Lupin Scent

Hi, i was looking at the Lupin race from the dragon compendium and saw that they have a racial ability called acute sense of smell, my question is, does this count as scent for the track feat, if not i also heard from somewhere that there was a feat that gave lupin the scent ability, does anybody know what book that's in and what page.

Well, the Acute Sense of Smell ability isn't scent. It is compared to scent, but isn't a simple alternate of scent (that is to say, an ability that would use the wording 'as Scent, but X'), so you can't assume it to have any of the abilities that Scent has. That, and it specifically says 'Lupins can't track by scent alone.' Acute Sense of Smell specifically provides a +2 bonus on tracking checks for their keen senses, but no more than that.


I don't know anything about a feat for Lupins, but in theory anyone could get scent by picking up the Hunter's Sense stance from Tome of Battle. You'd likely have to spend two feats on it though, or one level.
