21:15, 15 Sypheros, 998 YK (Mid-Autumn)
The city of Rekkenmark
Groelan’s Brewery&Alehouse.

This modest estate houses one of the worst regarded breweries of the famed Nightwood Ale. Lots of people and good enter and leave the place at all hours but, as the locals, will tell you, the end result has never amounted to much. The owners have spent much, but they clearly have little talent for their chosen field. Thankfully, this is not any more the building’s primary purpose…

You were discreetly led to the establishment’s back room and through a secret door to a stairway until you finally found yourselves at the hidden subbasement. A handful of people are already here, mostly human, with a brawny red scaled Dragonborn offering an exotic touch This level includes two offices, a library, a small laboratory, an interrogation room and the modest conference room which is your destination. The large wooden table and the seats are around it were chosen with a strictly utilitarian mind. The room’s only decoration is the large flag of Karrnath on the Eastern wall. A short, unimposing middle-aged man in grey clothes is already sitting at the table’s head. His voice is cool, like the air around you.

“ Right on time. Excellent. Be seated, agents”.

“You all know what your purpose will be here. Karrnath is in need of your services. Some of you were chosen because of your patriotism and actions for King and Country during the wars. Others represent the interests of Dragonmarked Houses or friendly nations who realize that a strong Karrnath is the best hope for a return to Khorvaire’s older, better days. And others embody untapped power. “ He rises. You cannot fail to notice the man’s prosthetic left arm. “ Your reasons are secondary. The recruiters judged you as worth to join the Agency and I will defer to them. You accepted our offer and are expected to act as loyal agents of King Kaius the III and Regent Moranna. Professionalism and discretion…or the lack thereof…will meet their just rewards.”

The man allows for a couple of seconds to pass, then continues. “ I am Terranek Voth, your supervisor. Your references have been impressive and your first mission will be a demanding one”. Voth opens a scroll case and offers to each of you a sketch of a fair-haired half-elf man. His oval face is handsome, with large mischievous eyes and a short beard. “Agent Morlas Sulinar has loyally served Karrnath for more than a decade. For the last eight months he has been active in Stormhome. His correspondence has been regular until its abrupt stop eight days ago. Your mission is to ascertain agent Sulinar’s current whereabouts and extricate him back to Karrnath if compromised. You should be aware that the Regent has taken a personal interest in this situation.”

Voth sits back. “ I expect you have questions…but first, please introduce yourselves to the rest of your team.”

Weiller Rawt, the Halfling Bard (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showsinglepost.php?p=18707570&postcount=3)

1. King Kaius the III, king of Karrnath.
Although some Karrns do not trust the monarch, they acknowledge that he is methodical, powerful and skilled. Afterall, Karrns always admired strong rulers and have more respect for a leader they fear than for a beloved weakling. Many warlords chafe at his initatives for peace and his pivotal role at the Treaty of Thronehold. Sill, he has yet to recall the declaration of martial law,and the corpse collectors are still operating behind the scenes.

2. The Order of the Emerald Claw
These fanatical warriors, followers of the Blood of Vol all, were once hailed as heroes and patriots. Nowadays the knightly order has been outlawed, its brutal activities denounced and its agents are wanted. They won many victories for Karrnath at the beginning of the war and still have their followers, not only in Karrnath but in most civilised parts of the continent as well. Think Hydra. And oh, how bitter they are...

3. King Boranel of Breland
Breland is probably the strongest rival of Karrnath among the five nations. Its armies are strong and well-provisioned, its resources bountiful, the king is well respected and its industry second to none, while Boranel's ties to House Medani ensure that the Warning Guild often reinforces Breland's counterintelligence. Unfortunately for the nation, it suffers from corruption and crime while the issue of succession remains unresolved. Breland's Dark lanterns were the united kingdom of Galifar's intelligence agency and its resources surpass its competitors among the Five Nations.

4. The Church of the Silver Flame/Thrane
Eberron's primary monotheistic religion, the Silver Flame binds the fiendish Overlords deep into the depths of Khyber and calls for the pure of heart to stand against evil. Thus, the church seeks to cleanse the world from evil in the world, from fiends and undead to corruption and greed. Unfortunately, a significant mumber of its members will fanatically use every means for this goal, descending to darkness in the name of good. The Church rules the nation of a Thrane, Karrnath's most bitter rival, as a theocracy. Thrane and Karrnath fought some of the Last War's bloodiest battles against each other, with atrocities comitted by both sides. Its intelligence organisation, the Silver Torch, is young and not as spread as most of the competition, but may call upon divination magic.

5. The Blood of Vol
The cult of the Blood of Vol worships no god or deity but instead the divinity that lies within all mortals. Seekers do not believe in divine beings but seek the divinity within themselves believing in the life and godliness that flows through blood itself. The Blood of Vol tends to appeal to those who wish to improve themselves and those who are driven due to the faiths focus on the individual's inner-self. Some followers join the religion because they believe that the concept of a god is unfathomable. Unfortunately the faith is incredibly appealing to death fetishists, necromancers and seekers of immortality. The high position of the undead within the church might surprise those outside the faith. Vampires, liches, and mummies no longer have blood or life, and so can never fully bond to the Divinity Within. The Seekers believe that the intelligent undead have made this terrible sacrifice to overcome mortality and to serve the sect. Thus, they are revered and respected, but they are also pitied, for they can never touch perfection. The undead are champions of the church, guiding the people of Vol to their true destiny, but few who follow the faith would make that terrible choice. The largest and most famous of all Vol's temples is the Crimson Monastery in Atur, the City of Night, in Karrnath.

6. House Deneith
House Deneith's human members bear the mark of Sentinel. This house whose members are highly-acclaimed mercenaries and bodyguards known for their efficiency and martial skill. Deneith are the muscle of the dragonmarked houses, providing raw power to a nation's army. Taking sides is bad for business, so during the Last War, Deneith remained neutral and provided soldiers to all sides. Now that the war has ended Deneith members are hired for guarding monarchs and chasing down criminals. It is based in the historical Karrnathi city of Karrlakton.

7. House Thuranni
The elves of House Thuranni bear the mark of Shadow. House Thuranni is the youngest of the dragonmarked houses. Their Shadow Network boasts of exquisitely trained and talented are artists, entertainers and beautiful courtiers. Unknown to the public they also deal in information gathering, spying and assassinations. Having splintered from the ancient House Phiarlan, Thuranni elves are ambitious, daring and iconoclastic. Usually they work for instead of against Karrnathi interests, but only a fool would trust a dragonmarked House to stay faithful to any faction but itself.

8. Queen Aurala of Aundair
The manipulative, savvy Queen Aurala rules a feudal land of refinement and arrogance. Of all the five nations, Aundair possesses the greatest arcane might and magical resources, renowned both in agricultural and academical fields. Aundairian military tactics emphasise maneuverability with light cavalry and magical support from wands. The Royal Eyes of Aundair are Queen Aurala's favourite tool-an impressive network of spies with various magical means at their disposal. Aundair's resources are swiftly regrowing and runours say tha aurala and her courtiers are most ambitious.

9. House Cannith
House Cannith is another human dragonmarked house whose members are well known for their innovation and advancements in technology. They are responsible for technological wonders such as the Warforged and the Lightning rail. The bearers of the mark of Making used to be the most politically powerful House, but the destruction of their Forgehold on the Day of Mourning and the provisions of the Treaty of Thronehold have weakened Cannith, which has splintered to three factions. One of them, led by the ruthless baron Zorlan d'Cannith, is based in the Karrnathi capital, Korth.

10. The Wayfinder Foundation
Founded by lord Boroman ir' Dayne, an aged halfling of fame and numerous exploits, the Foundation is a guild for adventurers and explorers that funds dangerous expeditions to exotic locales, as well as giving bold adventurers a place to display their trophies and tell tall tales. The Wayfinder Foundation is an exclusive organization. Membership is by invitation only, and offers are extended only to renowned adventurers and explorers. The Wayfinder Foundation is very much an alliance of individuals, and each Wayfinder has a distinctly different personality.

11. The Trust
Zilargo is peaceful, orderly land, citizen. Why, its gnomes are always friendly and talkative. Law-abiding and industrious, the Zil maintain no real city watch and do not need a large standing army like some other uncouth folk. There is the Trust, and it makes sure that everything goes smoothly. Some will, of course, point out that the Trust is a secretive police that will ruthlessly stamp down any transgression swiftly and mercilessly, without any court of law in the process, that any Zil might be an agent and that its agents employ blackmail, bribery and manipulation across the continent. These people fail to see the good that the Trust does for Zilargo and indeed for civilisation...and its effectiveness against the enemy of the Zil.Always remember that. Good day, citizen.

12. The Lord of Blades
Visionary, prophet, warlord, madman, tyrant...The Lord of Blades has fanatical followers and sworn enemies. No one knows exactly when or where the enigmatic entity known as the Lord of Blades was created. Currently he resides in an undisclosed location in the Mournland where he leads a band of warforged who seek to destroy or enslave all races of the flesh. Think of him as a warforged Magneto(and an old-school Magneto, that is)

13. The Twelve
An arcane institution funded by the dragonmarked houses, the Twelve operates out of a thirteen-tiered keep that floats above the city of Korth in Karrnath. The institute has been responsible for the development of many arcane advances, such as the airships operated by House Lyrandar and the message stations of House Sivis. As an arm of the dragonmarked houses, the Twelve attempted to remain neutral during the Last War. However, many of the wizards and artificers of the Twelve had national loyalties that were stronger than their ties to the institute and chose to leave to fight in the war. Quite a few fell in battle. Now that the Twelve has resumed normal operations, it seeks to replace its fallen members and make sure that each house is represented.

From the Agency's Files

One of the Five Nations of Khorvaire, Karrnath is a nation ruled by King Kaius III that is proud of its martial heritage and is the oldest of the Five Nations. It was founded by Karrn the Conqueror over two thousand years ago. The nation is particularly noted for its widespread use of undead troopers during the Last War and also the ruthless dictatorship of its monarch.
Tradition. discipline, and excellence in all things define Karrnath.

In 894 YK. King Kaius I, tuler of Karrnath. joined with his siblings in rejecting Mishann of Cyre's claim to the crown. Food shortages and plagues quickly undermined Karrnath's military prowess, however. forcing the nation to use necromancy to raise undead soldiers froml those fallen in bailie. These dark reinforcements came at a terrible price and Karrnath's reputation suffered greatly as a result.

Even with undead soldiers, Karrnath continued to suffer during the war. The perils of disease and hunger constantly loomed
over the nation and warfare's wreckage littered its borders a nd ruined its cities. In an attempt to reassert the power of the monarchy late in the war, Regent Moranna and King Kaius III ended the state's sponsorship of the Blood of Vol religion. exiled the extremist Order of the Emerald Claw, and reined in wayward Karrnathi warlords. After the Mourning, King Kaiuls III became one of the greatest proponents for peace. He withdrew his undead armies, called for ceasefires and was instrumental in brokering the historic Treaty of Thronehold.

Ovidiu stares at the man’s prosthetics. He begins to wonder what exactly made Sir Tarranek have to replace his arm. Was it lost in battle? Was it a punishment? The necromancer began to wonder whether or not the cards were stacked for him or against him. This mission would be a “demanding one”, after all.

Ovidiu then realized he still has yet to introduce himself.
‘Of course.’ He thought, and then opened his mouth.
“I’m Ovidiu, a member of the Blood of Vol, housed in Atur… Or, at least, a former one. I was sent here because I supposedly demonstrated an uncanny skill for wizardry. I doubt that it matters much, but I’m pleased to make your acquaintance.”

Those words were hardly true. At least, not yet. But it was only polite. The temple life necessitated that one be.
Ovidiu then quieted himself, waiting for the next person to speak.

Val perches on his chair, face neutral as he took in all of his supervisor's information. He had felt uneasy at first as their escort led them into a brewhouse, but his fears of unprofessionalism or forced social drinking were quickly assuaged in the face of this spartan interior. Casting an eye around, he finds himself comparing these facilities to those possessed by House Thuranni. Of course, the comparison is unfair, but . . . only barely so. He can see the potential of this outfit.

"I am Val Naïlo, of House Thuranni. It is a pleasure to meet you all, and I hope we may establish an efficient and mutually-beneficial working relationship. Please feel free to request my services in bodyguarding, intelligence-gathering, or targeted killing. I am, above all, at your service," he concludes in a soft voice, forming a gentle smile on his lips and bowing his head slightly to everyone at the table.

Courtesy and professionalism. Above all, courtesy and professionalism.

A stout halfling in dark but official clothing eyes the rest of the room. He doesn't look like any sort of super-skilled secret agent type, but maybe that's the point. He wears the official crest of the house on the front of his cloak for the time being. While their host's prosthetic is interesting, the halfling seems more interested in his surroundings. "The name's Weiller, representin' the noble House of Ghallanda. Speakin'a which, does this establishment have the endorsement of Ghallanda?"

Click wasn't exactly a strong runner. On the ground even Larin herself was faster than him, and with their last saddle being broken at the bottom of a river they'd need to buy a new one before she could take to the air with him again. That said it was significantly easier just sitting on top of Click and guiding him with her knees than trying to push and pull him through a building. Click sometimes got a little nervous inside.

Adjusting the goggles on her forehead and flipping her red scarf behind her, Larin looked over her new companions. Kind of a dour bunch huh? "Nice ta meet y'all. The name's Larin Hornscraper - aeronaut ext-"

"BWAWK!" the pteranodon beneath her screeched.

"...aeronaut ext-"

"BWAWK!"

"Oh fer- here!" the halfling scolded her mount, grabbing an apple from her pouch and shoving it down it's mouth hard enough it coughed for a few moments before contently chirping and chewing it's food.

"...anyway I ken fly. And am good wit' maps and animals, but mostly I ken fly," she finished.

An average height, yet extremely handsome Half-Elf wearing a well made yet boring green shirt and black pants, sits quietly, listening to his new supervisor, and watching each new companion with interest and judgement. It seems as if there is a diverse set of skills within the room, I wonder if each can live up to the hype. This opening mission seems intriguing, direct interaction with another operative and the potential for an extraction are why I signed up. Transitioning so that he's leaning forward in his chair and resting his elbow on the table in front of him, Lucian runs his left hand through his shoulder length dirty blond hair before finally speaking, You may call me Lucian or Luc, I was once a soldier. Since the end of the war, I have perform a variety of intelligence operations for a variety of clients. The military teaches each soldier the importance of the unit and the solidarity of the team, each of us is but one simple spoke on the gear, but should one spoke break, the gear can not turn. I look forward to testing my skillset alongside each of you, and assure you that I consider myself the utmost professional, a strong team player, and an unbroken spoke. Lucian leans back in his chair, anxious to hear more about their task, and to evaluate each of his new team members.

The warforged walks with the group quietly, and does so with a grace uncommon for her race. Yes, her, it would seem, some customization was evident in her body, as not many of the warforged were seen around sporting hair and hips. She adorned herself with human clothes, covering what would have been her private parts, and her eyes journeyed around with an eerie glow, as if watching something just out of sight for the others.

Platina drifts almost completely in thought when she sees the man's prosthetic arm, her mind sinks back into the past for a moment, even raising her own hand and just watching in some kind of awe or pondering. She snaps back as the scroll is shown over the table, backing a few inches back from the table as if slightly startled, but eventually analyzing the print and listening carefully to the others. She then starts, "I am Platina.", she pauses for a moment, looking at the others, "It will be an honor to serve...", she shakes her head, "-to work and collaborate with you all."

It's almost possible to hear a sigh of relief after she speaks, then turning over to Terranek, "Master Voth, might it be informed to us what was this agent's mission in Stormhome? What would be the threat expected?", she tilts her head slightly to the side, in an almost clockwork motion, waiting for an answer.

Terranek Voth nods at Platina's words. "Stormhome is the information exchange capital of Western Khorvaire, Platine. Technicalities aside, it is an Aundairian city owned by Lyrandar instead of Aurala. The Krakens' home draws all kinds of people in our business. Sulinar's mission was a tagjob- indentification of rival agents and, if possible, subversion".

Afterwards, he turns to Weiller."Mister Rawt, the establishment upstairs is most emphatically trying to avoid drawing new clients so no, it has not been approved by your House"

"Agent Sulinar was maintaining the cover of a nouveau rich socialite from New Galifar. His last residence was the Retrinal Estate. In addition, he was a member of the Leprechaun Club, a well-known club for Stormhome's rich and idle ".

Lucian listens and does his best to keep his face steady and thoughtful, even while internally he is filled with excitement, This sounds like a vacation more than a mission. Socialites, island cities, and social clubs! Raising his hand a few inches off the table with his index finger extended, indicating he has a question, Lucian will wait until Voth's attention focuses on him. I just have a few details I would like to ask about:
-Can the details or transcripts of Agent Sulinar's previous correspondences be made available to us?
-Is there anything that you can tell us about any rival agents that he encountered and made mention of in his correspondences before his disappearance?
-Are there any additional rival Agents expected to have been working in the area around the same time?
-Are there presently any other friendly Agents operating in the are?
-There had to have been a specific mission/mark that Agent Sulinar was initially sent there to investigate, what/who was it?

Lucian will wait patiently for the answer, while trying to discreetly observe Voth's reactions and expressions, looking for indications of half-truths and omissions in his answers.

Ovidiu chuckles a little at the halfling and her pterandon. It's not loud, but it's audible. Clearly the entry requirements were as low as he thought they were. Rarely does someone without any military service enter a special regiment, which is even less likely when their magic is taken with a bit lip by most of the military. So, it made sense there would be outliers.

Ovidiu waits for everyone to finish and listens in on Terranek's speech. He stays silent, preferring to not ask any questions. But his thoughts lead unto other things, such as the resort. While he knew that this mission should not be taken lightly, it was relaxing to ponder such things regardless. It's clear that the hard missions had yet to come

Weiller clicks his tongue and shakes his head with a knowing smile. "So yer headquarters for yer new spy ring is a tavern that no one goes into but shifty cloak and dagger types? Not 'xactly subtle. Ah well. We're all new in the game once," he says with a chuckle. No doubt he'd have something more to say about this establishment later. These types of seedy places were just as valuable to Ghallanda as busy, popular joints, as they offered a different kind of profit. Now wasn't the time to get into that though, when there was other work to be done, especially when said work might put him in a more favorable position to negotiate House business later. For the most part he tries to let the others ask the questions. "What can ye tell us about the Retrinal Estate and the Leprechaun club? I don't s'pose ye have any maps of the place on hand?"

"Sounds like a pretty simple search and rescue ta me," Larin admitted. "Unless you suspect foul play. Which ta be fair comes with the territory, but just as likely he's in a gutter somewhere," she halfling shrugged, gently stroking her mounts neck to keep him calm. "Foul play or not though I'm ya girl."

An island city? There had to be some CRAZY thermals around there. Not to mention the smell of the sea all around them, the horizon going on forever... it sounded like a flyer's paradise.

Terranek Voth checks at a couple of scrolls and subsequently begins addressing your questions. He never raises his voice.

"I can not provide you with Sulinar's exact correspondences, mister Aldo, although I must note that the agent required information concering the ir' Dorranix and ir' Leras noble families. He was concentrating his efforts on three potential agents: a lecturer from Arcanix, a debutante of Lyrandar and a rich heiress claiming to come from New Galifar. Since this is Stormhome, rival agents are o be expected and in quantity. Your contact will be Raena Durr-her current cover is as a low-level clerk at the airship Docks. As for Sulinar's initial mission...it was a cleaning job. Warlord Rautos thought that he could indulge in cloak and dagger activities without consulting the crown. His network had to be uprooted. Probably unconnected to this case.
Profiles on agent Sulinar's targets and Raena Durr will be available to you. Simply make a request to the archivist before you leave."

"Mister Rawt, you will be provided with maps of the estate. And while I am not about to rise at such a comment, I should mention that my experience ahs been somewhat broader than a keeper of the peace for Ghallanda establishments would know. Do not attempt to bait me again.
The archivist will provide you with a map of the estate, which has been rented to wealthy individuals for more than forty years. The Leprechaus club draws rich and mostly young socialites. Invitation only, snobbery and decadence."

"Miss Hornscraper, our superiors are convinced that agent Sulinar is not dead. Not yet, at least."

The half-elf believes that the supervisor is sincere...and that he was more annoyed at Weiler's comment than he allowed to be seen. It seems that he does not know the reasons behind your superiors' certainty concering Sulinar's fate either, though he might have a few suspicions.

Vall remains silent as his companions ask their questions, his gaze bouncing back and forth along the table as new questions and answers ricochet among these new players in the espionage game.

They are . . . an eclectic bunch, to say the least. Vall's initial impulse is to dismiss them as a hastily-assembled group of amateurs. But the questions they ask, the angles by which they tackle the problem set before them . . .

There is much I can learn from these 'amateurs', I believe. The masters were wise to send me.

He clears his throat quietly as a lull in the conversation emerges, so as to indicate that he wishes to speak without interrupting any worthy companions.

"Will we be provided with covers as well, my lord Voth?" he asks softly, staring almost blankly at his new supervisor, "Or would it be your preference that our arrival and departure from Stormhome simply go unremarked? And, if you'll pardon the presumption of a further question: If Agent Sulinar is compromised or incapacitated, is it within our mandate to clean up Warlord Rautos' network on his behalf, or is Agent Sulinar our primary and sole objective?"

The unasked question burns brightly in Vall's mind, locked inside by decades of Shadow Network training in professional courtesy and tact: Will you put me to my intended use? Will I be allowed to kill?

Weiller laughed at the idea that Voth thought he was questioning his experience. "Who's baitin' who, now? No need to get yer britches in a twist there. Just offerin' a lil' constructive criticism since this is a new sort o' venture fer yer bosses, unless ye think they got everythin' absolutely perfect their first time. None of us would be in this room if we all didn't see some way to benefit from each other. Only an idiot thinks he's the smartest person in the room," Weiller says with the same light chuckle, everything in the same jovial tone. Less than two minutes into this little meeting and Voth was already showing his hand like a bad card player after four strong drinks. He was proud. Patriotic. Stick up his arse. Got all hot and bothered from a single comment. Not the best sort to have to work under, but House orders were House orders, whether he was a general, bureaucrat, or noble. So many of these types felt the need to prove themselves superior to everyone else as soon as possible. Weiller, on the other hand, wanted everyone to be absolutely sure he was the least threatening guy in the room. People who didn't take you seriously would underestimate you.

"But none'a that's important right now. What's important is yer missin' agent. Only question I have left is are we providin' our own transportation to Aundair or did ye have other arrangements in mind?"

"I was actually just thinking he could be drunk as a skunk, but either way it'll be easy to find him unless he's not trying to be found," Larin replied. The others had smarter questions than she did, so she'd let them do the questioning. She should grab some maps before they left though so she could work out the best routes for an aerial search...

You yawn. You don't have time to ask questions. It's about time to get ready to go, you feel. It's all fun and games for a while, but there's immortality to seek.
Plus, asking a lot of questions is going to defeat the point of laying low. You don't want yourself to become a target.

You sit down, waiting for the answer to everyone.

Terranek Voth opens another case and offets to each of you an identification card and travelling papers. Ids bear an arcane mark from a dragonmarked heir of House Sivis, and forging a mark of Scribing is no small feat.

"You will travel by airship. Agent Nailo will be Doran Nael, wealthy land owner from Karrlakton, currently in negotiations with House Lyrandar. Agent Ovidiu will be Sorranim Sot, his magewright advisor. Agent Platina will play the role of a personal servant, agent Rawt that of Nael's finncil advisor while agents Hornscraper and Aldo will be the bodyguards.

Agent Platina is eager and ready, I see. Do you have any more questions? If not, you should prepare yourselves. You fly at dawn."

Ugh, air ships... she hated air ships. The rocking back and forth, the large engines, the close quarters, it also made her sick to her stomach. Her also consolation was that she could probably get away with just flying around it with Click most of the trip.

"Nothing worth yer time no," Larin replied. She did have plenty, but all of them would be answered by a good map of the area. She'd just go out and pick up a map or ten when she was getting a new saddle for Click.

Lucian struggles to keep the annoyance off his face after being assigned a "role", preferring to create his own identity that best suits the needs of his mission. Bodyguard? Are they kidding me? What a waste of my talents. I guess they felt the need to assign us roles, given this is our first mission for them, so I'll just have to make sure they know it's unneccessary in the future. At least they assigned me a role that should afford me plenty of time to myself.

Lucian's intention is to use the air voyage to design two personas and disguises, one for the bodyguard and another for his extracuricular activities. Ideally, not even the other party members will know about his "other" persona, as his goal is to freely move around and socialize without being hindered by the "role" he was given.

If no one has any other questions, Lucian will stand, and exit the room. He'll wind his way through the establishment looking for the archivist, where he'll make his request for the various profiles and maps that are relevant to his mission.

Cover IDs, eh? Weiller noted which of them received aliases and which ones didn't. He really didn't need an alias to fulfill his role in this little escapade.

Weiller takes the ID and travel papers, looking over the workmanship. Forging a Sivis seal was supposed to be damn near impossible. Either they had a member of the House on payroll or they had some truly legendary forgers on staff. If it was the latter, Sivis would be furious if they found out. Either way it was no skin off his nose. "No more questions from me." If no one else brings up anything, he'll get up an to leave, though he'll try to be the last one out or at least keep note of who stays behind. See if anyone wants to speak more privately with Voth.

"In case anyone's interested in joinin', I'm plannin' on gatherin' a few essentials and other supplies before we shove off." he offers, expecting at least some of the others to go off and do their own loner thing, or to dismiss him entirely.

"It would seem that we are all in readiness to depart. I will prepare myself for the journey tomorrow. Mister Weiller, if I may accompany you? I have some items to procure that will hopefully assist in our cover. Mister Ovidiu, I hope I might request the pleasure of your company as well?"

If there are no objections, Vall will go with Weiller, cash out a part of his letter, and go to buy nice clothes appropriate for a landowner.

Ovidiu briefly pondered over whether or not to speak. He tended to do this a lot, but he usually sorted it out rather quickly; When he should speak and when he shouldn't.
"...I'll prepare some spells for tomorrow. If you need a bit more convincing of a disguise, just ask."
It's important to be ready for disaster if it does strike. it's possible that someone doesn't match their cover ID. It might be good to prepare a few other spells, as well. While Ovidiu has never actually got into trouble a basic healing spell couldn't fix, if he does...
He shudders just thinking about it.

Lucian will thank Master Droranath for retrieving and providing the requested documents. Taking great care to show his appreciation to the grumpy Dwarf, Lucian quietly and covertly will slip him a gold piece for his services. Let's hope that's enough for him to remember me, and earn myself some good will. A friendly archivist could certainly come in handy in the future.

Pleased with himself, Lucian will slip the papers into his backpack and tie it closed before making his way out of the tavern and down to the nearest market. Hmm... who shall I be this time? Agelmar, the former soldier turned merchant. Jengo, the foolish distant nephew of the Duke. Oh, I know! Aron, the wealthy heir of a distant lesser noble family, blowing off some steam! I do so love Aron, such a dynamic individual. Now for the bodyguard? Admittedly, a fair less interesting character... how about Gerard, the dicing addict with bad luck and a fondness for the drink. Satisfied with his personas, Lucian walks through the market picking out a few garments for each disguise, selects a few trinkets and personal effects, and works through the various mannerisms that each will exhibit. Now... weapons... always the hardest and most expensive part. Aron can use my Rapier, but Gerard... he'll need something different. How about a shortsword? Yeah, that should work. Lucian proceeds to purchase the last of his disguise components, before heading to find top quality parchment and inks. Going to need some sigils and seals. I wish I had time to really make some amazing forgeries, but for now, barebones will have to do. Gerard is covered through Both, but Aron will need something at least passing to get himself admitted to the Leprechaun Club. Finding what he needs, Lucian will purchase the final materials before packing them all up and beginning the trek to the airdock.

Arriving at the dock, Lucian will show his boarding papers to the requisite authority figure and board the airship. Locating his personal quarters, Lucian will settle in for a long night of preparation. Beginning with the bodyguard persona, Lucian will match and fit the various wardrobes and trinkets, making sure that each feels genuine to the facade. Next, he'll scuff up the clothing enough to make it look worn and not freshly purchased. Satisfied with his persona, Lucian will move onto Aron. Aron will take up the majority of Lucian's time, as it is the more interesting and dynamic character. He will start with the clothing, going through the same process as he did for Gerard. Once the clothing is to his liking, Lucian will begin the process of forging the appropriate documents, including identification papers, sigils and seals, and fake letters of credit. When Lucian begins to feel a gnawing hunger in his belly, he will take a short break to find food, and if possible meet up with his new team members.

As part of the starting background equipment, a Charlatan has a realistic looking signet ring of a fake Duke (or similar setting appropriate noble). Lucian will be using this signet ring for Aron's sigil and identification.

She composes her clothing, buttoning all folds straight up and standing like an impeccable servant, hiding away her other belongings, speacially her strange book. The city of Rekkenmark

Boarding the "Flamebird"

Wrought from fine Aerenal Soarwood, bearing a huge flaming ring made of dark purple dragonshard, the Lyarandar Kraken on its flag, this airship of House Lyrandar had made its last stop at Rekkenmark before returning to Stormhome's docking towers.

You are politely received(although one young half-elf was caught starking at Clicky for a few seconds) by Lyrandar servants in their blue attires and led to your cabins-one for "Lord Nael", his advisor and his personal servant, the other for the rest of the group. While not extravagant, the furniture and decorations are of excellent quality.

"We hope you will enjoy your flight, ladies and gentlement. The weather may not be optimal, but the Mark of Storm will take care of that. Breakfast will be served at eight"

At 06:00 sharp, the Flamebird takes off!

Vall had expected the urge to withdraw into himself, perhaps practice his forms in his cabin or meditate. After all, a trip of nearly a day was the perfect time to prepare for the coming assignment, to meditate on the nature of mortality in Stormhome and the ways that his discipline might be tested in the subversions of this city. He ought to be approaching this job as a mason approaches his quarry: all function, prescribed form, and cold indifference to the needs of style.

But his companions are fascinating.

Talking with Larin and Weiller over their night shopping trip had been eye-opening in so many ways. Vall was no innocent to the ways of the world outside of the monastic schools of the Shadow Network, but this is the first time he has rubbed shoulders with other professionals. Instead of sober monasticism, Weiller Rawt was a rough raw snarl of a halfling who looked like he'd take your eyeballs as soon as look at you. And Larin! And CLICK! To ride a flying lizard into battle, of all things, and that story with House Cannith . . . whew! It had taken all of Vall's considerable training in demeanor not to burst into incredulous laughter at the whole story.

And so, as soon as they'd embarked and the Flamebird had taken off, Vall heads to the top deck in the hopes of running into some of the others in a circumstance less conducive to eavesdropping. He takes a stance along the side of the deck, clearing his mind and feeling the gale whip around him as he scans the deck for others of his party.

And deep within, he allows himself the luxury of the welling-up of adventurous joy.

Larin retched over the side of the balcony, wiping her mouth as Click sympathetically warbled beside her. "I hate airships," she managed out. "I hate the artificers that make the airships. I hate the gold the artificiers use to make the enchantments necessary to make the airships. I hate the magic that turns the gold into the necessary enchantments the artificers use to make the airships. I hate everything that isn't grass, a dinosaur, or... you know those really fruity drinks you find in some bars? I like those..."

Managing to pull herself off of the side, Larin goes back over to the table and picks up her catrography tools. She was determined to get everyone a map with the best search patrol routes possible and all the key locations that had been mentioned marked on them. But that was proving difficult when she was dealing with sky sickness.

Lucian nods his head approvingly at the clothing. Very nice indeed. Yes, I did think that the roles assigned weren't the best particular fit for each of our skills and affinities, but perhaps that's the plan? Test us in uncomfortable roles, perhaps gauge our willingness to improvise?. Lucian will casually look around, checking for eavesdroppers. When he's satisfied that no one is close, he will lean in and quietly say, I'll be assuming the persona of 'Agelmar', a role I've played a time or two, my preparations are nearly complete. In the morning I will assume the role and leave the Half-Elf you see before you behind for the duration of the trip.. Leaning back and smiling Lucian looks out into the open air. It's odd. One who flies so often would be reacting so poorly to this transport. I would think that the airship is a smoother ride than sitting atop the whims of a Sentient Beast? Or it's all part of his misdirections... She'll need to be watched.. Smiling and shrugging Lucian will continue, I hope his stomach settles by the time we land, there's much to accomplish once we land. turning back to Vall, So tell me, what was the impetus for our style of employment?

Lucian is intentionally being somewhat vague, avoiding words like: disguise, agents, mission, etc. His intention is to make the conversation clear while avoiding buzz words, in case someone tries to listen. As he becomes more familiar with each of the others the level of vagueness will increase (as it's assumed they will naturally come up with some internal code themselves over time).

Also, Lucian is purposefully calling Vall by his role name, in order to stress the importance of staying in character, even when you think you're alone.

Vall nods approvingly as Lucian lays out his methods. So, this one is more of a people person! Good. Vall has some modest skill at deceptive interaction, but he's glad to have a professional in matters of disguise on board. Perhaps he'll learn a thing or two along the way!

"I'll be sure to address you as such, then. As to the impetus of our employment . . ." Vall considers for a moment, eyes flashing across the deck to take in any potential listeners, "If you ask for the motives of our patrons, I would say that their desire is that of one fresh-knighted, anxious to prove his worth before the eyes of the world. The eyes of nations are on them, after the war, and they wish to make a strong showing as a new-minted power."

Semi-consciously, Vall shifts to a ready stance, balancing on the balls of his feet.

"As for myself, I am a welcome beneficiary of chance. I have had the privilege of being shaped by peerless teachers, and the finest way I can think to honor them is to apply their lessons with my every word and deed. Lucian nods as Vall discuses their shared patron. 'Peerless Teachers'. That's a humble statement. An individual that recognizes he has peers as well as those above him. He's clearly not a member of the clergy or of a noble birth. Lucian chuckles a little inside at his own joke. Seems like a good man, perhaps a bit naive, but a good man non-the-less. I'm afraid my story is not particualtly interesting. I grew up poor, joined the military young, learned a thing or two about sticking other people with pointy objects, and then had nothing to do once the war ended. Apparently I served well enough that people thought I shouldn't be left out to flounder around the countryside, so here I am. Lucian will look around, I don't know about you, but I'm getting hungry. Your co-passengers look all wealthy and possibly influential, including a Deneith Sentinel Marshal in official attire, a young Aundairian Baroness with her entourage, two dwarves with immaculate clothes and grooming, a middle-aged hobgoblin in battle armor and a blade with multiple gems embedded in it and an elven man in a green robe seemingly woven from an unknown plant's gleaming leaves. The Baroness is a petite human Brunette with fine features and a slightly jaded expression on her prettty face, probably carefully practiced in front of her mirror. She bears eight silver rings, although none of them seems to be an engagement one. She's in her late teens to early twenties. Two young men, evidently brothers, dressed in turquoise seem to take care of her every needs, although the scar-faced woman standing three steps behind the Baroness, looking around the room, with her left hand close to her rapier, seems to be of greater concern.

She seems to wind back blinking several times, she looks around for the source of the sound and finds nothing, her arms shake for a bit and instinctively reach for something in her backpack, touching it seems to calm her down a bit. Seeming alarmed or a bit scared, she sits down and opens a heavy book from her backpack over a table, randomly opening it on any page, bringing her hands to the sides of her head, staring closely for some moments.

She looks over to Ovidiu as if finally noticing his presence once again and tries not to look troubled, trying a friendly smile, then turns back to the book, asking in a soft and much lower tone than before, but her voice clearly shakes... "Every- thing s-seems to be in order."

Speaking quietly, so as not to be overheard, So tell me, what are you thinking when we arrive at our location? Have you thought about where you will start your search?

Bunch of fancy guests here. Larin decided that she'd be better served being a distraction from the rest of the party more than mingling with the other guests. The fact that this meant all she had to do was sit down and eat her weight in meat was purely coincidental.

Feeding some scraps to Click, who was faithfully sitting beside her, Larin stepped in. "I've prepped some search routes and stuff, but it seems like we should just head right ta the Leprechaun ta start," she shrugged. "...what is a leprechaun anyway?"

Platina (@ Private Cabin)

The warforged is taken aback by something, standing straight and looking aimlessly at the wall for some moments, completely still.

"..."
Not only does Ovidiu not have any idea why she was looking in here in the first place, she's also starting to creep him out a little. Even if she looks alarmed, on the surface, she has no reason to be. It's suspicious.
He stares at the Warforged. He honestly doesn't know why, but if he had to pin down anyone as being a mole, it's her. Best to avoid her. They say you can't judge a book by it's cover, but that had served him well more often than not.
He retracts his gaze, and leaves the cabin.
Maybe it'd be better to just wait for the airship to stop.

Vall, in the dining room

Vall bites into the fruit, and fakes a smile to avoid reacting to how unexpectedly sour it was. He speaks in a low tone of voice, so as to be subtle without drawing attention to his whispering.

"I . . . ah, I would follow Miss Hornscraper's lead in that regard. However, such places are dens of high grace and deception, with which I have less skill than I would like. Perhaps it would be best if we began at the Leprechaun for purposes of general clues, but then cornered our missing agent's potential targets in their homes for a more comprehensive interrogation.

"I should also mention that the Sorceress d'Lyrandar has been targeted by House Phiarlan, according to our file. Though House Phiarlan is . . . lesser than mine, I am duty-bound not to violently interfere with their operations unless I best them in a game of skill or chance. I say this to warn you, my companions, of any complications that may arise."

[Lucian: Dinning Room sitting with Vall and Larin]

As Larin sits, Lucian will nod his head in welcome. He then listens to her response. I believe a leprechaun is a creature from children's stories... The good fun stories. I could be mistaken though. I hesitate to attempt to barge into the Club, they are thought to be a selective group who likely require an invitation. Simply attempting to gain access to their club could very well be seen as presumptious, or even worse suspicious. I think it's best to inspect the estates that was last used by our missing friend, in the meantime, locate a member that our noble friend here can cozy up to and hopefully use as a sponsor I to the club.. Lucian will indicate Vall as he speaks. I plan on loosing a few coins to some of the other bodyguards in various games of chance. Hopefully the comraderie will result in some loose lips that reveal worthwhile information about their masters.. Turning to Vall, Lucian will listen with interest as the sorcereress is discussed. I'm afraid I'm not following. She has been 'targetted' but you can't interfere? What exactly does 'targetted' imply? As Lucian listens he will take a few large bites from his plate, and he'll steal a glance at the Baroness... his soon to be target.

"So basically you're both saying that these are black tie events that are tough ta get inta, so ta speak," Larin noted unammused. "I don't see why it's got ta be such an issue. We're doing a search for a missing person, not trying ta assinate someone. Either way if it's black tie I ain't going ta be able to pass. Might as well just circle around the outside with Click ta make sure nothings amiss," she noted with a shrug.

Vall, in the dining hall

Vall inclines his head, a look of polite nonplussedness resting on his face as Lucian shared his thoughts on the club. After a moment, the full meaning dawned on him.

"Ahhhh, I apologize for the misunderstanding, sir!" he exclaims softly, a polite smile returning instantly, "I am new to such games as these. When I said we had best begin our investigations at the club, I did not intend for the respected members to have any knowledge of our being there. A bit of "second-story work", to use the vernacular, was more to my intent. It is as one of my teachers once said: 'The truth fears listening ears, so hide yours if you wish to catch it!'."

This final quotation was delivered with the smallest suggestion of a growl, a weak echo of Master Hollow's crusty braying.

Entering a mark's house through the FRONT door? With the consent of the house's occupants? Well, I suppose one must be willing to try new things . . .

He continues, banishing these novel thoughts for the moment.

"I assure you, sir, that 'targeted' implies exactly what you would think it to mean. One does not engage House Phiarlan for a stern words or surprise birthday parties (unless the buyer wishes that birthday to be their last). As to why I may be unable to interfere . . ."

He pauses a moment, reflecting on his many lessons in tact before proceeding carefully.

"My House sprang from the esteemed House Phiarlan as a daughter might spring from her mother, and, like a dutiful daughter, we have taken up our mother's trade with all of the energy, industry, and ability at our disposal. Indeed, it could be said that we have reached the peak of our trade while our mother is quietly diminishing with age. Now, an ungrateful daughter might run her mother out of business, stealing clients and growing her own business by virtue of her greater alacrity and prowess. However, House Thuranni is dutiful: we respect our mother's ancient skill, even as her hands grow weak and her sight grows dim. Thus, we allow our mother her work and respect her as a fellow professional. If we are placed in competition for a single job, we settle the matter graciously and without malice."

He pauses a moment to not-grimace his way through another bite of fruit, and then continues:

"Thus, if a professional of House Phiarlan were to make their presence known to me, I should for courtesy's sake propose a game of skill or chance to peacefully decide whether they or I should have the privilege of completing our shared job. I hope my answer, however long-winded, was satisfactory."

He takes another bite. The fruit's taste is growing on him . . .

[Before the Airship] (Shopping)

Weiller Rawt does his best to find whatever supplies he can think of for the journey and the job ahead. "See, there are a few tricks to gettin' a good deal. First, ye need to shop around. And there's safety in numbers. Shopkeeps are predators. They prey on weak stragglers like raptors on a sick old antelope." He travels from shop to shop like the world's shadiest antiquer, chatting up the shopkeeps whenever possible and doing basic haggling here and there. "Ye also got to know where to look. The savviest businessmen prefer a bit o' shade if ye catch my drift." Weiller says with a sly wink.

((I'll try to use my background ability to find less legitimate sources if it'll get me a better deal or otherwise unavailable items. I can also use my Bardic Inspiration ability to make it easier for one of my companions to get a better deal as well. Apologies if I miscalculate some of the following rolls.))

Perception check to find the best shops to buy from: [roll0]
Insight check to size up the shopkeepers and maybe determine the best approach to handling them: [roll1]
Persuasion check to talk down some of the prices and get access to some rarer stocks: [roll2]
Intimidate check not to actually threaten anyone, but to threaten that I'll take my business elsewhere or to call the authorities on these exorbitant prices, where applicable: [roll3]

Later, on the Airship...

Weiller spends his spare time schmoozing with the other passengers and even some of the ship's crew when applicable. He'll share drinks, swap stories, make some recommendations for the next time they make port (all House Ghallanda approved of course), and gathering any information or contacts for their destination.

After a long night of getting acquainted with the ship and her crew, Weiller arrives late to breakfast, another opportunity to observe the other passengers, as well as reunite with the rest of his team if necessary.

[Lucian: Airship Dinning Room, with Larin and Vall]

Larin's response concerns Lucian, but he tries not to let it show. Fly around outside? I don't think 'black tie' is the right term. 'Selective' is the better term. These societies are elitists, they only admit their friends and people of like mind. Second Story entry is certainly an option, and I won't attempt to dissuade you from what you feel is your best method of entry, but I hasten to mention that your plan relies on one major assumption... that our lost friend is actually in the building. You're ability to interact and garner information will be limited, and if our friend is being detained by the Club, a big if mind you, and it's not at the specific location you investigate, then you may have risked being discovered for naught. Still, there's a possibility it will work, and thus I won't try and change your methods, although our noble friend here, Lucian motions to Vall, should probably not be part of that incursion. When push comes to shove, he's supposedly got the credentials to get into the club, he just needs the invite. Catching him sneaking around would likely ban him from a shot at admittance. Lucian shrugs, as if there's a lot of factors to consider and he doesn't have all the answers just a lot of thoughts to be considered.

Lucian smiles, amused and impressed by the apt and witty metaphor that Vall delivers. He didn't explain why he can't kill someone that his own House put a Hit on, but no sense pressing the issue. Well I am impressed with your eloquence on the matter, keep all your answers that long winded and verbose and you'll fit into high society extremely well. Lucian genuinely chuckles with no hint of sarcasm in his voice. So for now, we'll just have you leave the investigation of the Sorceress to the rest of us.

[As Weiller walks in]

Oy.. this guy. Let's hope he's gotten into character and won't be riling up any of the passengers, we need to travel mostly incognito so no one thinks about us too much after we've gone. Lucian will motion towards Weiller, attempting to get his attention. Once he catches his eye, he will motion to the seat at their table. Waiting for the fourth member of their team to sit, Lucian will take the opportunity to take a few bites of food. Airship food... for the price of the tickets you'd think they would offer greater quality. Still, the food wasn't bad, especially some of the more exotic foods and drinks that he otherwise wouldn't get to experience.

Vall chuckles almost self-consciously.

"I am not sure I would name that a compliment, Mister Al-ahem, Aglemar, but it is appreciated all the same."

He takes a final bite of his fruit and begins rolling the pit between his fingers.

"A shame, I suppose. I would dearly love to face a sorcerer. I have heard that they are only half-mortal and have spells dancing in their blood. Good morning, Mister Rawt!" he interrupts himself, "I trust you slept well?"

Weiller sits down with the others and pours himself a tall mug of coffee. Far too tall it seems for a halfling his size. "Sleep? There's work to be done, mates! Friendships to make! Alliances to forge! Investments to invest!" he says with a grin. Regardless, if Lucian was looking for it, Weiller didn't seem like he was trying for an alternate personality. Or was he? His accent's a little toned down, and there's no reason anyone would assume he was working as anything but a financial advisor, nor any reason to assume Weiller Rawt of House Ghallanda wouldn't work temporarily as a financial advisor to some bigwig noble. He takes a good, long, gulp of the hot beverage before immediately refilling it. "There'll be plenty of time for sleep later. Anything interesting happen to you in the meanwhile?"

"I dunno how useful that'd be," Larin admitted. "I doubt anyone here as anything ta do with our mark. So not much use in rubbing elbows and the like I'd say."

Their conversation had gotten the wheels turning in her head however. "Unless one of them is one of these 'honory members' we've been talking about," she ammended. "That'd actually be real useful. [Lucian: Airship Dinning Room, with Vall, Rawt, and Larin]

To Weiller, I've mostly been stuck in preperations for the task at hand, fortunately, that means nothing interesting has happened. Lucian will take a few final bites from his plate while Larin replies to Vall, nodding in agreement. I prefer to travel as inconspicuously as possible. Though I do think there can sometimes be opportunities which we need to be conscious of. Lucian will finish his plate of food and glance over at the Baroness, Now is as good a time as any. If you guys will excuse me for a little bit, I need to take care of a few things. Lucian will stand up, and walk out of the dinning room, returning to the room where he left his disguises. He will take a little bit of time getting into the persona of "Aron", the young and handsome heir to a small fortune traveling to Aundair for a mini vacation. Once he's ready he will return to the dinning room where he will casually make his way around the room, waiting for an opportunity to begin a conversation with the young Baroness.

I have pictures of what Lucian, Aron, and Agelmar would ideally look like (assuming a perfect disguise roll).. I'll post the pics when I get home.

Basically, Lucian is trying his best to put on a new persona and attract the attention of the Baroness. Hopefully, he'll be able to get some basic information out of her before they land. He's also counting on the disguise to keep his companions from recognizing him as well, as this will be his escape persona should his companions blow up the mission and he needs to flee Aundair or disappear without a trace. Lucian fully plans on splitting time while in Aundair as both Agelmar and Aron, working both personas to get as much information as he can. Aron's goal is to inject himself into Aundair high society, while Agelmar's goal is to learn what rumors are available for purchase in amongst the servant ranks.

There's too much noise and chatter for even Vall to make sense. Talk about fashion , bad taste jokes on the expense of Eldeen druids(so rustic), some gossip, it's hard to distinguish useful information among all that. Seconds later, he realises that he and his companion have been noticed by the bored armored hobgoblin who grins and joins you. This man is athletic and in good fighting condition-other than hair loss, age has done little to diminish the veteran's prowess.

" Now you look like a fine warrior, elf, and so do your little ones, which in my book marks you as an improvement already...Do you mind if I join you? " he says in a low but confident voice. "I'm Guudan Ras, shava to clan leader Durrenic, representing the Lun'gar clan of Darguun. My Deneith companion is a man of land and preferred not to join me for this meal." he comments with a chuckle.

Darguun is a nation that broke off from Cyre during the Last War, when goblin mercenaries shocked the worlds as they rebelled against their employers and took their ancient lands back, creating a strong nation thousands of year after the fall of their ancient empire of Dhakaan. It is ruled by Lesh (High Warlord of the Scarlet Blade) Haruuc, leader of the original uprising and uniter of many clans. The charismatic leader has proclaimed no heir though, and Darguun's political climate is certainly turbulent.

The goblinoids are often looked upon by "civilised" Khorvaire(a pretty ironic sentiment, since the ancient Dhakkani Empire dominated the continent thousands of years before the first cities of humans and dwarves appeared on Eberron) and their agressiveness and practice of slavery do not help matters at all. Lesh Haruuc's policies concentrate on stabilising and modernising Darguun while building foreign respect and trade relations (although Darguun's strong disciplined warriors remain its primary export goods).

[Lucian as Aron: In the Dinning room - Attempting to seduce the Baroness]

At first, Lucian will pretend not to notice the Baroness turn around, seemingly focused on his food options. Lucian will reach out and pick up a plate off the buffet of something that the Baroness is also eating. He'll inspect the food and rotate the plate around looking unsure. Lucian will then look up and casually around the room. When he "notices" that the baroness is eating this same dish, he will smile and ask, Excuse me Miss, I see you tried this, indicating the plate he's holding. It looks a little suspicious to my tastes, was it worth eating? Lucian will lock eyes with her and flash her his most charming smile. In a nonthreatening and casual manner he will take a couple steps towards her, making it look like he's just trying to get close enough to her so she can answer without needing to raise her voice.

Lucian will smile, Well I will have to try it then. Thank you. He'll hesitate a moment, as if he's just noticing her beauty for the first time. After a second he gives himself a little shake and extends his hand, My name's Aron. Lucian will smile and await her response, which hopefully includes her name.

Lucian gives a knowing nod, like he isn't surprised a he places the plate back down. He will look back to the baroness and smile, Thank you so much for sparing my palette, never can be too careful with airship food. He'll hesitate a moment, as if he's caught up in her eyes before giving himself a little shake and extending his hand, My name's Aron, Im on my way to Stormhome, mostly on business, but hopefully there will be some time for pleasure as well. Lucian smiles and awaits her response to see if she gives him a name and reason for her travels.

Lucian's response will depend on her response.

Vall, in the dining room

Vall stands up and bows lightly, as Shadow Network courtesy dictates is protocol to one of political office.

"Your presence is more than welcome, Guudan Ras, shava of the Lun'gar clan," he smiles, resuming his seat and indicating one for the hobgoblin, "My name is Doran Nael, and this gentleman is my financial advisor, Mister Rawt."

Deception: [roll0]

He avoids introducing Larin, as she is meant to be his bodyguard and therefore a kind of servant unfit to be introduced to the mighty.

"Would that I could claim the title of warrior! Though there's none at this table unaccustomed to a blade wielded roughly, I fear I've had no exposure to a pitched battle. To call myself a warrior, in YOUR presence, would be to call barley water a fine brew in the presence of a master brewer. If you'll pardon my officiousness, what brings such a one as yourself to Stormhome?"

The Baroness smiles a dazzling smile at Aron.

"It's satisfactory. And it is "my Lady" actually. I am Baroness Janeen ir' Melance. You're charmed, I'm sure, And you are...?

Her tone is in equal parts challenging and flirty. She offers a dainty hand to Aron's lips. Four identical siver rings flash in the daylight.

Working for Grievus and the Crown has gifted Lucian with all kinds of tidbits. Eight plain metallic rings aroud the fingers of an influential woman can be a coincidence...but he is also reminded of a certain society of rich individuals. The Aurum are supposed to be an association of wealthy lovers of history and nothing more, but Grievus couldn't fail to notice that intelligence agencies across Khorvaire are very nervous of an organisation of influential men and women bound not by national or religious ties but by those of coin and mutual profit. Certain sinister rumours have surfaced but little actul proof.

He sips some tea and continues. " You're courteous, I'll give you that, even f youdo not know what a sava is. This is a business voyage-Aundairian lords eager to hire the services of more Lun' gar warriors. With House Deneith as the broker, of course. And you three? What is your purpose?"

Vall pauses for a moment, and then, on an impulse, widens his smile in just such a way as to imply recognition.

"If I were a sheep, sir, it would be in my interest to hint at being a wolf in disguise. And if I WERE a wolf in sheep's clothing, well, I'd certainly bleat before growling. All I will say is, whether sheep or wolf, to be compared to the Silent Knives is a fine compliment, and one that I thank you for."

He nods as the hobgoblin explains his purpose.

"Pray excuse my lack of knowledge, then! I fear my schooling has left me woefully ignorant in many vital places. But I applaud the purpose of your voyage! Aundair has no shortage of stubborn lords willing to back their words with hired steel. But do you have a buyer already? Or does House Deneith recognize quality and buy it up on assurance that your soldiers will find a willing employer in the goodness of time? Our own voyage is on business as well, I fear: a negotiation in which the name d'Lyrandar appears most prominently. Initial negotiations did not go as was hoped, so myself and my advisors have been sent down to set things aright. I suspect it will be a bloodbath, metaphorically speaking . . ."

And possibly in the literal sense, if fortune is kind.

Lucian will take her hand in his, raise it to his lips for a kiss across its back,Well if I wasn't charmed before, I certainly am now. My Lady, Lucian says her title with a small knowing smirk. Not immediately letting her hand go, he holds it long enough to casually view her rings. While still holding her hand Lucian will quietly recite an "ancient" [I]short story about a man falling hopelessly in love with the most beautiful woman he'd just met. When he's done reciting the story he will release her hand, with a coy smile Lucian will speak in Common, I believe I may have just discovered how he felt all those years ago. Lucian will stand up straight to his full height, as he speaks he attempts to portray a touch of pride mixed with a touch of sadness, Please call me Aron, eldest son along one branch of what remains of the shattered ir'Sien family. Once a family bestowed with titles and prestige, now a family just trying to find it's new place after the disaster of the Day of Mourning. Leaning in close to the baroness he will give her his best knowing smile and speak softly, But please don't forget the name My Lady, like so many others already have. I've vowed to return it to its former glory. He'll shoot her a wink before standing up straight again, still speaking a bit soft so his voice doesn't carry, And on that day, I hope you'll dance the Tago with me in celebration, My Lady. Lucian gives a slight bow of the head.

If Lucian doesn't know a real story that fits the parameters, then he'll make one up. He will do his best to use real places and people when possible, in an attempt to portray a strong knowledge of history.

Please note that anytime Lucian pronounces Cyre as Aron, he pronounces it as "Kai-Ree" (the traditional pronunciation of Cyre by its locals). In other personas he may pronounce it differently though.

Tago is a traditional Cyre dance taught to all children of the nation at a young age.

In general, Lucian is attempting to appear confident, perhaps a touch on the cocky side, but he's also a deeper character filled with sadness about his family's current status, mixed with an overriding desire to be the one to make it right. He wants the Baroness to see a man of confidence, commitment, loyalty, and perhaps even rashness who's willing to fight for what he wants.

Money was money after all. But maybe she could have snuck a few bottles of ale on board to pass the time?

Well if everyone else was busy talking, she might as well do something productive. With everyone in this room here, there shouldn't be anyone in their respective private quarters. Larin doubted any of these people had anything to do with their mission, but when life hands you bittergrass you make a salve.

"You stay here Click," Larin requests of her pet as she gets to her feet. Click tended to be so distracting people often didn't notice that she was gone as long as Click was still there. Click just warbled absently as he continued to chow down on the buffet.

Well there were no guards. She could probably sneak into any of these rooms fairly easily. Wait, dragonhawks? That seemed suspicious. She should definitely check that out. And not just use it as an excuse to take flight for a few minutes. At all.

Heading back to the dining room to retrieve Click, Larrin brought her animal companion to the deck and prepared for flight. Frowning in concentration as she attempted to remember anything she might know about the creatures.

This large bird has no actual dragonblood in its history. The dragonhawk is large enough to ride mounted, and frequently is. Its head had a sharpened beak, with a crest of pointed feathers. Its wingspan is huge, with feathers in varying colors of browns and whites.

Wild dragonhawks are common in Aundair and the Eldeen Reaches they are almost unheard of at the Scions Sound area, above whose waters you are currently lying.

Wild dragonhawks were uncommon in this area. That meant these were probably messengers of some kind or another. It was probably just a coincidence, but everyone else was being all cautious and gathering all the information they could. She should check it out just to be safe.

Mounting the mighty Clicker, Larin strapped in tight and took the best to the air. Thankfully Click was a little faster than an airship, so she wouldn't be left behind. That said, she wasn't sure if he was faster than a dragonhawk. She'd need to push him hard to catch up to them enough she could look them over better. Or better yet cast a spell to speak to them.

Lucian will extend his hand to help her to her feet, and extend his arm to properly escourt her (if she doesn't accept them, he won't press the issue). He'll smile and nod to the bodyguard, in a sign of respect and acceptance of her position. As they walk, Lucian will make sure to hold every door and allow her first entrance through each. Lucian will walk without saying anything until they are well outside the dinning room and down the hall. When he finally speaks, he will try to redirect the conversation away from himself and towards the Baroness. So My Lady, if I may ask, what's the purpose of your travels to the island city? Business? Pleasure A combination of the two? I hear they have amazing libraries covering wide arrays of topics that someone interested in history would find most satisfying.

Vall chuckles lightly at this, before shooting Larin an askance look as she wanders off.

"An oddity, perhaps, but efficacy permits eccentricity, wouldn't you say?" he asks lightly, leaning back to a position bespeaking greater ease. His eyes wander over to Lucian and Palatina's situations, trying to understand what all is going on. Yes, there is something to be said for having a team to back you up, but all of these moving parts are FAR more complicated than the actions of a lone agent. Vall feels himself tensing up slightly, and stills it.

"And what of our travel-mates?" he asks, shifting the focus to the room at large, "We hardly seem to be short on oddities, no?"

The warforged is taken aback for a moment, flashing through her book in her mind, flipping pages and checking information about that creature, but shifts back to a "normal" look almost instantly, she smiles and courteously bows her head towards the eladrin and smiles in a friendly manner.

She then approaches the eladrin in an innocent way, with a smile on her face and bows down again, "Excuse me, master... One would expect all sorts of travelers from far away places in a journey like this, but not as far as yours...", she continues smiling to dismiss any thought of prejudice in her tone and continues, "Oh, don't misjudge my words, master... It is both most pleasant, interesting and an honor to share this trip with one such as you.", as she bows down again, "But pardon me, master... May I have the pleasure of knowing your name?".

The dragonhawks swiftly react to Larin and Clicky's approach and adopt a wide formation which could easily grant a flanking position, if engagement actually takes place, while moving away from the airship, drawing the flier away from his support. This was a common response in the Last War among the Knights Arcane of Aundair or the Wyvern riders of Thrane...but makes no sense for beasts acting on their own.

As they walk, Lucian nods at the Baronesse's characterization of Stormhome. When she cunningly brings it back to him, he smiles, She's not one to be easily distracted. Lucian will walk in silence for a minute, deciding how best to approach the conversation. Lucian notices and makes a mental note about the fliers, deciding it's best to use them as a sudden distraction should he find himself in need of a quick distraction with the Baronesse. When he's ready to speak he puts on a look of determination and consideration. The story of my family's wealth and influence is long and only partially germane, so I'll spare you the nitty gritty details and and keep it short. The majority of our influence was actually in our lending activities, many up and coming merchants and guildsman would seek our assistence, and many nobles who's coffers were running dry and in need of a financial life-line were in the debt of my family. Our influence and power was secured by the liens we held against more than a few powerful nobles across all Five Nations. The Day of Mourning was disasterous for our House and Family, not so much due to the loss of materials and life, but the sudden inability to collect on the liens we held. It appears, that in the wake of the destruction many of our debtors decided to reneg on payments and turn our collectors away. The House was in shambles, our patriarch dead, and our leverage.. and by leverage I mean both secrets and letters of lien.. were presumed destroyed or lost. We used the majority of our Letters of Credit that we could still monetized to rebuild, but with our collectors turned away from our biggest debtors, our resources were limited. Lucian wil stop his walking and lean on the railing, looking out into the horizon, quiet for a few minutes. So the natural question is "What am I doing in Stormhome?", and the answer is simple. This is where some of our largest debtors are at the moment. But none of that answers your question. The answer to you question is much more complicated, but let me say this... the secrets and leverage that many of the debtors to my family thought were lost, after many years of searching, didn't stay lost. Now, I'm here to make sure they know it.. and I would imagine they won't be happy to see me. Lucian will look at the Baroness with eyes that look haunted yet determined, Everything starts with my infiltration of the Leprechaun Club. From there, I will have access to the individuals that I need to speak to. Lucian smiles to the Baronesse. I believe I've already said more than I should have, so anything more that you want to know will require you to hang around and witness for yourself.

"...If you so desire, I could cast a spell right now." Ovidiu rested at the table, eating. That's not what they were here for, but they were in no rush. It's not like Ovidiu ever flinched at anything; At least, not after those short few years spent searching into his soul and unlocking the secrets of the universe. Helpful, when the monastery you're a part of goes through human sacrifice daily.
He stares at the birds. Surely he had some spell that could deal with the things. Disguise Self, Alter Self, Charm Person, Sleep, Darkness... Nope. Quite frankly, he was expecting a bit more "espionage", not "monster routing".
But, yes, "cantrips". Ray of Frost may help.
..But that's all he had.
He sighed. He wasn't going to be of much help when he prepared for a straightforward rescue mission.
It was in his best interest to wait for the monsters to attack and the others to respond. Seemed like it'd be safer than going all out.

Vall, in the dining hall.

Vall finds himself rising to his feet. His hand drifts towards the shortsword and he silently curses the conventions of fashion that don't allow a rich man to carry a handaxe.

"I pray your pardon, sir, but the warforged is part of my retinue," he says to the hobgoblin, his serene tone belying the tingle of adrenaline that surges into him, "and if she is threatened, then I must . . ."

And there was the sticking point.

I will not kill anyone whom does not need to die, and I will not fight anyone whom I do not need to kill. If I fight, it is to the death. If I do not fight to the death, then I do not fight at all.

Even undercover, his Shadow Network discipline is binding.

". . . defend her. SIR!" he calls over to the elf, voice raised but with no bite of anger, "The lady addresses you with nothing but courtesy, and you respond with accusations and enmity? These actions are ungracious and do not befit one of your noble stature. I urge you to apologize, or to lay out your grievance in civil tones, lest your actions convey a false impression of your quality."

Vall seeks to diffuse. Only to diffuse. For if he does not, then the elf will attack his fellow agent. Vall has had few companions before, but he knows that companions defend one another. And if Vall seeks to defend his companion, then there are few ways at his disposal that do not end in a fight to the death.

The city of Stormhome

The rest of the voyage was rather uneventful, featuring pleasant chatter and good food. You are now at the marvelous airship docking towers of Stormhome.

The entire city is under your feet-the grandiose enclave of House Lyrandar, impressive mansions, Ghallanda establishments and more modest residences, the temples, the lantern lights maintained by the magewrights, the open squares with their monuments and rows of docked ships, both elemental-powered and plain. The air is pleasantly warm and invigorating. No cloud is there to deprive the denizens the viewing of starlight, the six visible moons and the always magnificent Ring of Syberis. Flags and banners of the crest of Lyrandar, the Kraken, are a very common sight, even dwarfing the presence of Aundairian symbols. After all, it is a common secret that the bearers of the mark of Storm own Sortmhome in all but name, avoiding the breaching of the edicts of Korth by a mere technicality.

Like all missions though, Lucian knew where to start... at the beginning, and the beginning for him was finding their contact person. At night though the odds of him being tucked away inside somewhere were much higher, and she couldn't see anything anyway. Well they needed to check out The Leprechaun anyway. The aerial search could wait until tomorrow.

Still this city was pretty damn impressive! It made her fingers itch with a need to map it out from above. The problem with mapping cities though is that if you wanted it to be accurate you also had to check it out from street level to know what all the buildings were. It was a pain, but with one this beautiful she didn't think she'd mind all that much.

Lucian keeps to his persona, never faltering. As the others drop their disguises in Raena's office, Lucian is horrified and rather dissappointed, but is forced to remember that his companions were likely brought into the agency for skills other than infultration and impersonation. He's appeased when Raena reccommends that they stay in characters, alleviating the need for him to address it himself. Rather abruptly and without much transition Lucian asks, Was Saenna ir' Thoran, amongst his other liasons?

So the leading theory was their mark had dipped his pen in the company ink, and that lead to his disappearance. Or dipped it into another company's ink in secret she supposed. But the ink had been trapped, resulting in... ewwww, that train of thought had gotten disturbing pretty quickly.

"Do we have a place he was last seen?" Larin interjected. "Trails probably far too old ta follow, but it's a good start. We've got places he liked ta go, people he liked ta see, but I don't think we got a confirmation of the last witness to outright see him and where it was." Of course that information was pretty hard to track down when you were being discrete...

She opens a flask, drinks some water and continues.

Now, I do not know who was the last person he saw...but he often spoke to Seeker Loran, who maintains a shrine near Meravash Square, and Captain Itharra d'Lyrandar of the "Glidewing"...not that her brigantine looks much like your beast" she says with a brief smile.

Halflings do not usually use our scientific names when it comes to dinosaurs. Thus, a Glidewing is a Pteranodon. More on that matter here (http://eberron.wikia.com/wiki/Dinosaur).

So basically he's just a playboy looking to have a good time, sadly that's not going to be helpful in determining the reasons he was speaking to all of these people. Looks like there's a lot of leg work to be done, at least one of the names on the Baronesse's list is appearing on Sulinar's list as well, killing two birds with one stone is good, although the coincidence shouldn't be overlooked. Lucian nods in appreciation of Raena's answer, We're hearing a lot about his female conquests, I beleive all but one of his mentioned acquaintences are female? What about the men of Stormhome? During his activities, was there ever any altercations with crossed lovers? Perhaps a husband may have discovered his wife's affairs? Maybe a jealous rival tired of fighting for courtship of one of the young maidens? We have also heard that he's though to stil be alive, but given little reason for that assumption. Is there any color you can provide on that assumption?

Vall's head is reeling. Within the space of a mere minute, he has discovered so much more about the licentious nature of the world than he had been prepared to know.

Still, he mostly shakes it off. Professional. PROFESSIONAL.

"If I may add a query, were all of his . . . conquests . . . thought to be agents for Warlord Rautos? Or did he perhaps have other motives for his libertine behavior? I hope we are not bombarding you with questions," he finishes, managing to mostly repress any hint of shocked sensibilities.

Vall, while still somewhat embarrassed, is feeling less out of his depth. If Sulinar's mission was ostensibly complete, then their full focus could be on regaining the missing agent. This simplifies things immensely.

"I believe Mr. Aldo is quite correct," he agrees, "I propose we seek out the Pelican for lodging. Once that is done, we can begin making inquiries of Sulinar's, er, liaisons. Perhaps one of them caused his disappearance. Madam, your help is greatly appreciated. Good evening to you."

Meeting his companions after breakfast, he nods with an air he hopes approximates "haughty".

But clearly Platina and Larin will have none of it.

The Eladrin's face takes an expression of fury and indignation when Platina approaches him but it soon becomes a mixture of curiosity, suspicion and....is that just a hint of amusement? Seems that the warforged defused a little of the tension.

"You bear this body. You bear this book. And you know nothing? Oh, by the Thousand Leaves this is too rich. I don't even..." His emerald eyes flash. Intriguement? Mockery? Enjoyment? Dark mirth? Not here, of course...the Laranan Grove, by starlight. I will be there for some time. Call me by the name that most mortals use for me-Ilthreas Meran of the Sixth Crimson Thorn."

Hey, Gorrik" he asks the barman "wasn't there an elf who booked a room and almost never got out?" The barman opens his mouth but no sound escapes. During the half hour they are kept waiting, Vall largely fiddles with his drink, accepting none of the proffered refreshment. He tries to shoot Ovidiu a few play-along-I-know-what-I'm-doing looks as they wait, choosing to say nothing for fear of any eavesdroppers.

These glances, if read, would have been lies. Though putting on a calm face, Vall is currently midway through a spiral of panicked rhetorical improvisation. This could be CATACLYSMIC if handled poorly. Yes, the Shadow Network often approached potential clients and offered their services, but nearly NEVER under false pretenses. Certainly, there were exceptions, but the part of Vall's mind that could have encyclopedically dredged those examples up was currently drowning in panic.

Still, in a way it was a relief. Vall was far more accustomed to navigating polite society as an acolyte of the Shadow Network than as a false noble. Master Hollow would fetch him a smack across the back of the head if he could see Vall now.

Luckily, the sorceress' opening was ideal for his purposes. In fact, she could not have chosen a better beginning to the conversation if Vall had asked for it.

Before speaking, Vall carefully and deliberately sets down his untouched drink and rises, bowing to madame d'Lyrandar with just sufficient depth to not be rude. In terms of high-society etiquette, it managed to be both an obeisance and an enormous f*ck-you all at once.

"Madam," he replies in freezing tones, "We have been waiting for half an hour. If there was urgency in 'getting to the point', as you put it, then our business would have surely been completed by now. I come representing a worthy and powerful organization that might do you a great service. You have tasked our patience, now you will exercise your own.

Casting his eyes around the room as he speaks, Vall begins trying to take in the layout under cover of his apparent diatribe, memorizing entrances and exits and hiding places and any secret areas that might show some suggestion of existing.

Perception: [roll0]

"Let us speak in hypotheticals, as words are chains to ones such as ourselves," he continues, beginning to idly pace around the room as his mind races to collect valuable information and balance this delicate game of words that he's just placed himself in. Gods, Ovidiu must think him absolutely mad . . . "Now, let us imagine that you are a powerful noble with the potential to hold the fate of nations in her hands.

"Let us further imagine that such power is not conferred without attracting the envy of lesser minds. Unfortunately, these lesser minds have a way of creating obstacles for their betters, forcing them to divert some element of their own ability and industry towards their removal or superation.

"Continue to imagine that there were a group of concerned citizens who might remove one of these lesser minds entirely, forever negating the need for any further energy to be wasted on their behalf.

"And now, as your final act of imagination, imagine that this group of concerned citizens were willing to place themselves at your disposal, for the removal of one of these lesser minds."

Vall ceases to pace and looks lady d'Lyrandar directly in the eye.

"What lesser mind, hypothetically, would you have removed?"

Forgery is a dangerous, demanding but extremely profitable line of work. Getting in touch with such individuals is not easy for outsiders to the local criminal community and the few brokers authorised to intermediate are always wary of new faces. Still, Lucian knows the right words to use and the right palms to oil.

He quickly made an appointment for the elusive Quill. It was surprisingly fast, to be frank. His guide, the elf Moran, met him outside its loyal haunts, the dockside market there was some sort of truble earlier today there, Lucian gathers) . He led him through a network of scenic but narrow and shadowy ways until finally they entered a seemingly abandoned brick house. Apart from a table and a pair of chairs, the basement seems empty. The small lantern on the table lilluminates only half of the room .

No one is there to greet you either. And then...

"Who are you? Who am I? So many people regard identities as immutable things. One life to lead. Bound with words, deeds, stable faces and chains of words. Orderly. Predictable."sneers Moran as he takes two steps in front of you.

"But we...we know better, don't we?" The man turns around and changes his features, elongating or shortening limbs, modifying face and vocal chords until before Lucian stands not an elf but a mirror of himself.

"I am Quill. I believe you require my services."

Lucian smiles, quite amused and impressed. Bowing to Quill, but keeping his eyes up and on him at all times, Lucian responds, Your reputation is well earned. Raising himself up to his full height, Lucian continues, You may call me Aron ir'Sien, I am a descendent of a Cyrian House once prominent in banking and finance, but now a scattered shell of what was once a true player in world politics. I have business in Stormhome but have apparently lost my House Sivis approved identification papers. Until I am able to locate them, I'm in need of new papers. I heard you were very adept at facilitating new paperwork being provided quickly and quietly. Never breaking with his character or his story, Lucian smiles at Quill, they both knew he was lying, Lucian wasn't really even trying to hide it, but you can't just break character because you never know who's listening, and Lucian hoped that Quill would recognize and appreciate his professionalism.

Orleanna does not hide her annoyance at Vall's gesture. The monk notices nothing suspicious in the house's architecture. There is something off, but...

"Oh, come now, elf of Shadow. Everyone knows that your House never sends an envoy without a defined offer ready. Let's not beat around the bush, shall we? It's about inquisitor Ronkaar. But what you offer might have severe consequences for me. Besides, you've yet to name your price."

There. For a split second the sorceress's face became a bestial mask of anger. It is gone almost immediately, but a careful trained observer couldn't fail but notice that just for a moment her eyes turned yellow while Ovidiu is certain that no spell or sorcerous manifestation was responsible.

The air is stiff and filled with a heavy chemical smell. Surprisingly Quill leads you to the back of the room where a small office and a few cabinets are located. He opens a shelf, takes an envelope in his hands and shows it to Lucian.

"I believe that this is yours? All we have is to attach it to your identification papers and fill in a few trivial details that the good minister had left blank, master ir' Sien. It will not take long."

Indeed, 20 minutes later it is done. It feels slightly uncanny,as if Quill was prepared to forge this very document this very day.

Vall takes a moment to shoot Ovidiu a questioning look before resuming his diatribe.

"Madam," he rejoins, drawing himself to his full height, "We might gladly do such a service. Indeed, we gladly might. But such a service could easily be provided by any of the organizations that pretend towards removal of client problems. But, if house Thuranni were to have an offer for you, it would be slightly more . . . complex than something so simple as a life for coin. Information, after all, is a far more stable commodity in our circles than mere gold."

Vall sits down again, and tries to quickly think of any possible reason for the woman's brief transformation. All he can conclude from his cursory knowledge of spellcraft is that this must be another one of those sorcerer things.

"Such an offer, madam," he continues, having sat back down, "might go something like this: your life is in danger from a quarter yet-unlooked-for, and we will tell you from where. In exchange, you will tell me the location of my current target, that I might execute my current mission. If these conditions were met . . ."

Vall spreads his hands here, gesturing as one might when leaving things to chance.

". . . well, house Thuranni might take this as a sign that our interactions would be mutually profitable, and another offer might be forthcoming. One that might focus less on the preservation of your life, and more on the deprivation of another's. I hope my meaning is clear?"

As Vall says this, he feels a little queasy. Yes, the letter of Shadow Network law had nothing against what he was about to do, but the spirit . . . well, it was borderline. Very borderline. House Phiarlan would not be pleased by this turn of events . . .

Lucian is both impressed and troubled by this Quill character. On one hand it's just prudent business to have skeleton papers prepared to facilitate a speedy transaction, on the other hand, this just seemed too coincidental. Getting forged documents was suppose to be difficult and costly, even for one of his skill set, but this so far had gone too smooth. When Quill hands him the paperwork, and announces it as a gift, Lucian can no longer keep the suspicion from his face. A Gift? I'm unaccustomed at receiving such gifts, but I appreciate your hospitality, generosity, and discretion. Taking the paperwork from Quill, Lucian will tuck it away into an inner pocket where it will be safe. I expect my stay in Stormhome will be lengthy, and like-minded people are often hard to find. Should you find yourself in need of one, you'll frequently be able to find me in the Cyrian social circles Where I am sure you will eventually come asking for a gift of your own...

Lucian enters his room at the inn and drops his purchases for the gala on the bed before walking over to the table. Pulling out the identification papers that Quill made for him, Lucian sits down and begins to inspect them more closely. The interaction with Quill was bizarre, and there was clearly an ulterior motive behind the shifter's action, so it seemed best to inspect the paperwork to the best of his abilities before he tried using it.

Once his investigation is complete, Lucian[Aron] realizes that he still has hours to burn before the gala, so he pockets the paperwork, rebuckles his sword on his hip, and makes his way out of the room (being careful to be noticed by any of the other party members), in search of/or information on Templar Rouen Alcander.

Not sure if Lucian knows anything about the Templar, personally, I don't remember learning anything about him, so I'm assuming Lucian is starting from scratch (let me know if that's an incorrect assumption). Lucian would start with trying to learn some basic information, such as "What the heck is a templar, where are the stationed, and what can he expect based on the title alone." Once he's gotten that far, he'll start trying to dig out specific information on his mark, where he can fine him, and what type of person he is.

Lucian examines the papers carefully. He concludes that Quill did an outstanding job.

Beginning his investigation on Rouen Alcandar, Lucian finds some answers in the inn's very own bar. Alcandar, as a member of the Order of Templars, belongs to the militant part of the Church of the Silver Flame. Like many Aundairian Templars, he represents the puritan faction of the Church. "Old Bonfire" is an imposing figure despite his age(late 50s) and has participated in numerous excorcisms, cultist hunts and investigations. His zeal, devotion to traditional values and uncompromising character are renowned. Alcandar not much liked among Stormhomers, it seems, but he is respected by many, though some people claim that his passion fir uncovering corruption and evil has caused way too much harm.

Once outside of the mansion, Vall breathes deeply and clasps Ovidiu on the shoulder.

"Friend Ovidiu," he half-stammers, trembling slightly, "I hope you will never again see me scramble so."

"I can say the same, Mr. Nael. Now, let's not mess up again."
The glare Ovidiu gives might remind someone more of an enemy than all ally. Ovidiu than retracts his gaze, having made his point.
"Let us search for the others. Hopefully we can continue now that what is done is done."

Gavilar Kholin stepped over the plank and finally stepped foot on Stormhome after a two-week woyage. His contact was supposed to meet him near the statue of Selavash with new orders after the aborted job at Trolanport (those gomes are fiendish)...but that he is nowhere to be seen. Instead, Gavilar meets Raena Durr, overworked, moody and dandruff-challenged as always. Still, she's been dependable.

" It's all gone to Khyber" says the woman, without any niceties. "Sulinar has vanished. There's a team here tasked to find and extract him. They're maintaining cover as Doran Nael, wealthy land owner from Karrlakton, and his entourage.I directed tham at the Pelican inn. You are to join them so let's head there."

"Masters Nael and Sot, I brought the man you were looking for. Mister Gorren comes with the greatest references." says Durr. "You will find him an excellent addition to your team, especially now that mister Rawt is to return to Korth, as per your instruction. Hopefully your efforts will bear fruit soon. Now, I have prepared mr. Rawt's tickets. If you'll follow me, sir..." Raena leaves you with Gavilar, taking Weiller with her.

The warforged walks around the room, eyeing the elf up and down as he speaks, she analyzes every aspect of it, reading the elf the best she can, eventually blurting out after he speaks "You've caused it, haven't you? Hmm?" she walks closer, placing a firm but comforting hand over his shoulder and letting it linger for a moment, staring at his eyes, eventually lowering her face to his level, stopping only when really close, eye-to-eye "Say it all, leave nothing out.". Platina continues to analyze every word that comes out of his mouth and his every move, almost as if savoring the moment.

"A pleasure to meet you, Master Gorren," he begins, "I'm hope we will manage to establish a mutually-beneficial working relationship. I'm sure you've been briefed on the circumstances of the mission, and I humbly beg your patience as I update you: the sorceress d'Lyrandar admits no knowledge of our quarry's whereabouts, but through her we have learned of a certain lockbox at the Leprechaun that might hold something deeply embarrassing to the redoubtable agent. Given that the sorceress is aware of its contents, I would recommend we secure them with some haste. However, your opinion and that of Mister Sot carries far more weight here. I fear I am better suited as an implement than a craftsman."

So saying, he stands at ease and glances between his companions expectantly. This new fellow has a rough look about him, but Vall does not particularly mind rough right now. After the nerve-fraying dance of hypotheticals and courtesies that he had been forced to employ in the Louren Mansion, a little directness would be somewhat welcome.

Wait, so this Lord ir' Lain had vanished up Morlas because he'd heard about secret animal training secrets? That didn't sound right. Raising dire beasts? Shapeshifting to train animals? All of it seemed pretty common sense stuff. You'd think everyone would be doing it, really. Which meant the unique thing about what Lord ir' Lain was doing was he had someone COMPETENT doing it. Which Morlas wouldn't be too big a risk too. Then again if there were a bunch of tricks to it... maybe it was worth checking this Lord out.

Ovidiu shakes Gavilar's hand. As he bends over, he notices the mark of the Blood of Vol on his pack.
'Oh.' Ovidiu didn't like dealing with the Blood of Vol. One wrong move could alert others to the fact that he wasn't a "true" follower; That he didn't believe in what they were teaching. Usually he just showed his distance, but in this situation, with someone he'd rather not have steering, it would be foolish of him to take the opportunity.
Ovidiu ponders for a few seconds over what to say, then answers.
"I have two suggestions. Take them to heart."
Ovidiu puts out one finger. "We are to go search for the others."
Two. "You will not blow your cover."

If we are met by any of the lady d'Lyrandar's entourage, it would go well if you were to feign affiliation to the Shadow Network as well."

Here Vall pauses, remembers himself, and bows again to both.

"Should you think it wise, of course. Forgive my presumption."

Chastising himself, he stands now to greater deferential attention. In his mind, he is composing a letter to his masters, which he will post at the earliest convenience.

Content with the work that Quill performed, Lucian folds his papers and places them inside his inner pocket before heading out to begin his latest investigation.

Lucian's investigation into Alcander proved much more informative than he was expecting, although how exactly to utilize it was still a large question. The Baronesse certainly gave me a challenging pair.. holy warrior and goodie philanphropist. Finding dirt on these two is going to be like finding fire on the plane of water... A little frustrated with himself and his lack of ideas, Lucian considers his options. Saenna ir' Thoran seemed to be the more accessible target, and Kerr was a red flag that couldn't be ignored. Something felt off about their relationship, and seducing Saenna played more to Lucian's strengths. Settling on the decision to continue to pursue Saenna as his primary target, Lucian decides to spend the remainder of his time before the gala visiting Allina d' Lyrandar to try and acquire what information he can about Saenna's real estate ventures.

I assume Allina has an office or something similar. Lucian [Aron] will visit under the guise of a potential investor trying to learn about what's happening in local real estate markets.

Stern, business-like Alina d' Lyrandar was glad to see a prospective noble client like Aron ir' Sien (and not at all displeasing to the eyes, she adds mentally). The half-elf infoms Lucian that Saennna has been into a buying spree and has actually caused a price spike into the real estate market almost single-handedly. "At first it seemed random, but she has acquired properties erected on each of the city's major arteries. Why, she has set up a complete network from the docks to the wealthiest districts which, if she actually was interested in trade, would assure an optimal distribution of goods and services! Ultimately, I believe Stormhome is the next most natural extension of my house, and I plan to have both a business establishment as well as a residence here. Going back to reviewing the city maps, Lucian asks, What makes you think Lady Saenna isn't interested in trade? This seems like a rather interesting set of purchases, what other motivation could she have?

The frst was a donation, a chapter house to New Galifar's Order of the White Rose, and the second an orphanage. She has not made the slightest mention of commercial activities. It may be that she is biding her time but if so, she has kept her cards close at hand".

How attractive is Alina? And how high up in House Lyrander is she?

She's certainly not displeasing to the eyes-a mature redhead half-elf woman, confident despite her small stature. Technically she is of relatively low to middle rank since real estate is not supposed to be Lyrandar business, but she is not witout influence to the city's commercial affairs.

Lucian nods, All signs have pointed to the Leprechaun Club from the moment this mission started, and I believe its infiltration remains our highest priority. I've have little to report as of yet, mostly prospecting. Though, as it turns out, Saenna and myself share a mutual acquaintance and they are attempting to facilitate an introduction for me later this evening. Extracting information from her will likely take more time given the personal nature of the topics to be broached. Apparently she's known to be quite the goody goody girl, yet her dalliance with Sulinar was concurrent to her relationship with one Master Kerr, a rather inhospitable character of questionable morals. There is no doubt that something is amiss with Lady Saenna, whether it involves Sulinar remains to be seen.
