans, and adapting to create a great game. As the DM, you see a lot of "behind the screen" aspects- decision making, adaptations, design elements and more.
The campaign is complete, goes very much in depth, and is still considered in my group as one of the best we have played so far.
Main features:
- "Eberron light"- getting to know Eberron, but not delving too deep inside.
- Highly detailed DM's point of vie
- High fantasy at iconic Eberron locations.
Status: Complete, 24 sessions, levels 2-12.

-A Mad Scientist, Cleric of Asmodeous and Zombie Edward Scissorhands attempt to raise a Giant Man-Baby made out of murdered men.
-Evil PCs who take their elected offices VERY seriously.
Status: Incomplete, but sessions are weekly/bi-weekly.

Queen's Own Troubleshooters ("Find trouble, and shoot it.") - A rookie XD20 campaign (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?439414-Queen-s-Own-Troubleshooters-%28-quot-Find-trouble-and-shoot-it-quot-%29-A-rookie-XD20-campaign)
Author: JenBurdoo
Genre: Mildly comedic fantasy
System: Homebrewed rules-lite - mostly this XD20 variant (http://rpg-tinker.blogspot.com/2014/11/heres-d20-adventure-game.html), with bits and pieces from KODT, Microlite D20, D&D 3rd and 5th, and Dark Heresy
Setting: The generic fantasy realm of Redwater, and nearby regions
Point of view: Assorted NPCs, in-character
Description: A very mixed group of inexperienced adventurers whose rookie players have no idea what to expect, in the world of a rookie DM who is desperately scrambling to keep ahead of them.
Main features: Complete beginners to RPGs are allowed to be ridiculous creative with their characters and actions. Extremely rules-lite system allows weird and fun things to happen. DM exercises more creativity writing up the sessions than she does planning them.
Status: Incomplete, seven sessions in, updating roughly once per week.

Rise of the Green Sun Princes (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?199289-Rise-of-the-Green-Sun-Princes!-%28Another-Exalted-Log%29)
Author: TheCountAlucard
Genre: A little High Fantasy, a little Shonen, other elements.
System: Exalted 2e (2.5e toward the end)
Setting: The fantastical world of Creation, mostly the Northeast and the Demon City.
Point of view: Storyteller
Description:
A group of mortals are chosen by the mighty, imprisoned Titans to work their will on the world they created, the world that now shuns them. A musician, a warrior, a merchant, a housewife… blessed with the twisted gift of Infernal power, they can now rock the pillars of Heaven! But will their rise bode well or ill for Creation? What legends will be told of their deeds?
Main features: A larger-than-life cast of characters on an unholy quest to shake things up! Intra-party conflict! Great battles! Less-than-stellar mechanics! Wicked demons! Players not showing up! Giant weapons, a mecha, and music concerts to make cities dance!
Status: Incomplete, and regrettably unlikely to ever see its epic conclusion; some of the involved players have since had a falling-out, and I the ST have no interest in STing another Infernals game until at least I get a fresh take on them in the new third edition.

Sagiro's Story Hour (http://stevenac.net/sagiro/StoryHour.htm)
Author: Sagiro
Genre: Fantasy
System: D&D 3.5
Setting: Homebrew setting called Abernia.
Point of view: 3rd person. The website also preserves the comments on the thread by the readers, GM, and players.
Description: Taken straight from the website's description of the first few sessions, "A group of seven strangers, brought together by an Archmage, find themselves swept up in great events as long-forgotten threats reawaken in the kingdom of Charagan. Their initial missions see them exploring ancient ruins, fighting strange monsters and falling foul of the evil Sharshun. After many successes, disaster strikes when one of the Company is suddenly killed, leaving the others trapped behind a magical barrier and facing certain doom..."
Main features: The campaign is immense and its done! This thing is about as large as all the Game of Thrones books. It starts off small and proceeds at a slow pace until the PCs are fighting gods. There are dozens of plothooks, so many that the PCs have to work with NPC allies to follow them all. Plus, it's just well-written and well played. The PCs are well characterized as are the NPCs. There's lots of dimension hopping, wars, and a decent amount of time travel if you're into those things.
Status: Complete - 396 logs in total. Sagiro estimated a ratio of 1.5 logs to sessions meaning the campaign took about 250 sessions. They played over a period of 10 years from 2001 to 2011. Sagiro lagged behind the actual campaign in writing logs of it. He finished the campaign log in 2014.

The Land of the Endless Sky: Adventures of the Crystal Order (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?379448-The-Land-of-the-Endless-Sky-Campaign-Journal)

Setting: Homebrew (The titular Land of the Endless Sky)
Point of view: GM

Main features: The world strives to be something different than a standard fantasy setting. The geography stretches on infinitely and often shifts around. Seven gods dwell within an impossibly tall tower with each present on a different day of the week. No memory exists three hundred years before the game begins and even the words are removed from books. The players developed some in-depth backstories and are very resourceful in game, with regular appearances of people from their past. Also features an updated appendix with important NPC's, deities, and factions.
Status: Incomplete: 12 sessions, updated bi-weekly to monthly. Also a greatly expanded appendix!

Main features: Smart-assed commentary about everything (not sure if that's a good thing, but certainly a feature). A very creepy, tense atmosphere from the city-state created by Jeargroth. Our "creative" plans to overcome obstacles. And snark!
Status: Complete.

"To The Hilt!" (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?481896-Ashes-to-Ashes-Dust-to-Dust-An-Eberron-Campaign-Journal)

These strange artifacts lead the group to Sharn, where they meet a wealthy collector of historical items named Gaius Anderfel. We Be Best Goblins! (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?435141-We-Be-Best-Goblins!-A-Pathfinder-Campaign-Journal)
Author: Neversterling
Genre: Fantasy-Silly-Dark
System: Pathfinder with Dreamscarred Press(Akashic, Psionics, Path of War)
Setting: Golarion(Varisia w/ some changes)
Point of view: GM
Description: The first We Be Goblins was such a blast, but what happens after? Do they all die terrible deaths to wandering adventurers, or do they succeed in their aspirations of conquering Sandpoint and pivot from the We Be Goblins modules into an all-goblin Varisian Kingmaker? Or are they captured/thrown out to sea and start a Skull n' Shackles thingy?
Main features:
* First-time GM.
* 3 evil gestalt goblins with not-so-great stats.
* Some very reprehensible gobliny activities, explicit language and graphic violence.
* My writing style is in flux, so expect some inconsistencies between posts.
Status: Incomplete: 6 sessions, updated monthly. There is probably going to be a break in the summer.

Willow's path; Way of the Wicked (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?493831-Willow-s-path-The-Way-of-the-Wicked-Campaign-Journal&highlight=Willow%27s+path)
(Unimaginative title is unimaginative)
Author: Minderp
Genre: Fantasy/ ...?
System/Campaign: Pathfinder/Way of the Wicked by Fire Mountain Games
Setting: Isle of Talingarde, far east of Golarion (not on the maps)
Point of view: PC, 3rd Person
Description:
The intricacies of a plan concocted by hell’s greatest servants was never going to be a smooth ride.
Willow Monteguard was a disgraced and condemned noble, whose only real crime was setting her sights far lower than her true station. Humility did not suit her. But she learnt that lesson, she had to know true failure to understand true greatness and real victory. Greatness to wield unthinkable power, victory to claim for the most hatred tyrant of them all. As she wages war in the shadows, she controls her puppets from afar and eliminates those whose will won’t bend. What a gilded tongue cannot soothe, a hidden blade will silence.
In the name of the dark and terrible Asmodeus, she brings his darkness to the pious and good land of Talingarde and its people. But just as the darkness feeds upon the righteous and valiant, does she know it will consume her completely?
Main features:
- A different take on the Lawful Evil character. An attempt to justify the order that outweighs the evil, to triumph over chaos.
- A constant unfolding backstory entwined in the pits of hell, that even I, as the author, do not know until it happens in game.
- A sliver of dark erotica, hints of sadomasochism.
- Mass, and I mean MASS, amounts of sass and salt.
- Epic dragon battles. (no story is complete without epic dragon battles)
- Sleazy tricksy devils. (so tricksy, precious)
- Vampires. (that don’t sparkle, but actually slaughter things)
- More sass and a little more salt.
Status: Incomplete/Ongoing. Sessions are usually played every fortnight, chapters are written before the next session.

Xorian Wars: Alliance and Rebellion (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?216560-Xorian-Wars-Alliance-and-Rebellion)
Author: Anxe
Genre: High Fantasy
System: D&D 3.5
Setting: Homebrew setting based off the Greek myths. Physically placed in an imagined geography east of the Black Sea, an area the Greeks called Cimmeria.
Point of view: 3rd person with occasional GM insights.
Description: The Xorians are expanding into the sovereign city-states of Cimmeria. They are ruled by the Dragovinians, a race of draconic vampires. The Dragovinians worship their creator, the living god Blendegad the Reaper, and their living firstborn, King Jevaninada the Second. The eastern city-states of Cimmeria formed an Alliance against Xoria, but they are on the retreat. The Reaper's minions successfully stormed the defended city of Phoenix. The cities of Eastern Cimmeria quake in fear at the power of the Empire. It is November and the Alliance must rise from the ashes and continue resisting the Xorians.
The campaign follows two parties of adventurers. One, a low level band of Dragovinians returned to their mortal status with amnesia. They now work for the Rebellion in Xoria to find the pieces of a lost prophecy. This prophecy could hold the key to defeating Blendegad. The low level band have completed their mission and further sessions following their group have been discontinued.
The other party of adventurers are a high level bunch that once associated with the Alliance opposing Xoria. They have since split off to form their own group that is following vague prophecies to fight the Xorians on their own.
Main features: First of all, the campaign is split into two different parts. A low level campaign and a high level campaign. The two campaigns occasionally cross over between each other. The campaign is heavily grounded in the Greek mythos making many elements of it recognizable to a Western reader. There is plenty of political intrigue and a few sessions have no combat at all due to this. I've started attaching an illustration to every session log. When combat happens it heats up pretty quick. The PCs just reached epic levels, so we'll see even more exciting stuff going forward!
Status: Incomplete - 65 sessions as of this posting (13 Rebellion sessions, 49 Alliance sessions, and 3 Combo sessions). Sessions happen an average of once a month.

A small group of unlikely heroes is sent to deal with the invaders by the Church of the Silver Flame. Little do they know that an ominous prophecy foretells not only a great conflict, but the potential release of the most powerful of all Demon Overlords: Tiamat, the Daughter of Khyber.
Main features:
- Adapts the Red Hand of Doom campaign module to the Eberron Campaign Setting with much attention devoted to setting faithfulness.
- Tome of Battle optimized villains and additional optimization for an above-average party of six.
- Additional encounters, including an introductory battle with a rakshasa assassin on a lightning rail train.

Pathfinder Red Hand of Doom in Greyhawk (Sterich) (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?494229-Pathfinder-Red-Hand-of-Doom-in-Greyhawk-(Sterich))
Author: Elder Basilisk
Genre: Fantasy.
System: Pathfinder
Setting: Greyhawk, March of Sterich, Bova County
Point of view: Varies. Generally journal entries written from the perspective of an NPC or cohort.
Description: A veteran musters out of the Lion guard and seeks to find his fortune. A young initiate in the Knights of Hillwatch Keep is sent out to travel the world and do deeds worthy of the Archpaladin. They finds a massive hobgoblin invasion, but will the song of their deeds be a triumph against the odds or a tragedy?
Main features:
-Greyhawk interpreted as D&D meets Game of Thrones. Sword and sorcery with feudal overtones and political wranglings.
-Red Hand of Doom doesn't start at level one! But this one started at level one to set the stage and foreshadow things to come. Eventually, this plans to take the adventure beyond the end of the Red Hand and tackle the Istivin trilogy from Dungeon magazine.
-Adapts Red Hand of Doom to the world of Greyhawk and the Pathfinder setting with particular attention paid to the responses of NPCs so that both the villains' plans and the responses of the Elsir vale make sense and there are reasons that the vale is on their own despite being part of the larger world.
-Mid-optimization adaptation of the original with low-mid optimization PCs in an unbalanced party.
Status: Incomplete. Currently in progress. 24 Sessions so far. Campaign schedule varies but typically one to two sessions per month.

The Red-Handest and Doomest of All RHoD Journals (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?417731-NO-SPOILERS!-The-doomest-and-red-handest-of-all-RHoD-Campaign-Journals!)
Author: Jon_Dahl
Genre: Dark Fantasy
System: D&D 3.5
Setting: Greyhawk
Point of view: Storyteller
Description: The campaign has been relatively loyal to the original adventure, but it has been tweaked a bit easier for low-level characters and there's less magic in it, such as you can't buy magic items from stores etc. The adventure being set in Greyhawk is somewhat questionable since everything happens on Thalios which is an apocryphal island that doesn't appear in any of the official GH material.
Main features: The DM is doesn't hint or advise in any way unless the players ask, and they don't ask. Lots of failures in the course of the adventure. Fumble rules are in effect.
Status: Complete, 11 sessions.

(EDIT: For new readers!
We're interrupting this post to bring to your attention a development form later in the thread (Post 69):

2. Reorganization and discussion?
I've encountered a few problems when I added the two entries, and going over the logs:
1. Length of the archive's posts-:Once more it's over 50,000 letters... So, I trimmed down what I could in Formatting, (No content was hurt, but I'll have trouble adding more...
2. Currently the logs are archived as 1 big list, in an alphabetical order (Yes, there's a division by genre, but still...) An archive should do better, no?
3. After the archive itself, the posts consists of nothing but requests for adding entries, confirmations and updates or such... Which is... frankly... boring and tiresome.

We're in the process of fixing it. Nothing to worry about, move along citizen... :smallwink:
End of transmission...)

------------------------------------------------------------

We got our first two logs (Other than mine) in. Hopefully more will come. If any of you know of a log you think should be archived here, let me know, and I'll ask the writer (Or you can, as you wish!)

I remember a great piece of work, not on the GiTP (Forgot where), a log about a farmer, in little town, who trained horses, sold pelts and the like. Really short session logs (They were done before the "main" session of the group, with the one player playing the farmer). I can't seem to find it. Farmer Joe? Farmer Jack? Farmer John? Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Anyway, I've sent requests to the main people I remember. If you weren't invited, please don't be offended- i don't know all of the logs (Like the many logs of the RHoD...), but I'm more than willing to post them. Either write me an entry in a private message, or just post an entry here on the thread. I'll arrange for it to get up in the main archive pages.

Hoping this would work!

Thanks Telasi, 13_CBS! Your logs are added. 13_CBS, I added a "main features" part for each of the logs, with a bit of my own impression (And that I got generally from the crowd of readers). I though it would help attract those who don't know of these logs yet. If you disagree I will remove them.

Thanks to you both. More logs will be coming!

Sorry for the long delay in adding the logs, a few crazy days.
I added The excellent Kaveman26 journals, as well as those of Lappy9001, Curious puzzle and Axinian.

Keep em coming!

On a related note, Some of you know Saph's excellent journals. She (he?) doesn't have time to write her logs entries, but gave permission for others to write these. So if anyone read them, enjoyed them, and watns to do them justice, feel free to give it a try. Please write to me in PM the entry, so not to clatter the thread. I will try to do the RHoD one, as I've read it all, but I know Seven Kingdoms less. Feel free to try them out!

Cool idea! I'd definitely like to see this stickied. We occasionally get those threads where people want to find campaign logs. Won't need them if we have a stickied thread. Or a subforum.

And since you asked...

Xorian Wars: Alliance and Rebellion (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?216560-Xorian-Wars-Alliance-and-Rebellion)
Author: Anxe
Genre: High Fantasy
System: D&D 3.5
Setting: Homebrew setting based off the Greek myths. Physically placed in an imagined geography east of the Black Sea, an area the Greeks called Cimmeria.
Point of view: 3rd person with occasional GM insights.
Description: The Xorians are expanding into the sovereign city-states of Cimmeria. They are ruled by the Dragovinians, a race of draconic vampires. The Dragovinians worship their living creator god, Blendegad the Reaper, and their living firstborn, King Jevaninada the Second. The eastern city-states of Cimmeria formed an Alliance against Xoria, but they are on the retreat. The Reaper's minions successfully stormed the defended city of Phoenix. The cities of Eastern Cimmeria quake in fear at the power of the Empire. It is October and the Alliance must rise from the ashes and continue resisting the Xorians.
The campaign follows two parties of adventurers. One, a low level band of Dragovinians returned to their mortal status with amnesia. They now work for the Rebellion in Xoria to find the pieces of a lost prophecy. This prophecy could hold the key to defeating Blendegad. The other party of adventurers are a high level bunch that once associated with the Alliance opposing Xoria. They have since split off to form their own group that is struggling to follow vague prophecies and fight the Xorians on their own.
I've started attaching an illustration to every session log and despite what I said in the last sentence there's still plenty of heart-pounding combat to go around!
Status: Incomplete - 54 sessions as of this posting (9 Rebellion sessions, 43 Alliance sessions, and 2 Combo sessions). Sessions happen an average of once a month.

I'd also like to point out Sagiro's Story Hour from EN World's forums. The story was collected by one of the readers on his website which is probably the best place to access it now.

I've updated the Xorian Wars log. Should I be telling you that everytime so that the number of sessions is correct here? It probably isn't that important, but I was curious how we were handling that.

Kol Korran
2015-01-30, 05:39 AM
The idea behind the number of sessions is to give a rough estimate to the reader. I don't think we should update on every single sessions, but rather on signification changes ( 5-10 sessions or so?) I suggest you just send me a private message when you'd like your king's entry to be updated, and I'll see to it.

Minor question, should this thread maybe have a "Journal" tag, even if it's not technically one itself? If someone's searching journals, it seems useful to have a thread with summaries and links to journals that aren't tagged show up.

Due to the fact that most journal writers stop writing after 2-3 sessions (From various reasons), I add logs only after a few sessions, to see the writer does keep going. I read the crazy weird affair of your gaming so far, and it looks quite amazing, and a very unique tale to add, but I'll do so after a few more sessions are logged.

Nevertheless - I'm finally up to 19 chapters and we'll be up to 20 after tonight. I'll have the new write up in a few days!

Thanks!

Edit: I'm now up to 20 chapters.

Been about 10 sessions since my entry was put up and the dynamic of the campaign has changed significantly. Updated entry!

Nibbens and Anxe- Entries updated!

I should look again for new interesting campaign logs, I've been a bit away from the forums for a while... If anyone wants to suggest a good log, not already mentioned here, please do!

Not sure I can suggest anything other than this thread getting a sticky. It should be easy for us forumites to find and add to after that.

Hm... maybe Bloody Crown (totally stumbled on this one more than a year ago, cant stop reading it) being run by LCP or any of his others. Though, it is on this forum already...

I've got a new campaign to add as well:

"Desperate Men, Desperate Measures" (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?457204-quot-Desperate-Men-Desperate-Measures-quot-A-Star-Wars-Saga-Edition-Campaign-Journal)

Author: Kid Jake
Genre: Sci-Fi
System: Star Wars Saga Edition
Setting: Star Wars, Rebellion Era
Point of view: 3rd Person, some GM commentary.
Description: A treasure trove of Clone War surplus has been discovered on a backwater planet barely in recorded space, more than enough to make any man that captures it a major player in the interplanetary underworld. Too bad for the unlucky saps sent to recover the planet's riches that its most valuable treasure turns out to be a scheming AI that wants to impose its will on the universe.
Main Features: Everything wants to kill them. Everything. The crime boss that trapped them here. The droid army they unleashed. The horrible jungle life. Even the weather seems determined to watch these people die.
Status: Ongoing and incomplete.

Adventures in Vistora (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?474424-Adventures-in-Vistora-Journal-of-a-Roll20-Campaign) (AKA "Go Team Dumbass")
Author: Debatra
Genre: Fantasy/Humor
System: D&D 3.5e, with a few elements from other systems (like being Bloodied)
Setting: Custom setting of the DM's design
Point of view: Player, out of character, 3rd person
Description: What starts with a group of (evidently not-too-bright) tavern owners/mercenaries being sent to deliver a letter to an Orc chief turns into an interplanar war for their homeland.
Main features: Game contains a Truenamer (who went into it fully aware of the class's "issues"). Critical success/failure on skill checks is in effect, leading to some interesting situations.
Status: Incomplete; game still in progress. Usually played weekly, with each session posted before the next game. Four sessions logged, with the fifth in progress at time of writing.

Hey all:
# Nibbens: I don't update number of sessions every 1-2 updates. Just when a significant change has been made (say...5+ sessions). It's supposed to give the reader a general idea of the length of the log.

# Kid Jake: Added! Thanks!

#Debatra: Can you make the description a bit shorter? It's supposed to be short and concise, not the intro to the campaign. Also, if possible, not in a quote?

Kyrpra Forest 3.5 (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?387664-Campaign-Log-Kyrpra-Forest-3-5-(-quot-The-Hydra-Sermon-quot-and-other-tales)) (The Hydra Sermon and other tales)
Author: Turbo164
Genre: Fantasy (often comedic)
System: D&D 3.5

Many journeys are made through the Kyrpra forest, site of an epic mage war of centuries past where purple trees and crocodile-squirrels are the least of your worries. Puzzle-filled towers award grand prizes to those who overcome their challenges, and the enigmatic salesman Jack will happily offer a deal on your winnings...
Main features:
*DM Notes expand on design choices and how things often don't go as planned ^_^
*Usually light-hearted in tone, though some serious drama does occur.
*Large amounts of custom monsters and items.
*Creative players and a permissive DM.
Status: 61 sessions over 3 years, still ongoing.

Added turbo164's Krypra Forest campaign log. (Go read it!)

And... with that addition, a single post for all the log was too long, so I moved all of the non fantasy journals into the post after it. :smalltongue:

Hope you don't mind...

Hey all! Sorry for the lack of updates. I've been quite busy, (Got married, a new child, diploma and more!) and haven't had the time to look for more journals to add to the archive.

AslanCross wrote to me, and I just added his Eberron Red Hand of Doom campaign log. (If you're a fan of either the setting or the adventure, check it out! It's phenomenal!)

On that note- if any of you have seen any log that isn't on the archive, whether it's yours or someone elses, please let me know, either here or by PM. Thanks!

Hello again! I'll be requesting help (!) in this post!

Due to a recent thread looking for fun logs to read (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?523223-Fun-3-5-campaign-logs-to-read), and some interesting responses, I got back to the archive. I've sent some requests from authors (Or readers) for entries.

1. New updates:
- "Willow's Path- Way of The Wicked" by minderp. From the PCs point of view. Explores the AP from her perspective. Nicely written!
- Red hand of Doom in Sterich (By Elder Basilisk). A familiar module, but with his own spins and adjustments to it.

More are upcoming! :smallwink: (Waiting on the entries).

So... I thought of doing a bit or reorganization? I'd like some opinions and thoughts. Currently my ideas are as such:
1. Transfer the material here to new threads (Perhaps even an out-of-site wiki?). One thread will be for the archive, and general discussion about the archives and the material within (Not full blown discussions about a specific issue in one campaign log, but possibly reviews, comparisons, anecdotes and such...) Another "Side thread" (the two will have obvious links to each other in the first posts), will be for Submitting new entries, updating entries (Such as number of sessions and so on), and other "archive technical management" stuff.

2. I wish to reorganize the archive, not just by genres and lists. Possibly by quick tables at start (Possibly by author? System? Length? Popularity?). Yet I'm unsure... Have never done such a thing before, and I'm not much of a computer man... How would you suggest to do so?

3. I feel that I may have gotten overenthusiastic, by approaching many log authors in the past for campaign logs which they just started, and which have halted quite abruptly, without much progress...As part of the reorganization, I think of perhaps contacting authors and asking them about the log will be continued (I know VERY WELL about having to take long hiatuses), or whether to mark it as an "Unfinished tale". I think that may be important for readers of the log.

4. Speaking of long hiatuses... I'm not sure I'm the right person to keep this up. Yes, I like it. And yes, some people have favorably commented on the archive, but... due to being VERY busy in real life, I barely got time to write on the site, and keep looking for new logs, new authors, and to boldly archive, what has never... :smalltongue: So, if anyone likes the idea, but wishes for it to be updated faster (And perhaps wider ,from logs on other sites), perhaps I should just "pass it on"?

Hmmmm... So, I'd appreciate any thoughts, input, comments and suggestions. Either on the ideas above, or anything else that you think should be said. Eh? :smallconfused:

I'd recommend a Google Sheet of some kind. It allows for easy sorting of data however you want it. If someone wants to find all the fantasy logs they just sort by genre and go to fantasy. If they like a certain author they can search by author easily. It also allows for easy transfer of "ownership" if you don't have the time to maintain it. Just setup the link you post here so that anyone who uses that link can edit the sheet. Furthermore, if anyone feels like adding a new classification category, like GORE FACTOR, or something, it's easy to just pop in a new column on the sheet.

Rather than marking something as an official "Unfinished Tale" I'd recommend just listing the last time an update was made. Unfinished Tale, true as it may be, could be taken as an insult by some people and might discourage completion of the log. Checking up on authors could unfortunately have the same result. Simply listing the last time an update was made will convey the same information without the potential for putting anybody out.

A Swordsage's Journal: The Gladiator Arena (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?169149-A-Swordsage-s-Journal-The-Gladiator-Arena)
Author: Dralnu
Genre: Fantasy
System: D&D 3.5
Setting: Generic D&D world
Point of view: 1st person in character player perspective (with out of character musings)
Description: A couple prisoners are thrown into a gladiator arena for the entertainment of goblinoids. These, uh, "heroes" band together to escape and end up fighting in a hobgoblin war for purely selfish reasons.
Main features: Comedic writing style. We make with the jokes. It was also our first time trying out the Tome of Battle supplement, so you get to read our first impressions of it.
Status: Incomplete. We had 9 great sessions until busy schedules caused the campaign to fizzle.

Author: Diego Havoc
Genre: Sci-fi, mecha (anime style)
System: Battle Century G
Setting: Original setting
Point of view: Player, 3rd person, OOC
Description: When the country of Neovara on planet Aura begins recruiting for a new mech pilot team, a group of unusual individuals sign up and get dragged into a war over territory, resources, and magical super powers.
Main features: Mix of serious and comidic moments, some pictures, links to fun stuff in the out-of-context thread.
Status: Incomplete (12 sessions). 1st campaign has one more session update to go. Complete! The sequel campaign will likely start in 2-3 months.

That's a good idea Anxe. I'll see if I can set it up. May take a little while though, due to the above mentioned time constraints...

Thanks, it may make the archive easier to navigate, search through and update.
