So Unholy Scion is a +5 LA, +1 to +3 CR Template from Heroes of Horror that can be applied to any humanoid or animal.
Amongst many goodies that the Unholy Scion gets, such as SLAs that scale off of RHD, the one that stands out as a point of interest at the moment is a continuous Charm Person or Charm Animal effect on its mother, who never gets a save against the effect and whose senses the Unholy Scion can choose to use and manifest their SLAs through.
My question to you, O Playgrounders, is, just what can we do to beef up that mama and make her a great platform for using SLAs such as Dominate Person, Animate Dead, Desecrate, Harm, or Gate through? Let's assume that Mama is starting off as a humanoid of some sort and with only 1 level of Commoner when she gets pregnant and falls in thrall to her unborn unholy scion offspring and that we can't just force her to level by running her through a Tippyverse obstacle course.
So far all I can come up with offhand is making Mama some sort of crappy IKEA Tarrasque knock-off by infecting her with as much lycanthropy and/or emantothropy as possible and then possibly using something like Psychic Reformation to put those skillpoints and feats into whatever configuration one desires.
A base race that's humanoid or a template that's compatible with Unholy Scion and gives further abilities for possessing HD or RHD, like the way Raptorans have scaling flight abilities based on their HD or Dragonborn have 1 of 3 options seems like it would be generally preferable. (Can people who are forced into becoming Dragonborn via Charm Person successfully complete the ritual?)
So what are some good base races, base templates, and templates or other alterations we can make to Mama to make her be the best extra pair of eyes and ears we could ask for?
