(I will keep updating this very post with newer settings and figures as the games goes on)

Everything begins when...

@dextercorvia :
Don Carlos (by the way, do you have a more complete description of this character? I may use it in the future :)) is well aware of his acolyte calling for helping others and usually allows Antonio to go out his manor and bring what help he can give to the less affluent. However, today the Don has something else in mind for Antonio. - Antonio, I have a assignment for you today. In fact, two. You may choose any as well as decline both. Don Carlos explain that he is looking for a wife for his son and thinks he may have found one. A young woman, Tieta Rabunaga, daughter of rich metalwork merchant. Your mission would to go there and interview the girl and report back. The second assignment is to go in near village, an old town called Santo Barro, and hand a letter to the mayor. He asks to not read the letter or let anyone do it. If decline both of it, Don Carlos has no other assignments for you and he will let you leave the manor and do as you please. Just return in time for dinner.

The setting:
The game happens in a standard medieval setting, with lords and nobles ruling over the less unfortunate. Conflicting parties are always present and a bigger conflict is about to happen. The War of Raggeds is a conflict that actually happened in real life and took ten years and uncountable lives. Strong and clever characters will be able to change history if they want to but only through great effort. Pacifists may try to avoid the bloodshed and belligerents may try to spread and enlarge the conflict even more.

Santa Fe is the starting point and the center of the conflict. A large and prosperous fief, ripping with wealth and never ending increase in population cap.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-nJaxOzJFwu4/VMfG77Dj5iI/AAAAAAAAA2I/LVwiqAQxUdw/s720/Santa%2520Fe%2520map2.jpg

Some important figures:

Bento Gonçalves, fief lord of Santa Fe, is an austere and warlike man with secret dreams of royalty (or so are the rumors about him). Along with its allies, other lords of the region, some say he plots to form its own state, one not subjugated to the excesses of the crown. His fief gathers around three thousand individuals between citizens and slaves. There is a sacristy, barracks with stables and casting, infirmary and other places like warehouses, inns and taverns. Like other feuds in the region, Santa Fe survives of the leather and dried meat trade. His family consists of eight adult children, three women and five men, and his wife.

Lord Bichina is one of most powerful nobles in the fief. He has no living family and lives in huge mansion inside the walls. He has some secretive business, that is for sure, and some say he even leads a obscure group called The Whispers, who seeks to overthrow Bento Gonçalves rule.

Father Caldas is the ideological and spiritual mentor of Bento Gonçalves and one of the organizers of the Rio Grande province (region where the feuds allies Bento Gonçalves meet). Wise, witty and a great orator, he is the voice of the manor. This man is also responsible for divine services in the sacristy of Santa Fe. The temple is named after St. Cubert, patron of the province.

Lieutenant Scientist Tito Livio is the man responsible for the library and the war school in fief of Santa Fe. Renowned naturalist and arcanist, Tito teaches the art of magic and war to the children of the nobility. Skeptical, introverted and thoughtful, Tito also takes care of finances in this fief. In fact, this man is a foreigner in the region, coming from a land far away geographically, but culturally closely connected to the province of Rio Grande.

General Neto is the head of the militia and feudal guard. Great warrior and strategist, knows the intricacies of war like few others. About his command are a few hundred men: patrol, soldiers and guards. All well armed and trained.

Don Carlos Ydalgo is one of richest landowner and vassals of Bento Gonçalves. His family history goes back more than three hundreds years old, even older than Gonçalves shield. Kind with friends but severe with others, this wise man has no trust in Bento's desire for power. He sees Bento's claims for independence as excuses. Despite not agreeing with his suzerain, Don has a deep respect for him and until now has never publicly challenged Bento. Nuno, his youngest son, an aspiring knight, travels the land doing errands for his father, always in the company of Astroncio, a veteran gaucho and ranger.

Lieutenant Indigo Ybarra, mage and colleague of Tito, in the war school.

Father Godofredo a diplomat and a cleric of Hextor. Member of a delegation sent by his empire in the south. He is accompanied by Dedonolho, the swordsman, and an unidentified person.

Father Quevedo is a necromancer. He has a servant called Hodor, a brute.

Macanudo, The Xirú dos Pampas, as he is known, is a dwarven adventurer, by nature and profession. He is the most notable and trustworthy Gaucho in the region, or the whole empire depending on who you ask. He has driven herds for more than an hundred years, since the day he was expelled from his siblings home, in the mountains. He is the one if you ever need to some adventuring histories or tips.

Like the shining pioneer dawn
From the beacon of divinity
Was September the twentieth
The herald of our Liberty

But it won't suffice to be free
Being strong, bold and brave
A people lacking virtue
Is fated to be enslaved

Let us show then valor, constancy
In this impious, injust war
May our prowess serve us
As a model for the world (for the world)
For the whole world may our prowess be a model
Be a model for the whole world

"Once, we ruled. Once our Potentates ruled from palaces of gold and splendor... but the palaces are ruins now. As is our empire. And now we live in evil days....our clans scrap and scavenge and watch the mammals grow ever stronger. Our ancestors must weep. If the dead weep.

I will weep for them if not... but I will also hope. The world turns. What was once, could be again. Perhaps one day, we will be great again. Perhaps a new Isskan* will take up bow and blow...bring order where there is chaos."

Perhaps."

As they talk, Antonio can not help but compare Don Carlos to the portrait on the wall behind him. It had been painted perhaps ten years ago, but the differences were minor. A touch more frosting about the temples. His skin a shade paler from fewer afternoons in the Sun. The Don is kind to his family and subjects, but shrewd in business. As a minor frontier nobleman, he would be broke otherwise. Carlos had a handsome wife and four children. The youngest girl was only eight. Antonio finds it hard to believe that Mateos, the eldest, was ready for marriage.

Happy for the chance to be useful to his kind patron, Antonio accepts both assignments. I'll gladly deliver your letter, and interview the senorita, Don Carlos. Antonio bows and leaves.

The letter will be the simplest thing. I'll attend to that first. The young priest leaves the manor, and heads toward Santo Barro

"Dont worry, Macanudo. And thanks for the amazing stories", Punheteus tell him when the city gates come to sight.

His eyes shine as he begin to think in the fortune they could make in this place.
He take a look at his sister and smile, but say no word.

Once at the gate he listen to the guard joke/provocation and force himself to smile widely, "You're pretty funny. We're a couple of travelling workers: I'm a carpenter and my sister here is a herbalist and healer", he then wait for the guard to open passage for them.

@JDL:
Ah, just another day in the road. For you, an incorrigible nomad, being in the road is the most obvious outcome of living among others sentient beings. You think, is not that you don't know how to be polite or respectful, you just don't care a single piece of **** about what others think about you. This last time, you thought, things could have went different. A rough job, in a rough farm, with rough companions. Who would think anyone would give a damn about respect? Well, they gave. Well, nothing worthy thinking about it anymore. Time to move on and find another job. You are near the major city in the region, some well know Santa Fe, with all their nobles and horses and ****, and horse ****s for all you care. But one these nobles, who would guess, is in need for some extra hands to escort him to a village near the ocean. Some two days riding, no haste, so the kind of travel without fear of getting a sore ass. He asks you in his grammatically correct way, all pompous and ****: -Hey, good man, you seems to be strong and capable. Would you be so kind and escort us in our travel? I promise, you will be recompensed very well. One of his companions tells you the details and offers one of their spare horses. You can choose to go with then or to keep looking for others opportunities.

@J-H:
After concluding your chores in the stables, you go to visit your mentor, Lt. Ybarra (plz, let me know if you have a more complete description of this guy. As I did with Dex's Don Carlos, I will give him life in this game). You find him in his room, studying some old scrolls. - Hmm, something is missing... ow, Bernardo, good to see you. How are your job at farm? I heard that no sheep, no cow or propriety have fell pray to wild animals after you start looking after then. Very nice news, indeed. After exchanging pleasantries, Lt. Ybarra reveals why he had summoned you:- Coburn, my pupil, I have some concerns my mind own could not take care alone. You see, this fief is passing by some grater changes recently. A lot of newcomers arrive at every passing day, and with then, news of other regions of the empire. Some of it, I fear, may strike harder this fief than any siege weapon. (after a dramatic pause) The old emperor is attending a dinner with the death, if you know what I mean.

Indigo explains that the death of the monarch may lead to a conflict due the fact the next in the lineage is just five years old and, some say, mentally inept for the role of king. Regarding Santa Fe, the problem lays in the fact that the second in line, a cousin of the rightful heir, has a well know hate for Bento Gonçalves and all the southerns. Most deep hate. Finally, he asks you to escort the imperial tax collector, who just recently arrived at the city, while he does his job. - I want you to keep him safe, and I well informed about what he says or do. What I am asking you should be keep unknown, at all cost. The collector is in the mayor building and will start his deed as soon as you get there. He is waiting for guards to escort him, you is one of then. Any thoughts?

EDIT: Due your background and position, you may take a MW version of all your equipment.

- And the ugliest carpenter I have ever seem. The adds making others guards laugh too. - Ok, pretty face. You can pass. There is a carpenter guild for you and herbalist enclave for your sister to visit first and foremost if you plan to work here. He then briefly explains where each place is located and let you pass. What you will do first? You can take a third route if want too. You have been sleeping in the wilderness for far too long so a straw mattress and cotton sheets would be a blessing.

"Thanks, kind man", he tell the tall guard (everybody was tall for him) and make his way to the carpenter's guild.

"If I am to work honestly here I guess I'll need some introductions", he think to himself and watch his sister leaving for the herbalist enclave.

"Let's meet again by sunset near the gates, ok?", he shout to her and keep on moving.

"It sounds like dangerous times are ahead. I hope you're wrong. I'd rather deal with coyotes or jaguars than with armies on the march. At least figuring all that out is above my station..."

The halfling falls silent for a moment. "You don't trust the tax collector. Fine, I'll watch him, if it helps us stay out of the dark times you are predicting. Sir."

The halfling leaves, shaking his head...tax collectors are not wanted, but for one to require a group of guards in town means things may be worse than he realized. Normally the tax collector only has a guard and an assistant; fear of Imperial retribution did the rest.

Bernardo takes a couple of minutes to make sure his clothes and armor are straight and relatively clean, and then goes to the mayor's house to present himself.

Rufus eyes the bigjob in front of him with a wary stare. But with his coin running low and no other offers in sight, he spits on his palm and extends it in a sign of acceptance of the job. He takes a while to look over the nags in this train, muttering and cursing at the condition of a few more worn specimens. He figures one is destined for the glue factory when they reach their destination, but he resolves to do the best he can on the trip to aid the poor creature in its last few days. Accepting the offer of a pony, he lets the creature follow his own mount Sheila. This might not be a glorious job, but it beats getting run out of town as a jobless vagrant again.

You bid farewell to your beloved sister and makes your way to the carpenter's guild. After an hour of walking by crowded streets, busy merchants, a lot of tall people and just a few smaller than you and finally reach your destination. The two floor building clearly shows a care and appreciation for good woodwork, as you would expect from a carpenter's guild. However, something else capture your attention outside the building. You see, as someone with your skills and way of doing things, you have learned to recognize roguish people when you see one. This hooded guy, hands in his pockets and watching the entrance of the guild, really fits your standards for a suspicions and potentially troublesome person. Before going inside you can try to uncover what he wants, you can wait and see if he makes a move or just ignore him and let this fella with their own business. What is gonna be?

Bernardo takes a couple of minutes to make sure his clothes and armor are straight and relatively clean, and then goes to the mayor's house to present himself.

Before leaving your mentor's room your hear his last words: -I do not trust tax collectors, even more a imperial one. But what I expect from you is that you keep him safe and well. An incident with a imperial envoy would means a lot, probably even more than what I can foresee.

After that you finally makes your way to where the collector is standing. When you arrive there you see the imperial envoy and his barouche waiting for you. In addition of yourself, the entourage has two regular fief guards, an imperial escort and an elf scout, one of the best of his kind in the fief. This elf carries in his belt six gunpowder pistols (DMG 145) and a repeating light crossbow in his back. The imperial guard dons heavy armor and wields a great sword. Nothing special about the regular guards, you notice. After properly introductions, the entourage departs. The tax collector is man of strong personality and despicable sense of humor. He insists to start his pilgrimage by the carpenter's quarter, despite being in the very opposite side of where your was. Reaching your destination took a long time. During the whole time you felt uneasy by possibilities of being attacked. But then, you finally arrived. The collector started his job at once. After finishing all workshops, the taxman went inside the carpenter's guild. As far as you know, guilds do not pay tax for imperial envoys, but who knows. The two guards stayed out tacking care of the diligence while you four went inside....

Santo Barro is a relatively nearby village but still far enough to need one day to go and one day come back, if one has the time to spare. Your case. Don Carlos insists that you bring with you one of his sons; the boy needs some adventuring to grow properly, Don says. Beyond you two, other three serfs will travel together to take care of everything. Your group travels without heralds nor shields, just plain travelers clothes and light horses or pones. Just outside the city walls, your group stop by a bystander, a short and rough looking man and his loyal dog. The boy asks if the man would like to accompany him in his journey (the boy is given to superstitions, like never travel in odd numbers or odd days.)

The journey begins. You and Antonio are know travelling together and chat a bit, if you guys want it.

Antonio had ridden a horse a few times, but never for very long, and never an enjoyable experience. So, fidgeting in his saddle, the cleric was unable to intercede before young Nunito made the invitation. Antonio starts to object, "Nuno," but pauses while he looks over the stranger. Part of the point of this trip was for Nuno to gain experience. It would be best to let him see this through, so long as the man isn't too dangerous.

Sense Motive to get a feel for the general trustworthiness of the stranger and his dog. [roll0]

All I have right now is that he's a half-elf with bright blue hair. He's probably also a warmage, over the age of 50, and has significant combat experience. This is probably a semi-retirement posting for him... or, it was. He's seen the elephant, and he knows the elephant is coming here.

Bernardo follows the tax collector inside. He'd strike up a conversation with the keen-eyed elf scout, but a guard talking while business is ongoing is rude, and would keep him from hearing the tax collector's business with the guild. Since this is odd behavior, he's going to try to listen in.

Rufus strikes Antonio as a rough fellow, used to outdoor work and his own company. He seems to have a great fondness for the animals in the caravan train, and speaks kindly with those who treat them well, ignoring those who act like their mounts are mere automatons. He openly wears the holly and mistletoe of a druid, and he's fond of speaking to his riding dog mount in that language. He's a halfling of few words and prefers to fill the silence with puffs on his corncob pipe.

Eventually noticing Antonio studying him, Rufus directs his mount alongside Antonio's, interpreting the fellow's curiosity as an interest in his pouch of pipeweed. He extends the open pouch towards Antonio, offering the leaf to him wordlessly.

Inside the Carpenter's Guild the tax collector engage in a fierce discussion with the patron. The tax collector argues that the establishment should pay too and he shows a parchment, signed by the king, that support his claim. The patron, in turn, explains that such taxation will overwhelm his business. After a brief pause, the patron seems to be about to accept the new taxation and invites the tax collector to come to his desk, inside another room of the floor. At this very moment you verbalizes your concerns about him going inside alone, but the tax collector dismiss your worries and follows the patron. The elf and the knight exchanges looks with you, they too clearly vexed by the taxman stubbornness.

While you and your companions wait for the taxman to come back, come to your mind that the other people standing inside the place do not fit very well the cabinetmakers kind. Even more, now that you look at, these guys are or changing bags of splintered wood from a spot to another or taking a chisel in the workbench, scratching idly the table with it and than dropping it again without accomplishing anything. Any thoughts?

Bernardo casually walks around the room a bit, and then ends up standing next to the elf scout. If nobody's around, he casually leans over and whispers. "This may be the carpenter's guild, but I've seen more woodworking done whittling by firelight with a pen-knife than they're doing here."

He waits for a response.

The first hours of travel pass calmly, just a little hot due the dry air and afternoon sun. At some point, the group reaches a bridge two or three horses wide. Nuno, stop and dismount and says he wants to wash his face and hands a little bit. The region's landscape is composed mostly by grasslands, with just small spots of forests around water holes and rivers.
More to come...

The elf acknowledges your concern and whispers back: - I counted five. Stay behind me and protect my back. The elf is dead serious and the knight is no less worried. After some minutes the door that separated the room and patron's desk finally opens. The tax man comes first. At first, you do not notice anything wrong. But your elven companion makes a swift move and all sudden his both hands now hold pistols. Then you realize what made the elf draw his weapons. The tax man eyes, staring you with a dead glare, sees nothing because his consciousness has abandoned him. He promptly falls head first in the ground and you see dagger deeply carved in his back. The knight tries to hold him but the man hit the ground too fast for him. After that you hear the patron shout: - Kill then all. We have to leave this fief at once. He slam the door and the suspicions people start drawing their weapons and encircling your group.

"Nuno," cautions Antonio, "There is something in the water under the bridge. It is probably just a log, but I've heard tales of water lizards that are dangerous. Let me take a bit closer look, to make sure there is no threat." The priest assumes it is a log, but any excuse to delay mounting that horse with his tender legs seems worthwhile. After taking sometime spotting the thing you realize that is in fact the dead body of a woman. By the looks, seems to have been a teenager or a young adult in life. The body wears farmer clothes, cheap ones. You know that are numerous small villages, some even made by family, in this region. One of the serfs has a map and shows you that the river you have found the body pass through some villages in the north and ends in the sea further in the south, so maybe this woman may have lived nearby. Without inspecting closely the body you will not be able to identify the cause of death, so, what do you guys do? Search further or leave it be?

The elf tumbles away from T4, drops his empty pistol and draws another one in a one fluidly motion before firing point blank shot him.

Antonio pulls a shift from his belongings, and wraps the girl. The priest says a brief prayer, committing her soul to the afterlife. With the help of one of the others, Antonio ties her body to one of the pack mounts. He is conflicted. Finding her killer is the right thing to do, as Nunito says, still can I protect him from harm if we set out on such a quest? Finally, the priest remembers that Don Carlos sent the boy with him for seasoning, and agrees to follow. "Nuno, we should send one of the men back with the body for burial. He can also take word to your father, so that Don Carlos doesn't worry when we take longer to arrive than he expects."

@Bernardo: Soon after he battle ended the guards entered the room. The elf called for then and said: - I will look after the patron. I need that one of you (looking at you and the two guards) go to the barracks as fast as possible, while other will stay here and help the knight in case any thugs appears. @Bernardo: After searching for awhile in the sewers below the city, your group finds a reinforced wooden door. The scent of dry blood is strong, the kind of smell that reminds you of slaughterhouses. There is no hole for keys, just a iron ring in middle of the plank. The guard volunteers himself to open the door. He puts both hands in the wood and gently push. Someone, ro something, destroyed the buildings and set fire the remains. Any thoughts?

Rufus grimaces as he takes in the scene, riding up on his dog. "Nasty business boss," he says, gesturing with a nod at the ruined homes. He rides past the entrance of each, checking inside briefly to see if he can spot any signs of survivors or bodies of the attackers.

"Watch that well. Might be poisoned," he says, riding over and checking down the hole. "Anyone hiding down there?" he says with an echo into the mouth of the well, looking and listening to check nobody thought to seek refuge down at the bottom during the attack. If he doesn't find anything, he'll wind the bucket up and double check there's nothing of interest.

Then he stops and checks the ground carefully, searching for tracks that might lead to the attackers. If he finds them, he'll have Sheila try to get the scent and follow their trail.

Taking 20 on Spot, Listen, Search and Handle Animal checks involved in looking for clues, listening for survivors, finding footprints, and pushing my animal companion to Track via Scent. Each check should take about 2 minutes (20 checks in a row).

@Bernardo: (both the guard and the elf failed in their saves. You passed at large) The smell of rotten flesh, fat and guts left your companions severely disturbed (sickened). - What foul smell is that. I can barely breath here, says the guard. Despite his conditions, the elf overcomes his loathing and enters the room, the others follow him. Inside the room you realize why this place stinks so much. Hanging over the walls are dismembered bodies of all shapes and sizes, all of then completely covered with swarms of maggots and flies. Other then the bodies, you see many instruments of torture. A playground for the wicked. A thin fog fills the place, not enough to hinder your vision but still, a hindrance. Everything is dead silent. And then a childish voice comes from further inside the room. - Who's there? Is you master Bento? Have brought gifts? Soon after you see the thing who spoke those words. The largest man you have ever seen appears in front of you. Despite his size this man has a baby face, completely with bald head and chubby cheeks. He wears a blood stained leather apron. He looks at you with a interrogative look. - You are not master. You have come to play? His hand holds a gruesome machete with bits of flesh still glued in it. You may fight, but would you win? What do you do?

@Rufus and Alberto: Rufus descends the bucket until it hits something hard. At same time a moan comes from the bottom of the well. You tries to see what made it but it is to dark, even for you. After a brief moment a second moan comes, this time more like a calling for help... fast forward... It seems that the village was attacked by very well organized and extremely cruel bandits. They killed most and the rest was taken. A little boy, who happened to be playing by the well when the attack unfolded, fell on it and survived, despite all the odds. The poor creature is severely injured but out of mortal danger. The raiders left some tracks in case you decide do search for then as well as many unanswered questions. Nuno is determined to fallow the tracks and bring justice to this band and salvation to villagers. What you wanna do?

@Rufus and Alberto: (would be better if you two advances know. Level Up!)

Alberto, the amulet resembles the ones carried by Hextor priests. Hextor followers believe that some evilness are necessary to build a society. Things like slavery, executions, etc are the backbone of any successful civilization, they say. Cruel, yes, but at same time just. "You cannot make a omelet without crashing some eggs."

Godofredo considers your words for while and says. - Wise words. Even wiser when spoken by so young lad... well, I will do as you say, fellow holyman.
Nuno echoes yours words, Alberto, in his own way, btw. Than, the diplomat concludes. - However, two of us can go as safely as three, I say. Here, this is Dedonolho, a blademaster. He will help you. His prowess with swords is legendary. Than, he smiles. And this time I will not accept a no for an answer.

Before leaving, Godofredo speaks to Rufus. - You should reconsider your habbits, young halfling. Smoking is a bad habit, only suitable for stubborn dwarfs and unsophisticated orcs.

After the diplomat leaves, Antonio asks Rufus to check his saddle before they depart. When they are together, he leans in close and whispers, "Stranger, I hate to embroil you in this trouble, but I am concerned. It is written that Hextor is not satisfied with his place as a member of the great pantheon, but seeks to rule it. I know not if that is true, but such ambition is often reflected in his devout clergy. Godofredo is his man through and through I think. It wouldn't surprise me if he left his man here to cause trouble for the boy, and thereby hold influence over his father, my Liege. The priest had felt his gut tighten at the sight of such a large force. He quickly ducked around a tree, despite the knowing looks from his companions. He'd never been in a battle before, and his resolve emptied along with his bowels. After cleansing himself as best he could with such leaves as came to hand, Antonio uncovered a large well balanced branch. The wood was springy, dense, and if the scent was any indication resistant to rot. His newly acquired club in hand, Antonio returns to the strategy session.

"In my studies of history, I read about Carlos Martillo, who defeated an overwhelming force through the use of magicks intended to reshape the very battlefield to his advantage. The gods have not seen fit to grant me any such ability, but perhaps there are some among us who can make the very shrubs ensnare our enemies, mitigating the advantage of numerical superiority. It would not be dishonorable to use such abilities in combat. If the gods have ordained it that one among us is so equipped, then it is a sure sign of their blessing." That last was to forestall any objection from Nuno, who Antonio knew possessed a youthful and idyllic view of chivalry that would not serve them well in this fight.

The priest looks to Astroncio, Dedonholho, and Rufus. The first had demonstrated some ability with magic, and the other two were unknowns in this equation.

Welcome new folks!

I tend to think that if Rufus has an Entangle spell we can cake walk this. Otherwise, perhaps we can split the party, with one part doing a hit and run distraction attack, and the other smaller force rescuing the prisoners. What do you think, Rufus? Unfortunately, Antonio only has single target debuffs and healing spells today.

I also never gave him any weapons, so I hope it is okay to pick up a club.

Like the shining pioneer dawn
From the beacon of divinity
Was September the twentieth
The herald of our Liberty

But it won't suffice to be free
Being strong, bold and brave
A people lacking virtue
Is fated to be enslaved

Let us show then valor, constancy
In this impious, injust war
May our prowess serve us
As a model for the world (for the world)
For the whole world may our prowess be a model
Be a model for the whole world

"Once, we ruled. Once our Potentates ruled from palaces of gold and splendor... but the palaces are ruins now. As is our empire. And now we live in evil days....our clans scrap and scavenge and watch the mammals grow ever stronger. Our ancestors must weep. If the dead weep.

I will weep for them if not... but I will also hope. The world turns. What was once, could be again. Perhaps one day, we will be great again. Perhaps a new Isskan* will take up bow and blow...bring order where there is chaos."

Perhaps."

- Hey, humie, get out me of here. This place smells like rotten horse cun! The thing keeps huffing and the others costumers start getting out of the place. Hey, I will not bite again, ok? I promise, man.

Your group waits until the nightfall to attack the camp. The night is dark, with just the moon and some torches to light your way. So, in case you need to fall back, you will have to do it with very poor light conditions. To begin the action I need to know your positions in the map. The serf is in fact Manuel da Costa, you guys will have time to know each other after the fight. You can split the party if you want. Remember to be out of the sight of the sentries right now, in the positioning stage. The guards will sound the alarm if any suspicions thing came in their line of vision.

The night has finally come. With it came the Lady Dream to claim your companions-in-chains minds.Their weariness make then easy targets for the comforting grasp of Lady Dream. The guards, however, are much more harder to prey on, you realize. You can count four of then, arranged to ward as much camp as possible.

You exit the room and found yourself in lone alley. By the looks of the buildings around you must be in the slum of the city. Bad place to live. Many freed slaves, robbers, murders and whatnot kind of malefactors. You still can found your way around here if want to but staying here too much will most likely lead to problems, you realize. Anywhere in particular you may want to go?

The night sky shines with a full moon. There is two guards in the front of the building and more in the windows and towers. They seem to be engaged in some kind of argument but they still notice your approach. - May I help you, sir?

Antonio

The priest rises from his prayers as they begin their assault. His new club is tucked into his belt for now. Antonio gathers the group together for a blessing and encouragment. "Remember, these men are guilty of kidnapping, and stand accused of murder. If they surrender and beg for mercy, it would be best to capture and return them to Don Carlos for judgment. However, if they resist, and I doubt not that they will -- men heavy with sin seek oft to avoid judgement -- then it is your duty to strike them down. You have clear conscience in this matter. The right of law and justice is on our side.

My prayers have revealed to me that the best chance for success is for the most stealthy to accompany Rufus to this point here in the southeast, so that he can safely cast his spell. The rest of you will come with me from the southwest. I will try to free the captives while you dispatch the disabled foes. If any of you have bows or other weapons of distance, this would be an appropriate time to ready them. Does anyone have a knife that I can borrow to loose the bindings on the kidnapped serfs?"

@Rufus -- I think centering the effect on the intersection of LM89 will catch all of the bad guys and none of the prisoners. Since Entangle is long range, you should be able to cast it safely from AF24. (That should be far enough away that you won't be easily spotted. I'm guessing Astroncio will go with you and maybe Manuel. Dedonolho, Nuno, and Antonio can hold position around D22 until the spell goes off, then move up that gap to get to the prisoners.

Next, i manifest a mouth, adding three time the Large upgrade, making it Gargantuan sized, for 3d6+3 damage (8 form points). I start biting on the chains until they break. The fake woodworkers attacked us, and we fought them off. I think we killed most of them. The elf scout - the one with the fire arms - tracked them into an underground area. We found..."

Bernardo stops to take a deep breath and collect himself before going on.

"We found a torture chamber run by a giant of a man named Hodor. He killed the guard that was with us with a single blow. The two of us... well...

I woke up only thanks to Hodor's master. His name is Quev... actually, I think if I say his name he might hear it. His name ends with Vedo and starts with Que. I think he brought me back as some kind of undead, and then he just... let me go. I don't know why.

Again, sorrey for the long gaps between posts. I hope to fast things up now that the test has passed.
I decided to fast forward a little the encounter. There is too many participants and the entangle spell, albeit such good idea, hold the development of everyone's actions. Other than that, I will roll some of your rolls, like initiative here on the forum. I will make the changes today, perhaps not right now. After that, I expect you players to post at least daily to finish off the combat part. Role play parts can take longer. The game will restart after two minutes of may rounds of arrows volleys, shouts, curses and dog barking.

You was thinking a easy job like that would not draw too many attention, but, guess what, three others wizard like fellows shown up. Lord Bichinha, in his scarlet, rich embroidered, garment has decided that knowledge based tests would be too boring so he decided a combat tournament would be a much more interesting, for him, obviously, way to settle things out.
- Hello, gentleman, I decided to choose my subordinate according to a combat tournament right here, right now. Good luck to all of you.

Competitor 1: No armor, wand and a scared look in his eyes.
Competitor 2: Light Armor, light shield and long sword.
Competitor 3: Light armor, no shield and no weapons in his hands.

Lt Ybarra explains to the novice that he would want to talk to father Caldas personally. The novice, although reluctant, agree to escort you to Father Caldas chambers.

The second math (I will roll everything on my desk):
The two competitors seems to be too well prepared for dueling, you wonder, for someone who don't new it anything about what the test would be. Strange for certain...

Before the fight begins, both competitors lay their buff spells: Comp 2 casts enlarge person and comp 3 casts shield.
Their speed surprises you. They are so fast that you almost miss who is fastest between they.

Comp 3 step ahead and summons a monster to aid him in battle (summon m I)
The fiendish arthropod emerges right in front of comp 2 and tries to bite him asap but fails.
Comp 2 seems to have changed his mind and cast the same spell that comp 3. A celestial arthropod emerges in the backs of 3 and tries to hit him with his horn but fails.
The pendulum inclines back in favor to 3 as he sends a bolt of energy at 2 that hits precisely, despite the armor of 2, although causing minor damage. His fiendish servant disappear right after that and 2 decides to use brute force and charges ahead but fail by very low margin... fast forward. 3 finally manages to outmaneuver 2 and, after many rays, knockdowns his opponent. 3 is the victorious and your new opponent.

Your next math it is about to start. Any last preparation?

Astroncio looses two arrows almost at same time to R9 (1d20+8 = 6+8 = 14/1d20+8 = 14+8 = 22). He misses one and score other for 3 damage.
Mia tries to chop off R5' head and almost succeeds, leaving him bleeding in the ground.

Seeing how the table had turned against they, the bandits try run away from you by engrossing themselves in the forest. Crossing it will take double the time. If you allows they to get away one more round, the night sky and the encroached vegetation will preclude pursuit.

The priest is saddened by the loss of life. His training had prepared him that sometimes it is the will of the gods that good people die, but still he wrestles with why. When the strange girl addresses him, it snaps Antonio out of his reverie. It is my duty to see to the living. The gods will sort out the dead.

"Mira, I am Father Antonio. This is Nuno Hidalgo, son of Don Carlos, liege of this fief. We happened upon the devastated village, and sought you out to bring succor to the helpless and justice to these ruffians."

Facing Nuno, "Let us quickly return the serfs to their village, so they may rebuild. From there, Dedonolho can return to Father Godofredo, who should be with your father by now. I'm certain he will deliver your message, allowing us to continue our mission. I know that you believe it unlucky to have an odd number on a journey. Perhaps Mia and Astroncio will accompany us to Santa Barro. Both have proved themself in this skirmish."

Turning to all of their ragtag band, Antonio addresses the crowd, "The gods have granted us victory tonight, though at a great cost. Your lives were purchased with the blood of these brave warriors. Waste it not. We will travel by night to avoid any more delays. Be wary, watchful, and quiet. Astroncio, please find us a safe path. The rest of us on horseback shall flank the serfs in case of further attack. The dead will be tied to pack horses. Mia, you may ride this horse if you wish. It was ridden last by a brave scoundrel."

And so the impromptus band leave the rogue's camp, leaving many unnamed graves behind. Astroncio takes the time to search for clues of the identity of the bandits but find nothing. Rufus, buried beside his beloved animal, gets a crux and an oration on his funeral.

Dedonolho and the surviving villagers agree to depart to Santa Fe as Antonio had proposed. Before leaving, Nuno gently asks Dedonolho to swear an oath to protect the poor villagers in the way back and the swordsman kindly agrees.

Anstroncio suggests your group march an hour and then camp for the night. - We should seek shelter for the night, m'lord. These plains my hide worse things than bandits and a weary mind make us easy pray.

No longer such warmongers, politically inapt and reactionary people can govern. Lord Bichinha's looks cheerful and a quick look around reveals the same look on the face of the other two magicians.
- You all look young and may not be aware of the things Bento's family has done in the past years, but I have witnessed unspeakable things in all these years.

He seems to be looking for something. - Tomorrow morning we will conduct the ritual. Until then, you will have to stay hidden. There is old shack in the outskirts of the fief you may use. It is place the novices sometimes use to go for enclosure. No one will disturb you there. The father gives instructions how to find the place as well as the entrance door key. Lt. Father Caldas handles you the book he was reading. It is called Livro dos Mortos, an encyclopedia about the undead and things related. His middle fingers marks the page he wants you to read.

The paragraph starts describing the methods involved in bringing the dead to life again and all sorts of shortcomings those instructions incurs. Things like short life span, weaknesses and vulnerabilities. Then the text claims that a method was created to bring to life things with little to no side effects for the necromancer purpose, of course. The method its called necropolitzation. This part is highly technical for you to understand but something you do understand. The part that explains what happens with those who are brought back to normal life after being turned into necropolitans (that is the point I should tell you that I am adapting the rules, not following to the letter Libris Mortis necropolitan template description). It is written that the individuals may loose an unpredictable amount of memories. The book describes some individuals that had lost just few months worth of memories, while others that could only recall their childhood moments.
- You see Bernardo, I can not promise that you will keep all your memories intact... but perhaps... if you could wait a little longer... a week or a month. Perhaps with more time to research we could find a way to preserve all your memories.

Astroncio is the one that rushes to respond your question. - I do know Santo Barro. I know it very well. Before becoming a serf I lived and worked there. It is a small town with old ficus tree in the middle. There is a chapel that we used climb and ring the bell... the priest always tried to catch us. Poor man. Well, that was a long time ago. After defeating the bandits, Nuno turns to see what strange looking thing is Mia, and he clearly doesn't like it. - This little girl... what kind of fiend are you, abomination?!He points his sword to Mia and Astroncio bends his bow, aiming for her too. - Answer me now, demon! Your safety measures proved worthy as some zealots, an order of knights dedicated to purge all of your kind and others, appeared right in front of you. Have you not made this impromptu door the knights would probably feel your presence and start a search and destroy mission. God knows what else this could lead.

Already out of the city and under the moon light you finally finds your future heaven. While walking you realize something strange. As a night creature, you no more fears the darkness or the night. But no only emotions like fears seems to be becoming dull. Hope, anxiety, anger... all things that someday fulfilled your heart and mind have now become somehow unimportant.

After an hour or maybe tow, you can not say for sure, the search for the hut ends. The residence is no more than that, a hut, and the years and lack of repairs made look like a goblin den. But that does not matter now. You enter the building and set by the window, looking the moon, the stars, the empty field ahead. Almost empty... something, no, not just one but three strange looking things are making their way to the hut. The things seems fairly humanoid and even your sensible eyes can not say what those things are exactly. What do you do?

- Eagerness, that is what I like in the young. Such energy, such confidence in human agency are the best virtuosity of the sentient beings. Lord Bichinha takes a parchment from his desk and handles to you. The others got parchments too.
- In this scrolls you will find your instructions. The details, the names, etc. Complete this trial mission and your membership is guaranteed.

In the scroll you find a name, some unknown noble from a small town nearby, a ring and some gold pieces. - Young brother Disk'Val, you must go to Santo Barro village and look after Don Odeveuq. Give this ring to him when you find him. That is all. Now addressing you three he explains that you must not use any kind magic transportation. Use horses or donkeys but no magic. The arcane authority in this fief monopolize this kind of service (and some others like item creation and permanency spells). More than that, they have specially designed wards to detect conjuration (teleportation sub school) casting inside the fief. The wards can detect when and where the spell was cast.

- Bothers, do not take for granted these missions. I know they seems to be easy tasks but still, many contingencies may appear before you. Be aware.

The assailants approach the hut and you identify they as mostly likely humans, they wear cloth from head to toe. They walk quietly and slowly as to not wake whatever may be within your heaven. They hold curved blades in one hand and bucklers in the other. By the combination of poor illumination and window cover, the group are probably unaware of your presence but you can not be sure.

- You should depart at once, young brother. The journey will take two or three days. For safety, you three must ride under the cover of the night and together, for as long as you can. Your newest companions are ready to leave. Horses and travelling stuff can be found easily in the fief and the gold pieces (700 GP) provided should be enough. Some items you may consider buying (gp):
Everfull mug 200
Everlasting rations 350
Magic bedroll 500
Potions or Scrolls of Darkvision (Darkvision has a recharge time of 6 hours)

Astroncio finishes his speech and goes to sleep. It seems this old gaucho has many sad memories and you realize would be best to just let it go. Actually, a good night of sleep would be great, you think. Nuno will be the first to do the night watch, then Antonio and finally Astroncio. The young lady will enjoys a all night of sleeping. Gentlemen rules.

The night goes without incidents, a relief for sure. The first thing you see when you wake is the morning sun bathing the horizon with all his mighty energy. The image calms your mind and feeling of hope fills your heart. Astroncio, the last one to stay guard, is sipping his matutinal tea made from leaves of the Ilex three in a custom designed wooden cup; a secular tradition in this lands. There is cracknels (strips of pork meat clued together with fat), baking in the bonfire. A perfect breakfast.

(I assume the level-up doesn't apply to me right now since I'm already level 2)

Bernardo waits at the corner of glassless window (glass being expensive) for the possible assassins to approach. As they walk up to the door, he puts his wrists together and fans his fingers out, and a wide-angle jet of fire washes over them.

Burning Hands for [roll0] damage, reflex DC 13 for half.
http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/burningHands.htm
Wording of the spell is ambiguous as to whether or not clothes catch on fire.
It sounds like the assassins are walking side by side (1 square apart) so this should catch all 3 of them, or at least two.
[roll1] rounds until I can use Burning Hands again.
Edit Add 1d4 extra damage to that since I"m level 3. No extra DC.

Andrezitos
2015-04-08, 11:02 AM
First, the level up will work on you too and is to get lv 3, not 2. Second, I use this variant on my own way. When you cast a spell, is the spell, or the slot if that is your case, that goes in cool down time. Not the entire circle of magic or same recharge time (general or specific). Edit your post if need it.

J-H
2015-04-08, 10:22 PM
Ok, so add [roll0] to the Burning Hands damage above.

Levelup is complete, except for the Feat selection. I added Persistent Blade (SpC 154) as my Advanced Learning. 1 round/level summon, can't be attacked, deals force damage (1d4, +2 from warmage edge). There aren't very many good level 1 Evocation spells to choose from. This one at least gives me flanking, a distraction, a force effect, and is efficient with the action economy.

I don't recall if we discussed class progression. I'd like to go into Sandshaper (lose 2 caster levels, gain a bunch of spells known), and will be dumping cross-class skill points into Survival so I can go SS at 6. However, the other prerequisite is a Touchstone feat from Sandstorm, which requires a 250gp item. It does not require an actual visit to the site. Can I take the feat and acquire the item later? The only direct benefit (besides qualifying for the PRC) is a +1 on charisma-based skills and checks, and cha-based spell pen.

Sandshaper, the desert, etc., actually probably work really well for an undead caster in this environment. We're in an environment similar to New Mexico, right? High desert with mountains, low rainfall, only scrubby trees aside from near watercourses?

I will assume you waited until the last moment to send your burning magic ahead. I would say they got hit because the flames passed through occupied squares, burning even the ones in the back line (in this case, one of they). Their lack of perception skills proved good to you in the end.

Their reflex saves (rolling on my desk):
A (3 dmg): 1d20+3
13+3 = 16

B (3 dmg): 1d20+3
12+3 = 15

C (7 dmg): 1d20+3
4+3 = 7

Two of they were able to dodge the flames partially.
I will roll the initiatives for you and the thugs.

A: 1d20+2
6+2 = 8

B: 1d20+2
15+2 = 17

C: 1d20+2
18+2 = 20

Bernardo:
1d20+4
2+4 = 6 (last)

I will assume somehow they were able enter the hut with just a move action. The thugs finally realized you were inside and decided a three vs one fight would still be a good deal, even tough they just recently got a pretty scare and hot welcome party.

They move into the building and try to flank you. Also, they seem to have some unusual or supernatural ability to blend with the shadows, making they hard to dodge against.

A: [roll0] [roll1]
B: [roll2] [roll3]
C: [roll4] [roll5]

They hit fast and hard but their effectiveness seems to be diminished. Their attempt to hit more important parts proved not useful due your unique and insensitive anatomy. This info got they by surprise, you notice.
Your turn. Consider yourself with very little room to maneuver without provoking AoO.

You depart from the improvised camp to Santo Barro town. Astroncio says that the city is almost always under a thick layer of mist due the proximity from a swamp like area and the climatic pattern. Other than that, the town is normally busy with people coming and going to the many farms around it. At some point in the 6 hours long ride remaining you cross by a watching tower. Usually some sentry would be there keeping track of feral animals or undesirable people but this time the observatory is empty. The tracks in the soil at the spot where the ladder is placed seems to be quite old, with grass blades sprouting from the bare ground. Do you want to investigate further?

You will have to support your mount with spells too. Horses have low light vision however so it may able to trot during the night by his own means. So, the hour to go finally arrives and the group start making their way to the their destination. In the fief gates your group passes by another party consisting of villagers, seven or ten, most of they showing clear signs of misfortune and tiredness. The one leading the group is warrior like man with a curved blade on his back. He gives a single nod and leads the group inside, only stopping to talk with guards for a moment. Any interest on they?

By the way, you can just use the forum roller and then edit results in.

How large is the shed? If it's a simple 10x10 or 10x15, Bernardo should have an AOO from someone moving through a threatened square so that they can all fit in. Also, I'm hoping he would have backed to near his bolt-hole at this point. Would knocking and moving through it provoke AOOs, and if so, from how many?

Before Bernardo can move away from the window, three shadowy, tall figures burst through the door, striking at him with dark-painted blades. He attempts to parry and strike back with his knife, but only succeeds as the first part, as a single blade scores a deep cut on his leg.

Trapped, he steps to the side and ducks as a shining purple dagger springs into life before flying at the closest enemy, who agilely leaps out of the way.

Bolt hole = escape route
I'm referring to the area of wall that Bernardo weakened with acid. It would be opposite the door, probably at G4.

Burning Hands was a surprise round, and he only gets a standard action then, so there was no time to move. Assuming minimum required movement (and fewest AOO provocations), enemies are now in J4, K4, and L4. He gets an AOO against the first one through the door (no combat reflexes, so the other AOO opportunity doesn't count).
AOO attack with dagger [roll0], damage [roll1]
crits [roll2] [roll3]

No matter what, he's going to eat some AOOs for moving or casting.
5' step to J6 (bordered now only by J5 & K5 thugs)
Casting Persistent Blade (SPC 154), provokes AOOs from J5 & K5. Bernardo's AC is 19.
Concentration checks if needed [roll4], [roll5] vs DC 10+damage dealt

Persistent blade sticks around for 3 rounds (1/level) and attacks starting on the round it's cast. It's an invulnerable force dagger and attacks the closest enemy (J5).

Damage [roll7] force
Crits [roll8] [roll9]
It will attack once per round on my turn until the spell ends. If the target dies, it takes a standard action for me to re-target it.

The journey went fine in the first night. At end of the first day, actually night, one of your comrades, the sorcerer like, separated from the rest to look after his own objective. Now you two have to decide where to make your camp and rest. You have the following options: one is nearby a small bridge with riparian forest patches at both sides of the construction; other is at top of small and hill besides the road; and the third one is to go look for a small village, at north. The fighter like mage seems to prefer the third one but you are the leader.

At top of the watch tower you find no signs of recent activity. No breadcrumbs, no water jugs, no sleeping mattress, no boots marks, no nothing that could indicated that someone had been there for awhile. Astroncio says this is strange because normally at least once per day one of the village guards would come here. With the sun at zenith, you would be able to see farther from here but a thick misty clouds your way ahead. After some several minutes examining the place and looking around Astroncio spots someone coming in your way. A few seconds after you are able to see it too, but now are two, than three, then... a dozen humanoids making their way to the tower. Astroncio and Nuno draws their bows and smell of death and decay fills the air around you.

Do you want me to re-do it since it was invalid?

I noticed that and I noticed that you forgot to roll the concentration check too. I said nothing because how crucial a tumble check and a concentration check were needed in that occasion. But now that you said that you got yourself killed, I wonder how you are going to work your way out even if I keep ignoring that checks. Well, what about we make a save game right after you spotted the thugs coming in your direction? This way we can have some guarantee that you won't dye, again. Also, your in box is full!

Trapped, Bernardo runs for his emergency exit, taking a deep cut on the way. He bulls through the barely-there wall, leaving a halfling-sized hole behind. His assailants will have to crouch and crawl through, or go around.

"I don't know who you are or what you want, but the next one to show his shadowed face will burn!"

Using the Withdraw action, so the space I'm moving out of doesn't count as threatened. I take only two AOOs, one of which hits (using the dice rolls from before), leaving me at 8hp.
Moving at double speed, that puts Bernardo at B6 unless there's a speed penalty for breaking the wood.

The thugs stop for a moment to consider your warning. They speak in a foreign language, unknown to you. After a brief moment, one of they finally speaks to you in a very accented common. - Small one, don't be afraid. We are not here to hurt. In fact, you are the one who attack us first! He stops for a moment to whisper something to his partners and continues. - We are just some tired travelers that though would be great to spend a night with a hoof over ours heads for a change.

I will assume you are faster than these slow walking, clumsy and ragged corpses. This is the map (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1f2lKlEGTAz9safZv4W5LRVRHrA9xmt5b1yNe9I5hDP4/edit#gid=209085712) (the watch tower sheet; let me know it if you have any problems opening it). You four are up in the tower with clear view of the area ahead. The tree grant total cover to enemies behind they. Astroncio and Nuno draws their bows and prepare to loose as many arrows as possible before those things arrive. What are your actions?

Your companion decides to search for the nearby town in hope to find appropriate shelter and perhaps some entertainment. The intrepid duo finally arrives their destination, the small and traditional village of... you have no idea what was its name. None of you two has brought a map. Anyway, that does not matter now because it is very early in the morning and the village is almost completely destroyed. Buildings burned to the ground to the left and to the right, just an old well in center kept their hoof intact. It is ugly, but it is not your business. Maroto points to the single building with an hoof. - It seems someone had the hottest party right here, hahaha, don't you think? You look at him and fails to find anything funny about what he said. This guy is bat **** crazy, you think.

After tending the horses you two enter the building, sword and pen in hands. The one, or most likely those, who did this may be nearby. Inside, you realize this place probably had been a pub or tavern. Maroto inspect the second floor and finds some mattress made of cotton. Just your luck day. He promptly lay on one and says good night leaving you wondering if this place are safe or not. No use bettering with that. As a wizard you now that a tired mind is like a blunt sword.

- Hey, small one, tell us your name. I am Segunda-Feira, and these two are my brother, Terça-Feira and Quarta-Feira. Why don't you stay here with us? One of they cautiously prob the hole you made in the wall and look at with curiosity. - You seems to be lost, just like us. Lost boys must stay together ahah. His yellowish teeth reminds you of a stubborn horse you one fell from. Around the hut the landscape are quity plain with just some tree and brushs here and there. From here you can see the fief walls, the out of the wall neighbor, also know as Slumtown.

Astroncio and Nuno starts loosing arrows but their effectiveness is not very good. These things seems to be resistant against piercing damage. Than you have a insight. Those things are no living beings. Your divine power make some of they flee in terror while others are turned into ashes. After the last one drops under the wieght of several arrows, Astroncio is the first one to talk. - This is not good. These things are coming from Sant Barro Direction. Astroncio holds his emotions tight but your keen perception shows a man truly worried.

- Hmmm, by the looks I would say some bandits raided this village. You know, the standard thing; kill all the men, lay with all the ladies ahahahha. Maroto, before leaving, take his time to explore the, now ruined, buildings. He founds many personal things what indicates the owners had no time to prepare to leave their homes. He found no trace of gold, silver or anything else of value. - Hmm I would say some thirty people lived here. I used to do neighbor census when I was at academy... He than enters in a small chapel and short after calls you. - Hey booklicker, take a look at this. Inside the building you find a small library. An search check would be useful. You can take 10 or take 20 but staying this much in this village may not be so wise. One more thing, perhaps Penny needs some kind of sacrifice to open his more potent abilities. Like a feat, or higher lv spell slot, or both. Aaaand another last thing. I was thinking about her attacks and decide to give a extra hunch. You may attack using your caster level + your int mod. The damage will be half your cl of d4 plus your int mod, and you may use it to attack multiples times (iterations allowed by your base). It still needs bypass AC normally (no ranged touch).

Bernardo waits a while, and as night truly begins to fall, he works his way around to the south of the shed, staying close to 50 feet away from it. He finds a spot, lying on the ground, where he can just see the door (around column L or M)... and then flings a ball of magical fire at it, setting it afire.

The one, who must be the leader, speaks with in menacing way. - Who are you, speak now? Are you the ones responsible for that? They are well coordinated what may point to some military training but you can not recognize their coat of arms.

Your orb sets the straw hoof on fire but the fire will take some time to inflict serious damages due the moisture. The three men go outside immediately after the impact. A small jade chip in Bernardo's hand crumbles to dust, as the 3 bandits standing outside the door look around in the dark. Moments later, the night-time quiet is disturbed by a large number of loud thumps, some softer whumps, a couple of cracking sounds, and cries of pain as they are pelted from above with fist-sized stones.

Bernardo has Darkvision, they don't. I'm assuming they are clustered right outside the door.
Hail of Stone, CARc 110. 5' radius, [roll0] damage, no save.

They failed miserably.

Inside the hut, while you were preparing your attack, they drunk healing potions (one for each, I will roll on my desk), so your rail of stones didn't kill they all. However, one of the thugs gotta the larger boulders and hit the ground head first.

Just a note, this spell has a casting time of 1 full round so it will come into play just before your next turn. That is why you can not cast and attempt to stay hidden in the same round (but other bonuses still apply like the night sky, being prone, they being distracted, your armor check penalty, your size, etc.). The good part is that it is you turn again.

Here's the plan. If they spot Bernardo at any point, we'll put the plan on pause. If they keep failing to spot him, this speeds things up. I don't know if i'll need to re-roll a hide check for round 2 since Bernardo isn't attacking; if I don't, I'll stick with the current roll.

The town seems to be unnerving calm. A raven lands onto the gate and screams at you. The black bird follows you while crossing the door frame with its wicked look. - It is too quiety here, M'Lord. Murmurs Astroncio. - Yeaa, I can feel something dread in the air, we must progress with caution. Replies Nuno.
Would like to control Nuno and Astroncio?

Mira huddles closer to Antonio, a bit scared . "I don't like this place" she says quietly, as her true form starts to flicker. Three eyes appear out of her hair, while her huge mouth in her chest opens again, with a tentacle-like form coming out.

1 long Tentacle (1D4+3 Damage, 10ft. reach) 6 FP

"You should probably surrender, We have Magic!" Dis'Kval calls to the riders before gesturing and showering them in glittery sparks.

Casting glitterdust and showering both riders and horses in glitter, dc 15 will or get blinded.

Matoto charges headlong into battle, unleashing a powerful attack.

Matoto is going to charge whichever one gets blinded and swing at it, if more than one if blinded he will prioritize the R1 > R2 > H1 > H2. Power attacking for two, I have already put in the +2 for hitting a target that cannot see you. If it turns out nobody gets blinded, the attack is made at -2.

"I'm sure this place is more afraid of you than you are of it. I'll admit that even I find your form of magic disquieting." Antonio whispers. "Let's see what happened here. Either evil has taken over, and it needs eradicating, or there is someone still trapped in the midst and they need rescuing. We should be careful, though."

He mutters a prayer for haste. Then Antonio and Astroncio head to the nearest doorway. He listens then knocks if he hears nothing unusual. Nuno stands back in the road a bit to keep an eye out.

Antonio and Astroncio move to N12 and N13. Listen [roll0] If it sounds normal, he'll knock. If there is something unusual, let me know first.

Nuno will stand at L11 and make a spot/listen check.

After the skirmish you realize two things. The first is that you accomplished to burn to the ground the poor hut. The second is that far way, in the walls gate, you can see riders coming in your direction, probably to see who have started the fire. Would be wise to clear the area as soon as possible. You may go back to the city, risking being seem by the riders, or you can further away from the fief. There is many small patches of forest in horizon for you to hide into.

The riders saves (I will let the mount automatic pass the saves for simplicity sake)
Rider 1: 1d20+0
7+0 = 7

Rider 2: 1d20+0
14+0 = 14

Maroto's attack
1d20+9
7+7 = 16

Both riders failed and now are blind as moles. What a change of luck. Maroto's charge (by my calc the bonus should be +9) proved powerful and almost killed the rider 1. The riders, seem how in trouble they are, try to blindly flee the fight (DC 10 ride check, if he fails the mount will not move away, if he succeeds they will generate AoO for Maroto).

Ride Check:
[roll0] rider 1 (-4 from blind)
[roll1] rider 2 (-4 from blind) (successes)

Rider 2 guides his mount to flee the fight but lowers his guard in the process. Raider 1 fights with his mount bu can not rule his reluctant mount.

You hastily inspect the bodies and only find unknown copper coins, smelly rations and an oddly looking dice. You live the scorched plank in appropriate site and departs as fast as you can. Not long after the riders arrive the scene but you had already gone. The patch is filled with spine shrubs. Finding a good spot to lay would be difficult for a human but for you, any clearance is good. Although not feeling sleepy or tired, your mind lust for a rest. That is your first night as an undead. Without warning your vision blurs and a dream starts to unfold in your head. In it, you see a small village, then a chapel and then a priest. The man speeches to a small group inside the chapel and the group echoes his words. Then the priest look at you and asks for your presence at his side.

Hi everyone!
I'm joining this game with Tosco (http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheet.html#id=166751), the tortured pit fighter.
It might be a while until I meet any of your characters, but in the meantime I'm going to start with a little flashback/prequel to the character (in case anyone wants to read it)
I hope we meet soon! (Except for tentacle-girl :smalleek:)

The dice and the coins could provide some clues about the thugs origin but only for a trained eye.
You approach the priest, not so much like a objective action but something much more unconsciously driven. The father takes your hand gently and introduces to the crowd who cries your name. But all of sudden the picture changes completely and you are now in sky, flying above the land like a sentient cloud. From there you can see all the fief region, the fief itself specially and a shiny beacon in the west. The beacon is in fact a city, a small village actually, on top of an hill with wood palisades and depression around. The light it emits warms gently your body. Something inside you makes you believe this place guards something important in your destiny.

The silence is broken when an human figures comes from behind the ficus three. It is man, or at least it was at some point, that limps in your direction. He drags a lumberjack axe. From a tight street besides you a woman appears. Again, it was born like one but now... only god knows. And Antonio. In your heart you feel a dark energy coming from those things. And then others, half a dozen, appears in front of you. They walk slowly. Most limping or even impossibly dragging themselves around. Some carry their tools of trade. The butcher and his cleaver. The stable boy and his pitchfork, still with bundles of hay stuck in the point. The militia man dragging his poleaxe and scratching the ground. In their faces an expression as absurd as their walk. They come smiling. - I feel evilness in every place I look but this things... this thing bears no malice, no will to do us harm. But they will do it any way! Why?! Why?! Nuno whispering tone transforms into shouts.

Bernardo
Bernardo awakes with the dawn the next morning.

He uses his potion of disguising to look like his living self, and circles the town for about 15 minutes until he comes to one of the main roads, where he blends in with the market traffic. Once inside town, he goes to the stables near the warehousing and stock yards, retrieving his pony and tack. An apple from the basket by the door distracts his pony from the slightly odd smell his master now has.

The stock yards and warehouse areas are near the outside of town, close enough to the market to be convenient, but far enough away that the smell doesn't travel...usually. He's in the area and knows at least the faces and places of most of the people involved, so it's easy for Bernardo to inquire about work protecting herds or caravans. He pays special attention to any opportunities that take him out of town, and especially towards the west of town.

Healing 3hp from resting overnight leaves Bernardo at 11/36. It will take 8 nights of normal rest, or 4 days of bed rest, to heal up to normal. He needs to find some healing magic, but he can't afford much. He's got 21gp, and 20gp would buy two CL 1 castings of inflict light wounds for 2d8+2 healing, but at the cost of attracting some questions.

As described, he looks like his normal self, so nobody should be hassling him.

The Libris Mortis says necropolitans don't have to eat and don't have any hunger cravings, so I'm going off of that.

Why don't you go see Father Caldas or your ex mentor? They could have something to say about what had happened with you. The hunger, the dreams.
About reading other people spoilers I leave for the players decision.
And, finally, your posts have improved a lot lately. Describing your actions in detail, using things of the environment that I posted or making your own gives substance to the game.

Lieutenant Ybarro & Father Caldas sent me to a "safe place" to wait, where I got attacked by 3 bandits. Much more of that kind of help and I'll be dust in the wind instead of undead. There's too much going on as we head towards war; it's not safe to trust anyone.

It's time to lie low and recover by getting out of town for a few days. I need to get used to my new...condition...and figure out what I want to do next.

When Nuno begins shouting, Antonio raises a hand. "Nuno, do not fear. This is where your faith must be strongest. Our god will protect us. Look inward and find the seed of faith that is planted there. Pray for courage and stand fast for your faith."

The priest brandishes his holy symbol again, and calls upon his god. "May the holy light of heaven give your souls peace, while the fire above returns your flesh to the earth!"

During your trip in the yard you meet a man who says he is about to leave Santa Fa carrying herds with the famous Matungo, the dwarf. The caravan will deliver the animals to a far away trade post in the north. You don't know for sure what road they will take along all the trip, but is safe to say that some their time they will be going to west, as all large roads start going west and changing directions after a day of riding. This is your opportunity of getting a somewhat safe journey for a time. You inquire the man about how you can make yourself part of the group and he explains that you should go see the "damn dwarf, that jerk". Finding him take some time but you finally meet him at whore house, enjoying himself with wench and jug of a beer. - Ha, small one, what I can do for ya?

The fleeing rider's horse is fast enough to leave the spell range in time but his careless escape gave Matoto a opportunity to attack him ([roll0][roll1]). The poor blind one gets hit again and this time he falls to the ground dead.

The divine power lighthouse created by Antonio disintegrates all the corpses, leaving a smell of ash in the air.

Then, the screams and the sound of foot steps, coming likely to your direction, hits your senses like a sledgehammer. The person that one day was this guard are still a mystery as any id was not with him. His coat of arms is unknown too. Maroto points out that this man could not even be a city guard, bound to a liege lord and region. Stead, he could be mercenary. It is new that some mercenaries groups use emblems to differentiate them from other, less reliable and organized sells-swords; the so called mercenary companies. This is an hypothesis and you lack evidences (you can make a nobility check if you have ranks on it).

I don't recall what time of the day is it now so lets assume that has finally come and you and your partner can resume your journey.

The barricade door will hold for some time (double the hp). Saying by the furniture, this building should be a wine house, with barrels six feet high all over the place. The smell of wine and alcohol makes the place a little intoxicant, but no harmful. There is a stairs in the back and no windows in the first floor. Soon after the door was reinforced the sounds of fists pounding it started. Impossible to say how many but certainly more than one.

The reinforced door will hold them for [roll0] minutes.
