Yuan - Ti on Athas (Dark Sun)

So, Im the DM of a group playing Dark Sun, and one of the threads that Ive dropped the players is that there has been a man spotted in the warrens of Tyr who had these weird, reptillian eyes, and scales around his wrists. The elf guessed he was a Yuan-Ti.

Yuan-Ti were mentioned in the "City State of Tyr" supplement, and I've got an idea of the plot (rival Yuan-Ti abominations fighting over power, one collapses passage forcing the group to go after the rival abomination, then Yuan-Ti gains power, and at a later date, becomes a seriously powerful defilier who is plotting to take the city), any ideas on how to "Athasize" the snake beasts?

Make them more nihilistic. That works with about anything on Athas.

I don't know if this is a thing already, but if my limited understanding of Athas isn't crazy, making Yuan-ti look more like desert snakes living in subterranean cities would be an interesting way of going about it.
