What would happen if characters had sex in dungeons and dragons? What are the rules? My DM said I had to make a ride check when the prostitute seduced my Fighter, but I'm not sure. What do you think?

There are actually books published under official D20 license that I saw on sale for this kind of thing last year at GenCon. The only one I remember distinctly was the Book of Erotic Fantasy. Viewer discretion advised.

FUNNY? Huh. Not the word I'd use. It's pretty screwed up—no pun intended—and is just fuel for the stereotypical horny basement teen player. I mean, seriously, additional ring slots through genitalia piercings? That's even dumber than a Ride check. I'd leave sex checks out of D+D entirely, as they would just lead to extensive diversions and attempts to use them. Which is actually pretty realistic, if you think about it, but still not useful for the game.

And a lot of stuff in the BoEF is actually quite broken, if you have the stomach to examine it closely enough.

I'd never BUY it. But i've seen it in PDF form. It's amusing.

Most of it's utterly useless. But much of it is quite funny. Some of it's even useful for certain campaign settings.

I made it a profession: prostitute check. Unlike other profession checks, this one uniquely applies charisma instead of wisdom.

But that's just to seduce people and make money out of it. Why in the world would anyone need to stat out the actual act? It's like rolling to eat.

A Ride check? Is your DM a virgin? No offense intended, it's ... just off. :smallconfused:

I've made it a Perform check modified by Wisdom instead of Charisma, if you want to do it well. To simply do it mechanically doesnt even need a check I'd gauge.

Keeping our games to a cinematic PG-13ish level, characters make out -- the check is made -- then I do a cutscene to afterward with attitudes adjusted based on the check.

Rape, which I wouldnt condone for PCs or NPCs, would be a grapple check with an extra "If Pinning" options.

Let me just say Ed Greenwood would love this book.

But that may have been covered in the comment "and is just fuel for the stereotypical horny basement teen player."

(Note that that's not a knock against Greenwood: Faerun is my favorite campaign setting. But I have read and preferred greenwood's "unofficial" explanations of certain FR things that TSR and Wizards always have considered a bit too racy for publishing. Eg. Alustriel (http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Castle/2566/ed-alustriel.htm))

I used the term "sorceress" loosely.

And Fyodor was fairly intelligent. Not precisely a barbarian either...some odd PrC.
That does not mean that their relationship did not develop far too quickly to be realistic (as realistic as one can be in a world of high fantasy). And Fyodor was a Barbarian/Frenzied Berzerker/Bear Warrior-as much a barbarian as one can be.

And Elaine Cunningham > Ed Greenwood.
In character interaction and development I would agree. In combat scenes mr Greenwood is better.

Perhaps. But Salvatore writes action/combat better than Greenwood. The rest of his writing has vastly improved of late, too. The "Hunter's Blades" trilogy was, like, well written, or something. I think he hired a really good editor.

The Netbook of Unlawful Carnal Knowledge has a better system than the BoEF, but it's also more complex. I do like Prowess being it's own skill, rather than a subset of Perform, though. Lets people other than Bards and Rogues get in on the act.
BoEF has more interesting stuff other than that, though. Although 3x Tantric + Spheres of Enlightenment + Rod of the Erotic Spirit (Tantric) = pwntastic wizard/wu jen/beguiler.

I'd put Fyodor as a Fighter with a template, myself. Although Frenzied Berzerker fits him very well.

I chose Perform because it covers "entertaining" but Wisdom (senstivity to your lover) is more apt than Charisma in this case. Never read an game text on eroticism in games.

For public displays, where the aim is to entice the audience, it would just be Perform (Acting) -- regardless of how bad it usually is in porn. :smallamused:

With all the skills that could apply to sex, you could break it down into lots of different things...

Profession [prostitute]
Profession [dance]
Use rope
Knowledge [erotica]
Knowledge [biology]

Or if you want to be cruder...
Knowledge [dungeonering]

Are you implying that as the number of Rich Burlews increases to infinity, their work output approaches 7, making each Rich Burlew weaker than the last?

EDIT: It's simply not possible, as that would make a Rich Burlew that was eventually lame, which is impossible, as proven by the laws of physics. Therefore, there can only be One.

Uhh... because I feel like adding something mildly on-topic... here (http://commissionedcomic.com/index.php?strip=56).

And generally, there's really no need to roll for something like that. Fade to black if it really does come up.
My theory is that the awesomest Rich Burlew decapitated the others, and then blew up the planet and flew away while screaming "UNLIMITED POWER!" We, being mere mortals, haven't noticed yet.

Hey, if you gotta cross thin ice, you might as well cross it in a dance.
